proper reupload in the high quality this fantastic segment so deserves; eagle pig and duck bias notwithstanding, this will forever be my favorite variant of the fabled switcheroo (and a reminder that Daffy was first at his own game!) the committal on behalf of both characters--especially the sincerity of Daffy's feigned sincerity--really sets it apart
#that delivery of “don't you believe i'm a fish?” sounds so hurt and it's perfect#likewise i think there are few one-liners/toppers that make me laugh as much as 'i told ya i was a pig'#and that all knowing glance at the audience from Daffy doesn't feel obnoxiously smarmy or self aware#there's a friendly nonchalance to it. a very clear amusement and not in a way that undermines anything this segment is setting out to achie#again. my favorite buzzword: that sincerity! a sincere investment and amusement in watching Porky obliviously and endearingly make an ass#out of himself#and of course the cross dissolve and setup of the composition implying a story/sequence of events taking place within that time...#this short isn't my favorite P+D short--i still LOVE IT A TON but there are so many i revere--but i think it's one of the most definitive#if someone was looking to get a good understanding on their character dynamic this would be one of my immediate recommendations#i haven't had the bandwidth to spread my pig and duck gospel but please#watch Porky and Daffy cartoons#tangential but i've always loved the sound effect Treg Brown uses for Porky dropping the gun#good exaggeration/whimsy while also connoting Porky's stubbornness and that this stupid petty argument is enough for him to lose sight of#his motives and discard his murder weapon. all because of this joyously stupid argument. so i like the self awareness there with how obtuse#the sound effects are#because anyone who is not Porky Pig would have just shot him point blank#and that is everything i love about their dynamic and how Daffy's intoxicating charisma and ability to get people invested even affects the#very characters on screen#gee d'you think i ought to have said more about this scene#lt#duck soup to nuts#freleng#vid

Had an epiphany while designing Nereus about how ‘I cannot make this man six thousand years old and the brother of Queen Doreus’ because that’s…not a feasible thing in the httyd universe. I’ve already established magic isn’t one of the things I’m bringing over from The Deep, so whatever magic anti-aging cream Nereus has didn’t make it into his luggage when I scooped him up and placed him into my story. I’m also thinking of ideas for Queen Doreus, and it’s gonna be a bit easier than tweaking Nereus cause we know NOTHING about her other than the fact that she was Nereus’s older sister, the last Queen of Lemuria, and conked a bunch of sea monsters on the head before peacing out to who knows where and then promptly dying (she also presumably had a kid because the Nektons descended from someone and you cannot convince me it was Nereus)
#I’ve already changed a few things about Lemuria for my story#for starters it stopped being a kingdom a bit more drastically than it did in the deep#which i will cover in Nereus’s design/bio sheet#alongside what the Guardians are doing and what their motives are with no Prohpechy of the Chosen One to wait for#but just like Lemuria and the Monumentials and their backstory#because we know next to nothing about Doreus…i can come up with WHATEVER i want without worrying about it conflicting canon#because canon has given us Goose-egg nada zilch zap nothing about her#the deep 2015#the deep cartoon#httyd/the deep crossover#the deep Nereus

A new ref for Lemmy, and an official design and introduction of Limmy in This Universe Has Lemons In It! Limmy was created by the Guardian of the Lemonverse (any pronouns) as an attempt to stop Lemmy from what they are doing, which is creating portals to travel through various universes and dimensions to have fun. Not only is that a risk for the balance of the universe, but GotL just dislikes this kid having fun and wants to see them stopped.
Not wanting to do it in it's own hands, it created Limmy, an angel dog meant to be an direct opposite to Lemmy. Limmy, however, doesn't do much to stop Lemmy, other than following them and bickering. Their relationship is very Tom and Jerry rivalry-esk.
(Names color coded for myself to read easier due to the similar names!)
Fun fact, Limmy was originally going to be based on limes (Lime Angel), but I kept that concept for GotL - and made them more angel-like instead.
#GotL as he has been named for the time being uses any pronouns but it/he are the most used just saying#also this little story/oc universe has been planned for a while so i find it funny that GotL has basically the same motivations#miguel in across the spiderverse minus the trauma and more godly power#i just always had an fascination with like...the idea of the universe...multiverses...different dimensions and traveling across them#ive included this in most if not all my oc projects like this actually! at first mostly inspired by gravity falls#which is literally my favorite cartoon ever#i am watching a 2 and a half long video on the timeline rn its so good please watch it its by hana hyperfixates. while working on this i#watched their first 2 hour long gravity falls video. literally newest favorite video essay project? its very good it talks about queerness#in gravity falls and its their passion project and its so obvious there was a lot of effort put into it. anyways away from my tangent i go#'lemmy' put my actual tags here#oc art#character design#oc ref#ref#tuhlii#this universe has lemons in it#lemon demon#UNSURE again if i wanna use '-core' tags on this. i dont like using them much anymore and im only gonna use 'weirdcore' for some kind of#music bc theres no specifics to what type of music i exactly like that lemmy is also based on aside from lemon demon of course#[Lemmy]#[Limmy]#guz art#[2023]#fun fact! i spent like 20+ or so minutes stressing over GotL's possible name until i settled on this goofy title!#its meant to found goofy. like at first you think its gonna sound cool and then youre hit with 'lemonverse'#which it...technically is! where lemmy is from it's like... a connected bunch of worlds and universes and just places all based on#lemon demon songs and other content. tuhlii is basically a love letter to ena + lemon demon + old/childhood internet ?

