My first oil-based painting ever.
Uploading here, so it’s my only 100% safe space in the whole internet.
Painting morphine (and/or stuff) shows my addiction clearly. But tbh I’m proud of myself. All in all syringe’s on canva - not my vein.

i know this won't be available everywhere, but especially if you live in a larger city where a lot of folks are affected by opioid use/addiction, it's a really good idea to ask local pharmacies, and even food banks if they are giving out free narcan (naloxone). this can also be found at certain behavioral health offices as well, my case manager is able to get them for me for free. narcan is a life saving medication that can temporarily halt an opioid (oxycodone, hydrocodone, heroin, fentanyl, codeine, morphine, etc.) overdose while you wait for emergency medical services to arrive.
opioid overdose is distress of the respiratory system, meaning that the person overdosing likely is struggling to, or can't breathe at all. it's very important to watch to see if the person is dealing with labored or shallow breathing.
here the official use guide:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Image ID start: Two screenshots from the FDA's Narcan (Naloxone HCl) Quick Start Guide infographic. It reads:
"Narcan (Naloxone HCl) Nasal spray quick start guide. Opioid Overdose Response Instructions.
Use NARCAN Nasal Spray (naloxone hydrochloride) for known or suspected opioid overdose in adults and children.
Important: For use in the nose only.
Do not remove or test the NARCAN Nasal Spray until ready to use.
1.) Identify Opioid Overdose and Check for Response Ask the person if they are okay and shout name.
Shake shoulders firmly and rub the middle of their chest.
Check for signs of Opioid Overdose:
Will not wake up or respond to your voice or touch
Breathing is very slow, irregular, or has stopped
Center part of their eye is very small, sometimes called "pinpoint pupils".
Lay the person on their back to receive a dose of NARCAN nasal spray.
2.) Give NARCAN nasal spray
Remove NARCAN nasal spray from the box. Peel back the tab with the circle to open the NARCAN nasal spray.
Hold the NARCAN nasal spray with your thumb at the bottom of the plunger and your first and middle fingers on either side of the nozzle.
Gently insert the tip of the nozzle into either nostril.
Tilt the person's head back and provide support under the neck with your hand. Gently insert the tip of the nozzel into one nostril, until your fingers on either side of the nozzle are against the bottom of the person's nose.
Press the plunger firmly to give the dose of NARCAN nasal spray.
Remove the NARCAN Nasal Spray from the nostril after giving the dose.
3.) Call for emergency medical help, Evaluate, and Support
Get emergency medical help right away.
Move the person on their side (recovery position) after giving NARCAN Nasal Spray
Watch the person closely.
If the person does not respond by waking up, to voice or touch, or breathing normally another dose may be given. NARCAN Nasal Spray may be dosed every 2 - 3 minutes, if available.
Repeat Step 2 using a new NARCAN Nasal Spray to give another dose in the other nostril. If additional NARCAN Nasal Sprays are available, repeat step 2 every 2 to 3 minutes until he person responds or emergency medical help is received.
For more information about NARCAN Nasal Spray go to www.narcannasalspray.com, or call 1-844-4NARCAN (1-844-462-7226)."

TW for drug usage + medical ableism
While I was looking through the disability tags I saw a couple of posts talking about people being denied their medications over assumptions that they’ll use it for recreational purposes. Idk how common this is because I’m not currently on any meds but there were multiple posts with a lot of notes so I presume it’s not rare.
So here’s my problem: one of my characters has a history of substance abuse during their backstory (the addiction is at their lowest point), and a bit before the actual beginning of the story they start the path to recovery. Part of this recovery is of course getting sober, but part of it is also getting support for dealing with their disabilities (idk if it matters but they’re a mix of physical and psychological) and some of that help comes in the form of getting medicated. Because these are both pretty big things for the character so get mentioned a lot, and because they happen in like the same segment of the story, I’m worried that it may give the impression that the character is taking the medication to use recreationally to readers, which isn’t a stereotype I want to employ at all. Do you guys think this could be a problem?
