This crossover collage was inspired from the YouTube videos Musically Disney AMV's had done of Isabela playing the role of Nefer from the new 2023 Mummies film. Isa seems to be a popular choice for princess or simply upper class roles, like Jasmine from Disney's Aladdin.
I watched "Mummies" (2023) and my two main takeaways are:
It had the gall to not only have actual Black characters, but feature a scene of a musical adaptation of the Egyptian-set opera "Aida" where the whole cast (dressed in Egyptian garb) were Black - but have all the actual Egyptian mummies be all white. Whaaaaaaaaaack.
In the serious romantic downturn moment near the end of the movie, they play. Fucking. "Far Away" by Nickelback. Hello?????? They had "Walk Like an Egyptian" by The Bangles (an even older song) play during the dance party ending & credits, but at least that's humorously relevant. Far Away by Nickelback????? You couldn't have used an original song for that, with or without lyrics? Oh my god. I can't believe that actually happened. If there's a clip somewhere I must have it.
Honestly seeing the trailer for Mummies 2023 just somehow makes the whole WB situation more frustrating.
Because 1. They greenlit what has to be one of the most paint by numbers story I’ve seen in a while going by the trailer
Which is a shame because the concept has legit potential.
People coming from the land of the dead to the land of the living to retrieve a stolen item?
That could have had actual potential.
But no let’s go with the standard fish out of water romance subplot everyone has seen a 100 times
2. This got greenlit over all of the other stuff got shelved
And that’s just not even the tip of the iceberg of things that uh definitely were a choice WB made with this movie. Those were just the ones I feel like I can comment on. Without starting up some sort of discussion about other things I don’t have the energy for right now
Congratulations, Mummies, you are the first animated movie I have walked out of because it was bad!
Take a “magical people/creatures in the modern world” movie like Onward or Hotel Transylvania, make it 50 times more uninteresting, and add elements of Tangled with the whole marriage plot.
Even one of the only other people there was texting someone! That’s how bad it is!