I'm going through some of my H2O fanfic documents for... reasons... and I fucking forgot that I gave every single one of Lewis's family members names that start with L ahsggsgss. Do you think that his parents realized as soon as they had their first kid that they could do something extraordinarily funny. I think that's what happened.
#Also yes the only time we see Lewis's house is in the cartoon and that hurts my soul#I physically cannot write any character until I've done a deep dive on them and this is that part#I need to know backstory. Motivations. Key moments in their childhood.#I wrote up the entire point as to why b4 the events of the story Cleo is afraid of the water/swimming#Gave Rikki a whole backstory from before she came to south coast high#I gave Zane a babysitter/nanny that he had for a while until his dad fired her out of the blue#Like I just. I can't NOT know/understand/develop a character before I write them. It drives me up the wall.#They need at least a LITTLE backstory before I can even think of getting inside their brains and swirling their thoughts like spaghetti#Is it important in the long run? No!!! Probably not!! But like... It helps??? Maybe it's just me procrastinating actually writing but.#I think it helps#Cruddy rambles

Crom: Gorm the blacksmith
In a time when kingdoms rose and fell, and wars raged across the lands, there was a renowned blacksmith named Gorm. He was known far and wide for his unmatched skill in crafting weapons and armor, and his creations were sought after by warriors and kings alike.
Gorm lived in a small forge at the base of a towering mountain, where he spent his days hammering and shaping metal with precision and expertise. He had learned the art of blacksmithing from his father, who had learned it from his father before him, and so on, in an unbroken line of skilled blacksmiths who revered Crom as their patron god of steel.
One day, a group of weary travelers arrived at Gorm's forge seeking his services. Among them was a warrior named Rurik, who had journeyed from a distant land in search of a legendary sword said to have been wielded by the gods themselves. Rurik's homeland was being ravaged by a tyrant king who sought to conquer the lands, and Rurik believed that the fabled sword would be the key to defeating the tyrant and restoring peace.
Gorm listened to Rurik's tale and nodded solemnly. He knew of the sword that Rurik spoke of, for it was said to have been forged by Crom himself in the fires of the heavens. It was a weapon of immense power, capable of cleaving through mountains and laying waste to armies.
Despite the daunting task, Gorm agreed to forge the sword for Rurik, for he believed that Crom had chosen him for this great undertaking. He set to work with unwavering determination, channeling all his skill and devotion into crafting the sword worthy of a god.
Weeks turned into months, and Gorm toiled day and night, pouring his heart and soul into the sword. He faced countless challenges along the way, from finding rare materials to overcoming unforeseen obstacles, but he never wavered in his faith in Crom and his commitment to the task at hand.
Finally, after months of tireless labor, the sword was complete. It was a masterpiece of blacksmithing, a weapon that radiated with the power of the gods. Gorm presented the sword to Rurik with solemn reverence, knowing that he had fulfilled his destiny as a servant of Crom.
Rurik took the sword with awe and gratitude, thanking Gorm for his extraordinary work. He set out on his quest to confront the tyrant king, wielding the sword with the might and fury of Crom himself. The battle that followed was epic, with Rurik cutting through the enemy forces like a whirlwind, empowered by the god-forged sword.
In the end, Rurik emerged victorious, defeating the tyrant king and restoring peace to his homeland. The sword, now known as "Crom's Wrath," became a legendary symbol of power and justice, revered by all who heard its tale.
As for Gorm, he continued to live in his small forge at the base of the mountain, continuing his work as a blacksmith and praising Crom for the opportunity to have played a part in the legend of Crom's Wrath. He passed down his knowledge and skills to his apprentices, ensuring that the legacy of Crom's craftsmanship would continue for generations to come.
And so, the story of Gorm and Crom's Wrath echoed through the ages, a testament to the unwavering faith and skill of a humble blacksmith who had been chosen by Crom himself to forge a weapon of legend. It was said that Crom's blessing and guidance could still be felt in the mountains, a reminder of the god's eternal presence and favor upon those who remained faithful to his teachings

