(Ares and Ody are sitting awkwardly across from each other.)

Ody: So, Athena asked us to try finding what we have in common.

Ares: We both want this to end. Done. (Stands up)

Ody: Yeah, but I don't think that's what she meant....uh, I love Penelope and you love Aphrodite.

Ares: That's true. (Sits back down) Aphrodite's amazing.

Ody (with a goofy grin): Penelope just has the brightest laugh.

Ares (head in hand): Aphrodite's so smart and pretty.

(Hours later, they're kicking their feet in the air while on their stomachs)

Ody (gleefully): And then this one time, Penelope made this little snort sound!

Ares (gasping): You're kidding! Aphrodite does that too! It's adorable!

Ody: I know right!

(Penelope and Aphrodite are about to enter the room. Athena stops them.)

Athena: Don't do in there. You'll be a distraction.

Penelope (confused): There's so much giggling in that room. We wanted to see what was going on.

Athena:...bonding.

Aphrodite: Between who?

Athena (directing them both away from the room): You wouldn't believe me if I told you.

When you've known someone like this for nearly your whole life...it doesn't matter how bad the fight is.#You always think 'We'll always have time. He dies and suddenly there will never ever be time to repair the rift.#Someone you loved died thinking you hated them. And part of you did just a bit. But love and hate aren't mutually exclusive.#He's fucking dead and you are left with so many broken and unfinished pieces between the two of you.#Jiang Cheng loses Wei Wuxian thinking that WWX thought they hated each other.#He's a younger brother who will one day be older than the person he lost.#Who has no one else in the world who understands those feelings of love and hate and grief.#I can't be normal about this character. I don't think he even heals me. Zero catharsis to be gained here.#I just look at his sour grape ass and think 'shit that's a little too close to home.' JC is my discomfort character.#I'm probably going to regret being this vulnerable in the tags in like. An hour. I don't think I ever fully realized that in many ways, The Odyssey is a tragedy until I listened to Epic. Because he survives and he manages to get home and see his family again, so it doesn't really strike as a tragedy.

But then there is Epic going, "but look at all he lost to get there, all the people that died for him to get home. Don't forget that the man you met at the start of the musical is not the one that makes it home. He dies in "Monster.""

#knowing that Odysseus is the only survivor makes everything else so tragic cause ypu know everyone else dies #maybe it would be different if he listened to athena from the start or if he listened to polites or he never died #gosh #i dont know if this is coherent #i juat have so many feelings #epic the musical #the underworld saga

The thing with Cleon and Masai though is that even though Cleon is clearly shown to be some sort of successor to Cyrus in her ideals, Masai doesn’t worship her in the same way he did Cyrus (like he literally called her the ‘streets Jesus’)

Which could just be because he just hasn’t known her long enough, but also Cleon literally inspired him enough to continue believing in a dream that he didn’t think existed outside of one person, which you would think would allow him to just transfer his idolisation. But instead it seems to make him realise that the idolisation almost wasn’t necessary

Like seeing Cleon continuing to believe in Cyrus while literally fighting for her life probably makes him realise that she and Cyrus were one and the same. People (just people) who want to work for a better future. It probably makes him realise for the first time that he too can fight for this dream. Because peace doesn’t depend on people worshipping Cyrus, but rather being inspired by her.

I think this is why he sees Cleon as an equal and perhaps why he sings alongside her in ‘Somewhere in the City’ because he doesn’t need to hear someone else tell him what he believes in anymore, he knows that everyone who believes in Cyrus needs to speak up to build a better future.

#god the relationship between cleon and masai makes me insane #and if i said the decision to have cleon live was the most important change from film to album #(other than the gender swap)#i do think it’s really interesting how masai explicitly still believes in cyrus here #especially given that in warriors jail break (aka a universe where cleon is dead)#masai literally tells swan that peace died with cyrus #also in terms of symbolism i think that during somewhere in the city masai would actually take of his sunglasses #bc he now sees the bigger picture #whereas the movie version of him has to keep them on bc he never reaches that conclusion #i love cleon so bad she is everything to me #warriors musical
