Canada's record-setting wildfire season is spurring the federal government to consider how to tackle future fires, floods and earthquakes.
Minister for Emergency Preparedness Harjit Sajjan said Thursday that could mean a more national approach to disaster response. The government has announced $65 million in federal funding for wildfire response in six provinces and territories.
"We're looking at all different types of disasters, doing the lessons-learned, and we'll come out with the appropriate response," Sajjan said at a news conference that included several other federal cabinet ministers and MPs.
"I would say all options are currently on the table but we don't have an answer for you yet," said the minister, responding to a question about Canada forming a national force to battle wildfires.
Dy"We're looking at wildfires, yes, but we also need to look at floods. We also need to be ready for potential earthquakes." [...]

Jonny Greenwood’s Pedalboards for The Smile’s Nov-Dec 2022 Tour

Another photo of Jonny during soundcheck in Providence, this one from The Smile’s official instagram.
Jonny’s Guitar Pedalboard
Like Thom’s pedalboards, Jonny’s guitar board seems to be made from black-painted plywood. On the May-July tour, Jonny was still using one of his flightcase pedalboards that was originally made for Radiohead touring. But it seems he needed a larger board for this tour. As has been the case since the early days of the band, the wooden pedalboards are most likely hand-built by the band’s guitar techs.
Jonny’s pedals are mostly identical to the ones he was using by the end of the last tour in July 2022 (you can read about his board at the start of that tour in this post). The big difference is that Jonny switched out his Boss RE-20 Space Echo pedal for the new Boss RE-202 Space Echo pedal! That means this will be the first time Jonny has toured without a RE-20 pedal since 2008 (he’s used one constantly with Radiohead, and even brought two on the  2016 Junun tour). If you’re curious about some minutia of these pedals, check out our recent post about Space Echo preamps and bypass.
Jonny started using the Tortenmann/Telenorida TK-23 Kompressor around the start of the summer tour. The tape on the pedal shows that it’s the same one time removed from his board at the same time, showing Jonny’s fondness for gear left behind by his bandmates.
If you’ve checked this page before, you know Jonny is a big fan of Boss and Electro-Harmonix pedals. But before playing with The Smile last year, Jonny had never performed with any pedals from Earthquaker Devices. I suspect Jonny was inspired to use those pedals by Stephen Malkmus, as discussed in this post.
It looks like there’s a Radial J48 Active DI Box near the expression pedals. Jonny always has a direct box to send his pre-amplifier guitar signal to the PA, so most likely this is used in the same way.

Jonny’s Bass Guitar Pedalboard
On The Smile’s May-July tour, Jonny’s only bass pedal was his Boss TU-3, so he kept it on his guitar pedalboard. For this tour, it seems he wanted more flexibility for bass. He now has a small pedalboard in front of his Ampeg SVT Classic bass amp and cabinet.

Jonny’s MIDI Pedals
Since The Smile’s first performance at Glastonbury in 2021 (full gear list here), Jonny has used a Studiologic MP-117 to play synth lines with his feet. The Studiologic is connected to a couple of synth modules. For synth bass, he uses am Oberheim SEM Pro module (Jonny actually has two SEM Pro modules on this tour, with on serving as a backup). On the May-July tour, he also had a Moog Mother-32 on a shelf in his rack case, but the Moog was removed or moved elsewhere on this tour.
Jonny has one Blackstar Live Logic foot controller resting by his laptop interface rack. That foot controller is used to record and trigger loops of Thom’s voice with a Max/MSP patch. Jonny uses the patch during A Hairdryer.
Jonny has a second Blackstar foot controller velcro’d to his Studiologic controller. This one could be used to control the Max/MSP looper, it could be used to choose which synth the Studiologic controls, or it could be used for both depending on the mode Jonny selects.