I cannot emphasize to you enough that the sonic movies are unreasonably good. they do not follow the formula of being a cash grab that so many other big name franchise movies do.
Yeah there is cheap humor in it sometimes but it’s a kids’ movie, also sonic as a character has always been saying cheap corny stuff and not only that, but every single time there is a gag or a joke it is played completely straight. It’s never out of character, particularly sonic’s lines. I keep thinking about how they’ve made it clear that part of his joking and banter is out of insecurity, a “hahahah i need to talk to diffuse this situation” type of thing. i’m particularly thinking of the “haha who does your highlights” thing in the current movie. Shadow rightfully responds to this like “???? what the fuck dude??” because it’s treated not just as A JOKE but an actual, motivated part of the dialogue that the other characters respond to.
Honestly the person who has the most jarring gags is Robotnik but even then it works for his character because he’s just.. that unhinged. There is a full, sudden 4th-wall break in sonic 3 and i almost didn’t care because if anyone was gonna do it, it would be him. It was kind of a funny “i’m at a movie premiere” moment so it worked in the theatre, but i wonder how it will be received and age for people watching at home. But EVEN THEN, these out-of-sequence moments are so rare, and what they do is add to the tone of the movie, which takes itself seriously, but also reminds us to not take it too seriously. They walk this beautiful delicate balance of being a serious movie fully invested in its own stakes and circumstances while also being movie actualizations of cartoon characters. It centrally hinges on the principle that in order for any humor to work in a performance, the actors (and the story) must still be motivated and fully invested as if everything around them is a real circumstance. All three of the sonic movies have mastered this as an art.
Every single actor puts so much thought and love into their character, and the writing does not assume people will like it “just because.” It is so clear that story is the priority rather than ticket sales, and so they end up creating beautiful moments that serve the characters arcs as a piece of art and storytelling rather than just what’s gonna sell. There are literary devices in these things man. Sometimes they’re a little overemphasized, but again. Kids movie. And the thing is, these moments are woven into the parts that do sell. It’s genuinely phenomenal. It’s like a masterclass on good storytelling.
The sonic movies are one of the few rare “other media” movies that do not cop out just because they’re kids movies. That do not cop out just because they already have an invested fanbase who would come anyway. They are a testament to what happens when everyone on the team from the top down cares about the story and the characters. When they let people who are genuine fans of the content work on it. The movies abound with niche and subtle fan references (even memes!) but you blink and miss them. They’re never distracting and again, never played for JUST being a gag or a reference.
What I’m saying is I came into all three Sonic movies as an already established fan who would see junk anyway, preparing to be disappointed, and got ART instead??????? And they’re still putting out bangers three (hopefully four! AND a spinoff!) movies in??????
#sonic 3#sonic the hedgehog#sonic movie 3#everyone say thank you jeff fowler#we gave the man who let shadow say swear words millions and millions of dollars to work with#and this was the result: art