Hello,
Keep in mind that if he has a history of substance abuse disorder, his doctors are going to know that and probably will not put him on a Schedule 2 medications. Depending on where he is in his recovery, they might play it safe and avoid Schedule 3, too, or at least Schedule 3 medications that are related to what he was previously addicted to. Schedule 4 and Schedule 5 should be safe. So I would recommend finding lower-schedule medications for the conditions he has and learning about those. They won't be as powerful as things with a higher chance for addiction and there will be a huge difference in what his day will be like if he takes ibuprofen for pain versus morphine.
But really, if you show him taking his medication responsibly and describe how it helps because of how bad his symptoms are without it, it likely won't give the wrong impression. It's not like he would be randomly pulling a random Vicodin out of his pocket and taking a pill whenever he feels like it, he would take his medications at certain times, with certain amounts of time between doses, or in extreme circumstances like taking something for a panic attack. If you write him using his medications as he should and being careful (in my experience, usually a bit overly careful because he really wouldn't want to go through substance abuse all over again,) you won't have a problem. Writing about him using medication responsibly won't look like him recreationally abusing substances. I think you should be fine.
If you have any questions about using medication with a history of substance abuse, feel free to send an ask!

THURSDAY HERO: Barney Ross
Dov-Ber Rosovsky was a world-champion boxer and injured World War II hero whose fierce Jewish pride made him an icon to American Jews.
Dov-Ber was born in New York in 1909, the son of a Talmudic scholar who fled to America after surviving a pogrom in Belarus. Dov-Ber grew up in Chicago, helping out in his father’s small grocery store in a poor neighborhood and studying to be a rabbi.
His life was changed forever when his father was shot dead resisting a robbery at his store. Dov-Ber’s mother suffered a nervous breakdown and the kids were farmed out to foster homes.
Dov-Ber became bitter and angry. He turned his back on religion, changed his name to Barney Ross, and took a job working for Al Capone. Barney’s goal was to make enough money to buy a house and reunite his family. He soon became such an effective street fighter, however, that he gave professional boxing a try. Strong, fast, and determined, “Barney” became a world champion in the three different weight classes. He was known for his exceptional stamina and his street smarts.
In the 1930’s, when Hitler was rising to power, Barney Ross became a hero to American Jews by showing pride in his heritage and taking a public stand against Nazi Germany.  He was determined to end each fight on his feet to show that Jews fight and don’t go down. In Barney’s final fight, he defended his title against fellow three-division world champion Henry Armstrong. Barney got brutally pummeled and his trainers begged him to let them stop the fight, but he was determined to stay on his feet. He’d never been knocked out in his career and wasn’t going to start now. He retired from boxing in his early 30’s with a record of 72 wins, 4 loses, 3 draws, and two no decisions, with 22 wins by knockout. He achieved his goal of having no career knockouts.
After retiring from the ring, Barney/Dov-Ber enlisted in the US Marine Corps to fight in World War II. The Marines wanted to keep him stateside as a celebrity morale-booster, but Barney insisted on fighting for his country. He was sent to Guadalcanal in the South Pacific. During his time in Guadalcanal, Barney became friends with Chaplain Frederic Gehrig. Father Gehrig found an old pump organ on the island, and Barney was the only one who could play it. On Christmas Eve, before Barney and his fellow Marines were to go to battle, Gehrig asked him to play “Silent Night” and other Christmas songs for the troops. Barney happily obliged, finishing off the concert with “My Yiddishe Momma,” the song he used to play when he entered the boxing ring. Father Gehrig would later describe Barney Ross as a “national treasure.”
One night, Barney and three other soldiers were trapped under enemy fire. All four were wounded but Barney was the only one able to continue fighting. He gathered his comrades’ weapons and fought 22 Japanese soldiers, killing them all. Two of the American soldiers died, but Barney carried the third man to safety, even though the soldier weighed 230 pounds, while the wounded Barney weighed only 140! For his courage, Barney Ross was awarded a Silver Star and a citation from President Roosevelt.
Barney was hospitalized for his battle injuries, and the pain was so bad that he became dependent on morphine. After the war, he returned to America and opened a bar lounge. However, his drug addiction intensified as he turned to heroin, which was easier to obtain than morphine. Barney became hooked on heroin, an addiction that cost him $500 a day, as well as his marriage, his business and his life savings. Finally he hit rock bottom, and checked into a veteran’s recovery facility. He kicked his habit once and for all, and became a public speaker who educated high school students about the danger of drugs.
