i think theres something interesting behind ivan not understanding sua's sacrificial form of love for mizi but understanding the romantic notion behind something like a kiss.

i do find it odd human activities and their meanings were preserved such as middle fingers, religion/worship, and kissing considering those are actions historically spread through group interaction. and for the most part, in alien stage it would ideal to separate and pit them against each other (to keep them from rebelling) but ig not?

more importantly the nuances behind the actions were kept. typically types of uh. kissing (I LOOKED AT THE WIKIPEDIA PAGE FOR IT FMLFMLFML sighs. science. history behind human action is interesting but very disputed on) are separated into romantic, ritualistic, and friendly/peaceful (which is also demonstrated in species like bonobos(?) so theres probably a bit of instinct behind that).

quick tangent from ivan but it also goes back to ivan: in the context of alien stage it's almost exclusively interpreted as romantic (both to the characters and to the audience) but there ARE undertones of the other 2. especially with ritualistic/worship with mizisua (my god my universe + the action of kissing a symbolic item like a statue or a crucifix) and the peace "offering" idontevenknowatthispoint instance with ivantill. which is another massive can of worms of "i want you to see me. and not just to look. all this time we've spent together has had to build up to something. to some understanding."

to an extent till also understands the emotional weight of kissing. every other day ivan has some form of contact with till whether it be punching him or poking his face and. i. blood scene. (the clarity of this post is coming i will be haunted) he probably finds both the blood scene and ivans teasing in the comic gross and ends up ignoring it to neutralize ivan in some way but the difference is he at least HUMORS ivan in the comic. "i'll do it on your birthday/i'll think about it." even if he wouldn't ever actually do it ("does he really think i'll do it?") and ivan himself knows till wouldn't do it ("you know i don't have a birthday") the idea wouldve been completely shut down.

also something something them having emotional proximity to each other to at least joke around. something something till surprisingly is more delicate around *that* topic. whether it be because he fears having an actual conversation with ivan about physically everything surrounding them or something else he never really goes "*you're* gross" or continues to close it off. his reaction between the 2nd and 3rd panel makes it appear like the initial reaction was more just. instinct before weighing other factors in (SORRY MIND DUMP OF IDEAS I COULDNT INCORPORATE PROPERLY) (it also looks like till sat down after the initial reaction SORRY I'LL SHUT UP NOW)

anyways ivan doesn't understand the emotional intricacies of sacrificial love once he sees the effects ON THE OTHER PERSON. but ultimately he demonstrates that himself because it's attached to emotional intimacy which he wants from till and finds it through methods such as the club scene or kissing, which is oddly an action he and till understand the weight of. their understanding is likely due to the way till's wariness forces him to literally and figuratively keep his eyes open meaning that in a moment like round 6 it's unavoidable to look at ivan. as for ivan he understands consensual physical intimacy implies the presence of understanding of the other person which again is something he wants from till.

OOOOOOO exciting! I am incapable of writing fluff, so i added a little bit of feelings and pining (tm):

No castle is grander than the one Bojan takes Jere to. It's more of a fancy residence than a usual European fortress, and it's small--but it's out-of-the-way and quiet, and that's all Jere needs.

He hadn't realised just how exhausted he was until he sat on the plane to Ljubljana, with the weight of the past twelve months pressing down on his chest like some sleep paralysis nightmare. Or maybe it was just the shitty air-pressure in the cabin. He didn't dare let go of the tension even when Bojan went to pick him up at the airport, at least not until they were in Bojan's apartment - cleaned in a haphazard I'm doing this for the guests way - and on the couch.

Jere let out a deep sigh then, and perhaps it was the sign Bojan had been waiting for. He'd been reserved, mostly just glancing at Jere with a small smile, and Jere'd been wondering why through the whole ride.

'What do you wanna do?' Bojan asked quietly.

'Sleep,' Jere mumbled, exhausted. He hadn't come to visit Bojan just to sleep, but his muscles finally let go in a way that he had completely forgotten he was capable of.

So Bojan planned activities that didn't require too much energy. A holiday, a proper holiday, he said. And Jere felt a bit guilty at the start, because he wanted both of them to have fun, and lazing around was definitely not fun.