The King stressed the important role of Parliament in reaching out to the public and communicating transparently with citizens, commending MPs for engaging with Arab and foreign parliaments to support Jordan’s diplomatic efforts.
His Majesty reaffirmed Jordan’s steadfast position on the Palestinian cause, highlighting the Kingdom’s recent diplomatic efforts to contain escalation in the Palestinian Territories and support the Palestinian Authority, while continuing efforts to safeguard Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem under the Hashemite Custodianship.
The King also touched on Jordan’s role in building economic integration among Arab countries and coordinating positions in service of national and Arab interests, reiterating the need to include the Palestinians in regional economic projects.
His Majesty noted the need to maintain humanitarian and relief support for the Syrian people to mitigate the impact of the recent earthquake, pointing also to the ongoing medical and humanitarian support dispatched to Turkey.
Speaking at the meeting, Senate President Faisal Fayez said combating poverty and unemployment is a priority for all institutions, stressing the need to follow His Majesty’s example in reaching out to the public in the field.
He added that the Senate will also reach out to governorate and municipal councils to enhance coordination and support decentralisation.
The Senate president expressed appreciation for His Majesty’s efforts in bolstering Jordan’s Arab and international standing while safeguarding national interests, stressing the centrality of the Palestinian cause for the Kingdom and the need to counter unilateral Israeli measures.
For his part, House Speaker Ahmad Safadi expressed the chamber’s keenness to increase public outreach to listen to citizens’ concerns and highlight the House’s role, while also engaging with governorate and municipal councils and civil society organisations.
He touched on the House of Representatives’ efforts to amend its internal rules and procedures, as well as its code of conduct, in line with political modernisation requirements and to bolster public trust in the chamber, noting that these amendments will be discussed soon.
Speaker Safadi also underscored the House’s diplomatic efforts through exchanging visits with Arab and foreign parliaments to support Jordan’s diplomatic role and outreach.
Also speaking at the meeting, members of the two houses’ permanent offices highlighted a number of domestic and regional issues, commending His Majesty’s diplomatic efforts and noting the importance of the Hashemite Custodianship over holy sites in Jerusalem.
They said cooperation with the government is underway as set out by the Constitution, expressing support for the modernisation tracks and their keenness to follow up on implementation.
The lawmakers pointed to the importance of administrative reforms and building the capacities of employees in senior political and administrative positions, urging the modernisation of education by developing curricula and teaching methods, as well as promoting vocational education.
The MPs also called for investment promotion in line with the new investment law, stressing the importance of countering false news and cyber bullying through social media, in accordance with the law.

RNZ Pacific 1311 22 Nov 2023

Politically the mood eased slightly today in Vanuatu after the President Nikenike Vurobaravu had ordered MPs to sort themselves out or he would dissolve the parliament. At a short, extraordinary session MPs voted to remove a suspension on Malekula MP, Gracia Shadrack, and this cleared the main grievance for the opposition members. Meanwhile, earlier today near Vanuatu there was a substantial earthquake, registering 7 on the Richter scale. It was a shallow tremor but no tsunami was expected and when RNZ Pacific contacted the disaster office in Port Vila, staff there said they had not felt it. New Zealand pilot Phillip Mehrtens is alive and healthy, a spokesperson for the West Papua National Liberation Army (TPNPB) says. Mehrtens, who was a pilot for Susi Air, was taken hostage by TPNPB fighters in February this year, shortly after landing at a remote airstrip. A new video circulating on social media shows Mehrtens surrounded by armed men. The video said Mehrtens had been given two months to live before he will be shot dead. Efforts were ongoing to secure Mehrtens' safe release, it said, including working closely with Indonesian authorities and deploying New Zealand consular staff to do so. Wapenamanda and Wabag districts in Enga province in Papua New Guinea have been declared fighting zones amid continuing tribal fighting. The Post Courier reports the Provincial Peace and Good Order Committee has imposed a one-month lockdown to contain tribal conflicts and the law and order situation in both districts. The lockdown means curfew and travel restrictions are being applied within Wabag town and within the declared fighting zones of both districts. A group of women are breaking down gender divivions in Fijian homes, one week at a time. The Fijian Women's Crisis Centre (FWCC) visits rural communities to teach women about their rights, Fijian law and domestic violence. FWCC coordinator and activist Shamima Ali told RNZ Pacific it is a tough but important job. Climate advocates are vowing to hold the incoming New Zealand government accountable in order to protect the Pacific Ocean and its marine life. New Zealand has been in support of a new global target to protect 30-percent of our ocean by 2030. Alternate persona:
Poseidon ( mostly for Persona 2 and Persona 3 since they use Greek and Roman gods and myths ).
[ Akira obtains an alternate weapon, that being a Trident ( with his zodiac, the Pieces symbol marked in the center of the weapon ). Make him able to reach better and stab instead of death by a thousand cuts like his knife can. He holds the Trident somewhat like Kotone / Minako but is able to make his stance more lazier than the other's own. Sometimes only uses one hand to attack since his proficiency is maxed ]
Info and Background:
Poseidon is the god of the sea, oceans, storms and earthquakes and also one of the twelve Olympian deities of the pantheon in Greek mythology. His main domain is the ocean, and is called the "God of the Sea." Additionally, he is referred to as "Earth-Shaker" and "Storm-Bringer" due to his role in causing earthquakes and storms, and has been called the "Father of horses" as he created them from sea foam.
He is usually depicted as an older male with curly hair and beard. Poseidon is married to the sea goddess Amphitrite and together they had a son named Triton. He also had a child with Aphrodite, a daughter named Rhodos. Other notable children of him were the hero Theseus, the hunter Orion and the cyclops Polyphemus.
He is integrated into the Olympian gods as the brother of Zeus and Hades. Like his brother, Zeus, Poseidon has fathered numerous children and is quick to punish those who have "wronged" him. Poseidon is a horrifying and avenging god and must be honored even when he is not the patron deity of the city. He is described as a majestic scary and avenging monarch of the sea. As god of the sea Poseidon is also god of fishing and especially of sea-fishing.
In his benign aspect, Poseidon is seen as creating new islands and offering calm seas. When offended or ignored, he supposedly strikes the ground with his trident and caused chaotic springs, earthquakes, drownings and shipwrecks.
According to the myth, Helios and Poseidon clashed, both desiring to make a city their own. Their dispute was brought to one of the Hecatoncheires, Briareos, an elder god, who was thus tasked to settle the fight between the two gods. Briareus decided to award the Acrocorinth to Helios, while to Poseidon he gave the isthmus of Corinth. In this tale, Helios and Poseidon are supposed to represent fire versus water. Helios, as the sun god, received the area that is closest to the sky, while Poseidon, who is the sea god, got the isthmus by the sea.
Poseidon had both male and female lovers. The mighty monarch of the seven seas and the absolute ruler of all sea demons.

