thinking about Tarzan!bradley trying to teach Boots how to climb trees and she’s afraid so he just grabs her and starts climbing really high quickly. She’s trying to smile through it but she’s lowkey freaking tf out cause she’s scared of heights. But when they get to the top, you can see the whole jungle and it’s all cutesy and romantic

Yes!! Bradley would be looking at Boots with the look of "I literally don't understand what the big deal is" as she stares up at the tree with nerves growing in her belly.

You shifted from foot to foot as you eyed the tree in front of you, desperately trying to come up with any reason as to why you couldn't climb it. Bradley watched you silently, a frown pulling on his lips as he took in your nervous form.

"I'm not as skilled a climber," you said lamely, gesturing to the tree, giving Bradley a sheepish look. He rolled his eyes at you, a habit he picked up from Jake recently, before picking you up and wrapping your legs around his waist.

"Bradley!" You shrieked, your hands wrapping around his neck as he strutted over to the thick trunk. He grabbed onto the vines that encircled the tree, hauling the two of you up towards the canopy with ease. Your fingers tightened onto the meat of his shoulders, burying your face in his neck as he continued his assent. You tried not to think too hard about the way his muscles rippled against you or how he moved with ease despite your combined weights. Though, you supposed it was better than focusing on how the jungle floor grew farther and farther away the higher he climbed.

After a few minutes, he stopped, and you felt one of his hands come up to run through your hair as the other smoothed over your back. Slowly, you pulled away from him, eyes blinking against the bright sun. You glanced up to see him already looking down at you, a fond smile on his lips as he jutted his chin out for you to take a look.

Turning, your breath caught in your throat at the sight before you. The mountains stretched far and wide, covered in luscious green. In front of you, a giant waterfall fell between the moutaintops, the roar being heard even over the cacophony of the jungle around you.

"Oh, Bradley," you murmured, eyes growing wide. "This is so beautiful."

He hummed, the vibrations reverberating through you, and you turned back to see that he was still looking at you, his honey colored eyes studying you as if to commit you to memory. He leaned forward, brushing his lips against yours in a gentle kiss, which you happily returned.

You made sure to thank him properly once you were safely back at camp, and Bradley made a mental note to take you up to the canopy more often.

Physical description

Rockwings are large dragons with very resistant scales. They live in moutaintops, cliffs and valleys. They are mostly troglodyte, but do build large structures, such as palaces, out of stone. Those structures are often found in faults.

They are entirely adapted to the cold, the low oxygen and the rocky vertical spaces. They have two pairs of powerfulwings, all independent from the others, which allow them to fly through strong winds and storms.

Rockwings can breathe fire, and their tail tip is very heavy and can be deadly. Their claws, especially the ones on their wings, are long and curved at the end, giving them the ability to hang onto the smallest cornices.

Rockwings have spikes along their spine. Somewhere along the back, that row divides into two rows of spikes that go down their large tail. At the end of their tail, they have what is called a tail boulder: a large, heavy ball covered in spikes, covered by the hardest scales of their entire body. A well thrown hit from a rockwing's tail tip can kill.

Their scales are grey, white, black or brown. They most often have losange, snake like patterns, but other shapes are common such as spots, blotches, stripes... Their eyes can be any color.

Physical aptitudes

Rockwings are very good at flying. They can fly for hours in strong winds. Their large tail, which weighs more than half of the rest of the body, can deal a lot of damage and break bones. Thanks to the long claws on their wings, they are capable of holding onto crevices in rock walls and hang there effortlessly. They often nap there on sunny days.

It is also a hunting technique: rockwings stay still on a wall, and when a prey shows around, they jump to catch it. They prey on predatory birds and goats. Lower, in valley forrests, they hunt foxes, wolves, and badgers.

Society

Government

Rockwings are under a monarchy. The tribe is led by the Queen, who has absolute power over everything.

To access the throne, heirs must defeat the current queen in a traditional fight. The opponents fight respecting a set of rules, and win by making 10 points first. The royal referee is always present. Often, a tournament is organized for several heirs to fight for the throne on the same day. Heirs first eliminate each other, the queen is the final oponent.

