July Creator Spotlight: Desicosplay

Hello, lovely people, and welcome to our second creator spotlight!

Each month, we will highlight a different creator in our lovely fandom who features diverse characterizations of Sirius and/or Remus. We will invite you to get to know them better through questions and answers, Fandom Discourse(tm), and a featured prompt created by our guest.

For our second spotlight, we are absolutely honoured to having the presence of @desicosplay, an incredible cosplayer and writer that if you don’t follow, you should do right away. They’ve gifted us with many, many amazing gifsets, a lot of them about Sirius. Below you’ll see a little snippet of the interview and Mastani’s prompt. Mastani’s prompt: Muggle AU! Sirius and Remus at Harry’s sporting event!

Hi! I’m Mastani, she/they/he pronouns, I’m a 1.5/2nd Generation Indian-American, and I cosplay and write fanfiction!

Q: How did you start creating in the fandom? What did you wish to bring into the fandom?

A: Almost five years ago, Laina @ohtheclevernessofme1972 convinced me to join the HPRP community. She and everyone else were so supportive of my desire to bring my culture and background to the Harry Potter characters. Eventually, I also started writing fanfiction again!

Q: What things about s/r as characters or in their relationship inspire you to create around them?

A: I think that they are very complex characters that really demonstrate how external factors affect your life, whether you like it or not. Their relationship, whether platonic, romantic, or anything in-between or outside, is also so fascinating in its potential to evolve. Wolfstar is constantly changing, and all its interpretations are totally feasible to imagine.

Q: What things would you like to highlight about the Wolfstar fandom and your experience in it?

A: My main dips into the fandom are when I cosplay Sirius, and every time, I feel so much love. The fandom is so open to any interpretations of Sirius, and it does wonders to make someone feel accepted.

Q: What type of content do you wish you saw more in the fandom?

A: This is entirely self-indulgent, but Godfather/Uncle!Sirius just make me feel so warm inside. There’s a love inside Sirius that only gets touched upon inside the books. AUs where he gets to interact with Harry as a child or teen outside the pressure of a war are just so calming and warming.

Q: What is your favourite wolfstar fancontent (fic/fanart/gifset/etc) and how does it inspire you?

A: Y’all, I have so many Wolfstar fics saved that are just stunning and several that are comfort fics. I think the biggest takeaway from all of them is the comfort the boys find in each other. All of them are AUs, and I’m inspired to depict my Wolfstar as something kind, gentle, and communicative.

Q: Which of your own identities inform your creative processes? How has that process been for you?

A: All of them! But more specifically, my racial background informs most of my process. My process is… Sporadic, to say the least. However, when I do get struck with an idea, I have to create it almost instantly. One example, Wolfstar-related, is that my Sirius cosplay has long hair, half-up in a bun. I feel like desi!Sirius would celebrate his heritage by growing his hair long, which also is a nice, “screw you,” to societal and familial constraints.

Q: What advice do you have for other content creators with diverse backgrounds in the fandom? What would you say to people that might feel they don’t have the “right” history/experience/characteristics to participate in the creation of content related to Wolfstar?

A: think the best advice for participation I have comes from the iconic Jay @siriussly-serious, Rest in Power. “Go. Get in. Dive in. Fucking head first. Fuck that, cannonball your butt right in there and make a damn splash…” There is no, “right,” history/experience/background. These characters are fictional, but they can reflect our world. Our world is not homogenous. So why should fictional worlds and characters be that way? These stories are ours, and we shape them to be whatever we want them to be. If you want to create, that’s all the prerequisite you need.

Q: How could we build a more diverse fandom?

A: This blog is a great example of how to build a diverse fandom. Celebrating creators with diverse backgrounds and being loudly supportive of them makes us want to stay. Finding communities that celebrate, not just accept, can make a world of difference. So, raise your voice and love on your favorite creators.

Q: What’s your favourite thing to modify in Sirius’s or Remus’s characterizations to bring new perspectives to them?

A: I’m a huge communicator, so improving character communication is something I love to do. I like to create fluff, and this change lets me focus on the gentler parts of Sirius and Remus, or the parts that need some love, e.g. mental health. It also lets me flesh out their senses of humor more, like their dislike of cats (in my headcanons).

Q: What does diversity mean to you? What does that encompass in fanish spaces?

A: Diversity means celebration. So in fan spaces, that means actively seeking out creators that you might otherwise miss. It means trying out new perspectives, or listening to new perspectives on your favorite characters. It means standing with your peers, being loud in your love and support of them. Q: What are your ideas about the notions of culture and ethnicity? How do you relate to those notions?

A: I find culture and ethnicity to overlap in many ways, as they both pertain to group characteristics. I’m not an anthropologist, so I don’t know the detailed differences between the two. However, in my quick searches, it feels, to me, that culture is a bit broader and ethnicity is more geographic. So, I’m culturally Indian-American and ethnically Gujarati Indian (Gujarat is the state in India). I find these notions to be helpful when defining and describing my experiences. For example, among desis (and other brown folks), saying I’m generation 1.5/2 tells them that I straddle American/Western and Indian culture. If I tell another Indian that I’m Gujarati, they instantly know the kind of foods I grew up with and the language my parents speak. It’s a streamlined way of explaining my experiences, and as a science brained person, it makes life easier for me.

Q: Is there a page/organization/institution you would recommend for fans to search/read when it comes to learning about diversity?

A: With the tool that is social media, there are so many activists and creators that are willing and able to teach about diversity. On my page, I keep a page titled, “Resources for Justice.” This page has a wide variety of social justice resources on it. Google is great, but you also want to cross-check your sources. However, I feel like the best way to learn is to ask questions. Do so respectfully and ensure the person you’re asking has the energy/time/compensation to answer. Especially if you’ve done some research ahead of time, I find that many folks are willing to have a discussion - but again, check with the person first. Trust is paramount in these conversations.

Q: Is there a project/organization that you want to hype?

A: Oh, I could name so many. However, the ones I want to shout out here are Chrysalis - Gender Identity Matters and Raze Collective. As many of you know, Jay @siriussly-serious passed away recently, and in his name, we’re promoting/donating to these charities. Chrysalis - GIM offers online and in-person mental health support for trans and nonbinary people in his area and Raze Collective supports LGBTQIA+ performers. Ami @ami-acts and a few others (I apologize for not remembering exactly who - I’ll message the mods if I remember/please add on if you know) organized this. Links are below.

A: Is it too cheesy to say all of our fandom? To be totally honest, that’s who/what inspires me most of all. It’s a work of art, all the people in it make our fandom a work of art!

Time for Luffy's fashion exam! Now, I'll be honest, I did skip an outfit because I decided I will be ending this whole thing with the Strawhat fashion show in Episode of Luffy. Also, sorry for the posting gap, I remembered I have other unfinished post sets. That being said, this is a very long one so let's do this!

Kid Luffy, Post-Enies Lobby & Fish-Man Island: I think it's super cute when Luffy has white t shirts with red based logos because it reminds me of the first picture. Makes him look baby plus, they can always be found in cute domestic EPs or fun, cute flashbacks. The shorts change over time and that's also kinda cute, a range of cuffs is a nice change up. It's nice to see the red contrast the blue shorts and the white is a nice color on him cos it contrast his hair!

Romance Dawn, Enies Lobby, Thriller Bark, Sabaody Archipelago, Amazon Lily, Marineford & last Dressrosa outfit: This look is the pre Luffy look. It's the pre Timeskip look everyone thinks of is cuffed shorts, Kimono sandels and sleeveless vest (and Strawhat, obviously) but have you ever seen them all in a line? It's mad. Each outfit is the same basic look bit more are more spicy each time! I like the Thriller Bark and Sabaody Archipelago looks a little bit more cos it's nice to see that jacket open and it feels like he was trying something new. I also feel that the buttons on the jacket look like the ones on Shanks' pegged ankle sailor pants when we first see him so that's cool. (it took me hours to find the name for his trousers, oh my fucking god) The last Dressrosa outfit feels like a nice callback to the rest of the line up here without being too much cos it's just a red vest top instead and I do find it funny it's like the Enies Lobby and it's used in Dressrosa because of the jokes people make about Robin and Law being so similar.

Timeskip: This is it lads, it's the one true icon itself, the post look! ☺️ When I sit back and look at it I see all the people this look is influenced by and want to cry at how masterful it really is. (Now, I do wanna say that I didn't come up with this nor am I the first to say it and I am definitely probably looking too much into this but) The yellow belt is taken from Shanks' red belt the first time we see him and the Shanks look Luffy is more familiar with. Now onto the jacket. I know it won't stand out as to why for most but it's Ace inspired! When Ace leave to become a pirate, the start of his adventure, he has his jacket open and Luffy having his jacket open also shows his scar from the ending of Ace's adventure. I also really appreciate how no one hides scars in this anime. Also, someone said that the style of the jacket and it's fancy frills could be in reference to Sabo's little jabot collar and honestly I do see it. it's quite subtle unlike Shanks' but not as hard to catch as Ace's so I enjoy thinking that it's there too. Lastly, he still has his cuffed shorts and kimono sandels because it's still Luffy's outfit at the end of the day and he is still who is is, just with a stronger appreciation of what people have done for him now. It's also his colour pallette for the pure fact he is the main character n needs his pallet. also sometimes he just has normal wooden sandels but the same outfit sometimes, it's a small detil a lot of people overlook but I prefer the sound of his Kimono sandels 😊

Dressrosa: I love this outfit cos it's stilly but also has very nice vibes. Looks ready for the beach but is really throwing hands and that's the best kind of outfit, it's a nice expectation subversion tbh. I also like how he tried to hide the Straw hat but not... All of it? And I love how the crew didn't actually question it either. It would have been super easy for one of them to just tell him to leave it behind or something but I do really love how respectful they always are of the hat. I myself have a hat that's super important to me and when I loose it I go mad.

