I love the idea that the 2003 iteration of Leonardo is so intent on being a mother hen that he tries to take care of literally everyone around him—even grown-ass adults. I especially love the idea of fifteen-year-old Leonardo mother henning Casey and April, who are in their mid-twenties.

Leonardo: [hands an apple and a protein bar to Casey] Here. You might get hungry during patrol, and it’s important to keep your energy up. I also have dark chocolate or peanut butter if you finish those.

Casey: [staring at the snacks, confused] Uh… thanks, Leo?

🧑‍🍼how does Splinter raise the boys

Splinter is a good parent, not a perfect one but he tries his best.

He's been training the kids in ninjutsu since they were young children, but only because he is absolutely TERRIFIED of anything happening to them. (Considering that when they were only a few minutes old all four kids ended up badly injured and on the brink of death while fleeing the lab and they spent most of their toddler years on the run...Splinter at the very least wants the boys to be able to protect themselves. So basically SSDF Leo taken up several notches)

Splinter is fiercely overprotective of his babies, if someone looks at them wrong they die, end of discussion. In fact they werent allowed to leave the bunker they live in for the first eight years of their lives. (Only reason that changed was because the kids snuck out into the sewer tunnels in the middle of the night. Multiple times)

They couldnt leave the sewers until Mikey's fourteenth birthday, when the kids were BEGGING to go up to the surface. (And they could, for exactly one hour...well they were out for two hours and immediately got themselves involved with the Footclan, got sent to the Spirit realm, communed with the Hamato Ancestors, FOUGHT THE SHREDDER TWICE, gained brand new mystic powers (that Splinter doesnt know about for a long time, and he finds out when the powers nearly kill his kids) and were followed home by a thirteen HUMAN child named April. (The kids are magnets for trouble) So...that worked out great.

Let me be clear, the reason Splinter is so overly protective is because he KNOWS the world is dangerous. The first NIGHT he had the kids he almost lost them all. He is TERRIFIED of anything happening to them (of his kids getting involved with the Foot clan, of their creators recapturing them)

Splinter has been living in constant severe anxiety for the past 14 years. 14 years of worrying about when, not if but WHEN his kids would end up in so much trouble that they wouldnt be able to get out of.

And that's his biggest problem, he's so over protective that it causes the kids to keep secrets, potentially lethal secrets, in order for the little bit of freedom they have to not be taken away by their worrying father.

(he'll get better about it, but thats for ✨character development✨)
