I hate golf in the way only an eldest daughter forced into golf lessons hates golf. When Birdie Wing hates golf – when Eve swaggers onto the course in her stupid outfits, refusing to adhere to any etiquette, uses only three clubs and slaps a ball directly into the flag to drop it straight down? I love that. When she lifts her driver and points it and says she’ll kill somebody with it? I love that.

Also like when Aoi says she’ll get her attention with this and pulls her extra long driver out and holds it like a strap. And then her beleaguered caddie talks about how Aoi pierces everyone through with an innocent smile. That was good.

The thing that stuck with me the most wasn’t actually any of the golf shenanigans – it was the way that Eve effectively shoots Aoi down when they discover that they shared a father and were therefore half-sisters. Well, it’s yuri – incest is just something you get used to. Except then it gets revealed that that was a fakeout, because Aoi’s dad was actually her dad’s best friend and her parents were in a throuple that the dad who raised her left behind to secretly raise Eve. Also her dad is Amuro Reiya and also Char Aznable is in this one? And the HG Turn A Gundam? Don’t forget to increment the Lesbian Cuckold clock up to five – Aoi herself and her poor caddy, who didn’t deserve a mysterious blonde swooping in like that.

mary had always been perceptive to marlene, ever since they met and there was a long list of things she noticed about marlene throughout their time knowing each other.

firstly was that mary noticed the way marlene always changed in the bathroom before bed and how he always got up before anyone else in the morning in 1st year. how the one time mary woke up early enough that marlene was still changing, blush had flooded his cheeks when he spotted her moving and rushed to button up the last of the buttons on his shirt.

then there was the way in 2nd year mary noticed how marlene had such a fixation with emmeline vance, specifically emmeline on the quidditch pitch. he watched every play, every pass, every movement the quidditch player made. but that wasn’t all mary noticed she noticed the way marlene would blush and look away the second anyone else spotted him doing so.

after that in 3rd year mary noticed the envy marlene clearly had for sirius and even james, this came as a shock to mary who knew marlene grew up with james, but he would frequently watch them as they play fought with an expression anyone else would read as annoyance but mary knew to be jealousy. marlene would roll his eyes after spotting them talking to girls in the hall ways and complete with them at quidditch practices

then in 4th year mary couldn’t help but noticed marlene looking at himself in the mirror for too long and wearing big baggy jumpers all year around no matter the heat, even when he was so clearly suffering. it got to a point where one day, in the summer months, marlene had passed out from heat stroke and even then as he lay in the hospital wing mary spotted the way he hunched in on himself like he was scared of his own body. she also spotted the way that after that marlene wore a larger version of his usual quidditch jersey as often as he could get away with.

then mary noticed marlene’s discomfort whenever her hands got caught in the hair around his face and shoulders when they kissed for the very first time at the end of their 5th year after spending all year walking on an invisible tightrope. but mary was more than happy to take him to get a pixi cut over the summer when it kept happening.

then she noticed marlene cringe at the word girlfriend being used in reference to him after they started dating in 6th year, how marlene would cover it up with a smile but his eyes told a million different words. mary started calling marlene her partner after and it never failed to make marlene grin in a way that was the most beautiful thing mary had ever seen making it so, so worth it.

in 7th year not long after mary’s 18th birthday, marlene and mary talked about having sex for the first time. it had been lovely but mary had noticed the way marlene hadn’t wanted anything in return. he hadn’t wanted mary to reciprocate and so mary had asked marlene about it casually in bed. it was the first time he nervously told her about being a stone butch, how it didn’t mean he wanted to be a man and how it didn’t mean something was wrong with him either. that he was still the same marlene he had always been.

she told him she loved him just as he was and asked him to tell her more about it as they laid next to each other in the quiet of the room in the dark of night. she later on went and did research of her own finding little things to try suprise him with to help him feel more comfortable in his own skin.

first was when she helped him bind his chest for the first time after the two got a place of their own after graduation. she had held him in her arms as he cried looking in the mirror over how much he liked looking at himself for the first time since he was a child.

second was a year or two into living together in their one bedroom flat, when she looked at some tutorials in magazines on “men’s” hair cuts at home and replicated it on marlene, giving him a more masculine cut than the pixi he had at the time.

then was when she had used he/him pronouns with marlene for the first time when talking about him to their cat. she hadn’t even fully realised she had done it but she did notice the way marlene came over and hugged her from behind and whispered thank you in her ear.

she remembers the first time marlene had let mary reciprocate during sex claiming he had never felt as safe as he did in her hold.