It was on the third day that they drove to the castle some way from Ljubljana. Jere spent most of the ride taking photos and capturing videos of the landscape to send home. Nothing would be posted online, they had agreed, after Bojan suggested it; Jere hadn't been sure why exactly, but he didn't mind. It was just as much Bojan's holiday as Jere's.

The castle was nestled by the border of a forest, on the foothills of a mountain. Gentle rolling hills. Pretty. In the group chat, Tomi sent him a bunch of jealous emoticons after the photos. I'm a fucking king, bro, Jere told them, attached to a photo of the villa. All he got back was a bowing emoji, and then Bojan was pulling up to the parking lot.

Their room had one king-sized bed. King of the fucking universe, Jere thought to himself. It made him laugh out loud nearly, until Bojan's vastly different reaction cut him off.

'Fuck me,' Bojan groaned upon seeing their room. He must've made the booking beforehand. 'I asked for two beds. I'll just--'

'Is fine,' Jere blocked Bojan's path with his suitcase. 'One bed, one cup of tea.'

It took Bojan a moment to remember, but the way his face lit up and the creases between his eyebrows smoothed out eased Jere's mood too.

There is a rampart of sorts, and a tower to walk up to for the hotel guests. It overlooks the valley, and has a nice view of the surrounding mountains. It's some Lord of the Rings type beauty, Jere has to admit.

On the narrow rampart, their hands brush. It's electrifying. Jere wants to grab Bojan's hand--they are the only ones there, and even if there were others, it wouldn't be their fucking business. It's only Bojan's reservation that keeps Jere's hands at his sides, awfully conscious.

They stand close, shoulder to shoulder, looking at the landscape. Jere likes the mountains, can't tear his eyes off of the peaks. He wants to be there--he wants to be here. Never leave. Buy a castle of his own and live there.

'Tomorrow we go there?' Jere asks, pointing at the mountains. His gaze returns from the hike, and settles, for a moment, on their hands resting next to each other on the rough stone. He looks at Bojan.

Bojan has been staring at him. It's a particular look that Jere has seen a few times before, in Liverpool. It's that look when Bojan goes contemplative--

'Sure, we can,' Bojan smiles, and steps around Jere to proceed up the tower. His palm, however, slips over Jere's knuckles and stay there for as long as it takes Bojan to step away.

That night, they barely sleep a few hours, because neither of them can say good night. Words come spilling into the darkness, because even now, even with Bojan and after all this time of talking about his feelings, the complete darkness gives Jere the absolute courage to reach into the deepest parts of him and show it--because Bojan won't see it, he can't see in this darkness. And Jere's English words are crusty. He wishes Bojan could speak Finnish.

They talk about the future and the past. The sum of the two is them, lying on the same bed, facing each other. Jere wishes he could see Bojan, wishes he could reach out and make sure he's there in the flesh and it's not just an illusion of his deep voice. It's a fucking nightmare. He's not afraid in the dark but a lamp would come in handy. Any other time he would not think twice touching Bojan, but still there is an aura of reservation around his friend, like he's holding back.

'What is wrong?'

Bojan opens his mouth--Jere can hear his lips separate. His tongue is dry, he should drink. The sound is obscene and comforting. A breath.

'Can't sleep.' Jere thinks, don't want to sleep.

Then.

Something presses again his fingers.

Bojan hooks his little finger around Jere's.

'Missed you too.' And Jere can hear him smile.

It is so much easier to do something under the aegis of darkness. It's emboldening, like adrenaline or alcohol without the inevitable crash or hangover. And thus, darkness is most dangerous to act under.

Jere feels it before he hears it:

Bojan moves closer, the mattress dips, skin presses against his. The sheets rustle, and Bojan breathes loudly. His fingers have slipped into Jere's grasp.

A presence hovers above him, but he can only see a vague silhouette. Nothing weighs on him anymore.

Jere angles his chin, and the tip of Bojan's hair brushes his nose.

