𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑩𝒓𝒊𝒅𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝑭𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒌𝒆𝒏𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒊𝒏!

This is a rather ambitious project that I worked on all last week as my main entry to the drawing category in the art competition at my local village show. I was really surprised and honoured to receive first prize, because despite there not being that many entries, the other drawings there were rather tough ones to beat!

This is only the second time I’ve tried drawing on black paper, the first being last year when I was copying someone else’s art as a reference, whereas this year I was using an actual still from the movie as my reference, which was harder. I had a nightmare trying to draw the base sketch, because even though I can just about see my pencil outline on the black paper due to the graphite being shiny and reflective, the table that I draw at has a window on the right and I happen to be right handed, so I was constantly in my own shadow! Even though I did two practice sketches on white paper first, I found it much harder to perfect the base sketch and spent most of the first day of drawing just adjusting the outline 😩 It went a lot smoother once I started shading it in with the white pencil thank goodness 😅

Overall, I am happy with how it turned out. It still annoys me that I can never get my art exactly accurate to the reference, but it definitely could’ve been worse and when not compared to the original still, I think that it looks fine.