In the 1960’s, Barney made his living as a celebrity spokesman. After a brutal struggle with throat cancer, Barney Ross died in 1967 at age 57.
For his wartime heroism and for modeling Jewish strength and pride, we honor Dov-Ber “Barney Ross” Rosovsky as this week’s Thursday Hero.

Okay but what really guts me about S6E21 the therapy episode is the moment where I think House really feels like Dr. Nolan's not hearing him or getting him which contributes to his feelings of distrust to um gtfo of therapy 5ever. Which this is not to say House should've done that or that Dr. Nolan is bad, it's more like this contributed quite a lot because well I'm making 0 sense let me explain.
So, I'm thinking about the scene where Dr. Nolan was like "what do you think Cuddy & Wilson talked about together. Walk me through the conversation?" House does and he basically concludes to his therapist that his interpretation of his friends is that they view him as the "House Problem" that they're more worried he's going to do something "bad" or "attention seeking" or "[insert anti-addict recovery rhetoric/ablelism/etc thing] here" because of Wilson kicking House out, out of the blue. And in a way, this is truthful and from an audience's perspective it is a believable interpretation. House is generally pretty perceptive about the people around him and their impression of him given that he does purposefully construct a certain impression of himself (so that he is not harmed by people by allowing himself to be genuine). And even though Cuddy and Wilson are the people he's the most genuine to, he still self-destructs around them and struggles with trust. Anyway, based on how Wilson and Cuddy have handled a lot of things in the past (not everything) such as the Morphine/saline thing, the first time he went cold-turkey on opiates, the tritter situation, forcing him to go to his abusive father's funeral, etc. it really does seem believable they'd view him as the House Problem, or in a way it makes sense House thinks that way overall.
Though this is not to say House is right. He is right and valid to think that they'd be worry he'd relapse/etc. and he is right to have trauma from previous horrible responses done to him and thus not have faith in any different. But House is in fact wrong because Cuddy and Wilson do genuinely care about him and do not actually see him at this current stage in the show as the "House Problem". Especially Wilson, which it was clear Wilson later realized his actions were impulsiveness and fucked up and not at all recovery informed (especially as the person of stability he agreed to be for House's recovery) since House felt forced to go back home. There's also the issue that Wilson created a home for him and House (as reiterated by Dr. Nolan and the fact the thing Wilson chose for himself was the organ, solidifying House's permanency in that home) only for him to be like jk i dont see a future for you here even though Sam who hates you doesnt mind. House doesn't realize that a Cuddy/Wilson conversation would be done out of care and guilt of an impulsive mistake and not because they just keep him around to stop him from being a "Problem".
SO, Dr. Nolan does challenge this rightfully so but he doesn't do it in the right way which contributes to House feeling unheard and stuck and realizing god I am miserable and i distrust this. Dr. Nolan challenges it by imagining the conversation in a way we the audience knows would not be how at the very least Wilson would talk. He posits Wilson as a very rational person to the point it is comical because Wilson is also toxic and irrational (again the very thing that Nolan says it was a home for you both and then he kicked House out!). I think even House recognizes this because he looks as though Nolan grew a second head like what on earth Wilson would never say that which I think really in the end makes House feel unheard. Because the message "Hey Wilson and Cuddy do in fact love and care about you" didn't come across. The "I think wilson is being rational" is what actually comes across, when House feels hurt by Wilson over what is an irrational reaction (especially given Wilson's apology to house goes poorly and comes off as more guilt than accountability, see the apartment scene).
So it guts me. it guts me that their communication got crossed and the outcome didn't work out. That House felt unheard and that Nolan wasn't able to reach him. Because it does bode poorly for House to leave therapy right now as he is at a point of crisis in his support network and he's returned home to the place that is triggering to him for a lot of reasons (hallucination/relapse/etc).
and as always for my ramblings feel free to add on/send asks/etc. :)

The incessant beep of the heart monitor was keeping Alice awake--as was the searing pain that was emanating from her abdomen. Two nights ago, she'd been rushed into the emergency room with a gun shot wound, her dear brother by her side. She'd known that the gunshot was painful but it wasn't until she'd arrived at the ER that it was discovered that the bullet had nicked her liver and she would need immediate surgery--a hepatectomy, they'd called it. They'd rushed her into the OR, cut her open, removed the bullet, cut out a small part of her liver, and then sewed her back up. Good as new, right?