The night gives both of them courage: for Jere to lift his head, and Bojan to lower his lips.

to #me they started getting close before the gojo deal, with rome kinda seeking lukas out now and then when he needed to get away from Family Drama (tm), and lukas always let him because at least with roman around things are a little less boring. personality wise they keep each other in check really well, roman having a kind of delusional manic optimism towards the world and lukas having a much more nihilistic realistic worldview. they balance each other out yk. i think lukas probably had a thing for rome pretty early on but rome is so oblivious to both lukas' feelings and his own and also is on the aroace spectrum (ace panaroflux) and just. does Not pick up on Anyyything so they suffer the necessary queer situationship for like a year. rome is also probably very flippant and dismissive of lukas trying to connect, because he is just. so scared of attatchment and being genuine. but they'd do mundane shit like watch movies and play video games and go boating on that bigass lake. lukas would try to get rome to open up to him but he never would, not yet at least.

i think romes explosion on the mountain started a kind of a temporary fall out period; lukas realized rome was not like. in a good enough mental place or situation with his family to persue any real relationship so they both kinda back off but but it also makes lukas want the company even more bc he realizes how badly rome needs out of it.

after the gojo deal i think rome takes a lot of time away from the company and his family and everyone he knows in general, maybe for about a year, just kinda traveling the world and learning how to be a person without anyone else's influence, because he needs that. get a dog, eat some steak, yk. not talking to anyone, just off on his own. i think what would eventually draw him back is shiv's baby; it would probably take him a few months to actually see them, but once he did he would realize how badly he missed having people around him, and even though he didn’t regret his journey of self discovery, he knew he was done with it. after spending a few weeks with shiv and baby, he would find himself reaching back out to lukas, and eventually make his way to wherever tf lukas lives in sweden, and kinda just. never leaves.

i imagine roman would move in without ever really making it a thing? he would just show up one day and follow lukas around, and lukas would never really comment on it or ask where he was or why he suddenly wanted to stay. maybe he had a guest house or guest room waiting, hoping that rome would come back eventually. rome never reapplies for waystar or any of lukas' various assets, he is chronically unemployed and just. hangs out. they give each other something to do; hiking and late night campfires and general company through all things. it's like a petty unspoken challenge to see how long they can go without either of them acknowledging that there is anything past Pals going on. like gay chicken except they are actually gay. i see them as endgame in the way that they never really. Acknowledge? anything between them? they just kiss and hold hands and sleep in the same bed every night. but like, in a bro way. totally. don't think too hard about it. over time they come to understand each other better than anyone else and spend like all their time together.

i can totally see roman spontaneously proposing out of the blue one day, in the way he did with both tabitha and gerri, a kind of insecure need to be reassured that he isn't going to be abandoned, as well as having this kind of transactional perspective on relationships and being deserving of love. i feel like they could adopt a kid at some point, and compete to see who could be the better parent. roman would try sooooo hard to be a better dad than logan was and end up being really indulgent, and lukas would have to be the voice of reason. while roman would go for overcorrection to try and make up for his shitty childhood, i feel like lukas would be a lot more timid to be super involved, but would ease into it and do a really good job.

but this isn't what this post is about. this is another one of my rant about myself, my life and society posts that I could only post on Tumblr cause I'm deadly scared people will judge me for how I feel, or just no one will relate to me but here it goes.

so I'm a teen girl (?) right, and I have a loving and caring boyfriend who loves me for all I am, and I have been (dated and kissed and stuff TM) with other people, but I just feel so fucking undesirable. Like. All the time. I'll look at myself in the mirror maybe twice a week and go huh wow I look hot/cute! And all the bathrooms I use have unavoidable mirrors so...

But the thing is, I have kinda always felt like this? Like obviously not always, I was indeed a baby once but I feel like ever since I've realized I am "a woman" (probably around like 6yo), or that I was supposed to be a woman someday, I feel like I've had this need to feel desirable. Maybe it's like trauma from my parents being kinda distant, but I remember so so clearly feeling like I wanted to be pretty to school cause I wanted boys to like me, that I had to use my cutest clothes when we got to not wear uniform (non-USAmerican here amen), that my friends were always cuter than me. And like, I didn't- still don't- want to date many people, or want to have sex with many people or even kiss many people, I'm literally demisexual, but I just have this need for people to want me. Not to have like my love corresponded, or even my attraction corresponded, like one way want towards me.