Whole Cake Island: I love this arc for outfits! I swear if the actual content of it doesn't kill me, the act looks will 😭 it's all so magical and it knows it is! Like I said before, white is a good color on him as he has black hair but for the same reason, so is black! In this arcs outfit range, the Staw hat seems almost invisible and his outfit gets less and less 'Luffy' as the arc gose on showing this is not about him. He's not the focus of this arc and you can see that in a lot of the outfits thb. I also like the lack of blue and yellow, 2/3 of his colors as Sanji is often associated with those too as we've talked about before. Also, I like the little red strips on the white jacket with the gold buttons, idk why and I think it's nice that the last 2 outfits are so simple in general, it's a nice look for him. oh, what's that? A Pink jabot? Your killing me Lu, straight up killing me here lil' bro! Side note, is this the first time in canon Luffy has worn a suit jacket or is it the only time I've noticed? Cos DAMM!! Shits sick as fuck and I actually love that when wearing a suit jacket as such he always keep short on 😆

Spa Island, Z's Ambition & Strong World: WHOS READY FOR A RELAXING SUNNY DAAAYY!? (pun not intended but very much enjoyed) I actually adore the fact Luffy still tries to go swimming cos it was his favourite thing to do as a kid so like fuck Luffy is gonna give up on that. He's got his safety measures ready, what more do you want from him? I mean I personally want him not to swim with his hat on cos it's litrally Staw and that's not good for water but anyway Z's Ambition, am I right!? The top is so fucking cute and I just noticed those shorts are also ✨designer✨ fancy man!! Now, the pic of Zoro is the one I missed out before and it's also from Z's Ambition. I love that Luffy has the shark top but Zoro has the ocean shorts. I really love Zoro in this purple cos and thick white stripes really work with the ocean waves. It's really well put together and hes got dark brown sandels on to off set all the white but keep the purple from being a stand out color, it's cool! Than the last Luffy looks like he's at a fashion show. It looks like the shorts come from a kids set the shark top belongs to. Imagine those together, it'd be so cute. However, it isn't an ocean patten, those are clouds cos Nami has a bikini top with the same pattern in Skypiea and it's actually one of my favourites for her.

Boss Luffy Historical Special! This filler AU is so much fun, I think any it a lot. He has his hair up in that super cute and useless way that doesn't actually do much but I do have my hair like that a lot n it's just... nice? Idk, it's strange buy I like he did that. I really enjoy his Kimono more that the actual Wano one cos it's a lot more simple look. The Sai being tucked in in that way is also cool but kinda makes it look like it's stabbing him a bit 👁️👄👁️. I like the pin strips being like a faded purpleish cos if you just glance at it, it makes it look it fuzzy. The belt also looks very nice with the middle ligter bit. It really feels like the Wano one was inspired by this is a way cos of the color matches. Like, it's probably not but still.

3D2Y, Adventure of Nebulandia 😍 & Heart of Gold: Hat-less Luffy is both a sin and a blessing. Regardless, I LOVE OP BOYS IN HOODIES!! I had to show you this specific the 3D2Y because we don't see the hood and it's soooo cute cos it a paw 😍 but also 😬 cos it's like... Kuma's paw the thing that cause 3D2Y in the first place. But that's also why it's so cool at the same time and AHHHHHH 😄 Now! On to Nebulandia! I really like this movie but also in canon, how does he have that jumper? Who made it for him and can I have one? It's Usopp flag design so I guess it could be him but he doesn't seem the type. Point is I want one. Last of this set is some really cosy outfits!! "How much fur?" "Yes" am I right? Like the first one is sooooo cosy with all the fur! Plus, a funky new bamboo hat, always a good thing to have a new hat. I appreciate that you can see the zips on these too. Then the orange turtle neck one with little fluffy bits is just here cos it's so out of his usual looks, I had to at least mention it.

Strong world & Film Z: The shorts on the first one are really cute cos it's a light rosey pink with red fur and just a plain solid dark blue colour jacket works really well. Not to mention the fact he has a super cute orange and yellow flight helmet hat with goggles on under the Staw hat. The 2 bag straps also make an X which is a nice detail. The 2nd outfits in this movie are super fuckin cool ngl. It's so strange to see them all dress in black and have guns but I like the red shirt for him with the yellow highlighted parts. Makes the Straw hat actually work with the outfit instead of ignoring it. Film Z brings us the same flight helmet hat just brighter and without the goggles but also opens with this T-Shirt and Luffy being silly with it. I think that's the only reason to mention it, it's funny. Then the obligation pirate outfit, always stunning plus the meat belt.

Film: Gold & Stampede (also used in Cidre Guild): these are my top 3 Luffy outfits no matter what else I see. I love the straw cowboy hat sooooo much cos it's very Luffy. I like the balls they has as a team to choose white for all of them, considering they are all quite messy people, living for that dad shirt and I like the Golden chain around his neck but am always confused as to why it was never used against him. Like dude could and should have tried to choke him at least once, right? Anyway, the dress! Now, the dress isn't actually that good but it's my favourite because it shows how Luffy has no fucks about gendered things. On to of that, a big pink flower is wonderful and look at his confidences in it, he's so proud of it the boom, Nami told him he can't wear it! Lastly, the Stampede outfit!!! Just like the Nebulandia jumper, I have no idea who made it but it's irrelevant cos it's beautiful and I want it so badly. I like that it's white and red stripes, gives thenprefect vibes for Stampedes opening. The shirt is actually too big for him, you can see on his arms but it's actually super cute. I love the simple look of these shorts then the fact his yellow belt is replaced with white bandages and the black on the kimono sandels are now red? It's such a simple pallet and it's truly the best!

I also just wanna add, I think it's really cute when Luffy has the Straw hat on his back just cos his hair is really cute. Idk why, it's looks kinda cursed but cute at the same time

Spencer was dressed as a star trek character. You were in a small crowd whilst listening to a person dressed up as gandolf. He was rambling on about how the 2nd lord of the rings movie was better than the 3rd. You were standing next to Spencer when he leaned over and whispered ‘This guys is nuts. The 3rd movie is obviously better someone needs to operantly recondition his brain’ you laughed at his psychology joke and turned to the handsome boy next to you ‘I guess you take psychology then?’ he nodded ‘Yeh I did. Got 3 Phds now.’ you smiled ‘Woah that’s amazing.’ Spencer blushed at your remark before sticking his hand out to shake yours ‘I’m Spencer Reid.’ you graciously accepted ‘I’m alex and I’m guessing your a doctor’ (i looked at your page for your name hope that’s okay!💕) he nodded again ‘Yep. On your first date you guys went to a psychology lecture and then went to see a movie. You had moved together and weeknights were filled with listening to music, debating about geographical and psychology statistics. Spencer loved hearing you ramble on about new medicine developments and you hearing him ramble about anything and everything. At weekends you’d go and play hockey with your local men’s team you were apart of. Spencer would sometimes come to your games. When the evenings finally rolled around that consisted of movies or playing video games whilst cuddling on the sofa with as many sugary snacks as you thought possible. Spencer was scared that you would get a cavity from how much sugar you ate. Some nights you’d suffer in bed with your PTSD but your boyfriend’s hold helped guide you and make you feel safe again. I love your freckles, your curly hair the way you can tell me anything about medicine or geography. I know you feel different and imperfect sometimes. But I don’t see it. Any of it. I love Zizhen and Jin Ling together, I'm sure they would be great friends because Zizhen would be very patient with JL and could see under that hard shell of his and JL would stand up for him when his kind heart fails Zizhen. 🥺🥺🥺

Dragons!! You have me, I love dragons! They are the coolest animals. And I'm not sure to be honest, usually I'm content with modern au fix-its but maybe something fantasy with ghosts or vampires or even just elves and kingdons would be great! And dragons. Someone started to write a Pride and prejudice remake and nghhh that is my favourite novel and story and movie forever I was so excited about it!! 😳 I would ask what kind of superpowers would you assign to each characters but I guess that has to wait after you reveal yourself, yeah? 😅

And I can't wait! I feel like maybe I even know you but you probably just resemble someone I do know. But you were very nice to chat with, you seem like an easy-going and easy to talk to kind of person which is a god-given gift. I'm really thankful that you were my partner because I can be so awkward. 😅

1. Your favorite book?

Veil of Secrets. I liked the story, I think all the LI were equally good. I do wish the romance with Kate had been longer because she was end game for sure. Other then that I enjoyed the whole thing. Also their was some indigenous representation which we need more of.

Second place is Perfect Match. Romance and robots what's not to like and Hayden is my amoung my favourite LIs

Third place is A Scandalous Proposal. It's very TRR but I like Simon a lot and their growth into a couple I like a lot.

2. Your favorite character?

Um Zig I think. While the Freshman isn't my favourite book, Zig is one of my favorite LI and one of my favourites characters. I also like good Bisexual representation. This isn't a customizable MC book which means he could have been straight and it wouldn't have been questioned but he isn't. He is Bi. There is a lot of not good But representation out there but Zig isn't one of those IMO.

3. Your favorite LI?

Right now Simon Montjoy from Scandalous Proposal. They are a good we don't like each other to we love each other and are the best couple you know progression

2nd is Dakota Winchester from With Every Heartbeat

3rd is Kate O'Malley and she deserved better and most of the relationship is headcannon for the ever after.

Also 4th is Zig.

4. Your favorite moment with an LI?

I really like the Zig moment where he rejects MC in the bar. He didn't take advantage of a emotionally compromised girl he was attracted to and it made me break up with Kaitlyn and start romancing him immediately.

5. Your favorite moment in any book?

Um. This is a hard one, I have read so many. I think winning the court scene in Mother of the year because it felt good after all the bullshit MC went through to prove she was the competent parent.

6. Your favorite ending to a book?

Hm. I like the end to The Royal Romance. I think the original 3 ended it in a good way. It was the happily ever after. Ends were tied they rode off into the sunset. It felt done and then the royal Heir came out.

7. Your favorite villain?

Maybe Silas Prescott. I have a soft spot for an obvious comic book villian.

8. Your favorite type of LI?

I like reunited lovers. Like people who were either friends or a couple. Seperate for a time and the reunited later in life (Like Kate).

9. Most memorable moment in a book?

The robot reveal in Perfect Match. I mean, I knew it was coming but still. So cool.

