What? I don't recognize either of those usernames. Or that fic title. Which is weird because I've been in the Hermitcraft fandom long enough I can recognize people who don't post often. Did I follow something by accident? Is this from back when I was into Undertale and Hollow Knight? That was literally years ago who in the world--

i think my favorite, of all the manga so far, is the Intro Arc all the way through the Shishitoren Arc [all of them are so beautifully written that it's hard to pick just one though....]

there's so many great lines in these scenes, from both the manga AND the anime. not to mention all the great actions

We get to see Sakura thrown for a loop as he adjusts to nonpainful tactility and genuine compliments, Nirei and Kotoha being immediately taken with his strength and shyness, Sugishita's pure force and Suo's playful and tricky nature, and Class 1-1 in general just- immediately falling in love with this poor boy

what really gets me is that Anzai KNEW Suo could stop Sugishita too, like- everyone in Class 1-1 is very intimately aware of how strong Suo is right off the bat [which is a very very cool little detail that i hope gets explored more later]

not to mention, Hiragi's anime line when he beats Sako fucking kills me too man... "I'm sorry.. you saw more in me than what I am." LIKE EXCUSE ME!? -> and Sako's response line in the manga: "i just... wanted to hear you say.. 'come with me'.." it hurts, so so much, so good

there's not a single badly written dynamic

all in all, it's an absolutely amazing start to this franchise. it gets you hooked, hyped, and addicted right away. i haven't been this hyperfixated on anything since Link Click and Trigun

I adore Darius and Hunter, of course, but I love how Dadrius opens the floor for the fascinating dynamic of Eberwolf and Hunter.

Eberwolf, the encourager of making silly animal sounds and imitating paws with your hands. He can barely reach Hunter's waist but he's his other parent, height is irrelevant. They WILL be very gentle through Hunter's panic attacks and like a couple of hours later tell him it's fine if he feels like clawing at furniture for recreational reasons. He will take Hunter to roll around in dirt in the garden so Hunter can mark off another childhood experience with less cult activities and trauma than he did before. He's Hunter's partner in crime while Darius looks at them in vague disapproval. They're also the one telling Hunter AND Darius to get their shit together sometimes as the sole emotionally stable person in that house. Hunter can feel them curl up near him when he's having such a bad moment he can't even get up from bed.

They're everything to me, do you understand? Do you understand the vision?

Well, it was fun but we got to say goodbye to Maul for a bit. I think it's safe to say he might be my favourite again, although I did enjoy writing Reven as well. Tomorrow is Dirk's turn and I think it will be...interesting.

Bad Sansuary II: Horror - Unexpected

Once the chores were done, Maul sat down on a log by the fire with his greataxe. You watched as he began running the edge of the weapon across a whetstone, occasionally wiping it down with a rag. You noticed he kept pausing and holding the edge up close to his eyelight, checking how sharp it was before repeating the process of sharpening it.

"You think it's sharp enough?" you asked teasingly. "Or are you also trying to split hairs on top of severing bones?"

He hummed thoughtfully, continuing to focus on his work. "never too sharp..." After a moment, he once more examined the edge before setting it aside, seemingly satisfied, and turned to you. " 's a force of habit, gotta be ready for a fight at all times."

"That's fair. I guess with our line of work it pays to be ready for anything," you remarked.

He nodded in agreement. "how's your blade holdin' up?" he asked after a few seconds of silence.

"It seems fine, although I had to use it before we left the city." You paused for a moment before adding, "I actually haven't had a chance to clean it since then."

A look of disappointment briefly flashed over his face but he quickly shook it off. "i can do it," he said, holding out his hand in a silent demand.

"Huh? No, you really don't have to. I can just do it later."

He shook his head and motioned for your dagger again. "nah, 's the least i can do. i haven't been much help so far..."

You raised an eyebrow but unsheathed your dagger, passing it to him handle first. Silently, you watched as he examined the blade, beginning to run a dampened cloth over the metal to remove any lingering grime.

"That's nonsense," you huffed. "You've been really helpful, you know? If it wasn't for you keeping an eye on the camp, Reven and I might have been in a tough spot after we got out of the city. In my opinion, it's just as important to watch the supplies as it is to go out into battle. I'm grateful you came along with us, even if sneaking isn't exactly your forte."