And like this feels so mean? Like I want people to like me but I won't like them back. Like bro tf???? Why do you want to hurt people like that??? But also it's not about them, like, it's not gonna happen, I have never had many people falling for me and wanting me, so I'm not actually gonna hurt someone, but I kinda feel like a monster for like indirectly wanting to hurt people

Also this really sucks cause my friends are so desirable. Like they have more developed bodies (I look like 3 years younger than I am- and this leads to another topic that I could only debate on Tumblr so I might make a post about it lol), or at least are more extroverted and easy to approach/befriend, or are cuter and like. This is the stupidest shit but I feel like I'm the ugly one- I'm not even ugly, people have liked me, my bf says my body is perfect for him, and still, I don't get people wanting to kiss me at parties, I don't get people asking my friends if I'm single, or if I might open my relationship, I don't get people asking my friends for my number, I don't get people telling their friends that I'm hot (my school is pretty small/connected so we kinda do hear everything one way or another) and all my friends get this and it is absolutely stupid, and I know I'm just being an overly emotional teen but fuck, it hurts

And maybe this is all because I am clearly dating and like the whole school knows at this point, so no one would approach someone so obviously unattainable, but also, maybe, from the depths of my low self esteem, maybe I am just that undesirable that all my friends are so wanted by so many people and I get maybe one person a year maximum who is interested in me

And like I'd like to talk to my boyfriend about this cause yk, he's my best friend, I like talking to him and being comforted and feeling safe and letting go of my insecurities a bit by wording them and sharing them, but I'm scared that he's gonna think it's his fault somehow or that he's not enough when he literally could never be enough for this stupid irrational need because I want many people to be attracted to me and desire me and he's literally just one person like babe, you can't do mitosis sweetheart.

And I think maybe this comes from learning (internalizing but not rationalizing) as a young kid that what gives power to a woman is her influence, and women are given influence most often (not by their fault, obvs) by how attractive they are. Or maybe this is just bs and it's inherent to my messed up brain. Or it has a different societal cause that I haven't stopped to think about or process yet

Okay, I've been in angst for so long I re-watched a much of older Jane Austin moves on Netflix and... you guys... they're all solavellan.

Solas & Predjudice

A slew of miscommunications and “prejudices” cause a kerfuffle for the Bennet family. The main couple, Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy, eventually find love after throwing away their pride, and the prejudices they heard about the other from untrustworthy sources. All of the attraction between the two is conveyed without them touching, halted broken voices, the infamous “hand,” etc.

Austen is thought to have taken her title from a passage in Fanny Burney's Cecilia (1782), a novel she is known to have admired: "The whole of this unfortunate business," said Dr Lyster, "has been the result of PRIDE and PREJUDICE. ... if to PRIDE and PREJUDICE you owe your miseries, so wonderfully is good and evil balanced, that to PRIDE and PREJUDICE you will also owe their termination."

The American novelist Anna Quindlen observed in an introduction to an edition of Austen's novel in 1995: Pride and Prejudice is also about that thing that all great novels consider, the search for self. And it is the first great novel that teaches us this search is as surely undertaken in the drawing room making small talk  (hello, DragonAge Dialogue) as in the pursuit of a great white whale...

Next is Jane Eyre, in which the male Protag, Edward, might be the best comparison to Solas I can imagine.

Jane (well spoken, soft, witty, good, kind) falls in love with a loner but rich landowner (Edward). There is something fishy about him tho, we are led to believe there's something dangerous/off about him, if he is housing a demon/animal, or is in fact a demon himself. They attempt to marry, but the ceremony is stopped. Its discovered "the demon" is his wife, a mentally unstable woman who Edward married to save. He literally calls her “My own demon.” He wants to protect this deranged woman (out of duty? misplaced duty?) but loves Jane deeply. Jane runs away, makes a life for herself, feel guilt, then goes back to him to find his house burned, the woman dead, and Edward blind. They kiss, you assume happy ending.