10. What got you into choices?

I was looking for stories like Japanese voltage and found Choices. Then I found I didn't want to wait for tickets. I came back later with more patience and a credit card.

11. Favorite choices blogs?

I am a bad tumblr person because I don't follow a lot of people. If you post on the main tag, you are my favourite.

12. Least favorite book?

I don't want to pick a basic one like Home for the Holidays or The Witness. As I have finished or are caught up on both of those.

I think the one I don't like, have never finished and don't want to is AME. I am just not into the reality T.V story lines. I read the first one but haven't touched the other 2.

13. Least favorite ending of any book?

High School Story Original trilogy. I felt like their stories weren't done and think going with these characters to graduation would have been great.

14. Least favorite villain?

Becca. It was so basic. I am glad she got a redemption later on.

15. Favorite MC?

Veil of Secrets or Perfect Match.

16. Favorite best friend character?

Poppy...... Patel. :)

I would love an ex boyfriend Reunion single LI book ( see Kazuki from Finally, in love again or Genji from in your arms tonight.) I like romance. My favourite parts of the non romance ones are the romance.

I would also like to see like a vampire or royal book with the roles reversed. Like MC is the queen and the LI is a commoner or MC is an ageless Vampire who loves a human. A new perspective would be nice.

I didn't like the time travel element in Distant Shores. I also would have made Mason from MFTL gender interchangeable. I think if I had to pick one two boys to have two gender it would be him.

Up until today I would have said Poppy Min Sinclair. I didn't get why anyone would want to romance her. I always thought she was awful.

Spoilers for Ep 30 of the Rise of Phoenixes

I was SO IMPRESSED WITH THIS EPISODE!!!!!!!!

- I love HOW SMART everybody is at this point! Literally all the characters who matter can see through the easy shit. I’ll expand more on this in each of the character points.

- One thing I absolutely LOVE about this show so far is how easy misunderstandings are cleared up. Misunderstandings are one of my LEAST favourite tropes ever, and I’m glad that any misunderstands are corrected very soon afterwards (e.g. Ning Yi and Feng Zhiwei finding out about each other’s identity, Ning Yi finding out about Feng Zhiwei not being dead). In this episode, the misunderstanding was when Ning Sheng poisoned the food sent by Ning Yi to cause a rift between Ning Yi and Zhan Bi, but Zhang Bi saw through that immediately. Zhan Bi also knew right away when he met Ning Yi that he was the real Chuwang and not Ning Sheng. I’m not 100% on whether his deduction was due to any specific reason or whether it was just a feeling. I’m willing to bet on the latter, that it was a combination of Ning Yi maybe having some of the physical and personality traits of his mother, and also the solemnity of Ning Yi when he was speaking to the man for whom his mother died.

- Even with Zhan Bi not falling for Ning Sheng’s ploy, Ning Sheng had a plan B already set in motion. I’m actually quite impressed with his plot. Perhaps the only weakness was threatening Wei Zhi, because of how good s/he is at thinking on their feet. It would have been easier to threaten Ning Qi (like he had already done before).

- A big difference between Ning Sheng and Ning Chuan as big bads is probably that Ning Chuan has a much bigger ego. He was the first born son of the empress, so if he hadn’t messed up in any major way, he was probably going to be the crown prince anyway. Except he did mess up in many big ways and that led to his downfall. On the other hand, Ning Sheng doesn’t really care much about his current status. Even Shaoning makes a huge deal out of being a child of the empress (and looks down on children of concubines) but that doesn’t bother Ning Sheng at all. But Ning Sheng knows that he can get to the top just by using his wits.

- Ning Sheng and Chang Guifei are cold blooded af though. Ning Sheng is cool, but whenever Chang Guifei exerts her power, I get chills. Somehow, her soft power is even more frightening than Ning Sheng’s plots. Maybe it’s because for her, it’s about the power. She will never become Emperor, or even the Regent. Much of what she is doing is for Ning Sheng’s sake. I even think about her attitudes towards her siblings, and I feel a bit of fear. Her “love” for her elder sister was only a tool for her to get sympathy from the Emperor. The fact that she can “use love” so casually is so frightening to me. She tried to sneak around to find out what was happening with Ning Sheng’s plot. However, she was wearing a veil, and when she flipped up her veil, Ning Yi laughed. I wonder what, if anything, happened to her, and if there was any sinister cause to it.

- Shaoning moved to the background after her assassination plot on Ning Yi didn’t work. She isn’t as smart as the other characters, but she can still be used by Ning Sheng due to her hatred of Ning Yi. The friendship angst between Shaoning and Wei Zhi was interesting to me too. Wei Zhi was getting friendly with Shaoning, but likely not for any other reason than to simply not be on her bad side. Wei Zhi was trying really hard not to get involved, but since the “poisoning” incident of this episode, I think it’s clear that Shaoning will see her as an obstacle and an enemy.

- I am so, so impressed with Feng Zhiwei’s quick thinking in this episode. Neither Zhiwei nor Ning Yi knew what the poison was. From what we’ve seen in the story so far, Ning Yi will take the poison every time because he’d rather avoid rousing suspicion that he knew more than he appears to. For him, it’s always a risk he’s willing to take. However, after seeing that Shaoning took the poison willingly, I think Zhiwei realized that this was probably a safe risk to take. So when serving the drinks to the court, she added the “poison” to all the bowls. Honestly, this was such great thinking on short notice. I mean, the drinks was also kind of...plot device-y, since this is the first time we’ve seen food being served at court, but I’ll take it. I was super tense and riled up during this scene because Ning Yi seemed genuinely shook that his identity was being questioned. Luckily Feng Zhiwei saved him instead of playing the neutral party.

- Qiu Mingying is a smart mom, but we all knew that. When she and Feng Hao came to Wei Zhi’s house, Qiu Mingying had to speak in metaphors because there was no way Shaoning and her people were not spying on them. If I remember correctly, Qiu Mingying told Wei Zhi to go about his business as usual and not to mind them. But I think Qiu Mingying was also telling Feng Zhiwei that she should do what she must, and not worry about their safety. I wonder if this is the first step that Qiu Mingying is taking to accept Feng Zhiwei’s decision to be a court official even if she has to hide her identity. In any case, despite speaking in code, I thought this was a rare but nice instance of Qiu Mingying showing concern for her daughter and understanding that her child is involved in something bigger than they both might realize.

- I’m curious about Ning Qi. I wonder if he’s trying to play both sides, or truly just trying to stay as neutral as possible. When he came back to the palace, I think everybody had assumed that he was weak and naive. His mother wasn’t highly-ranked, and even she warned Ning Qi to steer clear of the brothers’ shady dealings. When he speaks with Ning Yi, he does seem like the younger 7th brother who’s entirely under the thumb of the 2nd prince. I don’t know if Ning Qi just has resting smiling face, but in court, he did have a smile on his face when Ning Yi was being accused. And when they were waiting for the Emperor, he had some encouraging words for Ning Sheng. I’m really curious if he has any ambitions or if he is really just trying to stay neutral/avoid suspicion.

- You can tell how tired the Emperor is in the last scene when he sees his sons + Wei Zhi in private court. When he was in court, I think he wanted to see how everything played out because he needed all of the information. He wanted Ning Sheng to go about his whole spiel because he needed to know what Ning Sheng had up his sleeve. It had never crossed my mind that Ning Yi might’ve been Zhan Bi’s child. I’m not sure why that is. Maybe it’s because Ning Yi and the Emperor seem to have a certain level of trust that just seems rather intimate. Anyway, I’m definitely interested to see how this will play out.

- I’m also not sure what Helian Zheng’s role will be moving forward, but I wonder if he will have a romantic subplot with Feng Zhiwei. He definitely is charming, but he also fits the “charming bad boy prince” type lol.

- I swear to god every time Ning Yi and Feng Zhiwei are interacting on a one-to-one basis the sparks are flying like crazy. This is the case whenever they’re alone, like when Ning Yi told Zhiwei that their feelings had to stay in the darkness, or even in this episode when Ning Yi seemed so happy about being able to drink at Zhiwei’s home. I love that separately, Ning Yi and Feng Zhiwei are strong, smart, ambitious, but when they’re together, they’re soft, kind, and emotional.

Ok that’s all I got for now but wow, the episodes just keep getting more and more tense.

1. Favourite boy squad

The Italian boy squad- Contrabbandieri. Every single one of them seems so fun to be around and of course, Gio. I love him. Period.

The og. Herman really gave off that fuckboy type vibes and he was just so...... handsome. I mean, just look at him. God’s gift to the human race. I really like Cris from Skam España too. I had this weird dream about him and I’ve been in love with him since then.

It’s a tie between the second and the fourth season. I like the 2nd one not because of the ‘good girl, bad boy’ thing. I was never into that concept in the first place. But their relationship was really deep. It went deeper than everything. It was about two people being lonely and how they perceive the world. While Noora had a very optimistic approach to everything, William thought that world was black and white and that the only way to survive in this world is to become and act like a total asshole. They had their own versions of messed up family. They found families in their friends and in each other- that’s the most beautiful thing ever, tbh. More than that, they both KNEW how different they were from each other yet they tried to understand each other. So... I mean, it was super nice. As for Yousef and Sana. Yousef is the best character written in the history of television. I’m not a very big fan of Sana because she’s just too cold and closed off for my liking but god damn I ship Yousana so hard. I loved Sana when she was with Yousef. I loved who she was with him. She tried to understand what other people think. She realised that she was not right always. These two were just so... pure. And their relationship was beautiful. Again, it’s because of how different they were yet they tried to understand each other.

In 2012 I did not think I’d be able to make this list as I was convinced anime was on a permanent decline towards nothing but trash, but I am so happy that has changed! And so I give you a quick list of;

Favourite Anime made in the last 4 years!

