Broke (2016): BBC Sherlock is a phenomenal piece of media and anything that seems like a flaw just hasn't been fully explored yet

Woke (2020): BBC Sherlock is an incredibly flawed series run by an egotistical writer, it never deserved the hype and is actively bad on so many fronts (especially representation)

Bespoke (2024): BBC Sherlock is flawed and bogged down by increasingly poor writing, which many fans refused to see while it was airing, leading to hugely misplaced expectations (particularly for the final series), AND it has the seeds of some compelling characterizations and portrayals, some genuinely solid performances, and touches--albeit imperfectly--on complexities that are still being discussed today (particularly as it relates to the relationship between Sherlock and John). The huge cultural impact of the show has created a massive pendulum effect in its public perception, leading to most people today remembering a caricature of the show (whether positive or negative) rather than appreciating its nuanced merits and failings...that being said Season 4 sucked

Since I posted some of my old fanart yesterday... if you're not familiar with Slayers, and thus have never heard its amazing music, do check it out. It's largely by the same songwriter, Masami Okui, that did Utena's iconic opening (Rinbu Revolution) and ofc (TRUTH) and sung by a duo of her and Hayashibara Megumi (you know, the GOAT)

The entire OST pretty much slaps. there's only a couple of bad image songs in an absolute expanse of pure gold. GIVE A REASON, the opening to the second season, tends to be the reigning favorite. (I've a hard time pinning down my absolute favorite... of the original openings, it might be Breeze, but all three are so good. Of the entire catalog? Impossible to choose. Midnight Blue, Raging Waves, Within my Unlimited Desires, Gloria, Get Along... Impossible Choice)

i wish more people could accept being a hater in their hearts both because bbc merlin is a show that deserves to be dismantled and criticized piece by piece by its fans for the bigoted heap of british garbage that it is but also because it's so ripe with potential and interesting barely explored concepts that can only be truly tapped into once you acknowledge the myriad of flaws rooted in the show's entire premise. just about every single character is really likeable and compelling but also so completely and utterly mishandled by the writers that they all come off like hypocrites by the end which in competent hands could've been interesting to see play out (and there are such hands in the viewers! ive glimpsed them on here but they don't seem to want to stick around much because the loudest majority of this fanbase seems to want a merlin renaissance and yet mistrusts anyone new who has a critical approach to the show) but if people keep getting stuck on someone criticizing their fave character's actions or inconsistencies or how flawed and harmful the character's moral code is (while the show upholds it as if it's inherently right which sure does reflect the uk's political climate - especially in the early 2010s), they're missing out on a lot of the potential i mentioned earlier but also the freeing feeling of being like yes i love this character yes the writers sucked at writing them yes i can name their war crimes in chronological order yes they're still my fav <3 not trying to tell anyone how to enjoy a stupid show from the late aughts but by god do i wish the overall vibe of this fanbase was a bit more self-aware

bsd is a fun story in which every single character has something to tell you about the value of life and living and yet they all kind of suck at it a lot of the time

There’s more things like this with TotK, where like Nintendo tried to make it accessible for new players but ended up making some things not make any sense. Some examples

-Bolson not seeming to know you, the house is built, tarry town exists, he should know who you are.

-the ex Yiga guard in Kakariko also not knowing you, or his daughters. Like you’ve been here plenty of times, Impa knows you, Paya knows you, the other guard knows you, the artifact orb thing is gone, he should know you.

-if I’m remembering correctly, pretty much no one in tarry town knows you, despite the fact that they should, you went to recruit them and literally built the town.