Currency

Rockwing's currency are precious stones and gems. The unit is a very specific quantity of gold called a Gold Coin. The second unit is the diamond, it is worth 1,000 gold coins.

Jewelry

Rockwings love jewelry. Rich rockwings decorate their entire house with precious stones, above arcades between different rooms or around mirrors for exemple. Rockwings like to wear gems, on necklaces or bracelets, but also have them embedded on their scales (this is a very expensive procedure). The palace is decorated with statues made out of gems, glass and stone.

Towns

Cities are built in walls, most often in trenches. Rockwings dig houses dirrectly into the rock. Bridges often link the to sides of a city that is in a trench. Typically, habitations are found the lowest in the trench, while shops and otherwise public spaces are found near the top. The nurseries are always at the very bottom, and very well guarded. The ground at the bottom of a trench is often a place of gathering for rockwings, who like to organize parties there. Dark places are lighted by torches. In front of them, there is often a glass and gem shield, that casts colors all around the place.

Each full moon, a huge gathering called the Moonlight Feast takes place. Temporary shops open with exclusive items, a feast is organized and exhibition stands open. Unions always take place during a Moonlight Feast. The next day is always a rest day, except for military forces.

I do have one question, though, the answer to which could mean the difference between trying to choke back tears all day and feeling somewhat normal. I'll put the spoilers under the cut.

In the very last scene, after Wei Wuxian and Lan Zhan have gone their separate ways on the moutaintop, Wei Wuxian is playing their song on his flute. Suddenly, he looks up with that "Oh my god Lan Zhan is looking at me" expression and you hear Lan Zhan's voice say, "Wei Ying," and that's the end. Has Lan Zhan returned? Or is Wei Wuxian remembering the past, or does their love so transcend the corporeal realm that they can speak to and appear to each other on a higher plane of existence?

I have to read the book now.

Very quick photoshop job make it obvious that the eastern river on the dragon map match the shap of the easterne Liurnia shore, up to the waterfall at the secret passage to Altus and the soft gap between Caria manor hill and the Volcano. By taking it at face value we can correlate a few more things between the two maps. 1. The Volcano is exactly centered on the emplacement of the dragon mouth, which seems thematically fitting. This brings interesting implication to the fact that that entire Volcano area seems to be Risen above sea level in a way that doesn't make sens for a Volcano system. (Look at the cliff from Caria manor it will be obvious it's not natural).

2. The rest frankly doesn't match very well, due to two things : Firstly, like old medieval maps, it's entirely possible that the scale and accuracy of the first map is a bit rough or messed up. Personnaly if I could make the map of my land ressemble the glorious shape of my divine dragonlord I would tweak the reality a bit for the aesthetic. Secondly, The Lands between obviously got majorly fucked up at some point. With the gigantic and frequent starfall, the many parts of the landscape that looks crumbled or landslided, the Gravity magic, the crumbling flying city, landscape is bound to change quite a bit overtime. On top of that, we know that entire cities have been buried whole and if I remember correctly the Elden Ring is described somewhere as the Anchor of all lands. It is quite likely that the Shattering of the Elden Ring also meant the Shattering of the Lands Between : we know this is true both politically and Spiritually, it could be geological too. 3. If we take the point above into acount, and try to imagine the dragonmap "unfurled" to match more closely the current world map, we can guess a few more things.

The crater in the middle of the Land between is absolutely not natural, which explain the difference in eight between the center sea and actual sea level we can see from the beast sanctum.

The secondary big siverly river on the dragon map seems to cross somewhere under Leyndell, around Godwyn's corpse and the forgotten city (we know the river here as a distinct white/milkish color). Maybe significant.

From the North of the moutaintop to where Farum Azula is currently flotting would match the Western "Wing" on the dragon map in length, but in a more outward and raised up posture. Maybe this is the "wall of living stone" the legends talk about?