Edward thought to protect Jane by NOT FUCKING TALKING TO HER Bro like come on what are you even... like you should have fucking told her. Gods damn it Solas Edward just use your outdoor voice and talk to the pretty lady.

They do end up together, but only after Edward has gone through great physical and emotional strife, pretty much of his own doing, I think we can all agree.

And I'd be remis to not talk about Persuasion, because the scene is set so perfectly for Veilguard.

In Persuasion, the book starts up several years after protag Anne breaks off her Engagement with Love Interest (TM) Captain Frederick Wentworth.

Once AGAIN, through NOT FUCKING TALKING TO EACH OTHER, they think the other has moved on, and they try not to intrude on the others life. But (in the movie), Wentworth writes her a beautiful confession letter, which I will put here with some *minor* modifications:

Dearest Inquisitor Levellan, I can listen no longer in silence. Vhenan, you pierce my soul. Dare not say that man forgets sooner than woman, that his love has an earlier death. Solas is so ANCIENT, and GDL voices him SO WELL, with that welsh-tinge, its so hard NOT to put this love story in with the romance classics. Especially with the main theme being JUST TALK TO EACH OTHER YOU FUCKING IDIOTS.

I am just hoping and praying and huffing that copium that we get a happy ending, and not a sad one.

Or even better, through our interactions with Solas' memories, that we get to choose.

tl;dr: imo the French dub is more romantic, not bc of the stereotype of the language itself being romantic but because their lines are actually blatantly more affectionate/emotional, imo the French version makes Chat Noir sound more unabashedly affectionate whereas the English dub slightly tries to keep him sounding like a Cool Guy(TM)/tones down their flirting/also generally makes the script a lot more "childish" to really push that whole “this show is for 7 yr olds” vibe (lmao @ "darken their heart" vs "evilize them" and "I free you from evil!" vs. "tIMe tO dE-EviLIzE")

A Little Extra

Caisson Andrews has always been too smart for his own good. He’s quick to figure other people out, rarely surprised or shocked by anyone or anything and he’s seen every plot twist coming at least five minutes before everyone else. Sounds exhausting, right? Well, more like boring in Caisson’s opinion. That’s why he’s always trying to stay entertained, seeking out something- anything- that’ll thrill him. That might be where his penchant for minor explosions came from but let’s not get into it. Caisson likes to push other people’s buttons, figure out their secrets and decide whether or not to use them for good or evil. As an Andrews, there’s expectations on both him and his brother, Oliver, but Caisson has never had a problem with excelling. With winning. Which is handy because it keeps his parents off his back especially since he decided to become BFF with the family’s sworn enemy: a Baizen. The Baizen-Andrews business and family feud has been another that seems to have gone on for generations. The idea is that every Baizen and every Andrews will eventually contribute to the family businesses and scheme to outshine the other. Things can get a little intense and well, playing dirty is hardly frowned upon. Caisson doesn’t really want to play by his family’s rules but he also knows that the smart move is to not rock the boat too much. For example, he can be all buddy with Lucas Baizen all he wants but when push comes to shove, they will expect him to on the right side. As for anything more than friendship, with any Baizen, that’s just asking for instant trouble with a capital ‘Disowned’. Caisson tries not to dwell though. In fact, his exterior is kept so cool and so calm, you’d never know he was bothered by anything. You’d be wrong of course but just like Gossip Girl always says, that’s one secret he’ll never tell.

What Does Gossip Girl Have On Them?

Oh boy, was Caisson ever a part of the Original Takedown(TM). He was only a little bit interested at first and then Gossip Girl started sending out texts, coaxing and lightly threatening her beloved Upper East Siders to stop the gossip drought. That made it all the more interesting and suddenly Caisson was in. He was the brains, the hacker, electronically setting out to end Gossip Girl’s tyranny (blah blah blah). He even found it- in theory- the laptop. Caisson couldn’t help himself, he started to rake around in it, looking more for secrets than shutting Gossip Girl down. Unfortunately, the laptop self-destructed and GG disappeared after that. C’est la vie. As for what GG has on Caisson, let’s just say his romantic life has been a mess...