Maul hummed in an ambivalent way as he finished wiping down your dagger, selecting the whetstone again.

You crossed your arms at his almost dismissive demeanor. "Look, I'm serious. If someone didn't remind the other two, they would forget to even feed themselves." You were only half joking, but it still earned you a small chuckle from the giant.

He passed your dagger over the whetstone a few times before giving a satisfied grunt and passing it back. "that's true, but i also enjoy doin' the more dull tasks. 's comforting sometimes." He took a deep breath and stretched his non-existent muscles. " 'm not a fan of campin' out in the woods though...brings up bad memories..."

You frowned, sheathing your weapon again.

" 'sides, i like helpin' out," he continued. "...it's what families do."

You felt your heart skip a beat and quickly looked up at him. "Wait, you consider me...family?"

His grin sharpened and he let out a quiet hum of agreement as he began sharpening his hunting knife.

You didn't really know how to react. While you hadn't been super close with your family, you hadn't been able to say goodbye before starting your new life. You were supposed to be dead, so you couldn't even reach out in secret, lest everything be ruined. Needless to say, you had been a tad lonely, but hearing that Maul saw you like that was a pleasant surprise. Maybe this was the beginning of forming a new family?

You gave him the most genuine smile you'd had in a long time. "That's...sweet of you. Thank you Maul."

Several minutes passed before you picked up the sound of multiple people trudging through the forest. Maul noticed as well and caught your eye. He quietly stood up, motioning for you to stay still as he picked up his greataxe.

Your worries were soon dashed when you spotted the familiar silhouettes of the two other skeletons in your party. Reven stepped out of the trees first, looking beyond irritated, followed by the apparent source of his annoyance.

"that took way longer than it should have," he grumbled. "no thanks to this idiot..."

Dirk stopped in his tracks, placing a hand against his chestplate as if he had been offended. "words can hurt, you know?" he retorted, his tone heavily layered with snark.

Reven rolled his eyelights and kept walking, although he paused when he noticed you and Maul. He seemed to clock that something had happened and rapidly scanned both of you, zeroing in on your still injured ankle.

"why are you hurt?" he asked, immediately growing serious. "was the camp discovered?"

You shook your head, waving him off as you stood up with the aide of your walking stick. "I'm fine, I just twisted my ankle after you left the other day." When he narrowed his eye sockets, you added, "I don't think anyone has noticed us yet?"

Dirk suddenly appeared between you and Maul. He tilted his skull as he gave you a once over before turning to the larger skeleton. "how's it been, big guy? i hope you weren't too bored without me these past few days," he teased.

Maul cleared his non-existent throat and got an uncomfortable look on his face. Rather than immediately answer, he turned and went to put his axe down again. "not bored, been too busy," he muttered under his breath.

"what else happened?" Reven cut in before Dirk could say anything else. "if the mission has been compromised, i need to know right now."

You glanced at Maul, silently asking if you should be the one to explain and he gave you a slight nod. You sighed and motioned to the logs around the fire pit.

"Take a seat, it's a bit complicated to explain."

i've mentioned here and there that i made a relationships/dynamic spreadsheet. i have finally put it to use. look on my Works, ye mighty, and despair.

-extra note: i am not omniscient and i cannot watch every stream. i may have missed a sibling declaration or two.

-extra extra note: i currently speak only english and used google translate for the rest. if theres a translation error I'd love to know- i wont be able to go back and fix these, but im always so curious about how accurate google translate can be

extra extra note pt 2: do. do other languages use guardian as in "legal guardian" as in "not a family member but still Primary Caregiver of child" because i am suddenly aware those translations might not be correct. on the other hand tho if google translate decided that the parents are guarding warriors of the eggs im not going to argue

The spiked bracelets Bowser wears are traditional bracelets for his family and him giving them to the Koopalings as well signifies him considering them part of his family (he did give a pair to Wendy too, but she doesn’t wear them because they aren’t cute enough for her and she rebels against tradition anyway). Bowser Jr doesn’t get spiked ones until he starts koopa puberty. Other Dragon-Koopa families have traditional bracelets of different designs as well. Wearing a specific pair of bracelets associates one with a specific family.