As NDA completes nine years, new Parliament building likely to be inaugurated in May end
The new Parliament building complex is 64,500 square metre and is a part of the Central Vista project worth ₹20,000 crore.
Tumblr media
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to inaugurate the new Parliament building, which is at the heart of Lutyens in Delhi, soon. It has been constructed as part of the Central Vista Redevelopment Project. The new Parliament building will be inaugurated end of the month, which is around the time the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will complete nine years in power, people familiar with the matter said.
Over a month ago, Prime Minister Modi went on a surprise visit to the building. With Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla, Modi spent over an hour at the upcoming complex and inspected various works. The prime minister observed the faculties coming up at both Houses of Parliament and interacted with the construction workers and the officials, sources added.
The PM laid the foundation stone of the new Parliament building in 2020. In September 2021, he visited the site of the new complex and interacted with the workers present there.
As he laid the foundation stone, Modi said, “The need was felt for a new Parliament building for years. 21st century India needs a new Parliament complex. The old building fulfilled the needs of the country, the new Parliament building will fulfil the country’s aspirations.”
The new Parliament building complex is 64,500 square metre and is a part of the Central Vista project worth ₹20,000 crore. The cost of the Parliament building project has been estimated at ₹971 crore. The building will be earthquake resistant and would involve 2,000 workers directly and 9,000 indirectly. The new parliament building will be having a capacity to house around 1,200 MPs.

'I’m just really heartbroken': Maritimers struggle with the loss of family in Turkiye
With the official search for survivors all but over in Turkiye and Syria, Halifax restaurant owners Nihal and Muzaffer Deveci are reeling from the loss of their loved ones.
They made many calls to family in Turkiye in the aftermath of the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that hit the region on Feb. 6, and the aftershocks that followed.
It was through social media that Nihal learned members of her family were missing.
“Too many family members are lost to this earthquake; my sister-in-law, my sister and niece,” said Nihal.
Nihal asked a friend in Turkiye for help in searching for her family. A day later her friend told her that her sister-in-law and niece had died.
“My sister-in-law and niece stayed under the rubble for four days because no one could help them and they were waiting for help.”
This followed the news that Nihal’s own sister and her daughter were also victims.
“I’m feeling very emotional. I also lost my sister and niece she is still in the hospital,” said Nihal.
She says search teams found them and her niece is in critical condition.
“[My sister and her daughter] were waiting for help. After seven hours they took my niece, nephew and my sister to the hospital but the doctor said my sister’s condition was very serious and the doctor said, ‘it’s too late we can’t do anything.’”
Nihal says it's been difficult to deal with the grief.
“I am feeling so sad because we [couldn’t] support them. I’m just really heartbroken.”
While Muzaffer’s family survived, he said he lost many relatives and friends in the earthquake.
“Some relatives I did not hear from and many of my friends are living on the streets in the cold,” said Muzaffer.
According to the Turkish Society of Nova Scotia, as of now, the 10 cities devastated by the earthquake do not have access to the internet or power.
“There are about 16 million people that are homeless right now,” said Bursu Kaptan, president of the society.
With the amount of loss that the Devecis have experienced since the earthquake, they plan to bring their family members to Canada.
“We want the government of Canada to help us bring our families here and we will support them here,” said Muzaffer.
The Devecis are not alone. Many Turkish families in Canada want to bring their relatives to the country. The Turkish society has started an online campaign to reunite loved ones in Canada. So far, MP Lena Diab has voiced her support.
Family friends of Devecis have started a fundraiser to support their family, with proceeds going directly to Turkiye.