So... I wanted to write about the Caitlyn hate train because it's flooding my twt.
First I'd like to start by saying that you're entitled to dislike a character. Arcane is a work of art, but it's also just cartoons -whatever, just hate the cartoon character. I don't even like Caitlyn that much, mostly I find her arc very compelling.
But. The amount of hate and the shape it takes, for me, is very clearly influenced by a few factors.
With Caitlyn I feel like half of the folks are just regurgitating discourse they read before and try to earn internet morality/politics points while very much forgetting to touch grass. There is no"I don't like her", there is a sense of rightgeousness in disliking her that doesn't make much sense. "She's literally Hitler!" Please think. There are real life fascists and nazis over here. This is a cartoon who's the bad guy for like four and a half episodes.
There are interesting conversations to have about how Caitlyn's actions mirror real life oppression, as many also point out as a reason to hate her. It's fair that you dislike her those actions, to be honest. But 1) stories are not made to be morally perfect but to explore themes and emotions -characters will do bad, even evil things; 2) critical consumption of media exists; 3) using political language to hate on a fictional character with no real political critique/analysis behind makes me think you don't really believe that much what you're saying & you just want to use buzzwords you learned on the internet.
Takes like this are tinted with some sort of attempt to a moral high ground for disliking a fictional character for political reasons, while simultaneously refusing to understand the narrative of the character and think critically about what it is trying to say about real world politics.
To analyse a story you have to engage with it. See what it wants to tell you. See how it does it. See how it fails. You can dislike Caitlyn and tbh disliking her because of her role in the story is more than fair. But that doesn't equal media analysis. And I'm sorry but not liking a character doesn't make you more politically committed than the rest.
There are so many interesting things to say about Arcane's flawed portrayal of politics. How it uses the aesthetics of oppression to tell a story without deeply analysing the oppression itself within the narrative, how the context in which it was created and the beliefs held by its authors afect the portrayal of themes... Among all these, "Caitlyn is evil and irredeemable because we saw a montage of her and Vi doing police violence" is a very superficial take. Please, please, pleeease analyse those montages frame by frame and discuss how they showcase police violence, what bias they have, what purpose it serves. Analyse how it takes from real life events in a way that is insensitive. I'd love it sooo much to see posts like this.
On the other side, I've seen people say both that say Caitlyn is evil because of the acts she commits and then say that Silco is a revolutionaire. What? Silco WAS a revolutionaire, and he still had a motivation to make Zaun free, but his motivations do not match his actions and that's pretty obvious. "Sometimes revolution requires violent resistance" = "Silco is a revolution hero" showcases a very shallow level understanding of the first phrase there. Silco flooded the streets of Zaun with drugs. The Firelights were born out of willingness to defend zaunites from Silco and Jinx. Silco did not do violent resistance against Piltover, not since the rebellion he had led with Vander. He tried to invent shimmer as a weapon to fight again and the only thing he managed is to make many people misserable and dependent on it -and he didn't care. His character and his actions are quite more complicated than "he's doing everything for revolution"; but again, another character reduced to a catchphrase that fails to actually engage with his story. Only difference between these people's opinions on Silco and Caitlyn is that Silco's character has the word "revolution" near in the script and Caitlyn's script includes "cop".
Another thing is, why hate Caitlyn so much and not say a single thing about Ambessa? I can think of a few reasons but I'll summarise like this:
1) Not being aware that Ambessa is always the one calling the shots here even if Caitlyn is given the title of Commander. Even though the show is very much making this clear.
2) Because Caitlyn gets a redemption and Ambessa gets "punished" aka is a villain and dies. As if humans where not more complex than good and evil.
3) Caitlyn's more popular than Ambessa I guess? It's always more fun to hate on the popular character. Also she's a main character so she'd obviously get more more attention.
3) Some people just want women to be perfectly moral all the time, and in wlw relationships even more. I didn't want to bring up fandom misoginy & lesbophobia but I can tell if it was Jayce having her narrative and redemption the discourse would be quite different.
Anyway. Acab and long live critical thinking. I guess I just want to say please send some nuanced Caitlyn takes my way because I'd really love to read those.

ok can we talk about edwin and niko some more please bc i’ve been thinking about them non stop and the only word i can use to describe their dynamic is lovely
so there’s edwin, who’s acerbic and particular and brusque, who doesn’t tolerate new people and things, who has been carrying the trauma of his murder and torture in hell for decades
and then there’s niko, who is odd and fey and utterly uncomplicated in her goodness, despite her own grief and hurt. she has no ulterior motive, she’s sweet, genuine, and finds joy in the little things - manga and cartoons and love stories and sea glass on the beach
and they just bring out the best in each other! niko sees edwin and accepts him without hesitation or reservation or in any way asking him to change. she understands him, even the parts he himself doesn’t yet understand and edwin is so open and gentle with her in a way he isn’t with anyone else except charles because he trusts her. in some ways he can be more open with her than he can with charles, because there aren’t the complications of new feelings around a very old friendship
then in turn edwin recognises niko’s own unconventional brilliance. this girl who might be written off by others as ditsy and airheaded, he values her contributions, validates her concerns, and praises her investigative instincts. he listens to her
i’m just so soft for how niko makes edwin gentler, more open, more accepting of himself and others, while edwin helps niko to be brave and more confident in herself and what she has to offer the world, and i will die if we don’t get to see them together again in s2
#they are so so special to me#i get too many feelings if i think about them for too long#dead boy detectives#dead boy detectives spoilers#dbd#edwin paine#edwin payne#niko sasaki