However, her doctor had run into a problem when it came to the recovery stage in the medsurg department. As soon as Alice came to and realized that the doctor had tried to prescribe morphine after the surgery, she'd given them a piece of her mind. She'd understood the circumstances, sure, but they had her fucking chart and information--they knew that she was a former drug addict. After chewing the doctor out, she instructed the nurse to only give her Tylenol and nothing else. Especially considering that they'd taken a small piece of her liver, she wasn't interested in making that organ work overtime while it was recovering. Needless to say, Alice, who was usually relatively agreeable, was incredibly irritable at the moment.
Giving up on any hope of sleep, she'd started to flip through all the boring TV channels when she heard a knock at the door. "That better be my fucking Tylenol, Nurse Susie," she said, already feeling her nerves start to fray. But instead, she was greeted with a familiar face and immediately felt guilty for sounding so rude. Even if it had been Nurse Susie, she shouldn't talk to people like that. "Sorry," she said, a little embarrassed. "I'm a bit...cranky today." 'Cranky' was putting it lightly. She was fucking pissed. She was furious. Why the fuck had this happened to her? No, she certainly wasn't perfect but what had she ever done to deserve getting shot at? And when would her past discretions stop rearing their ugly head every time she thought she'd finally conquered them? "To what do I owe this pleasure?"

Finished reference for my Nier Reincarnation OC, Katya: Cynical Lieutenant
___________
She’s a lieutenant in the military and primarily works medical duties. She used to be a full time frontline medic until her left leg was injured badly in an explosion, so now she primarily stays back and handles injured soldiers brought back. She’s very jaded at this point in the war so she comes off as somewhat distant and apathetic to most people, but she’s very serious about treating her patients and making sure she does everything she can to help them survive.
Though she comes off as abrasive and cynical, it’s mostly due to her fatigue of the war and long since seeing any of it as anything good for either side. She’s much calmer and more open when talking about or participating in anything else. She’s also very empathetic to any feelings other soldiers may have regarding a number of things and is willing to listen to them if they ever need support or someone to talk to.
She doesn’t like to use her gun much anymore but is fully capable of effectively using to take out enemies, and she’s also quite protective over anyone else handling it because it was specifically made for her due to her being left handed.
She also used to be addicted to barbiturates and morphine as a result of overusing it to ease pain after her leg almost got blown off in an attack and to relieve her anxiety and insomnia. She’s currently in recovery and doing well keeping clean, but is very cautious and refuses to have it near her unless it’s absolutely necessary for a patient. She does a much better job at managing pain for her leg, and other injuries as well, but she does now walk with a very slight limp at times now. She also has a smaller scar next to her right ear that she usually keeps covered with some hair so people don't focus on it when looking at her.
She’s taken a younger medic under her wing as of recently, named Elsa, and is fiercely protective of her. They’ve come to have a sisterly relationship and Katya will do anything to support her and keep her from having to go out in the frontlines, and also keeps anyone who might try anything with the girl at bay.

GOTHAM'S SAVIOR
The main verse; Edward Nigma terrorizes and perplexes Gotham City with his complicated and convoluted puzzles as The Riddler. A very misguided soul who believes he’s doing what’s right for Gotham, all while hanging around the wrong people, and mercilessly hurting (and even killing) those he believes deserve punishment. Often his plans are foiled by Batman, due to his compulsion to leave clues behind. You may read more regarding this in the bio.
Tumblr media
DARLING JOURNALIST OF GOTHAM SOCIETY
Obsession, obsession turned to desperation. After YEARS of defeat by the hands of Batman. Edward became consumed by desperation; wanting to prove his superior intelligence once and for all. However, this desperation caused him to become IMPATIENT. His newest death trap was hastily made, shoddy. Edward didn’t think much about it until he brought it into action one fateful night. A contraption where had you stepped on the incorrect floor pattern, a giant steel block will drop down and crush the intended victim. However, as always, Batman figured out how the right pattern. Enraged, Edward rushed out to physically assault Batman. But due to the sloppy work of his puzzle, one of the “hammers” came loose and fell, landing right on Edward’s head. Batman tried to save him, but it was much too fast.