Mob Psycho 100 (2016)

A no brainer, really. With a 2nd Season having JUST premiered earlier this week, MP100 is easily one of not only best LOOKING animes in a very very long time, but also one with an extremely strong empathetic message that’s completely opposite to most shounen anime. The theme of “having outrageous powers doesn’t make you any more or less special and important than any other human being” and how all the villains in the show are people, either super powered or not, who believe themselves “more important” than others is at the heart of its story. And our protagonist who is a person with horrifically strong powers, but who is trying to develop as a human being, and finds himself to be a rather emotionally brittle person who relies very heavily on others for emotional support. As well as focusing on the people willing to grant him that. It’s got some strong influential roots in the Earthbound and Mother 3 games and despite never saying anything along those lines, I can bet you anything the original Mangaka, ONE, drew heavy inspiration from their tone and presentation, as well as emotional core despite the oftentimes wacky setting.

The anime should also not be overlooked for its incredible Sakuga sequences, as well as using mixed media in its animation from pencil drawings, to paint of glass, to charcoal to sand, cementing it as easily one of the most visually interesting and ambitious shows in the last decade or so

Made in Abyss (2017)

An anime that understands concepts of Scope and Scale and manages to bring what is normally reserved for feature films to an episodic storyline. Made in Abyss’ entire theme and story is that of exploration of the unknown and everything in this anime’s power is honed to bring across that feeling. Its art direction headed by Osamu Masuyama whose previous work include working on the background art for both Spirited Away and Howl’s Moving Castle, is painstakingly rendered to bring as much gravitas to the setting as possible, aided by the soundtrack written by Kevin Penkin which is just as much atmospheric as it is musical in nature. Every ounce of talent is focused on making Made in Abyss’ world, culture and characters feel solid and real. And unlike other anime with cutesy art styles but dark subject matter, Made in Abyss’ darker tone is established right in the first episode and gradually builds to its first season’s climax, rather than blindside its audience out of nowhere.

I sincerely cannot sing this show’s praises enough.

It also doesn’t hurt that the animation itself is fluid and lively.

Re:Creators (2017)

When I gave this to an animator friend of mine, one who is NOT as big a weeb as I am, he referred to it as “if Ready Player One actually knew what it was doing.” Re:Creators is one of a trend of some anime where the narrative is extremely meta in nature, but rather than use this as a form of parody, Re:Creators instead focuses itself on using its meta storytelling to shine a light on Japanese popular media as a whole, both from the side of the creators who MAKE such things, as well as the side of the fans and not only their response to media, but their interpretation and addition to popular media. And unlike the more critical approach several horror anime have taken in the past, Re:Creators also shows the positive effect stories in the form of anime, video games, manga etc both on those who read it as well as those who create it. And show how fan creations and their responses and reaction to media are just as important and enriching to works like this as the very people who create them.

It’s also one of the first shows from any country that correctly portrays what online fan culture is like. Both good AND bad.

Erased (2016)

HOO BOY. The Big Guns. Most mainstream anime set in a modern setting inevitably seem to involve high school or at least characters who are high school aged. Erased, however, deals with a protagonist who is 28 years old. Due to time travel shenanigans, he is transported back to 1989 when he was 11 years old growing up in Hokaido. So already, this anime is complete skewing the generic setting for stories of its type, further hammered in by the fact that the show has no romantic subplot in it. There might be a smidge of something like “preteen romantic feelings” among the children but as far as “female hero the protag is going to fall in love with at the end” goes? Yeah there’s none of that.

Erased is an extremely dark anime, but not in the way Made in Abyss is dark. Whereas Abyss’ dark tone comes from things like getting eaten by monsters and body horror caused by the Abyss’ curse, the dark theme of Erased on the other hand is much more horrifying as it comes from “reality”. And it’s because of this I WILL have to warn people about its plot points because it WILL and DOES get uncomfortable.

The plot of Erased is our 28 year old protagonist gets hurled back in time to when he was 11 years old in Hokaido, as I said. In the winter of 1989 there were a string of child abductions and murders, and it’s up to our main character, again in his 11 year old body, to solve these crimes to prevent a tragedy in modern day. Not only does the show deal with the very uncomfortable topic of child abduction and murder, but a MASSIVE part of the plot revolves around the would be murder victim, Hinazaki Kayo, who is living with her physically abusive mother. And unlike shows like “Magical Girl SITE”, the abuse is not shown as “suffer porn” and blown up to be so over the top in how bad it is, ut is instead extremely grounded and feels waaaay to real to the point of being very upsetting. However, the abuse is not there to make the audience sad. The abuse is in the plot to further press upon the audience the borderline helpless state our main character is in. As a child, he has to rely on his experience and ability to think like an adult to try and prevent the serial murders, as WELL as try and get Hanazaki out of her abusive situation. It also serves as a learning experience for our main character, and him figuring out how he hasn’t changed at all since he really was a child, and how his own stagnation in life itself needs to change and be redirected. The show is bursting with tension and every episode exists to turn the stakes up just a little bit higher.

I’ve heard some people are extreme disappointed by the show’s ending which I will not spoil, but personally going into it completely blind, I didn’t find any of it to be a let down and its very quickly become one of my favourite anime of all time.

The Ancient Magus Bride (2017)

Based on a manga by Kore Yamazaki, who has stated that her reason for writing the story was out of frustration that in “Beauty and the Beast” type stories, the beast always turns back into a human at the end. However this anime is far more than just a monsterfucker’s romance novel (although it... DOES follow a LOT of those tropes but hear me out.)

Set in the English countryside (although our female MC, Rise, is herself Japanese) the show makes heavy use of english folklore. Faeries are a constant presence throughout the show, and these are not the “nice” kind of faeries you’d see in Disney. Despite theyr good nature and honest want to help, these are the kinds of faeries that will kidnap you to their realm if you so much as let your guard down. We also have excellent portrayals of Titania, the queen of the faeries, and her heated relationship with her husband Oberon. Several other creatures from folklore make an appearance too, as well as old traditions such as faerie rings, seeing stones and the magical properties of herbs and flowers.

But beyond all of that, and even beyond the romance tropes or monster protector who is also a threat and powerful lead female who also needs protecting, the core theme of the show is on life. Or more specifically, death. Rise is a girl who is suicidal. And despite her not making any kind of suicide attempt in the show, this is a fact. The majority of the show is focused on Rise learning to “be alive” again, as well as process what life is, as well as what death is in its many forms. The show is a slow build of Rise reclaiming her will to live, not because of a romantic partner, but for herself. Reclaiming her own importance as a person removed from who she could be useful towards, and a slow coming to terms with a truly terrible event in her past and letting go of a traumatic past.

The show has some pacing issues here and there, but I still qualify it as one of the better modern anime shows to have come out in years, and can only praise its life-affirming message it’s trying to tell.

Osomatsu-San (2015)

I am.... not entirely sure how to explain Osomatsu-San.

Based on a manga published in the 1960s by Doraemon Creator Fujio Fujiko about 6 identical sextuplet brothers and their friends... the current and newest anime adaptation has borderline nothing to do with its original incarnation which was more your typical Showa era “hi-jinx” type gag manga. I think the very first episode of Osomatsu-San (which is not available for official purchase last I checked due to copyright issues) sets up the entire show perfectly, as the 6 boys and their friends learn they have a new anime adaptation coming up and realise that nobody in the modern age will want or even understand Showa era manga. So, instead, in an effort to be like “a real anime” they go about parodying literally every popular trope and show that’s out at the time. From yaoi-incest baiting to Jpop boy band to Attack on Titan to Sailor Moon, they keep cranking up the “modern anime” aesthetic until it literally explodes and collapses in on itself. And after realising they don’t have what it takes to compete in a modern anime word, the characters resign themselves to being losers who will never achieve anything in life.... and that’s where the show starts.

I can only refer to the show as “Millennial humour: the anime.”. 90% of it is just comedy with our 6 main characters who are, at their core, pretty terrible people. However, their issues and struggles of trying to be adults make them some of the most relateable anime characters out there. The show bounces from parodying popular culture both in anime as well as in movies to outlining the problems of trying to be a late 20-something year old in modern society to actual hard hitting drama that actually makes you angry because how DARE this stupid show actually make you FEEL things???

It’s borderline impossible to try and explain this show because, just like its 6 protagonists, it doesn’t seem to have any direction in its life. Which is exactly the point.

[ NAVER ] KAI, Full-fledged attack on Japan as an Actor

Popular group EXO's KAI is showing off the power of Hallyu.

To commemorate the recent end of broadcast for KAI's first lead role drama KBS 1TV's "Andante" aired through Japan cabel channel WOWOW, an event has been prepared. This will be the first time for such an official event for KAI who previously only had his solo birthday party to meet his fans after his debut, which says a lot of his high position in Japan.

It would not be an exaggeration to say that this event to be held on March 21st at the Pacifico Yokohama National Convention Hall is accomplished by KAI's name value. KAI is expected to take part in the event through contents of a "personal fanmeeting" such as sharing stories with fans, performing song and more.

The 16-episode drama Andante which had it's first airing last year only achieved the highest rating of 2.8%. Relatively speaking, being aired at 10am on channel KBS1TV was not a condition conducing to become a hot issue. Especially considering other than KAI, the other actors such as Baek Chulmin, Kim Jinkyung & Lee YeHyun are all unfamiliar faces to audiences which also lowers the expectation for the popularity.

But in Japan the very fact that KAI is officially taking up the challenge of acting itself is having the positive effect of garnering the attention of local fans which led to export sales of publishing copyrights. Riding the wave of this interest, the production of a DVD was also decided on on the 19th. To be launched on two separate occasions of March 3rd and May 2nd, it will also be available for the public at various rental stores.

The OST album for the drama will also be on sale on the aforementioned event to be held on March 21st.

With this beginning, KAI's opportunity to raise the awareness of the public of him as an actor in Japan also continues.

Currently, he is starring in WOWOW's 5-episodes drama "Spring Has Come" which is still being aired. Prior to the broadcast, he has already appeared in various medias and participated in a Press Conference as an actor.

In the drama, KAI appears as a photographer from Korea who performs his dialogues in Japanese. Rather than the appeal of intensity overflowing with charisma during his activities within the group, a softer charm is displayed and it adds more to the joy of a refreshing feeling for the watching fans.