The feet area of the dragon could loosely match the Limgrave and Crying peninsula, but the land there is so fucked up and destroyed that it's hard to say because it changed so much.

The western quicksilver river on dragon's map as a distinct circular source on the bottom right, which is interesting because this kind of natural formation usually happen from meteor strike. It's obviously significant, but it doesn't match anything in the current map. It would be around beast sanctum or Moghwyn dinasty palace. Maybe it was the original center of Farum Azula ?

This is the most out there part of this analysis, but the way the dragon is fucked up is similar to the way Marika is fucked up : half crumbled left arm/wing, entire left half of the torso obliterated, probably due to a meteor strike/the orange shard impaling Marika (the angle kinda match too), and legs crumbling off. I don't know what to take off it but it seems significant.

Rot lake in Caelid is dragon butt This is all the juice I could get out of this but it's quite a lot of juice for a drawing on a talisman. Make of it what you will.

The World Before #3: From Crumbling Lands

A short entry - from where came Farum Azula? Additionally, some points on Marika's origins. future entries -> #worldbefore

3.1 The Wandering City

As it currently exists, Farum Azula is beyond the Land’s Between - both in space and time. But was it ever a part of the world?

Its commonly thought that Farum Azula is flying thanks to the residual gravity magic of the meteor that struck it. This is a fair statement, as Farum Azula being essentially in-situ makes the Lands Between into nice solid ring shape. However, fallen Azula ruins can be found across the southern regions - strewn from Liurnia to Caelid. The implication being that the city traveled to its current location west-to-east and was already airborne and crumbling when it entered The Land's Between.

As much as I like the idea that Farum Azula flew in from elsewhere, there is one very major issue: the Elden Ring definitively fell in the Lands Between (see. Elden Stars) and the Farum civilization was cleared based around it (see. Part 1). One solution, is to simply acknowledge Farum Azula is incredibly ancient - perhaps the Lands Between did not yet exist as a continent in that ancient age? After all, there is extensive buried architecture almost everywhere you look.

Stone dragons can be seen embedded in the city’s bedrock. Placidusax is also not classified as an Ancient Dragon (likewise, the Placidusax’ Ruin spell belongs to no school). Sure, it could be an oversight - but it could also suggest an even older generation of ‘Primeval Dragons’ of which Placidusax is the last.

3.2 From Another World

All that handwringing over the city’s origin was really just to ask – are the Numen from Farum Azula? The Numen are clearly stated to be from elsewhere, but how far afield is hard to say. In favor of this idea are a few points.

Numern are ‘long-lived, seldom born’, which seems fitting for the people of time bending city. Caveat to this is the ‘Draconian’ character preset, but it’s never seen in-game, so eh?

Marika’s half-brother was a Beastman cleric

Marika’s Hammer is made of stone (see. Bestial Sling)

Marika was found to be an empyrean, implying the society she came from was familiar with the process of ascending with the Elden Ring.

It’s also possible the Numen arrived from elsewhere but became integrated in the Farum civilization at an early date. This conveniently preserves the Numen’s ‘migration from another world’ narrative while keeping Farum Azula’s origin in the Lands Between.

Numen live a long time, though it’s not explicit as to how long that may be. Marika could have come from Farum Azula, or she could be from a later age after its inhabitants fled the meteor catastrophe. That particular detail isn’t really important, but her connection to the city’s clerics probably is.

One could write about how this background gave Marika the knowhow to structure an entire religion – but that’s off topic for this series.

3.3 Eternity’s End

Though timeless, Farum Azula is ultimately destroyed by meteor strike. It’s safe to say this catastrophe ends the reign of Ancient Dragons - their god flees the city with the Elden Ring, and so they lose the favor of the Greater Will.

As a side note; the present form of Farum Azula is only a fragment of something much larger - be it a city or entire landmass. Ive often wondered if the mysterious land depicted on dragon talisman items is the unbroken Farum Azula. The current city is too fragmentary to say anything conclusive, but having dragons embedded in the land is the closest to the mentioned 'wall of living stone'.