iPhone 14 Pro Max Reviews & Specification
Tumblr media
The iPhone 14 Pro Max is a top-of-the-line phone with features that’ll make you wonder why you have ever used any other phone.
It has amazing performance, looks great, and can do almost anything you want it to do. But how much better is it than the regular iPhone 14?
That’s what we’re here to find out. Let’s have a look at iPhone 14 pro max specifications.
iPhone 14 pro max release date was on September 16, 2022.
The iPhone 14 has a triple-lens camera with a couple of nifty improvements.
Tumblr media
Let’s start the iPhone 14 pro max reviews by looking at the camera.
The iPhone 14 pro max specifications. The iPhone 14 has a triple-lens camera with a couple of nifty improvements.
For starters, it’s the first time Apple has used three lenses on an iPhone. The primary wide-angle camera, an ultrawide, and a telephoto camera with a 3x optical zoom.
The lens on the primary camera has a wider focal length, increasing from a 26mm equivalent on previous iPhone models to a 24mm one and it’s not a massive disparity, but it helps get more of the scene into the frame.
The main camera also has a new larger 48- megapixel sensor. Although having more megapixels doesn’t necessarily create better photos, Apple divides its pixels into groups of four and combines them to form one larger pixel. The result? A clearer, more robust picture.
The ultrawide camera now has a new sensor and lens with fewer focus pixels and an aperture that is one-stop slower at f2.2, with 12 MP.
Ability to charge other devices.
Tumblr media
This is another important aspect of iPhone 14 pro max reviews.
If you’re still rocking the iPhone 8 or 9, for example, you’ll love the fact that the iPhone 14 can be used to charge other gadgets.
I know what you’re thinking: “But I have a power bank.”
Not only does it mean that if your phone runs out of juice when you’re off in some corner of town with no outlet in sight (or even worse — no wireless charging), then there’s no way for anyone else with an iPhone 14 Pro Max to help out. But also, and this is key, being able to use its built-in charging capabilities is a huge boon if your night goes south and gets interrupted by an emergency evacuation from wherever it was that everyone thought was safe from fires or floods, or earthquakes last night. It turns out they weren’t so safe after all!
Powerful processor
Tumblr media
iPhone 14 pro max reviews processor.
As usual, Apple’s A14 processor is better than anything else out there, and it’s so powerful.
The A14 processor can do things that other smartphones just can’t do. The device runs on iOS 16, with a chipset of Apple 16 Bionic (4 nm) with a Hexa-core (2×3.46 GHz Avalanche + 4x Blizzard) CPU and Apple GPU (5-core graphics) GPU.
The iPhone 14 Pro Max has big batteries that give it tons of power.
Tumblr media
iPhone 14 pro max reviews battery life and fast charge option.
The battery on the regular 14 Pro easily powered through a day’s worth of use. You can typically get about 6 hours of screen time before charging up again. With the Max variant, though, you can be able to consistently get more than a full 24 hours on one charge, even with heavy usage!
The battery is also a fast charge one. For example, in 30 minutes, the power can bump from 14% to 59%.
How does iPhone 14 pro compare to older versions?
Tumblr media
iPhone 14 pro max reviews comparison to older models.
I don’t recommend upgrading if you own an iPhone 13 Pro from last year. The new features and improvements aren’t that big of a change compared to iOS 16. Just update the software on your old phone instead!
But if you have an iPhone 12 and are considering upgrading, the 14 Pro is a big step up in terms of performance, battery life, camera quality, and added features like Dynamic Island.