This was the day of the Riddler’s death.
Edward Nigma, however, spent nearly a year in a coma. Most had presumed he was dead, few would visit him in the hospital only to greet an unresponsive man. By a considerable miracle, Edward awoken, with excruciating headaches. The pain was lessen by morphine, and he suffered from a newfound phobia of death traps. The thought of even being near one would petrify him. This would put a damper in Edward’s career as the Riddler. Upon physical recovery, Edward was sent to Arkham Asylum.
Because of his migraines, Edward was provided morphine at Arkham Asylum; constantly being high from the medication caused him to be much more docile for the doctors, as well as him being more depressed. Yes, Edward was VERY depressed from acknowledging his, yet one more, defeat from Batman, and from not knowing how to deal with the paralyzing fear of death traps. Edward sought out to contemplate his life, and if he’ll ever defeat Batman. This led to him, for once, obliging with the doctors and properly following therapy. Upon realizing the therapy, along with the medication for his mental illnesses, were actually making him feel better, Edward continued on with therapy. Eventually, the scuffed Asylum determined that Edward was mentally well enough to rejoin society.
The newfound clarity of Edward’s head caused him to rethink his choices, contemplate whether he did the right thing or not; whether or not the murders he committed were justified. Nearly dying in his very own death trap caused him to even sympathize with some of his victims. Edward decided to try and live a (mostly) crime-free life by becoming an investigative journalist with his own blog. This way he can continue on with his goal of making Gotham a better place, and calling out the secrete corruption within, in a more legal way. However, he found himself still addicted to harder drugs, abusing his morphine and illegally obtaining more once he finished his prescription before he was supposed to.
Sometime along his career, a former sex-worker who Ed did business with would come to him; explaining to him how she had joined a secretive cult which revolved around intelligence and worshiping Le Diable: the cult’s own view on Satan, believing he was smart enough to go against God and become his own person. Le Diable was who GIFTED humans INTELLIGENCE, according to them. The leader of the cult, Eddison Alarie, is seen as the host to the devil who's currently possessing him. She told Edward how they were going to kill her toddler daughters, Edith and Eden, in a sacrifice. Edith and Eden are conjoined twins, joined just underneath their armpits. Although their birth was seen as a miracle within the cult, their recently discovered autism became a problem; it was a sin; they were a child of God, and thus ones of ignorance. Sacrifices were semi-regular within the cult, slaughtering anyone who wasn’t seen as intellectually good enough. Edward agreed to infiltrate the cult and save the babies.
Edward’s endeavors were successful, Edith and Elaine were safe and the cult had been dealt with ( albeit under mysterious circumstances Ed won't delve into ) It was afterwards, did the woman inform Edward that the tots he held in his arms were his, from a broken condom accident a few years ago. The woman never told him because she became wrapped up in the cult. With her, and some of the remaining members being arrested for multiple charges; the biggest charge being murder, human trafficking, and/or accessory to murder. As a result, Edward took custody of Edith and Eden.
Presently, Edward lives as an investigative journalist in a decent apartment with his daughters Edith and Elaine, whom he loves more than anything. However, even as a mere journalist, he still gets into many predicaments...
Tumblr media
BRAINS OVER BRAWN
An enigma to all; Edward Nigma is the HEAD of the Cyber Crime Division. Although he’s the most beloved employee by the staff, his coworkers loathe him; an ARROGANT man who, despite his best intentions, has rather questionable morals.
Tumblr media
BROKEN TOY
Eddie Nashton is a small genius living in a broken home with his two parents. He doesn’t have many friends, and is a rather lonely boy. He’s an overachiever in school, but his parents cannot know that.
Tumblr media
OVERACHIEVING TROUBLEMAKER
Although he may have impressive grades in high school, Eddie Nashton is also considered a bit of a delinquent. Despite his desire to befriend other classmates, he mostly ends up fighting with them more than anything.

It's a wonder Daniil isn't addicted to morphine and other medicinal drugs by the end of Patho... Or maybe he is...
