“I could spend the rest of the night correcting that nonsense” he declared, “but that would ruin the arrangements. So here’s what will happen."

He throws him a small beautifully made object, the front was transparent and hard, like ice, and behind it were all these rune numbers set in different circles, and at least seven arrows, all moving at their own pace.

"You’re going to meet three people. One will show you the past, one will show you the present, and one will show you the future. The Ticking Thing will help you track the time...among other things. After that, then you can make your decision. I hope for the dragons sake you make the right one.”

This is all based from @10blue10's fanfic, Coming Home, which is such a creative fanfic fix-it! Go read it if you are just as frustrated with the third movie like I was!

They allowed me to make art based off this, so I want to add more of the book characters and I've got a couple ideas of who I want the Snoggletog's Ghosts of Past, Present, and Future to be :^) (hint: its very obvious)

I might also make another version where Toothless is getting the same treatment....

Hicups at the beginning vs end

Honestly, I don’t think it will.

That’s a thought that’s lived in hiccups life his whole life. He’s always felt like he wasn’t suited to be a Viking or the son of stoik the vast or at least he though that’s how the other Vikings and his dad felt.

At the beginning of the movie he even jokes that his dad thinks he got the wrong kid: “excuse me, barmaid, I think you ordered me the wrong offspring. I ordered an extra large boy with beefy arms, extra guts and glory on the side. This here, this is a talking fishbone” or something to that affect.

This line hurts for hiccup, for sure, but it’s nothing new. It’s nothing he hadn’t already thought or believed or thought his father thought. If anything, it’s just confirmation.

Instead, the line: “I’m proud to call you my son” that stoik says not to long after? I think that for sure lives rent free in hiccups head for the rest of his life, pushing him forward as he does all the amazing things he does with dragons, as he looses his father and continues forward, as he becomes chief. This is the antithesis to how he’s viewed his relationship with his father, with his people and with himself.

I think this line probably sticks with him much more over the other one because he’s fought through rejection and being an outcast all his life but now his father is finally tell him he does accept him and he does support all that he’s doing. And that’s a pretty nice sentiment to hang out to.

Or maybe I’m a sap! Who knows. Either way they’re both banger lines from a banger movie

Rewatched the Test Drive scene and thought about how Toothless probably must've resigned himself to the possibility that he'll never fly like he used to, especially when there's a human boy on his back who needs a cheat sheet in order to slowly work his tailfin. He'll never be fast again, he'll always have to wait on Hiccup to figure out which is the right tail position, he has to be careful.

And then they fly through that maze of sea stacks and find out that flying is as natural to Hiccup as breathing, apparently.

Honestly, the main problem I have with the live action HTTYD trailer has nothing to do with turning an already perfect animated film into a live-action remake. (I did a speech on this topic. I could go on for DAYS.) It has nothing to do with any possible differences that will be made (or a lack thereof).

It has to do with THIS.

THIS SHOT RIGHT HERE.

TOOTHLESS’ PUPIL. IS NOT A SLIT. IT IS WIDE FUCKING OPEN.

Throughout the ENTIRE animated universe of HTTYD — every SINGLE movie and TV show — a dragon’s emotion is conveyed through the size of their pupil. A slit signifies typically negative emotions, like anger and discomfort. A wide-open pupil indicates emotions like love and comfort. In the animated movie, Toothless’ pupil cannot be interpreted as anything other than a slit in this scene.

In fact, the creators of the animated film have talked about this decision. It was very intentional. To remove this detail pisses me off, actually. It’s a very clever way to convey emotion in in-human characters in a very effective way. Toothless is probably more scared than he has ever been in his entire life. Of course his pupil is going to be thin as fuck. I just don’t understand why this incredibly emotional detail has been taken out of this incredibly emotional moment between Hiccup and Toothless.

canon tidbits i think people who've only seen the httyd movies should know that are confirmed in the shows:

tuffnut and snotlout are canonically talented seamsters

we see the prototype versions of hiccup's flaming sword and the flightsuit in race to the edge

hiccstrid's first kiss is in rtte and its perfect

VIGGO GRIMBORN aka the best httyd villain and the "hiccup's evil mirror" concept actually done right

there are multiple societies dedicated to protecting dragons other than berk

snotlout's assholish disposition is a consequence of his deeply held insecurities that if he can't be the best he's the worst, which is encouraged by his father

the other riders (namely snoutlout) have used the ship name hiccstrid to refer to hiccup and astrid

hiccup redeems so many villains in the shows (alvin, dagur, viggo - one of them later performing a heroic sacrifice to save him) that it's completely unsurprising he thought he could change drago's mind

hiccup punched snotlout in the face and knocked him out cold

the shows let the twins be smarter, snotlout be more thoughtful, and astrid more deranged

snotlout's middle name is gary

Do you know @wickedcriminal Au where book and movie Hccup are brothers? It is brilliant and precious. And the art work is brilliant and it got me thinking.

I want a fanfiction where book and rtte Hiccup meet in race to the age, like a dimension-hopping thing or something and rtte Hiccup adopts book hiccup. Is that a thing? I just want it. Like cute as fluff. Also this has to do with my need to see Hiccup being a parent. We saw little of it in homecoming. But the idea of Hiccup being his own parent? Precious, fabulous I might even say. Also imagine Stoicks reaction to see little hiccup.
