I headcanon that my Rook went back to talk to Solas after meeting Lavellan and was like "I can't believe you fumbled the Inquisitor, that's so embarrassing."

So I finished In Hushed Whispers last night and my party was Bull and Solas, with Dorian naturally. Arsulahn and Dorian trauma bonded immediately. BFF’s forever.

Also Bull, ngl, though it’s one-sided.

And then we come to Solas. He’s so quiet and drained of life the entire time. Solas can be a little monotone because I think he’s trying very hard not to sound invested in anything until he is and then Whoo Boy. But here he just sounds… like he’s dying. The effects of the red lyrium are clearest on his face; his eyes are so sunken.

But what KILLED me was the very end. He looks up at Bull when they realize what they’ve got to do and the look of absolute anguish on that man’s face. It’s so visceral and unlike usual The BioWare Turn, it stays there until we don’t see him anymore.

Solas is in absolute despair. What plans he had are over. His body is in absolute agony. He’s about to die and while he knows time will be altered and this will never have happened, but like Leliana, he suffered.

For a year, he’s been locked in that prison, slowly dying and rotting in the dark. He thought the woman he had been resisting feelings for died before anything even got to develop and for some reason, that’s haunted him nearly as much as his colossal failure.

I like to think that when Arsulahn, my Lavellan, got a second to breathe, she hugged him. One hard time. Her friend is dying. There’s nothing she can do to change it. There’s no way she can save him from this time. But she can comfort him for this one little section of time.

Solas gives a little shocked gasp and the hug hurts for a moment. Everything hurts. But then he just crumbles into it. There’s no use in trying to abstain anymore. She’s haunted his dreams when he’s been able to have them, everything from her voice to her scent. And she’s saving the world, even if he won’t be able to see it.

They consider a kiss. But he just gently touches her mouth. A little no push. “The lyrium could affect you if… but thank you.” Takes a moment to cradle her face.

And then he’s walking away from her to death. And while he’s faced every second of this hell with a stoic face, it’s now, leaving her, that he allows his face to break with sorrow.

continuing my habit of writing 600 plus words on random thoughts that come to me… how did the Inquisitor and Morrigan become friends? thinking about it, it was probably after they faced Mythal/Flemeth.

tiny little snippet from that, where my elven inquisitor has a lot more to say about all that bullshit