Honestly I only used morphine once or twice during the game because I one-shot killed people and rarely if ever got hit. Even fist/knife fights are very easy to cheese.
Morphine was better traded or sold off. Bandages are more cost efficient as heal items too.
Maybe 12 days is too short of an amount to get addicted? It's not like crystals where you're immediately hooked. Even if Daniil used it twice a day for those 12 days, he is more likely to overdose than develop an addiction.
The whole game just kindly turns a blind eye to the dangers of mixing morphine and alcohol. It could even indunce a coma.
Opioids are safely prescribed to adults post surgery to take home with them in the form of tablets that gradually release their dosage after consumption. While the Morphine glass viles ingame are directly injected into the bloodstream and have a more immediate strong effect but are also quickly flushed out of your system by your liver afterwards. These recovery periods can take months at times, and only a small percentage develops a tolerance for morphine and experiences withdrawal afterwards.
Keep in mind that Katerina have been taking it for years.
Some people's body reaction to morphine aren't pleasent, sure it still works as a pain relief but it could make you nauseous and have unpleasant side effect.
My hope is that Daniil is a doctor and he is aware of the risks and can deal with withdrawal afterwards. Artemy has been an army surgeon and administrated so much morphine to soldiers and knew to be careful with it.
Clara, however, is what has me worried. You do not prescribe opioids to minors. Only adults receive morphine. Lesser pain killers are given to kids. But ah she is kinda magic so maybe it doesn't have the intended risk on her?

post surgery stuff under the cut (nothing graphic, just general thoughts) but i do mention vomit so tw vomit / emetophobia and addiction stuff
remember, ymmv with surgery stuff.
okay first up, i didn’t have any complications so my surgery was quick. i think i went in at 9 and by 11.30 i was sending messed up texts to say i was coming round (i was not coming round, i was still semi-fucked up).
secondly, ordinarily the nursing team try to push patients to get up, use the bathroom and drink water with in an hour of coming round. i apparently was a weird exception because the first thing i did was go ‘please can i have the biggest glass of water you have’ while i was in the recovery room.
thirdly, general anaesthetic puts me on my arse. i slept on and off all day in between drinking plenty of water and then eventually threw everything up. 0/10 experience for that bit.
fourthly, lewis had to talk to the nursing team about my pain medication regimen. paracetamol = yes. morphine = only once a day. codeine = sparingly. and he’s in charge of my take home pain killers because otherwise i’ll take all of them in one go and i admit it.
fithly, pain/discomfort wasn’t so bad yesterday because i was still working GA out my system. today things are a bit more ouch. i’m not looking forwards to my drains coming out later.

I think the recovery and relapse Process of any addiction be it alcohol drugs, co dependent relationships, suicidal ideation via high risk behavior needs to be handled Mostly with care and sympathy. I’ve been to a NA meeting in a bad part of LA and if guys that have tear drop tattoo’s Hispanic Nazis and so on can improve and admit that jay they had to gor through and chanfe it’s a beautiful thing but also not to scold or feel like someone failed cause someone relapsed. But I’ve been told going cold Turkey is actually really dangerous especially in my case of doing a ball a weekend or more and then just stopping. I’m
Lucky to be alive for franky a lot of reasons and I’m
Mostly just saying that if you or someone you know od and addict 1: I’m here for those that want to vent

I'm SURE this has been done before but... House MD fanfic w a MASH au??
Hmm. So obviously House would be our Hawkeye. We all know House would absolutely utilize his injury to avoid doing something he doesn't want to. So, if we wanted to make this interesting-- what if he instead fakes being totally fine at his draft physical so they'll send him. When he arrives at his MASH unit, he's using a cane and everything. He's convinced everyone that he's such a good doctor, they sent him to war with a bum leg anyway. Only Cuddy initially clocks that that's absolutely not true. Why does he want to go to Korea? Because he wants to help. He would never tell anyone this, but House does really care about his patients. Maybe he's in a low place and impulsively decides to go to Korea. I think his addiction would be morphine? I tried looking up what opiates were used in the early 50's and that's my best guess.
