hi! i wanted to ask how could i write a scene of a band performing and make it flow smoothly? Reactions to it and inner dialogue of the leader singer while performing?
I hope that makes sense!
Thank you :)
How to Write a Band Performance
Set the Atmosphere with Sound and Sensory Details
Use sensory language to capture the energy of the music, the movement on stage, and the audience’s reaction. Think about the sounds of instruments, the lights, the thrum of bass vibrating through the floor, or how the crowd looks.
Example: The drums kicked in, a thunderous heartbeat that pulsed through the packed venue. Strings followed, filling the air with an electric charge, and the lights dimmed just enough for the crowd to lean in, hungry for the next note.
Anchor the Lead Singer’s Focus
The lead singer might catch moments in the crowd, like a fan mouthing every lyric, someone laughing, or even seeing familiar faces in the sea of people. These little connections add a human touch and make the performance feel alive.
Example: He spotted a girl in the front row, eyes closed, every word leaving her lips like a prayer. She knew each lyric by heart, maybe better than he did. That look kept him grounded—kept him singing.
Use Inner Dialogue to Show Nerves, Confidence, or Distraction
Let the lead singer’s mind wander a bit, but keep it tethered to the music. They might think of something unrelated that they suppress to stay focused, or maybe they reflect on what this song means to them, especially if it’s deeply personal or symbolic.
Example: Here we go. Breathe. Just like rehearsal. But it was never just like rehearsal. Each word brought him back to the night he wrote it—a night he barely survived. He shook off the thought. No. Tonight, it’s just for them.
Describe Body Movements and How They Connect to Emotion
Physical sensations can be as telling as dialogue. The lead singer might feel the warmth of the spotlight, the stickiness of sweat on their skin, or the way their voice feels strong, raw, or strained.
Example: He gripped the mic stand, fingers tight, and leaned forward. His voice cracked on a high note, but he let it, gave it to the crowd raw. They wanted his truth, his realness. That was all he had to give.
Show the Crowd’s Reaction
Describe reactions like a wave, where energy ebbs and flows. The crowd might sway during slower parts, roar during the chorus, or go silent in the song’s more intimate moments. This back-and-forth dance adds rhythm to the scene.
Example: As the first chorus hit, the crowd became a sea of outstretched hands, fingers clawing for a piece of the music. A roar rose, then softened as they sang with him, their voices tangling with his own, something fragile and fierce all at once.
Balance Between Action and Inner Thoughts
To keep the scene flowing, alternate between what the singer does (interacting with the mic, moving on stage) and what they think. Too much inner dialogue could slow down the scene, so give action and reaction space to keep the reader engaged.
Example: He took a step back, holding the last note, letting it resonate through the space. He stole a glance at his bandmates. They were lost in the music too, faces set, eyes closed. It felt like the old days—a secret between them, shared with everyone.
End with a Climactic Moment or a Release of Tension
End the scene with a dramatic finish, like a powerful note, a burst of applause, or even silence if it’s an emotional song. The lead singer could feel relieved, drained, or exhilarated by the end.
Example: As the last chord faded, a brief silence hung over the crowd—a pause, a heartbeat—before it shattered with applause. He closed his eyes, letting it wash over him, knowing that for now, the song was enough.

DPxDC Danny's Strange Gifts to the Bats
So you know how it's common knowledge to not accept any gifts from the Fae? Well, even if the batfam knows about it - I mean, they've dealt with a lot of otherworldly stuff, besides, you shouldn't take things from strangers no matter if they are Fae or not - they might not always abide by it. Unknowingly.
The trick is that you never know if it's a gift or not when you're dealing with the fair folk.
So things start appearing in the Wayne manor. Nothing out of the ordinary, really. A book left on the table in the library, a vintage teacup in the kitchen drawer, a cat toy with some real bird feathers. No one pays them much attention. After all, when you live in a family this big, you don't really keep track of who brings home what.
The book was probably left by Jason. The teacup is most likely Alfred's new addition. The cat toy is totally Damian's. It's not the first time and surely not the last when one or another member of the flock brought something to the manor. The book is put on the shelf, the teacup is now Steph's favorite, and Alfred the cat really likes those feathers.
