AU where instead of working at the factory the men of Tazmilly village were forced to work at Club Titiboo as the sexy waitresses instead of the Factory. Flint spends way more time at the club on this AU.

Good News - June 8-14
Like these weekly compilations? Tip me at $Kaybarr1735! And if you tip me and give me a way to contact you, at the end of the month I'll send you a link to all of the articles I found but didn't use each week!
1. Rare foal born on estate for first time in 100 years
Tumblr media
“The Food Museum at Abbot's Hall in Stowmarket, Suffolk, is home to a small number of Suffolk Punch horses - a breed considered critically endangered by the Rare Breeds Survival Trust. A female foal was born on Saturday and has been named Abbots Juno to honour the last horse born at the museum in 1924. [...] Juno is just one of 12 fillies born so far this year in the country and she could potentially help produce more of the breed in the future.”
2. The cement that could turn your house into a giant battery
Tumblr media
“[Scientists] at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have found a way of creating an energy storage device known as a supercapacitor from three basic, cheap materials – water, cement and a soot-like substance called carbon black. [... Supercapacitators] can charge much more quickly than a lithium ion battery and don't suffer from the same levels of degradation in performance. [... Future applications of this concrete might include] roads that store solar energy and then release it to recharge electric cars wirelessly as they drive along a road [... and] energy-storing foundations of houses.”
3. New road lights, fewer dead insects—insect-friendly lighting successfully tested
Tumblr media
“Tailored and shielded road lights make the light source almost invisible outside the illuminated area and significantly reduces the lethal attraction for flying insects in different environments. [...] The new LED luminaires deliver more focused light, reduce spill light, and are shielded above and to the side to minimize light pollution. [... In contrast,] dimming the conventional lights by a factor of 5 had no significant effect on insect attraction.”
4. When LGBTQ health is at stake, patient navigators are ready to help
Tumblr media
“[S]ome health care systems have begun to offer guides, or navigators, to get people the help they need. [... W]hether they're just looking for a new doctor or taking the first step toward getting gender-affirming care, "a lot of our patients really benefit from having someone like me who is there to make sure that they are getting connected with a person who is immediately going to provide a safe environment for them." [... A navigator] also connects people with LGBTQ community organizations, social groups and peer support groups.”
5. Tech company to help tackle invasive plant species
Tumblr media
“Himalayan balsam has very sugary nectar which tempts bees and other pollinators away from native plants, thereby preventing them from producing seed. It outcompetes native plant species for resources such as sunlight, space and nutrients. [...] The volunteer scheme is open to all GWT WilderGlos users who have a smartphone and can download the Crowdorsa app, where they can then earn up to 25p per square meter of Balsam removed.”
6. [Fish & Wildlife] Service Provides Over $14 Million to Benefit Local Communities, Clean Waterways and Recreational Boaters
Tumblr media
“The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is distributing more than $14 million in Clean Vessel Act grants to improve water quality and increase opportunities for fishing, shellfish harvests and safe swimming in the nation’s waterways. By helping recreational boaters properly dispose of sewage, this year’s grants will improve conditions for local communities, wildlife and recreational boaters in 18 states and Guam.”
7. Bornean clouded leopard family filmed in wild for first time ever
Tumblr media
“Camera traps in Tanjung Puting National Park in Indonesian Borneo have captured a Bornean clouded leopard mother and her two cubs wandering through a forest. It's the first time a family of these endangered leopards has been caught on camera in the wild, according [to] staff from the Orangutan Foundation who placed camera traps throughout the forest to learn more about the elusive species.”
8. Toy library helps parents save money 'and the planet'
Tumblr media
“Started in 2015 by Annie Berry, South Bristol's toy library aims to reduce waste and allow more children access to more - and sometimes expensive - toys. [...] Ms Berry partnered with the St Philips recycling centre on a pilot project to rescue items back from landfill, bringing more toys into the library. [...] [P]eople use it to support the environment, take out toys that they might not have the space for at home or be able to afford, and allow children to pick non-gender specific toys.”
9. Chicago Receives $3M Grant to Inventory Its Trees and Create Plan to Manage City’s Urban Forest
Tumblr media
“The Chicago Park District received a $1.48 million grant [“made available through the federal Inflation Reduction Act”] to complete a 100% inventory of its estimated 250,000 trees, develop an urban forestry management plan and plant 200 trees in disadvantaged areas with the highest need. As with the city, development of the management plan is expected to involve significant community input.”
10. Strong Public Support for Indigenous Co-Stewardship Plan for Bears Ears National Monument
Tumblr media
“[The NFW has a] plan to collaboratively steward Bears Ears National Monument to safeguard wildlife, protect cultural resources, and better manage outdoor recreation. The plan was the result of a two-year collaboration among the five Tribes of the Bears Ears Inter-Tribal Coalition and upholds Tribal sovereignty, incorporates Traditional Ecological Knowledge, and responsibly manages the monument for hunting, fishing, and other outdoor recreation while ensuring the continued health of the ecosystem.”