10 years of being together had also been 10 years of marlene slowly feeling more and more content with small acts of femininity when with mary and mary alone.

things like the feminine terms he always hated being used on him, one day mary had made a passing comment that she would of made marlene her wife in a heartbeat if they could. the following day marlene came home with a ring even if they couldn’t legally marry it was enough for them and so whenever anyone asked her if she had a husband she would always tell them yes, even with their close friends she would call marlene her husband, saving the title of wife for when it was just them.

"Willie Taylor" Martin Simpson, 2016 Upon hearing this song, it stuck out to me for a few reasons. the active character of the song is a crossdresser, this song and its relatives are about a woman crossdressing as a man to find her husband, and in some versions, she doesn't even care that her husband remarries and attends their wedding positively. and often she marries the ship Captain and they live happily together. In my opinion, this puts it in or adjacent to the category of transgender history. Very fascinating for a folk song .

"Willie Taylor" is a rendition of the traditional English Folk song "William Taylor", (which is the oldest song I have covered on this blog) was first published in a chapbook in London in 1712 (I couldn't find a digitized copy) and would continue to be published up through the 1800s. The first publication I could find and show you is from 1792 in the chapbook "Four New Songs". in this, it is titled "Billy Taylor"

The Earliest sheet music I could find is from 1895, Collected by Frank Kidson

This song also seems to be related to another song about a crossdressing sailor woman called "The Rambling Female Sailor" collected here in the 1860s by Frank Kidson, but they are classified as different songs.

While in most modern (1860s onward) versions, the song is comedic, originally it was completely serious and genuine. this folk song from the early 1700s if not older, presented a crossdresser as a sort of folk hero, a figure that people would sing about with veneration. That's amazing to me. I think it would be fun to reimagine the song as either: the woman cross-dresses as a man and runs away with her husband's woman after killing him as a butchfemme relationship, or the woman could be reinterpreted as a transgender man who runs away and falls in love with the ship captain. idk I just think these would be cute fun new renditions.

i think it's important to say that what makes ME butch. isn't what makes everyone else butch. everyone's different everyone experiences their identity in their own way etc etc etc

butchness is more than what most people think, like just having short hair and wearing dumb jeans. it's a way of being, something i express through all aspects of my identity, including the way i dress and behave.

i see some people saying we're reinforcing stereotypes by saying "i behave in a masculine way" because there's no "masculine" way to behave which like. okay i see where you're coming from. i do i really do but in our society it still very much is established how men are supposed to act, masculine, and how women are supposed to act, feminine.

now, being a lesbian (or queer in general) already inherently goes against this idea, but being butch is like a. double. to me.

a woman behaving the way a man does, looking like a man, loving women (in whatever way, romantically, sexually, platonically, just bc of lesbian connection <3, or wtv else), is rebellion. gender transgression. revolution!

i dress pretty masculine (as well i can with the clothing taste of a 15 year old emo girl (im wearing my black sweater with jason from friday the 13th thats has red stripes on the sleeves)) but i will grow out of that. i have long ish hair. my hair's an important part of me & despite it being long, it still ties to my butch identity.

i think. a big part is the way i interact with other women, especially lesbians. traditionally, especially (but not only) when the butchfemme community was first prominent (about 40s-60s). men did things for women because they had to. they were the man. i do things for women because i want to. do you know what i mean this sounds so silly. i treat women better than men did (& well. do) is what i'm saying. butch is sort of, partly, the traditional idea of chivalry to me. you know.

Why I like them/why I don’t: TRULY ONE OF THE REALEST ONES axel really carries like a solid half of season 3 on his shoulders and then comes back swinging with the Angst Agonies in season 4 like HE DOES IT ALL. HE'S JUST A RELIABLE DETERMINED GUY WHO WANTS TO FIGHT FOR GOOD. AND his duel disk is a fucking GUN.

What I like about their appearance: i love his eyelashes, theyre a more subtle detail but theyre very charming. Also it's just always a small miracle to see a black anime character whose design isnt Um. Questionable. All Things Considered (looks at girag 8| )
