Here in Brazil (in Brazilian Portuguese, at least) we have a different relationship with the n word and the word for Black/black. As explained in a video by a Black man (the link doesn't work, if you'd like I could send a message), here in my country there were many different terms to refer to separated identities, such as "mulato", "pardo", "caboclo", "mestiço", "moreno"... and the Black population took the n word "negro" was adopted to include everyone.

But the word is also a special synonym for "preto" "black" (general color, not as common for skin) that is used when the color is special in some way for the thing that stands out to others that share the rest of the name, such as a black hole, a black pearl, a black widow spider or The Black Knight, while "preto" is usually to more average stuff, like a black pen, a black cat, a black t-shirt...

I recently watched Spider-Man Into the Spiderverse and wanted to make my own Spidersona, a white man with a mostly black costume and my white skin is exposed on the chin and I wanted to know if it would be okay to use the name "Aracnídeo Negro" ("black arachnid" in Portuguese, after a Pokémon character) when posting it in English or would it be better to use another word to share it with English speakers?

Well, to start- "negro" is not the n word lmao. It's old fashioned, it shouldn't be coming out of your mouth for any non-contextual reason, and if you as a nonblack used it unironically I'd wonder how you were raised.

As a deficit, I only speak English, but it's your language lol. If you're saying "Aracnídeo Negro" and it means "black arachnid" in Portuguese, then that's fine. If I'm understanding you properly, you're saying that in this case "Negro" shows more emphasis and importance than "Preto". Just say that your character is Brazilian and that's the translation of the name.

De Cierta Manera is a film created by legendary Black Cuban female filmmaker Sara Gómez. It mixes documentary-style footage with a fictional story centered around the Las Yaguas slums in Havana where the majority of the population is made up of Black people, Mulatos, and poor Whites. It demonstrates how the changing of material conditions, like in developing the neighbourhood, doesn't immediately change the behaviours and attitudes of a given population.

The fictional aspect of the story focuses on Yolanda a white school teacher with communist ideals who has become employed at a school in Las Yaguas, and her Mulato boyfriend Mario who is a resident of Las Yaguas; and whose interest lays more in his gender, ethnic/racial origins, and neighbourhood loyalties rather than in the working class solidarity pushed by the new revolutionary Cuba.

Their relationship is indicative of social struggles in Cuban society. This includes the machismo of Mario with its origins in western European Spanish society, but also the patriarchal attitudes that have been preserved in the Afro-Cuban fraternity, Abakuá, which he is part of. It also includes the racist attitudes still harbored by Yolanda towards Mario and her Afro-Cuban pupils, despite her apparent revolutionary convictions. Portraying the idea that for the Cuban Revolution to persevere, prejudice; whether racist, sexist, or class based must also be tackled.