I love your Au of Tripitaka Tiger. I also imagine aus where Tripitaka is a tiger.
I think he would be a fierce and adorable tiger. I love your Au and how it explains Tripitaka's life and interactions after that big change.
I think it's nice that Azure is interested in Tripitaka. They are both big cats, they have things in common.
How would Tang and Azure react to knowing that ligers, tiger/lion hybrids, exist?
(the drawing are mine)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yes! I believe I came across your art linked on reddit before! It's so very cute! <3
And thank you for your kind words about the Tiger Monk au!
As for knowledge on Ligers (hybrid of a male lion and a tiger), I can imagine the Pilgrims discover these kinds of hybrid on accident while conversing with humans in an inn or temple they're staying at.
Wukong, looking at a painting: "Huh. That tiger looks to have a mane like a lion." Host: "Ah yes! That painting was made to commemorate our Abbot's encounter with a adhabaghera. The creature was completely docile and refused to harm the Abbot, despite its hunger. It stayed at our temple for some time until the King took it into his private menagerie. Last I heard, the creature is currently still alive, and pampered like a house cat." Zhu Bajie, grumbling: "Lucky son of a gun." Tripitaka: "I beg your pardon, but what is an adhabaghera?" Host: "I forget that you are not local. Adhabaghera refers to the young produced between two different species of big cats. The one our Abbot encountered was the offspring of a female tiger and a male lion." The Pilgrims: (*all pale, dropping their cutlery*) Tripitaka, glamour slipping: "Tigers and Lions can produce young? Together?!" Host, getting nervous: "Well, yes! Any large cat that can become a panther can interbreed with another and produce live young. Lions, leopards, tigers, and the like!" Sha Wujing, nervous chuckle: "Well Master! Now we understand why Wukong's old Brother Lion pursues you so diligently!" Tripitaka, groaning: "I worry enough about my appearance drawing attention - now I must worry about the risk of attracting beasts that only wish to create hybrid young!" Wukong: "Don't worry Master! As long as you don't mate with any big cat demon, you'll be fine!" Zhu Bajie: "I thought demons of any species can produce young?" Tripitaka: (*despairing roar!*) Host: (*confused*)
Azure now getting extra annoyed smacks from the Pilgrims when he sniffs around! XD
Odds are that Azure (and many other demons) is already aware that tigers and lions can produce offspring together. Part of his fascination with Tripitaka is the idea of having giant adorable liger cubs.
to give a clue of what a "Liger" looks like: this is Hercules from Miami. He's the Guinness World Record holder for "Largest big cat on earth". He weighs roughly 418.2 kg (922 lb) - about the size of two regular tigers. This is because lions and tigers both have a gene that limits size growth, which is passed on through opposite parents. Ligers are pretty much born with acromegaly.
Tumblr media
They're also completely useless as hunters. Too docile and big.
Now I'm imagining if Tripitaka decided to keep his pregnancy from the Mother-Child River, if his body would steal dao/life energy from his suitors to "fill in the gaps" of his children's' dna left by not having a partner?