He is good at acting so I hope he will be acting more in the future - KAI's acting is good..well first and foremost he's very handsome so that's already nice to look atㅋㅋㅋ - I've been watching from Andante and now Spring Has Come too! I'm supporting KAI! Fighting! - I though he did the high school boy character justice in Andante but when I saw how good he is playing a mid-20s role in Spring Has Come I've made up my mind that he's good at acting. I support KAI! - I watched both Andante and now Spring Has Come and he matches both the different roles and storylines so well to the point you're not reminded of the other character or the person who plays it while you're watching. - So shocked at how opposite Jiwon in Spring Has Come was to the Shikyung in Andante. I think he was born with a skill to express something very well. - his acting as Jiwon-san is so good to the point i completely forgot i'm watching my favourite singer EXO. And...I have fallen in love with Jiwon-san^^ - I'm watching the Japanese drama mentioned in this article and it's so entertainingㅠㅠㅋㅋ The story is unique as well as the usual fast progress in a J-drama! I feel somewhat satisfied that he appears as this Korean who is like a healer to to the familyㅋㅋㅋㅋ - KAI's acting has this clear and bright feeling to it...maybe that's why he's able to do both mid-twenties and high schooler acting? - I'm watching your acting very well~ I'm anticipating more in the future - It was hard to wake up on Sunday mornings but because KAI was in it I started watching Andante. The content of the drama was so touching and it was regretful that the ratings couldn't go higher so I'm so happy to hear that it was even sold to air in Japan. It is my hope that more people will get to watch Andante because so you will feel so many touching emotions. Congratulations! - Spring Has Come has provocative contents but somehow it's also warm...it's a profound and mysterious drama - I've been following KAI since Andante because he can act..and now he's a lead in Japanese drama..anticipating this too - KAI i'm watching your drama very well - jongin-ah I'm always supporting your moves - I've fallen deeply into the charms of the KAI who is acting ㅠㅠㅠㅠ Shikyung in Andante was surely cute but thanks to the Lee Jiwon character who eminates the scent of an Adult man I'm suffering every day  ㅠㅠㅠㅠ  I'm really anticipating the future moves of Actor KAI. - The acting in both Andante & Spring Has Come is good and he has a good voice that makes you focus very easily. I will keep on supporting you in the future!

- Andante left such a deep impression on me. For someone like me who had a similar experience, I received so much comfort from it and I feel so touched while watching it, to the point I think of it as the Drama of my life. Now i found out that he's doing another activity in a drama I'm really anticipating it. His acting is natural and he has a pleasant outer appearanceㅎㅎ It will be great if  I could meet more with Actor KAI in the future.

- I watched both of them...KAI seriously...one moment he's a high school kid and in the next he's a grown-up man....his atmosphere in the two dramas are totally different I was so shocked - Wherever you are and whatever you will do you will always be amazing so have strength and fighting!! - I think KAI has something that can entice the hearts of people...there's no other way but to just love him - wow that's Daebak..EXO KAI is really cool - the thing that shocked me so much about his acting as Jiwon in Spring Has Come is he's showing all these charms that makes it so hard to believe it was the same person who played Shikyung in Andante. His voice is nice and his romantic gaze is SO good I didn't even realize I have totally fallen hard for him while watchingㅠㅠㅠ - If i'm watching KAI's fluttering acting without even realizing it i'm just smiling like an idiot - rather than the frivolous high schooler he matches the recent drama role so much better. of course his japanese is less than perfect but that's fine because he's appearing as a Korean anyway. It's fun and waiting for it today. - Andante was such a good drama~~ I feel happy that it's getting good results in Japan - To be honest, according to my standards the KAI in Spring Has Come is so much better than in Andante. As KAI has good acting skills and great looks I think it will be great if he plays this type of attractive roles more in the future! I think he would also do very fine as a sexy but evil type of character tooㅋ - today I watched Spring Has Come too. I was impressed with the gentle and acting depth that you showed. KAI fighting! - Jiwon's attractive charms are different than Shikyung. Shikyung is cute and so lively whereas Jiwon-san is tender and gentle but he has a darker inner sides to himㅠㅠ it's so fun. And Naoko-san who appears as the heroine is also very prettyㅠㅠ  KAI fighting! - What I felt from watching Spring Has Come episode 3 just now... KAI is very attractive and handsomeㅠㅠㅠㅠ  not saying that it's just his good looking face but it's actually his overall atmosphere as a person, and his voice and the look in his eyes were all good. i hope he has more acting activities in the future. - I bought this drama at N-store & i'm watching it; it's your typical j-drama and his acting is good, not awkward at all - he's the perfect fit for the role! i hope you keep doing well as an actor!!

“What’s he then that says I play the villain?” (Othello: Act 2, Scene 3)

Okay - so to start this review. I have to place myself outside of myself. Jandy the fangirl watched this film at least twice (maybe three times) and couldn’t shut up about how hot Dylan was when he was being  dreamy but evil.

BUT then I decided to be fair… and Jessica the impartial observer and critical thinker watched Dismissed one more time and actually had some worthwhile (and spoilery) thoughts.

SO. The story as an outline is actually very clever: Mr. Butler is a teacher at a school without a lot of student engagement. He doesn’t really want to be there either though - his dreams are the tenure track at a nearby university. But we start the film with him trying to get his students interested in English. There is a lot of Othello talk - and dips into Dostoevsky too. We also see a bit of his  family life - which doesn’t actually seem too terrible. Wife. New Baby. Great.

Enter Lucas Ward. Okay - so it’s hard to deny that this boy is freaking beautiful. He’s also more than a little awkward socially but he’s hella smart and he's got goals. Dylan’s own speech cadence (which is on display… this is literally how he talks himself) suits this slightly (more than slightly) awkward young man. He really wants Mr. Butler to like him. Lucas is a bit of a keener (this is the understatement of this post).

He even gives Mr. Butler a fancy decorative apple (which made my 14 year old son shout FORESHADOWING! – and he was right! Smart kid), does all the assignments from earlier in the term before he moved to town (because it’s important to him not to fall behind... even though he didn't have to do them) and answers questions and engages in Mr. Butler’s class. He’s the DREAM student. Even Mr. Butler is excited. He decides he wants to be Lucas’ mentor.

This is made even more convenient and easy when Lucas joins (and kicks ass at) the Chess Club (which Mr. Butler supervises) where he informs Mr. Butler that there is no point in doing anything unless you can be the very best at it.  Then, despite being the best player, Mr. Butler makes him the 2nd Seat at their next chess competition. (I literally facepalmed at David Butler at this point - he’s clearly never seen a suspenseful movie before) Lucas isn’t very thrilled at the prospect of being 2nd - but he seems to recover. This is one of Dylan’s best moments. You can literally see the wheels turning in Lucas’ head. It was very real here. He hasn't recovered... he just has a plan now.

Then (because by now we know there is a lot more going on here than just a teenager who really really likes to be the best at stuff) Lucas eliminates his competition at the chess club (as you do) with exploding Chemistry, and hands in a frakking dissertation on how Iago is actually the hero of Othello (seriously though- he’s not, guys). Lucas threatens to stab his pen through another kid in his class’ throat for talking too much in class… which was delightful actually - as was the smirk we barely see when he hears the kid in question murmur to a neighbour to be quiet) But of course the shit hits the fan when he’s only given a B+ on the paper and we start to see things unravel and tires are slashed among some other things.

Of course, winding around the rest of the initial narrative is Lucas’ friendship with Becca… can we call this a friendship? He uses her. He manipulates her. I was shocked that they didn’t end up romantically entangled… but then I wasn’t shocked because Lucas wouldn’t be able to pretend those kinds of feelings long term because at this point in the story we already know that as a child he used to imitate expressions trying to ‘pretend’ feelings… because he lacks the empathy and understanding to really feel them. Classic sociopath (not psychopath as stated in the film).

So when Mr. Butler sorta figures out what’s going on here with Lucas and the fact that he’s basically extorting his teacher for a grade. He also conveniently finds out about Lucas’ past… after talking to Lucas’ father (Holy cow Chris Bauer delivers a great performance!) where Lucas basically ruined a previous teacher’s life over a History term paper about how it was Hitler’s methods that were the problem - but his belief in perfection was totally possible. The teacher thought it in bad taste (as it is) and gave him a poor grade… BIG Mistake.

This leads Mr. Butler to choose to give Lucas an F for his mid-term grade --- honestly how did this become a good idea, David? But it brought about my favourite scene (as gif’d below) - I just want you to pay close attention to the lack of socks as Lucas trashes his bedroom. I wonder if this was a Dylan decision or a costume designer decision. Perhaps we’ll never know. Can one of you fangirls who meet him in the future ask about his thoughts on socks? ANYWAY - back to the meta.

This is the point where my biggest criticism of the film comes in actually. I feel the beginning of the film was neat and clear - if not struggling because I am not a huge fan of how Kent Osborn (Mr. Butler) chose to interpret his character. I don’t ever actually LIKE Mr. Butler. He’s cold. Aside from one scene where he’s excited to be a mentor to a kid who has shown actual interest in his subject - there is little in this performance to bring me to Mr. Butler’s side. I mean - other than the other side being inhabited by a complete sociopathic monster.

I found (and this is Jessica the impartial reviewer here) just wondering why the hell Mr. Butler couldn’t give the kid his A so he could go to Harvard and become a titan of industry someday? It’s not like Lucas is any worse than those in power right now anyway. Mr. Butler comes across as a spiteful bitter man off put by Lucas' Type A personality. This has absolutely nothing to do with my love for Dylan. It was a flaw in the writing for Mr. Butler. Lol.

Add to that - Lucas’ underhanded plan to get Becca to make a move on Mr. Butler (another way for Lucas to manipulate the situation and ruin Mr. Butler’s life) and how that bombs…. and then her fall off a roof now that Lucas is desperate (whoops - that was a mega spoiler… and was my second favourite scene in the film). But hey, on the upside - she got to hug Dylan before she was pushed so that’s a plus, right?

Anyway yes. So after that part the ending basically falls apart. Not counting the really great scene where Lucas emotionally (fake) talks to the police, the ending includes an almost disassociating Lucas (though not - because he’s in way more control than that) and a really really great performance from Dylan… but the writing just SUFFERS the closer we get to the denouement. And the absolute climax has a choking scene that borders on ridiculous - though YAY for bringing back the glass apple from the beginning! Way to go foreshadowing! Honestly, Dylan is LITERALLY holding the movie together at this point.

