TW: Discussion of late 2010s queer discourse/infighting on Tumblr (ace and arophobia, enbyphobia, etc.) and questioning of trauma.

Can online queer discourse be traumatic or am I just exaggerating it all in my head?

I got my first tumblr way back in 2017-2018, and ended up witnessing the height of fucked up discourse, transmed garbage, ace and arophobia, panphobia.... It was awful.

This was not helped by me both joining the site too young and making a discourse blog myself AT THAT AGE.

Thankfully I deleted it after only one or two years.

And nowadays, whenever I see something that reminds me of that queer discourse, I end up feeling unsafe, especially online.

Is my brain being dramatic or did I fuck up too hard with my baby blogging habits and accidentally traumatize myself?

21. All of the above is technically true, and Russell T Davies should put it up to a poll and see who wins, and we must all commit to the democratic vote.

I think it's a little bit funny that Nightmare probably thinks every so often that it's good he and Dream are so old that nobody else was really around for their childhood and no pictures exist. Only they remember each other being so small and innocent and cute, things that would be detrimental to the evil menacing reputation Nightmare has worked hard to build up. Only Dream knows and if he tried to tell anyone there's no way they would believe him on his word alone, so at least Nightmare doesn't have that to worry about.

And then Dream befriends the One Guy in the multiverse who can hear a story and draw an exact perfect picture of it.

This part in 32 chp always felt kind of odd to me and this is the reason why:

The coward wolf boy, Lock. Until Choi Han found him, Lock had been hiding as the chief had told him. The Lock at that point is very much a coward, a weakling, and kind of slow. In simple terms, Lock easily took the position of the character that readers found to be extremely frustrating.

This has bothered me since I first read the novel, and to this day, even after several rereads, it still haunts me.

Cale simply isn't the type of a person to actually call a kid, no matter how they behave, to be "frustrating".

(When the text said "readers" it's damn well obvious of Cale being the one to think so.)

Pondering for some time I can roughly guess why the wording was so unexpected for his character.

At the time of the assassination/kindaping in the village, Lock was only thirteen years old. He also hasn't had his first berserk transformation yet. Therefore it is not surprising that Lock's uncle hid him and told not to go out, saying that everything was fine and he should continue to hide.

Now let's look at the situation realistically.

Lock (in tcf) jumps out of his hiding to protect his younger siblings. The adrenaline and inner Blue Wolf Tribe's instincts to protect turned on his berserk transportation one year beforehand, however if not Rosalyn and Choi Han, who came earlier than in the actual novel, i don't think it would help much.

Lock would possibly be able to kill a few people or at least seriously injure them, but CMON. They killed an ENTIRE village full of berserk Blue Wolf's and with almost-Wolf King (Lock's uncle). Do you really believe that a thirteen years old boy jumping into his first berserk transformation would be able to fight properly against strong organization that had holy water or some sort of holy artefact on their hands?

Again, if not for Choi Han's and Rosalyn's arrival... it would have definitely ended pretty bad.

In TBOAH Lock for some reason didn't jump out. Different circumstances, wrong wroted part in the novel, idk, but the fact is stated: Lock stayed hidden. He also most likely survived only because of Choi Han's help. Just with much worse scenario where he was left alone from the whole village.

And it wasn't Lock's fault yet again. He was a child. No matter if a Beastman one or not, the boy was just an innocent, naive and weak child.

So why would Cale, Kim Rok Soo at the time, find him frustrating? Extremely so even!

The answer is much easier if you think about it.

Because it wasn't Kim Rok Soo blaming a kid for being weak and cowardly in a fearful situation, it was a man who saw his own past that he hated so much.

A coward, a weakling and kind of slow.

For Rok Soo, who blamed himself for half of his life for the deaths of team one members, Lock was like a salt for still open, but ignored wounds.

KRS greatly disliked and maybe even envied Lock for a bit. The boy got a new family, he got friends and some sort of guidance from them even after facing so much despair.

While he was all alone, trying to understand what to do on his own.

It sure is irritating for Rok Soo.

Yet Team Leader Kim Rok Soo was probably unable to fully hate Lock for his weakness, because while the latter was still a kid, the same forgiveness can't be used on him. At least in his own head.

So with conflicting feelings Cale settled on "Extremely frustrating" description.

are there any habits, mannerisms, practices etc. A does because of B? anything they do because they saw B doing it, or got advice from them about it, or something rubbed off on them? alternately, are there any little things B does that annoy them?

is there anything they really disagree on? what are they most likely to argue about?

what do outsiders think their relationship is? do they consciously or unconsciously act different around others?

how well does A think they know B? are they correct?

what's something A knows about B that most people don't? alternately, what's something most people believe about B that A doesn't?

if B asked A for help, how likely would they be to give it?

if A needed help, how likely would they be to ask B for it?

for two characters that met very recently, how would their dynamic be different (if at all) if they had known each other for much longer? for characters that are childhood/longtime acquaintances, how would it be different if they met for the first time today?

what's A's absolute favorite (or least favorite) thing about B?

free space: what's your favorite thing about their dynamic, as a fan or as a writer?

It's interesting how consistent Kuusuke's disdain towards his grandparents is. Especially since it's never really acknowledged. Here's a compilation: • Preventing them from learning about Kusuo's powers

• Angering Kumagoro by attempting to take the money from the car

• Playing around with him and causing him to faint

• Including him in the GBG plan

• Telling Kumi to keep using the machine despite knowing the side effects and how much she cares for her appearance

- Poppy's short tail and Dart's nub-butt are both caused by the manx gene, Dart just has a higher expression! (it's dominant so Pine doesn't have it at all) - Burnet and Quiver have the exact same eye colour and very close skin tone - Pine's mullet will get bigger as he grows but it's important to note even as a baby bc i think it's funni - Poppy looks like a unit but is mostly fluff, Burnet is actually stocky - age can be at least partially determined by how yellow someone's teeth are lmao - Quiver's angry eyes started as a joke but stuck around bc it's fun to draw - Pounce (and Lilac to an extent) is the only character with dark brown pads bc of a silly headcannon I have regarding fully white characters being polar adapted, most characters will continue to have pinkish red ones! (except new lil guy bc he has melanism) - I like to imagine Burnet isn't piebald but actually has a somatic cell mutation similar to bloodmark horses. Why? idk, i think it's fun, and also genuine piebaldism comes with health issues - everyone has different ear tufts bc i think that's cute cx - Lilac is tall