And then, one day, they all get down for breakfast. Damian is the first to appear, with Alfred the cat in his hands, then comes Dick, who stayed in the manor for the weekends, and Steph, who was here for the movie night and decided going home was too much work. Tim comes to the table with a tablet that is quickly put away the moment Alfred starts serving food. Bruce and Duke come the last, taking their seats, and it is almost like a signal for everyone to start eating. After all, everyone is here now. It is peaceful and quiet, a rare but not unwelcome occurrence that Bruce greatly appreciates.
That is, until a few minutes later, Damian appears in the doorway.
"Good morning," he greets, and everyone at the table freezes.
And then does a double take.
Damian is in the doorway.
Damian is also sitting in his seat, eating waffles, the only one who did not stop when the other Damian appeared.
There are two of them.
Damian-sitting-at-the-table looks up to Damian-standing-in-the-doorway and smiles. His face is stuffed with waffles.
"Goov movning, bvothev," he greets back, and before anyone else can react, Damian-in-the-doorway clicks his tongue.
"You are in my seat. Move."
"I don't see your name on it, therefore it is not yours," argues the other one, not moving from his place. Yet now, when everyone can see his eyes, they finally notice the difference. The one sitting at the table has blue eyes.
Tim all but jumps up from his seat, slamming his hands on the tabletop:
"You-" he nearly chokes on his words, when blie-eyed Damian looks at him, and then at everyone at the table with a confused frown.
"But I thought you liked the vintage films for your camera that I got you? And those four-leaved clovers?" He asks, looking almost hurt. The normal, green-eyed Damian looks thoroughly disappointed:
"Have you been accepting my brother's gifts, Drake? You're lucky they were not courtship gifts."
"Court-" Tim sputters in the middle of the word, looking between the two.
Bruce lets out a long, absolutely resigned sigh. Was it too much to ask for just one, single normal morning?..
Long story short, Danny, being a fae and also just generally a little shit, kept leaving gifts for Bats all over the manor, and they all unknowingly accepted them one way or another, so now Danny has the power to ask for something in return. He chooses to just come to the manor and dump the fact that he is going to live here on them at breakfast. Technically, he just ended the long line of gifts by giving the last one, himself.

Relationship prompts based on Taylor Swift's 1989 album!
WELCOME TO NEW YORK — "When we first dropped our bags on apartment floors took our broken hearts, put them in a drawer" (Visiting a new place, traveling with each other, or moving in together.)
BLANK SPACE — "Oh my god, who is she? I get drunk on jealousy" (Making each other jealous, whether it is accidental or on purpose, teasing the other.)
STYLE — "You got that long hair slicked back white t-shirt and I got that good girl faith and tight little skirt" (Shopping together, getting new clothes for one another, dressing up in their favorite attires).
OUT OF THE WOODS — "When we decided to move the furniture so we could dance" (Fond memories, domestic moments together, the soft side of the relationship.)
ALL YOU HAD TO DO WAS STAY — "You were all I wanted, but not like this." (Right person, wrong time!)
SHAKE IT OFF — "My ex-man brought his new girlfriend she's like Oh my god! but I'm just gonna shake" (Seeing each other after the breakup, trying to act cool in front of the other despite the obvious feelings they still have.)
I WISH YOU WOULD — "I wish you were right here, right now, it's all good, I wish you would" (Spending some time apart, missing each other, talking only through the phone and missing the other's person touch.)
BAD BLOOD — "Did you think we'd be fine? I still got scars on my back from your knife" (Betrayal, a terrible breakup, lovers-to-enemies.)
WILDEST DREAMS — "Tangled up with you all night, burning it down" (The intimate moments, what happens when they’re finally alone.)
HOW YOU GET THE GIRL — "Broke your heart, I'll put it back together" (Apologies, realizing they’re wrong, reconciliations, or the aftermaths of a big fight.)
THIS LOVE — "Your kiss, my cheek, I watched you leave, your smile, my ghost, I watched you leave" (The relationship ended after one of them dies, the relationship still haunts them, literally or metaphorically.)
I KNOW PLACES — "Baby, I know places we won't be found" (Hiding the relationship, sneaking out to meet in the middle of the night.)
CLEAN — "When the flowers that we'd grown together died out of thirst" (Finally getting over a relationship, learning to move on, and forgetting that person.)