His last soliloqy might be my favourite few lines in the film. Where Lucas puts himself into the Iago role essentially. He /deserves/ success and when it was taken away from him… he was going to make Mr. Butler pay.

Of course Lucas doesn’t win. The story ends with things all tied up with a nice red bow with like 3 people dead and Lucas is in prison but it was the GETTING there that was such a huge disappointment.

The real travesty is that Dylan (in all his awesomeness) wasn’t enough to save the end of this movie. After the second rewatch it was pretty clear to me why it didn’t get wider release after it’s festival circuit - which is a shame because honestly, Dylan is a great actor and his performance is solid. He deserves another meaty role with better writing.

But the writing of the ending was just a HUGE disappointment to me. Give me the same result… just don’t give me a half-assed attempt at a choking scene - and Mr. Butler... he was just so unlikable.

ANYWAY - it was definitely worth watching (four times) and the Jandy part of me is thrilled that super pretty Dylan is back on my screen showing how freaking talented he is. The Jessica part of me was sad that something with so much huge potential had such a disappointing ending.

I was a bit confused as to why Inosuke was majorly angry all the time, but then I realised that he’s not necessarily angry, per se - he is just majorly competitive.

*head on spider legs appears* ARGHHHHHHHHHHH! That reminds me of that head on spider legs from Toy Story…I seem to remember that freaked me out to some degree. I’m actually not afraid of spiders, but show me an image for “trypophobia” (fear of tiny holes) or stick me somewhere high up without secure footing…and I’m gone.

This episode is…great! I’m cursing as I watch, but it’s great! The CGI is adding to the creepiness! Also, I so didn’t expect Zenitsu to have black hair.

I agree with Zenitsu’s master, he is a moron…

…but truth be told, I think I see myself in him. That’s probably why I find him so annoying. Lately, I’ve found there are periods where I resent myself more than anyone else…and that’s the scariest part about living life. But I can’t complain, because I put my name down to help others in the same situation.

So…I went searching…and I was wondering why I wanted to claim Tsukasa as husbando (but man, he’s a bit more stereotypical for a gal to fall in love with – all girls like bad guys, amirite???), but as it turns out, Senku and his buds from our era (Tsukasa included) are 18 and so are ripe for the husbando/waifu picking (not to mention they’re technically over 3700 years old, which more than makes them legal for things like drinking alcohol, as Senku himself pointed out a few eps back).

D’aww…this was in the manga, but now I find Tsukasa inserting himself into Senku’s flashback cute.

Notably, Gen Asagiri appears on the front of the book this student is asking the question from. Who’s Gen Asagiri, you ask, my dear anime-only random nonexistent entity I type these notes for? You’ll find out…soon.

Why do you not like Rise in Persona?

Hoo, boy.  I was expecting an ask about my opinions on characters someday, but I never thought it’d be this soon, nor was it about why I don’t like a character.  I mean, I’m just a tiny art blog in the corner who loves reblogging food, gaming stuff, cute stuff, and diamond boys and wolf husbands.

However, send me a polite question, and I’ll be sure to answer as coherently and as politely as I can.  

WARNING: This is an extremely long post with an opinion.  If you cannot handle that I have a different opinion to you, sorry, but that’s your problem.  It’s very much possible to disagree and be polite about it, but if you’re going to be passive-aggressive or whine, it won’t change my thoughts at all.  On the contrary - it’ll just make me more resolute.  

I do apologize if it’s too long, but when it comes to explaining my reasons, I tend to be highly analytical and don’t hold back.  Character analysis is also something I like engaging in, and I do not like thinks half-done.  Also, just in case someone will spout flames or ask again in future, I suppose I’ll just link back to this.

Without further ado, my reasons on why I hate Rise Kujikawa from Persona 4:

- Confusing Social Link (SL)

The first probably will get me flak, but I get flames over something fictional, honestly, I need the heat: it’s winter here in Australia, and I’m freezing my butt off.  What’s sad is that I know what Rise’s SL is supposed to be about: she’s having an identity crisis where she thinks people like Risette and not Rise.  However, I did not get that message.  On the contrary, her SL confused me and denoted to me that she was very ignorant.

In the 3rd link, Rise goes to the city with Yu and is recognized by several people.  When she’s alone with Yu, she gets huffy and goes, “They just never learn!” Excuse me, but what were you expecting? Idols are a big thing in Asia, and you’re out in the open with no disguise. 

Her 4th and 6th links started grinding my gears because she starts throwing tantrums at her manager, Inoue.  But it’s hard for me to sympathize with Rise when she was outright acting like a brat and when Inoue runs away, she says: “I’m his daughter’s age, so he treated me like one of the family…”

Honestly, that strikes me as being ungrateful.  And I say she’s ungrateful because if you look at the life of idols, she had it better.  Hell, I don’t even like idols, but I can still say that I have respect for them in their field.  They not only sing, dance, and perform, but their work schedules are so busy that it’s usual that they only get about 2 hours of sleep and disorders.  It’s worrisome.  Yet, they do this all because they love to perform, for money or fame, and they love their fans.

Cruel or demanding managers aren’t uncommon in the idol industry.  Sadly, it’s very common.  Yet here’s a manager who treats Rise like family, and here she is throwing a tantrum in his face instead of choosing to calmly tell him that no, she’s not going back.  He even just wants Yu to give a fan letter to her, and she fucking screams at him and claims she feels “betrayed” by him.  Uh, you just said that he treats you like family, so excuse him for worrying. Also, it’s especially noteworthy if he, a manager in the idol industry, wants you back since in reality, idols can get easily replaced.

Her 5th link made me facepalm.  She only wanted to be an idol just so she could go on TV and make friends.  Sorry, but if that’s your reason to be an idol, you’re in the wrong profession.  As I mentioned before - being an idol takes a tremendous amount of work to the point of barely getting any sleep, constant activity, and having to deal with obsessive fans, an image (yes, having an image is part of the industry) and rumours.  You’d then wonder why someone would want to be in such an occupation.  Simple: because the person is passionate about what they do.  Some also do it for fame or money and simply use their talents to fuel it.  The good fans are an additional driving force for idols to continue doing what they do.  Either way: those who audition for the occupation know what they’re getting into and how much it requires of them.  However, the world of idol industry is still problematic, but Rise’s SL does not denote that. 

So to hear this from Rise honestly made me feel insulted for idols who do work hard and genuinely want it, and know how much they have to sacrifice.  There are far better ways for you to socialize and get through your bullying - being a public image and entertainer who continuously works is certainly not the way.  And honestly, her bullying backstory just looked like a cheap way to get sympathy.  Especially since we don’t hear why she was being bullied - it’s implied it’s a lack of social skills, but it’s never explicitly mentioned.  Ai Ebihara’s SL link did the bullying background far better.  

My mind basically buzzed in and out link 7 onwards because I didn’t give much of a damn at that point.  Basically, she gets upset she’s replaced by some other idol, Kanami, and starts crying when Inoue reassesses that she was talented and it’s a shame.  She goes on how it’s unfair that he told her how talented she was and had that spark just then, and that made my mind buzz out because sweetie, “Actions speak louder than words.”  Inoue wasted his time (keep in mind he’s a manager in the idol industry - not the president or CEO) to come here and try to convince you back to show biz.  They could’ve easily replaced you straight away with Kanami - you even stated Inoue treated you like family, so I’m just…?

What doesn’t help is her crying that she lost everything.  Uhh…wasn’t this SL supposed to be about you embracing you as yourself? Also, that’s nice: what about Yu? What about the rest of the Investigation Team? What about your grandma? Though she does rectify it when you show comfort, it still left quite a sour taste in my mouth because it’s when you show comfort, which you already would be giving in the previous links, that she realizes this.

Basically, I felt that her SL was very poorly thought out and a huge waste of time.  Plus, I wound up being in a relationship I didn’t agree to just because I showed basic human decency, which leads to my next point…

- Clingy and possessive

As soon as you rescue her, Rise immediately clings onto Yu and will continue being flirtatious, clingy and even pretty possessive.  Call me old-fashioned but excessive flirting that’s not coming from my s/o is not my cup of tea.  Even when you try to be evasive as Yu and/or you’re in a relationship with another girl (I was in one with Yukiko already), Rise will not back off.  

Her flirting with me in just her SL in a nutshell:- 2nd link: asks me what my favourite type of girl is just after eating- 3rd link: dragged me out to go swimsuit hunting and tells me to pay attention to her when she wears it (no thanks)- 4th link: outright said she’ll fucking marry me just to get her manager to back off.  I quickly denied and she still tries to insist with the story by claiming I’m “just shy” (grrrrruuuhhhh).- 5th link: surprisingly nothing- 6th link: brings up the marriage proposal again - take note she even states she knew I wasn’t interested yet she somehow in the 8th link…- 7th link: gets pissy if I simply note a girl is cute.  ”She’s cute, huh…?” - it can be interpreted in any way, but Rise’s response is precise, “That’s not a question you should be asking when I’m standing right here!” (ugghhh…).  - 8th link: started a relationship with me just because I showed basic human decency (ugggghhhh…)- 9th link: nothing interesting considering I was forced into a relationship-10th link: since I had no choice, she’s in my fucking room.  She basically starts searching my room for porn or some crap like that.  I said I don’t keep any (there’s the Internet, yo), and she responds by saying she’ll give me a photo album of her (WRYYYYYYYYYYYY D’8)

Keep in mind: I was already in a relationship with Yukiko.  What sucks is that there aren’t any options to tell her off or say you’re not interested.  And when she breaks down in link 8, you’re given two options: either hold her or stand there.  

Because I don’t like seeing people cry, I opted to hold her.  And instantly I was apparently in a second relationship that I never even fucking wanted or agreed to.  That really pissed me off because seriously? Are you really that desperate you’re going to cling onto a simple hug from someone showing basic human decency as the cue to start a relationship? The only way to apparently get someone to back off is by being a complete asshole to them? Okay, got it.

