when I was a little kid at some point I got upset with my parents because I didn't have a crucifix in my bedroom and they did- I was like why do YOU get to be safe from vampires??? you're okay with me getting my blood sucked???? so we took a little trip to the catholic store but the one closest to us was run by a group of nuns that had been moved here from romania. I got a little baby pink cross and this sweet old nun was like 'aww, is this a baptism gift?' and I was like no. I need to be protected from vampires. and she immediately got SO serious and was like 'this is the best one we've got, you'll definitely be safe' and since she was literally from vampire land I was convinced she was like, van helsing. like the whole time my parents had been laughing about how cute my fear was but she literally Knew dracula and was taking my concerns seriously I held this over my parents for so long lmfao

You can survive almost anything through the right combination of:

Bitching and moaning

Hater-ology

Doing a goofy little bit about it

Having a buddy say "that's so fucked up" at intermittent points (you can also be your own buddy)

Destroying the cursed amulet you carry everywhere, why do you even have that thing

One weird experience of transitioning is failing at ur assigned gender role the whole time and everyone constantly deriding you for it but then u come out and it's like we lost a beautiful gender conforming warrior today. Must grieve for my wonderful child who pissed me off by being ugly and weird since day 1

you know even if a homeless person or a starving person is in that position because of their own "bad decisions" i don't care. it doesn't matter. no supposed financial misstep is enough to condemn someone to homelessness or poverty.

Realizing the change in American food culture in my life time is largely due to the fact that nearly a third of adults smoked cigarettes at the year of my birth and that number has dropped to about 10% is something that is deeply obvious in retrospect but I also needed someone else to point out to me. Like, the nightmarish 50s cookbooks existed because nearly half of everyone regularly consumed an appetite suppressant that made you unable to taste or smell for shit. I remember some comedian saying that it was easy to be skinny in the 80s because everything tasted like shit. Or course it did. 40% of your restaurant clientele could't fucking taste it which greatly decreased the potential profitability of any eating establishment that was actually trying, thus affecting the standards even of people who COULD taste. Even if you didn't smoke, odds were someone in your household did and everything tasted like ash. It all makes sense now.

the thing is in hindsight i do think the hipster vs fandom blog dichotomy was a completely real and true phenomenon because to this day i will come across a social media post, youtube video, trend forecast article, etc that namedrops "2013 tumblr" and with the absolute bare minimum of context clues you can IMMEDIATELY tell whether they had a soft grunge blog or whether they were yelling about their ovaries exploding in the reblogs of a benedict cumberbatch gifset and it is ALWAYS one of those two extremes

There's actually a level beyond "thinks their kink is secretly universal and everyone who claims they're not into it is lying" where they acknowledge that some people don't swing that way, but conclude that these people are evil. I once had somebody insist to me that not having a piss kink is reactionary.