I’m sure someone else has beaten me to it, but here’s a translation of the ledger Andreas can find in the abbey library, with my translation notes – long post below the cut:
Mother Katharine, Prioress AD 1459[1]
Sister Hildegard, 16 years old Named Anna Gölderich, of Ravensburg. Proficient in Latin. Studious and obedient, with a soft, pious voice. 150 florins donated by her father. Additional 15 florins annually.
Mother Hildegard[2] AD March 1481
Sister Cecilia Daughter of the Welser family of Augsburg[3]. Named Adelheit. She is wise and learned in Latin and French. 200 florins given by the family before her arrival. Additional promise of 20 florins annually. AD August 1505
Sister Gertrude Named Metze[4] Huberyn, born in the Variscan Court[5]. Minimal proficiency in Latin. Kind and knowledgeable about herbal medicine. Most knowledge passed down by her father, an apothecary, who donated six florins to the monastery.
Sister[6] Matilda, 17 years old From Kempten[7], named Matilda. Moderately proficient in Latin. Calm, disciplined. Daughter of a Frisian merchant who donated ten florins and a large quantity of ultramarine pigment for the Scriptorium’s use. Mittenwald Ascetarium, May 1515 to September 1515[8]
Sister Illuminata Named Angelina, from the noble Capocci[9] family of Perugia, who were close to Abbot Rudolf[10]. Extremely learned in Latin as well as French and Germanic languages[11]. Restrained[12], sensible, and perceptive. The Capocci family donated 50 florins before her arrival, with an additional promise of 20 florins annually. 1507
Mother Cecilia, Prioress February AD 1510
Sister Sophia Born to the Hafner family in Birgitz. No knowledge of Latin but gentle and reverent. Parents are humble paupers. Three sacks of flour donated. AD 1512
Sister Lijsbet, 34 years old Born in Dutch Trecht[13], from the Hack Woutersen marriage[14]. Moderately proficient in Latin but proficient in Saxon. Hardworking and pious. Merchant parents. She has long been connected to Kiersau through her mother’s family, the Kaufmanns of Rothenburg ob der Tauer. They gave 12 florins, with an additional promise of two florins annually. AD 1514
Sister Margarete From the Auer family in Krimml. Mostly blind due to glaucoma. Can see colours. Moderately proficient in Latin. The daughter of wealthy peasants who each donated bags of wool and pastureland in Krimml. AD 1515
Sister Zdena The third daughter of the Rožmberk family of Tábor[15]. Very learned and proficient in Latin. The Rožmberks paid 100 florins before her arrival, with an additional promise of 30 florins annually.
---
[1] In the original text, the year is written as MCCCCLVIIII. Typically this would be written as MCDLIX, in accordance with subtractive notation (i.e. how we normally write Roman numerals), but there are historical examples of additive notation sometimes being used, for some reason – sometimes both would be used interchangeably in the same document, or even the same number.
[2] This entry likely documents Hildegard’s promotion as opposed to there being two Hildegards in the abbey, as there’s no other information included and the same is done for Sister, later Mother Cecilia below.
[3] The Latin here is originally pretty clunky and obscure (“Welser daughter of the Augsburg Vindelici”); Andreas explicitly mentions Cecilia’s family as well (and telegraphs other important information for the player this way). The Welsers were a German merchant family that rose to prominence in the 16th century as financiers for the Habsburgs along with another family, the Fuggers. They accumulated their wealth mainly through trade and the German colonisation of the Americas, including enslaved labour, so. Yikes!  The Vindelici were a Gallic people based in present-day Augsburg; I don’t actually know if the Welsers themselves were descended from them, but I’d assume so, given that the region is correct.
[4] Diminutive form of Mechthild.
[5] The contemporary name for Hof, believed at the time to be the seat of the Varisci/Narisci people.
[6] Sister Matilda is an oblate, as are Lijsbet and Magarete. Oblates aren’t professed monks or nuns, and so are technically part of the laity, but have associated themselves with a monastic community. They make formal promises – either annually or for life, depending on their affiliated monastery – to follow the Rule of the Order; as a result, they’re considered an extended part of the monastic community.
[7] I initially was stumped by this word and thought it referred to Matilda’s occupation in the abbey as cellarer, but then remembered Andreas reads she’s from Kempten, the old Latin name for which is, indeed, Cambodunum.
[8] Matilda’s age is either current in 1518, which would’ve meant she was 14 when Lorenz Rothvogel attacked her, or her record was retroactively updated to reflect her leave in 1515, making her 20+. Unfortunately, I think both are equally plausible, though being in her 20s would mean her relationship with Brother Wojslav, who imo appears to be older, has (slightly) less of an age gap.
[9] A quick search reveals the real-life Capocci were mostly associated with Viterbo, which is not Perugia lol.
[10] Another clunker originally.
[11] Theodiscus was the contemporary term referring to West Germanic languages; it comes from a Germanic adjective meaning ‘of the people.’ Since Latin was the language of science and religion, theodiscus was its opposite, i.e. the language spoken by the people.
[12] Retinēre very broadly means ‘to keep or hold back’ and so usually gets translated as either ‘to restrain’ or ‘to uphold.’ In describing a person, it can suggest any number of things: literally, physically restrained, or emotionally restrained, as in temperate or even repressed; someone who is steadfast and firm, or simply just is intelligent – as in, literally retains information well. Illuminata is all of these things, but I think ‘restrained’ suits her most compared to, say, tenacious.
[13] Utrecht. The city takes its name from the Roman fort Traiectum on the Rhine.
[14] Imma be real with you chief, other than Hack and Woutersen both being Dutch names, I have no fucking clue what this references – if anything – and I’ve found nothing that would help shed some light on it, either.
[15] The Rožmberk (Rosenberg) family was one of, if not the most powerful noble family in Bohemia from the 13th century until the early 17th century. Zdena is RICH rich, but her story is also pretty sad; it’s little wonder she’s Like That.