And it’s not even just her SL, either.  She got pissy when I was hanging out with Ai.  Ai (rightfully) told her to buzz off since it’s none of her business (this also made me start to love Ai), and that she shouldn’t be interrupting a conversation she’s not involved in.  Rise responds, “What’s wrong with you?” at Ai.  Excuse me, but what’s wrong with you? Don’t just come up and blow up at me or my friend just because said friend is a girl.  Yu can’t have hangouts or bro times with girls now? If a girl did that to my guy friend, I’d tell her, plain and simple, to fuck off and that he belonged to nobody.

This also happens in Marie’s link where Rise gets pissy when you’re with Marie and just showing her around.  Bonus points that Rise also gets pissed when Yosuke shows interest in Marie.  Honestly, who gives a fuck if Yosuke’s a Risette fan? You weren’t dating him - hell, you were rejecting his flirtations - and he’s not your property, either.  If he finds a girl cute, so what? You were supposedly not interested in him, and I thought you were interested in your beloved “senpai~!”?

And honestly, by that extension, that makes Rise’s character borderline sexist.  Clinging onto a man and being possessive of him because he rescues you, getting up front in other girl’s faces because he’s with them, continuously chasing and flirting with said man even if he’s already in a relationship, desperately clinging to basic human decency he shows you and having that start a relationship with him even if he doesn’t want it?

It’s also sexist in that it’s a wish fulfillment for “nice” guys who think that if they show a girl basic human decency, it’ll reward him with the girl throwing herself at him and proclaiming her love to him.

- Pointless in the context of the story)

Because story-wise, Rise has no point to the story.  She’s an idol with an identity crisis, and…so? What does that have to do with the murders in Inaba?

Yosuke works at Junes and that’s the group’s meeting place and portal to the Midnight Channel, Yukiko’s family owns the Amagi Inn which is the scene of the first crime, Kanji’s mother owns Tatsumi Textiles which is a lead, Naoto is a detective brought to investigate, Teddie is actually from the Shadow world.  Chie already fills out the extra slot and even provides as Yukiko’s best friend.  So seriously, what is the point of Rise in the story? To be my cheerleader? For moral support? The other characters already give that.

As a result, her inclusion shafts others who had far more potential to her.  Ai Ebihara and Ayane Matsunaga are girls I think would’ve had far more potential since they had more compelling and interesting SL’s, but there’s one other character who I felt got the shortest end of the stick in this situation and that is Naoki Konishi.

Naoki is the younger brother of the second murder victim.  How this boy doesn’t have a major role in the story is beyond me.  Plus, his SL is quite intriguing because it captures grief and coping with the loss of a loved one quite well in retrospect that you can develop a sense of apathy (such as when you get suffocated by pity from others; society’s hypocrisy at loss by alienation or preaching rather than truly supporting; and how apathy can be seen as a defense mechanism).  That could’ve been played so well in the game especially since Nanako almost dies - considering Naoki lost his sister, that would’ve been a very heartbreaking scene.  Plus, Naoki is also quiet, polite and actually quite shy and awkward - he could’ve easily given the Investigation Team a new dynamic and dimension for interaction.   He’s highly wasted potential.  (He’s also voiced by Derek Stephen Prince - I would’ve loved to hear him more) 

Rise, on the other hand, exists only for wish fulfilment.  Since the Persona series is a fantasy where you’re Gary-Stu, Rise fulfills the desire for these fans.  She’s pretty, popular, an idol, flirts with you (excessively), possibly more sexually active in regards to you or is at least willing to give you sexy pictures, practically throws herself at you after you rescued her (power fantasy), and she repays your show of basic human decency with herself.  Honestly, to me, that is highly pathetic.

You can easily give her role of Navigator back to Teddie - no need for another character.  Or give it to Naoki or whoever else has far more potential to the story.

If I wanted sexy girls, I’ll go to HuniePop or Dead or Alive because at least they have a point (fanservice).  If I wanted wish fulfillment, I’d play an otome.

- Other gross behaviour

The Amagi Inn definitely rises to my mind.  People blame Yukiko, and yes, she is partially to blame for not accepting responsibility.  However, it’s Rise who tells the girls that they should be keeping it a secret and encouraging them not to apologize.  So really, the incident is her fault and cemented my hatred that she’s highly irresponsible.

The second one is her treatment towards Kanji.  Say what you will about Yosuke, but I still cannot hate him because:a) He’s a stereotypical teenage boy - that’s how they act: they can be sweet, but they choose to be assholes because it’s more fun and amusing to get a reaction.  So basically, he’s a shit-stirrer.b) The homophobia argument falls flat when you realize he’s a Japanese boy raised in Japan - Japan is still very rigid in terms of gender and sexuality.  Even then, what Yosuke says comes off as teenage behaviour rather than him being purposely malevolent - he does mellow out as the game goes on, and give him a few years when he becomes an adult, he’ll most likely have matured.c) He still gets comeuppance, anyway such as getting beaten up, and Kanji can defend himself.

She shows the same behaviour towards Kanji but she never gets comeuppance.  And I was pissed off at hearing she called Kanji creepy just because he made stuffed plushies. 

In Persona Q, there’s a segment where you almost marry someone (yes, even boys).  I got Theodore (the damn adorable dork), and Rise’s objection to the wedding angered me: 

“Nooooo, not that kind of love! Senpai, look who you’re standing next to! It’s a guy!”

Say what you will about Yosuke, but I’m pretty sure he was never this blatantly homophobic.  Hell, Yosuke, who people accuse of being homophobic, says that "this isn’t the time or place for this [the wedding]."  Compare that to what Rise says, and all I can say is a hearty fuck you.

If this were any other author out there, chances are Yada would've been left as a plain old fan service character. I'm glad that Matsui-sensei isn't one of those. While I'm at it, I like that Matsui has always gone for a modest and conservative approach with his female characters (cases like Genuine and Irina don't count), and able to shine on stage with the male characters too. The only other work I've seen in a long time that's cleaner in this regard is Sket Dance.

Having been taught about the “second blade” by Korosensei, she’s been diligently learning techniques in reception and negotiation. Because she’s still in the stage of adolescence, her chest is still maturing, something the boys get restless about every day. She’s a companion who knows Irina’s phone number. Rather than teacher and student, they feel more like friends, and they’re planning to hold a hotpot party in the coming winter.

When Takaoka was one-sidedly pummelling on Nagisa (at Okinawa), she couldn’t help but turn away from the scene. She hates blood and gore, which is why she’s committed herself to perfecting her negotiation skills in order to avoid fighting.

- Muramatsu Takuya (addressed as Muramatsu-kun) -

In elementary school, he once popped into the classroom in which she was learning piano, but very soon he gave up on learning, which she still remembers.

- Kataoka Megu (addressed as Megu) -

In the past, there was a (short period of) time when she lost her heart to Ikemegu. Although, there are lots of girls who want to be close with Kataoka.

She had already noticed how Okano feels about Maehara very early on, and has been rooting on her from the side. But Maehara hasn’t noticed this at all, so she’s feeling pretty dissatisfied.

- Kurahashi Hinano (addressed as Hina-chan) -

They both have gentle and quiet personalities yet still have pretty high girl power, should any average boy look down and flirt with them, they'll be peacefully, verbally cornered into silence before they even notice.

- Okajima Taiga (addressed as Okajima-kun) -

Okajima has his eyes on her, but because he has no immunity against a real girl’s body, they have not reached a stage of being in (any physical) contact with each other.

3. Name three favorite writers.

Ahh, this is a toughie! I’m going to list three writers from different fandoms that I admire a lot.

A. Anappleofdiscord from fanfiction.net I’m pretty sure she doesn’t have a tumblr and even tho it’s been forever since I spoken with her personally, she is an awesome person and an awesome writer. She writes for the Hetalia fandom, focusing on gen stuff centering around England and America. If you know anything about the Hetalia fandom, it’s ridiculously rare to find platonic fics about these two and her fics are like the cream of the crop. Her characterizations are on point, her fics are educational and hilarious (and also a rollarcoaster of emotions) plus she pulls off OCs superbly. If you ever check out her fics, tell her that Listenerofshadows sent you ;)

B. Glimare from fanfiction.net I don’t know her personally, but I love her work in the DC fandom. Sadly, she’s since mostly moved on to other fandoms (which is great for her, if the feeling’s not there, don’t push yourself to write fanfic for certain fandoms) but she has a TON of content and it’s all so good. Her most-well known work is a collection of one-shots known as “Daddy, Not Bats”. It’s an AU where Bruce encounters the bat-kids at a younger age and decides to retire to raise them all. It’s sweet, fluffy and angsty all rolled into one.

C. @elfpen from AO3, Fanfiction.net and Tumblr.  I stumbled across her fanfic Reprise when looking for a good star wars time-travel fanfic to satisfy my needs and boy, DOES SHE DELIVER. Most time-travel fics center around the OT era or Obiwan and/or Anakin traveling to TPM, but hers focus on OT!Obiwan traveling back to the era BEFORE TPM. It’s a great fic, I love the characterizations and her OCs are on-point. Not to mention, she also has a lot of other awesome SW and HTTYD content.

4. Name three authors that were influential to your work and why.

A. Anappleofdiscord, again. Because she has actually beta’d my work before and given me great writing advice. I haven’t finished Neverlast, nor barely touched on it, but I’m thankful for her influence she’s played on it.

B. It’s hard to pinpoint my inspiration for my writing, because it’s kinda an intuitive thing? Like, I’ll be writing and a phrase comes up and I’m like “I know I stole that phrase from some fanfic lol” but i don’t know which one??? But basically all the fanfic writers I love are legions above me and I admire them all. But I have to say, I’ve started writing more third-person present tense because of a few good fanfics (but I can’t pinpoint which ones) which it’s a rare tense for a novel to pursue but I love the rhythm of it.