Ironically I have completed none of these quests from botw and therefore am just as ignorant as the NPCs are LOL

HUH good question. first of all i think he'd be a little discombobulated by the very experience of watching a tv show but personally i choose to believe he'd at least be happy he was made into one of the main characters?? and that so many cool and sexy insane people are obsessed with him now <3

having said that. as much as i love show!fitzjames they did nerf him down A LOT. they robbed him of the joyous whimsy that was such a characteristic trait of the real jokester supreme fitzjames (show!fitzjames also has little to no relationship with his irl lieutenant buddies which. sad.)

we also know now that. most probably. he was actually fully english so i can only imagine he'd be Not Pleased about the cairn scene to say it lightly lmao imagine you and your adoptive family making significant efforts throughout your whole life to disguise the fact of your illegitimate birth and then 150 years later some people make a high rating show where they babygirlify you not only spill your secret to the millions of people watching (or secrets, plural, and make you call yourself a fake as a cherry on top lol) but they also get it wrong and make it Even Worse (from a victorian englishman's perspective) like stop guys he's already dead lmfao

having said that. he would have loved the britannia costume and the your nails are a terror line. i know he would.

absolutely it does because i have v1 make a whole plethora of little sounds that largely come from its mechanisms/a rudimentary chip that could produce various beeps to communicate in case of hardware failures. largely it uses these for its own amusement, but it also begins to use them with gabriel in addition to its body language to help express how it feels or what it's thinking. also probably uses them to pretend to be cute, luring gabe right into its trap where it GETS him

Watching Crazy Ex-Girlfriend from the start so I can finally finish the show, and I forgot just how badly Paula enables Rebecca's bad behavior immediately right out the gate in the biggest ways possible.

Also the actress playing Paula is fucking fantastic. Simultaneously a great best friend, an overbearing mother, an unfulfilled woman looking for better things, and an evil mastermind with an incredible voice! I'm excited to see where her character goes in the 4th season!

Simplicity Template v1.0.0

Hi. It’s me again, emerging from the depths of ukagaka hell to bring you new and strange things.

So here’s the thing about ghosts, I helped make this one called Needle for ghost jam 2022, and it’s kinda sorta maybe the best thing I’ve ever participated in. And it maybe kinda triggered a big shift in how I think about ghosts. And I think maybe, the process doesn’t need to be nearly as complicated as it is. 

Right now, the existing ghost templates are very, very big. Everything everywhere will tell you that making a ghost is a long project that requires a lot of dedication. And that can be true! There are some wonderful and detailed ghosts out there that take a long time to produce. But as we’ve seen in ghost jams, that’s not necessarily true! Ghosts don’t HAVE to be big! Ghosts don’t HAVE to be complicated! And even ghosts with a lot of content don’t have to be a huge project that eats up months of your life! Just about everything in the existing templates is optional, but I always feel like I’m cheating or doing a bad job if I skip things.

The more I think about it, and with a lot of the work I’ve done lately, I think it is easy to get burned out by the amount of tedious work you have to do filling in side functions that many users won’t ever see. New devs may find those functions uninteresting, or confusing, or just simply overwhelming from the sheer amount of them. And I think a lot of folks may not realize they can be omitted entirely without causing any harm to the ghost! SSP has default dialogues for the stuff that there need to be dialogues for!

Additionally, I’ve started to see more possibilities for ghosts lately, and the existing templates are making me feel very boxed in. Many ghosts right now have the same premise of “X character but on your computer”, and I don’t have anything against that, but there’s lots of other interesting ideas out there that we haven’t explored hardly at all! What if it’s not that a character has appeared on your desktop, what if you’ve appeared in their world! What if you’re not actually human? What if they know you already! There are so many things I would love to see happen, and some ideas that I’m hoping to start exploring myself.

Anyways! That was a whole lot of words for me to introduce my new template. I’ve made a new template called the Simplicity Template, and these are the things I hope it accomplishes:

Makes ghost making less intimidating for new developers by having less to fill in

Helps more ghosts reach completion by getting straight to content first, with very few side features to fill in

Gives developers more freedom to experiment and try new ideas, and to break away from the current formula

If any of that sounds interesting to you, give it a try! You can always add in more features later and build upon the simple base that is here!