Having got into the habit of reading a few pages of a Pratchett book every night before bed, I finally reread the Nomes trilogy, which was one of the very first Pratchett stories I read, when I was 14 or so, long before discovering the Discworld, and I LOVED it so much. I remember ranting about it to my (very fantasy-adverse) mother in her car once. The bromeliad thing blew my mind back then!
Curiously, though, I'd never drawn these characters before. That is now fixed! Have a little gallery of nomes:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(1 - Masklin and Grimma, 2 - Dorcas and the Abbot, 3 - Gurder and Angalo, 4 - Granny Morkie and Old Torrit, 4 - Shrub and Pion)
And the whole group together:

Enjoy!

Hey! Thanks so much for sharing that list of monastic-themed fiction. Would you mind also sharing some good non-fiction titles on monastic masculinity? (I saw in one of your posts that it was a topic in your dissertation.) It doesn’t have to be exhaustive, just something for an introduction or maybe some titles you personally like. Thanks a lot!

Can't sleep? Are you a total night owl? Well, it seems to be so that Duster is almost nearly nocturnal as well. Here's multiple villagers' thoughts to support the fact.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Id: Three screenshots of Mother 3, all pre-timeskip and speaking to Duster, the first being in front of Tazmily's well and the next two being in Abbot's house. The first displays dialogue from Brenda that reads "I take it that after all this time, you're finally trying to fix your nocturnal lifestyle?". The second and third read dialogue from Abbot that reads "I thought you were the type of man who wakes up at night and sleeps in the morning, but it seems you're trying to be a man who wakes up in the morning and sleeps at night.".]
I'm also adding a bit that this is likely why other Tazmily villagers act like they haven't seen him since he was a child like so:
Tumblr media
[Id: A screenshot of Mike speaking to Duster in Thomas' Bazaar pre-timeskip. The dialogue reads "Oh! You're Wess's son! My, how you've grown!"]
Another line reveals that he is rarely, if ever, seen during the afternoon, making it possible that Mike acts like he's some kid who grew up because he is always awake when everyone else is asleep and they literally did not see him in years.
Tumblr media
[Id: A screenshot of Elmore speaking to Duster in the mayor's house pre-timeskip. The dialogue reads "My! It's been years since I've seen your face in the afternoon!"]
Possibly a lonely life for Duster, folks.