WONDERLAND — "Didn't they tell us don't rush into things?" (Falling crazily in love, knowing this will end but doing it anyway, risking everything to be with this person.)
YOU ARE IN LOVE — "You can hear it in the silence, you can feel it on the way home" (The realization, the first time one of them says “I love you” to the other, the point of no return.)
NEW ROMANTICS — "Baby, we're the new romantics, the best people in life are free" (Going out to party, making mistakes, staying up to see the sunrise, and kissing while drunk.)

Rejanis. Dealer’s choice. ;)
32. A kiss while someone watches
Regina barely slept last night. Actually, she hasn't slept well for at least a week. Her body feels sluggish while her brain moves fast, thoughts whipping by like she's in a car with a steering wheel that doesn't work.
She picks at her thumbnail while her friends gather into a circle, and Kyle places the bottle in the center—an empty wine bottle Regina had pulled out from the recycling bin in the garage.
Regina tries to think of a way out of this game but comes up empty; she's positive that if she protests, everyone will somehow, suddenly know.
They'll know that Regina's been spending her nights staring at her ceiling, trying and failing to think about anything or anyone but Janis. That she runs her phone battery down scrolling through Janis's personal and art Instagram accounts and her camera roll, full of photos of them together or just random photos of Janis, for hours. That last night, Regina hesitantly typed am I gay? into Google.
As Kyle and Karen make juvenile jokes about kissing, Regina gets the creeping, panicky feeling she did when she got on the biggest roller coaster at Six Flags last summer—like she's being strapped into an experience she doesn't want to have and handing the controls to her life over to someone else.
Kyle's big, boyish hand lands on her knee, and Regina jumps.
"You good, babe?" he asks, and Regina fights not to cringe like she does every time he calls her that.
"Good, all good," Regina says, hoping she sounds cool and casual. Not that she expects Kyle to pick up on any nuance in her tone.
They've kissed a few times, and it hasn't been particularly enjoyable. Kyle's lips are rough, and he presses in too hard, is too eager to use tongue. Every time, it leaves Regina with the unsettling thought that there is something deeply wrong with her.
"I'll go first!" Karen says enthusiastically, reaching forward and giving the bottle a spin.
Regina sits back on her hands, watching as the bottle slowly spins to a stop, pointing right at Kyle. All the eyes in the circle turn to her, and belatedly, Regina realizes she's supposed to give a shit.
"Watch yourself," Regina says, pointing at Karen. Everyone laughs, but there's a distinct tense energy in the room—probably because Regina knows for a fact half the people here have never kissed anyone.
Karen shuffles over to Kyle, resting a hand on his shoulder and leaning in. Karen, at least, has kissed a few people already, so she's playing for fun, not to increase the number of fingers she can put down during a game of Never Have I Ever.
The kiss is short and relatively chaste, because Regina knows Karen would never actually kiss her boyfriend, and certainly not in front of witnesses. But Regina knows she's supposed to be jealous, possessive, so when they part, Regina slides her hand into his and gives him a look.
"Sorry, babe," Kyle says sheepishly as Karen scoots back to her spot.
Regina presses a brief kiss to his lips and reaches for the bottle, saying, "I'm not watching you kiss someone else again so soon." In truth, she just wants to get this fucking over with.
Regina stares, almost hypnotized, as the bottle spins around and around. She's so focused on the movement that it takes her a moment to realize that it's stopped.
On Janis.
For a minute, Regina has no idea what to do. Of course she wants to kiss Janis. She thinks constantly about kissing Janis. She has dreams about kissing Janis. But she's spent every night for the last month praying to anyone who would listen that she could stop wanting. Stop wishing.
Regina realizes that she's been frozen too long, and Janis is starting to shift uncomfortably. The only way out is through, she figures. So she crawls over, sets her hands on Janis's shoulders, and leans in before she has time to think about it too much.
It is absolutely nothing like kissing Kyle. Janis's lips are so soft, and she tastes like the Twizzlers she had been eating. She inhales just a little when Regina makes contact, so that Regina can feel it, and it takes all of her willpower not to shiver.
This, Regina thinks absently, is what it's supposed to feel like.
Regina's whole skin is buzzing like she's electrified, and she tilts her head a little so they fit together more seamlessly. It's like everything suddenly falls into place, and she understands what she's been missing this whole time when her friends talk about their crushes.