6. How did writing change you?

I’ve been writing before I could even write. Basically as a little four-year-old, I’d make pictures and then dictate to my older sister/mom what the pictures were about, essentially creating a storybook out of it. Since writing has been part of my life for so long, it’s so innate to me like breathing air. I know there’s a lot I could improve on writing, but it’s just a freeing way for me to express myself in a clear and concise manner. In real life, I can be awkward in how I word things and I have a tendency to trip over words or don’t fully pronounce my th-s and s-es. Fanfiction is great because I can explore my favorite concepts of a fanfic in a medium that people can enjoy reading in :)

7. Early influences of your writing

Once I discovered reading was fun (I didn’t learn to read until 2nd grade but that’s okay, because once I did I was reading several grades above my level) I devoured books. Some of my favorite books as a child are: PJO, Chronicles of Narnia, Boxcar Children and Black Beauty. I also did some RPG’ing at a young age, which greatly improved my writing as the constant writing at a rapid pace forced my writing to improve exponentially. There were roleplayers that I admired greatly that I imitated because I wanted my writing to be as good as theirs.

10. how do you do your researches?

Google, man, Google. For example let’s say my fanfic is a historical AU. I know a lot about history, but I might look up a historical site to proofcheck my dates or phrases of the time. Fanfic is nice, because it gives you an excuse to rewatch your favorite show if you wanna make sure you nail the characterizations. I might just look at a fan wiki if it’s a minor detail like what’s Ahsoka’s smaller lightsaber called.

Oohhh boy! I think everyone can agree that Yoda and Darth Vader are the two toughest SW characters to write for. It’s hard to get into the head of a 900 yr old troll and Vader is just…really hard? Palpatine is also hard not to make him the typical cookie-cutter villian (Which he is, but I’d like to try to give him some depth). I feel like I write a different take of Anakin every time I write a different AU involving him, but I think that’s because the AUs are at different points of his life and also the AU effects his reaction to things.

14. Easiest character to write.

I know it’s contradictory, but Anakin. He’s definitely chaotic good and it’s fun to write that archtype. I haven’t written much Obiwan (actually I have, but I can’t post it until I write the chapters bridging to him :/) but he’s more lawful good compared to Anakin and throwing those two into the same fic is fun to see. Padme is a fun one to write as well as Ahsoka.

17. Favorite AU to write

I have so many AUs so again, hard choice. Gotta say Impetus, since it’s the most I have written for and I love it. It deals more with the traumatizing effects that slavery/the Jedi have inflicted on Anakin plus an even more problematic Palpatine. I didn’t mean to recreate Palpatine in that fashion he’s basically a pedophile in this AU, the characters kinda just made it happen and I ran with it. It was supposed to be a humorous/fluffy what-if but like everything I touch, it’s also angsty ( ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)

19. Favorite fandom to write for

My favorite fandom to write for naturally changes with my interests. I was obsessed with YJ for a while, then Hetalia and now SW. Star Wars is fun to write for because there’s a big audience and it’s pretty easy to find a pocket audience who love the same types of things that you do. YJ will always be my first love. I’m currently writing a fanfic for a YJ fandom event, but I’ve been kinda struggling? I’ve lost my enthusiasm writing-wise even tho I still love it to bits.

20. Favorite Character to Write.

Anakin, probably. It’s funny because I used to never like the PT, but the Clone Wars changed all that. It’s a shame that Lucas went the direction he did for Anakin in PT because TCW uncovered a problematic but likeable hero and I wish we could’ve seen that live-action (It’s not Hayden’s fault btw, the director is the one responsible for what portrayal the actor gives)

Okay, so. I used to share an account on FF.Net with a friend and I wrote of a lot of YJ fanfics. One of them was a gen one-shot involving Bart and Jaime that received a good amount of attention. AND A REALLY GOOD FANFIC AUTHOR THAT I ADMIRED AND LOOKED UP TO REVIEWED MY FIC AND I HAVE NEVER GOTTEN OVER IT. I never in a million years imagined that my favorite authors potentially read my fanfics, let alone review/favorite it.

39. Do you want to be published some day?

Kinda. As a kid I’ve always wanted to get published but now I’m not so sure. I’ve never finished any fics other than one-shots and that really has gotten to me. My current goal is to finish at least one of my fanfics but I think I’ve been putting it off because I’m afraid it’s impossible to acccomplish. It’s silly, I know. I just need to do it.

40. Which one of your stories do would you most like to see as a movie/series?

Hmmm….probably my one-shot involving those two bounty hunter OCs. I could just see them trying to survive the universe with the least amount of weird space stuff happening but they seem to get pulled into it anyway. Those two are actually the easiest OCs for me to write, btw.

42. Do you plan or do you write whatever comes to mind?

I’m a weird creature. In life, I like to know things ahead of time. I like things to run exactly the way I planned. I don’t like unexpected variables. but in writing…I rarely outline. I usually write whatever is on my mind. Pure inspiration is awesome…until it runs out and feels like you’re pulling teeth to just to write a single sentence. That’s when I attempt to outline things.

Hismaster can freely touch every part of him he wishes. He can say words to him—hecan do anything he like to him.

Hecan say things like, “You know I love you, boy?” and the slave obedientlyanswers, “Yes, master.”

He’sso very young, but he knows that his master’s words and touch are not love.Only his mother’s is. He doesn’t know how to describe it. But he can feel thewarmth behind them, like hovering over a fire on a cold desert night. They arelike a thick blanket made of bantha furs, soft and comforting. They melt awayhis tears and fill his lungs with laughter.

Everyday, his mother tells him “I love you Ani.” and Ani, the slave boy, freelyreplies, “I love you too, Mom!”

Hefollows by her example, smothering her with hugs and tells her silly stories tohear her laughter that rings like the bells at the market stands. Because heknows love is the best medicine to heal anyone. It makes them feel fuzzy insideand they don’t feel so sad knowing someone cares about them.

Hismom gets sad a lot, so he does his best to repel the sadness away. He doesn’tget angry when she’s sad, because she isn’t angry when he’s sad.

“It’sokay to be sad,” She tells him one night as she runs her hands through hishair, “Everyone gets sad, just like how everyone gets angry or happy.”

“Mastersdon’t like it when we’re angry though.” Anakin pouted.

Shepauses; looking down at her son with a sad smile, “No matter what they say,you’re allowed to feel angry, Ani. Bundle it up, and keep it to yourself—andrelease it when they aren’t looking.”

“Areyou ever angry, mom?” He yawned as he snuggled closer.

“Yes.”His mother breathed deeply, and he could feel a bit of her anger—for aninstant.

It ishot—not warm like Love’s fire. No, it burns and consumes him for a moment. Itreminds him of all the bruises and welts that his masters have given him. Angeris selfish and doesn’t love. He doesn’t like seeing the giver of his Love feelthis way. He internally sighs in relief when her anger melts away as he told atale about a funny customer that came in that day.

Hehas never truly felt anger. He flinches from its’ touch and refuses to feel theemotion that his masters are fond of.

50. Your favourite character from any of your fandoms (pick one or several characters you like) is writing a fanfic STARRING YOU AS A CHARACTER. Regarding this fact, what kind of fanfic do you think he/she/they are writing about and how would you feel about you literally being in it?)

I feel like everyone relates when I say I don’t think my life is interesting. I’d pick Cassie from YJ because I feel like she’d be the type to write fanfic. I will say one ironic moment in my life is that I starred in a play as a shy bookworm girl who got the lead role in her school play alongside her crush, the star basketball player, incidentally they ended up together in the end. Everyone irl teased me about this but the truth is….I actually had a crush on the actor himself. We’ve known each other for years and are good friends. And the closest I ever gotten to “kissing” him was a moment in the play where our characters almost kissed before being interrupted by other students. But of course nothing real came of the play and we still remain good friends.  I always note in my head that the hollywood version is that we…would’ve hooked up in the end. I’m sure if I was a fictional character and Cassie shipped me with him and we didn’t get together in the end, she’d be writing a fix-it fic where our pairing is the true pairing in the end. If i wasn’t fictional, I’d feel really weirded out by it. I don’t like fic involving real people in it, especially if it involves ships. I’m almost 90% sure this guy doesn’t have a crush on me and just regards as friends. Which is okay, because I’m not sure if I even want a relationship at the moment.

ahh I’m so happy that our music taste overlaps!! can’t wait to listen to your recs later! 💛 of course, you probably know amazarashi either from that one ending from tokyo ghoul or sora ni utaeba from bnha! they also did an ending song for dororo that I liked a lot, I listened to it on a loop for days even though I still haven’t seen the anime yet. haha it was so cute that you came to tell me!!!

nothing but thieves!!! you know, they played a concert in my city once, before they even released the first full album, and I went there because I loved their song graveyard whistling a lot and the tickets were cheap, there was not a lot of people there and now I feel like an original fan haha, it's nice to see them get more and more recognition! yeah, the voice of the vocalist is really unique! their song impossible was my most listened song in 2020 according to my spotify 🎉 they recently released an orchestral version, I am in heaven...

my first fandom on tumblr was a us tv show called once upon a time. I never finished watching it (I’m considering rewatching it next year since lately I’m going back to many old favourites so why not this one as well) but I was veery obsessed with it at the time. and I loved the time I spent in that fandom, I mostly hung out with people who shipped one of the pairings and it was a very tight-knit community at the beginning. then the fandom grew and it got messy, as fandoms usually do, but it was a really fun time and I remember it very fondly :')

mdzs oh boy WHERE DO I START it’s just a really a really good story with a huge cast of well-written characters. I love the worldbuilding, it was my first touch with any chinese media and I instantly fell in love with its aesthetics. the story is incredibly engaging, there’s mystery, there’s political intrigue, there are found family tropes and so many incredible sibling relationships that will break your heart in two and the main character, wei wuxian... omg I love him so much, he’s such a mess but his heart is so good and he keeps to his morals even when the whole world is against him... also music magic!! raising the dead by playing a flute!! and lmao I’d almost forget about the main romance (censored in everything except the original novel), they invented soulmates... 

about heaven official’s blessing, tbh I only know a small part of the story as I only read the manhua and I watch the animated version that airs now, I don’t want to read the novel yet cause I can feel it in my bones that I will love it and I don’t have a headspace for more obsessions at the moment... head full.... maybe when my hyperfixation with no.6 lessens a bit but it’s not happening yet haha