Treasure Triplets- Bonus Characters
Gonna reposting some posts from my old account with character profiles and some revised facts:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Vanessa and Will Runic, everyone!
Like Elliot, Will was born in Florence but moved to the US when he was a baby. Sixteen years ago, his mother lost her powers thanks to Connor Klein. Most believed that this was due to the fact that she was evil and constantly tried to steal his fortune. Those closer to the Klein family believed this was more due to an incident related to Isaac, Connor’s nephew.
Vanessa is still scheming- however, this time to reclaim her powers. To do so, she sends Will to try and get closer to the newly revealed Klein heiresses. Despite being an evil witch, she still tries to be a good mother and allows him to actually befriend the Klein Manor kids.
-_-
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Donna and Isaac Klein are Connor’s twin niece and nephew from his now-deceased sister Tilly. Due to fertility issues, it took a while for her to conceive the children she wanted. She took it even further by experimenting with a spell that gave both twins extreme luck, in order to give them better lives then she had. Both of them took it different ways.
Donna sees it as a curse, since the spell only gives luck in money and charisma. After her mother died, leaving her with no way to remove the spell, she ended up in the military before leaving to have a fruitless career as an archaeologist for Klein Enterprises. She forces a smile every day despite finding nothing to prove her worth.
Isaac uses it as a blessing. He sails through life with an easy grin, ignoring how people whisper about him behind his back and the fact that his ‘friends’ are usually manipulating him. The only time he gets angry is when he gets called a nothing, or when Vanessa Runic and something called the ‘Hattie Incident’ gets brought up.

Tumblr media
Marcus Hilton, owner and head of Hilton Inc and rival to Connor Klein.
1. He’s a year or two older than Abbot and Molly Klein but is shorter than both.
2. He dyes his hair to look younger.
3. He’s the second richest man, which is the source of his rivalry with Connor.
4. His CEO is paid very well to babysit him.
5. He was born in Boston.
6. He constantly mixes up the triplets’ names. (Ignoring the yells of this is why they’re color coded.)
7. He is straight as a ruler.
8. His company is one of those companies, despite that there is LGBT+ staff, that go rainbow for Pride for brownie points.
9. Despite his rivalry with Connor, Klein Enterprises and Hilton Inc does run a children’s charity.
10. And despite never getting their names right, he does try and get the triplets to work for him.
-_-
Tumblr media
Antigona Delvina-Prifti  is the CEO of Klein Enterprises’ rival Hilton Inc. She also serves as the assistant *cough babysitter cough* to Marcus Hilton, Connor’s rival.
1. She immigrated from Albania at 19 to go to business school.
2. Her favorite triplet is Becca, due to the fact that Ella and Terra aren’t helpful when it comes to separating Connor and Hilton during their arguments.
3. She would’ve worked at Klein Enterprises, except Hilton Inc’s board of directors offered her a larger salary to deal with Hilton.
4. She has a girlfriend named Gemma who ends up working for Klein Enterprises as the in-house doctor.
5. She plays roller derby! (Mostly to resist the urge to punch Hilton.)
6. Her family is Muslim and Antigona does keep to some traditional Muslim practices, including covering her hair.