Janis tenses beneath her, and Regina pulls back abruptly, realizing with a start that she's taken way too long. There are a few giggles behind her, and she feels her face burn hot. Janis is looking at her, wide-eyed, an expression Regina has never seen before.
Regina hears a whisper behind her, maybe Gretchen to Karen, and she has to do damage control. Now.
Regina slides back to her spot in the circle, a coy smile forced onto her lips.
"I knew she'd let me do that," she says, like she's saying it only to Kyle but she makes sure it's loud enough for everyone to hear. "She's like, obsessed with me." She smirks and flips her hair over her shoulder and she feels sick, like she might throw up all over Gretchen's Steve Madden boots.
More giggles and whispers, but this time they're looking at Janis, and Regina feels a sense of relief knowing that it won't be her they're talking about at school on Monday.
Regina chances a glance at Janis, who is looking at Regina like she's never seen her before. Regina looks away, desperately trying to think of a way to let Janis know how much she didn't want to do that without toppling her carefully crafted house of cards.
Maybe it would be easier if Janis hated her, actually. Sure, it'd hurt, but maybe it would stop these thoughts. These feelings. It's you or me, Regina tries to silently tell her.
And Regina will always pick herself.

Hi! Sorry to bother again but can I request prompts for characters playing an instrument such as piano or violin? Like they are really good at it sometimes conveying either sadness or just happiness in love
Prompts for Showing Emotion through Music
-> feel free to edit and adjust pronouns as you see fit.
She had seen him like this only once before. The harsh notes of the piano pounded against her temples as she stared at him. His music was angry. He slammed his hands down on the keys, beating the notes out quick and loud. His brows were furrowed, the veins in his hands prominent due to the tension in his arms. The music screamed every livid thought that he could not bring himself to say.
They felt like the world was ending. Their hands shook as they slid the bow across the strings of the violin. The notes came out warbled. Tears fell down their cheeks, falling onto the body of the instrument that rested under their chin. They didn't know what else to do with themselves, and so they played their sorrowful tune and hoped that no one was around to hear their pitiful display.
Her hands danced across the keys of the piano, the notes light and playful. Her heart hammered in her chest, her cheeks were flushed pink. She couldn't help the smile that spread onto her lips. The music sang the song that overwhelmed her heart, an optimistic sound that flooded the room. She was in love.

Sufjan Stevens Song Lyrics Prompts 🦢
That no one asked for, but I found some of the lines from Seven Swans to be quite lovely...so here we are.
I am joining all my thoughts to you.
If I'm alive this time next year, will I have arrived in time to share?
I can see a fireside turn blue, and I can see a lot of life in you.
To see you, to meet you, to see you at last.
Will I be a part of what you've made?
I think the dress looks nice on you.
We stayed a long, long time but I'm not afraid to die.
Be still and know your sign. The beast will arrive in time.
You gave your ghost to be alone with me.
Lake or lamb, there is none to harm.
What the water wants is sun kiss and land to run into and back.
I'll hit the earth with you.
And what if I put off my inheritance?
Hold to your gun, man and put off all the beast.
And so I go to hell, I wait for it but someone's left me creased.
I've never known a man who loved me.
You woke me up again and I'm still asleep but you woke me up to be holy.
Hold on, hold on to your old ways or put off, put off every old face.
My father burned into coal, my mother saw it from far. She took her purse to the bed.
Keep your word, disguise the vision 'til the time has come.
Break a glass against the table. Break a promise if you're able.
Put off on your son, take instead the ram.
I was the best man in a size too small. You were my best friend, going at it all.
And what if I told you I was still in love with this?
I still know you and I still like you.
So faithful, so few.
When we receive, we give a change at last.

“Awfully nice of Rebecca to allow you to help with my hair tonight,” Beatrice said. Danny bit back a smile. “She can hardly ever spare you, I know, but I’ve missed you and I am not ashamed to say it.”
“I hope my work will measure up to your standards then.”
Beatrice chuckled. “If anything, having you work on my hair has raised my standards. Dramatically. While you’re at it, dearest, do tell me whether you think I ought to get it cut.”
Danny froze. In the mirror, her eyes were wide with surprise. “You’ve never called me that before.”