9. She is far-sighted.
10. Becca pays her for business tutoring
-_-
Tumblr media
Harrison McFall is the superhero Dark Knight, Kalani’s future boyfriend, and Noor’s father.
1. Dark Knight was actually a TV show and Harrison was going to act in the movie before the original actor, James Glass, tried to kill him and set fire to the set.
2. He got Terra’s first crossbow gauntlet because she thought he needed better protection.
3. Harrison’s father is mayor of the next city over.
4. Harrison left his family due to them being homophobic and toxic towards him.
5. He was a gay mess for Kalani within a few minutes of meeting him.
6. Harrison is actually brunette, but he had to dye his hair for the movie part. He kept the top part of his hair blonde afterwards due to liking the look.
7. Becca ended up with his coat on his first public hero appearance due to her nearly dying and being a panicked mess. He gave it to her to try and comfort her and she never gave it back.
8. When it comes to interacting with his family, Harrison is petty.
9. He knows how to sew.
10. His favorite dessert is blueberry pudding.
-_-
Tumblr media
Noor McFall- Al-Amin is Harrison’s adopted daughter and Terra’s future girlfriend.
1. Her mother moved from Pakistan before Noor was born to work as a scientist for Klein Enterprises.
2. She plays football and hockey for her school and is learning about roller derby.
3. She enjoys learning copycat restaurant recipes and making them halal.
4. She’s planning on buying a motorcycle when she’s old enough.
5. She runs both the Klein Enterprises and the Dark Knight Instagram accounts.
6. One of Noor’s most popular posts is the livestream of the entire staff of the Bin playing Mario Kart. (Becca won.)
7. Like the triplets, Noor is very light for some reason.
8. Gibbs and Harrison ended up needing to make Noor a special pair of gauntlets and arm/kneepads to wear when patrolling with Dark Knight.
9. She’s fifteen, making her a year old than the triplets
10. When they’re older, she and Terra will make a podcast describing the Treasure Triplets’ adventures.

On 10th November 1150 work began on the construction of Dryburgh Abbey in the Scottish Borders.
Dryburgh was founded by Hugh de Morville for Premonstratensian canons from Alnwick Priory in Northumberland. De Morville was the Constable of Scotland and Lord of Lauderdale, but despite his Scottish titles he was a Norman lord, with his roots in England, so it is not too surprising that he invited English canons to populate his new abbey.
Construction of the new abbey concentrated on the abbey church, but even so, the church was not finished until the early 13th century.
Dryburgh became the mother house of the Premonstratensian order in Scotland, establishing daughter houses at Whithorn, in Dumfries-shire, and Fearn, in Ross-shire, among other locations. Dryburgh was never as prestigious or as wealthy as the three major Borders abbeys at Melrose, Kelso, and Jedburgh, but it lasted for 400 years in this peaceful spot by the Tweed.
The peaceful life of the canons at Dryburgh was disturbed in 1320 when a canon named Brother Marcus punched the abbot. For this serious offence he was expelled from the abbey. Much worse was to come just 2 years later in 1322 when the armies of Edward II, retreating from a reverse against the Scots, heard the abbey's bells ringing in the distance. According to legend, the army turned aside from the route of its march and sacked the abbey, setting fire to the monastic buildings and carrying off whatever loot they could grab.
The Scottish Reformation had a more long-lasting effect, however, and the numbers of monks dwindled until there were only 2 remaining in 1584. Eventually the last of the monks died or left, and the abbey was left to crumble into ruin.
Then the 11th Earl of Buchan stepped in. The Earl was a keen antiquarian, responsible for founding the Society of Antiquaries in Scotland in 1780. Buchan bought the Dryburgh site and turned it into a peaceful landscape garden, where flowers bloomed amid ancient ruins. When the Earl died in 1829 he was buried in the sacristy. His close friend, the novelist Sir Walter Scott, died just 3 years later and was buried in the north aisle.
Pics are a reconstruction by Andrew Spratt and pics I posted here taken on my visit to the Abbey in April 2013.