That makes Wilson our BJ! And yeah, sorry, he's a BJ. I think Hawkeye and BJ's relationship bears a lot of resemblance to House and Wilson's-- notably, that it's painful. "I am pure of heart and insane and you are deceptively selfish but 'a nice guy' and we are best friends and we love each other and we hate each other." Etc etc. Wilson is already in a sore spot in his marriage when he gets drafted to go to Korea. He very much seems like the "family man" type, but he's either misremembering the marriage or convinced that the war puts a pause on all of its problems. And he's convincing. He doesn't look twice at any of the nurses, doesn't cheat on his wife with them. While he's cordial and pleasant, he initially tries keeping most people at arms length. But he can't help but get wrapped up in whatever House is up to, and it's maybe a bit like how BJ slowly changes the longer he's around.
I don't think women were CO'S but I don't think we really have any choice but to make Cuddy the CO. It's a MASH au. It'll live. She doesn't typically have a high tolerance for subordinate bullshit but House is clearly the reason why their recovery numbers are so high, so she's begrudgingly lenient with him.
I could see Cameron being kind of similar to houlihan, in that she is capable of such immense compassion. Cameron is noticably softer than her coworkers. She gets emotionally involved, etc. House continually tells her that she needs to toughen up because this is war, but that also means that she's incredibly supportive when it's been 24 hours of surgery and everything is kind of falling apart.
Maybe I'll add to this later but it was just smthn I was thinking about. I am by no means a House MD or MASH scholar, so feel free to add or correct me if I'm wrong.

Reasons Why You Might NOT donate a kidney
Your medication requirements aren't compatible
After donating a kidney, you may have to change the medication you take to minimize stress on the remaining kidney. For instance, all kidney donors are supposed to avoid NSAIDs like ibuprofen, Aleve and aspirin, and to take Tylenol (acetaminophen) instead. You may also have other medications (including psychiatric meds) that would need to be changed.
If you aren't able to take Tylenol or find substitutes for other medications, it may be worth thinking long and hard about whether donation is right for you. Your physician and psychiatrist will be able to give you more information if needed.
You're scared of needles or blood
You will get your blood drawn a lot in the process of donating an organ, and may also get an IV drip after surgery.
You're nervous about surgery
That's valid! All surgeries and anesthesia do carry risks. The risk of long-term complications from donating a kidney is very low, but it's your body and your choice, period.
Your family has a history of kidney disease, or you already have just one kidney.
Some people are born with only one! Or if you think there's a good chance you'll need two, it's totally rational not to donate one.
You've had issues with painkiller addiction in the past
After surgery, you may have a morphine or fentanyl drip in the hospital, and you're likely to be prescribed an opioid painkiller. The amount of painkillers is normally not enough to create a physical dependency. But for some people in addiction recovery, this may still be concerning.
If this worries you, I highly recommend discussing this topic with your physician and the surgeon, and following their advice. Medical professionals in the USA cannot report you to law enforcement for using illegal substances.
Any other medical conditions that make you a bad candidate
Your own health is important, and it might also affect whether your kidney would be viable in someone else's body.
You'll get scanned to hell and back during the screening process, so if there's any medical issues that would get in the way, the transplant team will tell you. They will NOT remove your kidney if they believe the surgery or loss of the kidney could harm your health later.
You want to make a connection with someone
Yeah...don't go into this process expecting it to change your life, or win you lots of praise, or hoping to meet the recipient (if you donate to a stranger like I did). What if your recipient turns out to be someone you don't like? What if you stay in touch but the kidney fails after a few years? What if you were hoping to feel better about yourself, but a month after surgery you realize you're still the same old you?
(Personally, I do feel like it changed my life for the better, and some people do form strong relationships with their recipient after the transplant. But people can have a lot of different reactions. Nothing is guaranteed.)
I chose not to contact or receive contact from my recipient, or to hear follow-up reports of how they were doing. I didn't want them to feel indebted to me, or for me to unwittingly place expectations on them. You might choose differently, which is valid - but make sure you'd be okay with not ever hearing from the recipient, too.
You can't afford it
This isn't always a hurdle. If you donate through the National Kidney Registry, for instance, they'll try to compensate you for any lost wages during your surgery and recovery period. You won't bear the cost of surgery or follow-up appointments, either. At least, that's how it is in the USA.
However, I did have to take time off work to go to the pre-surgery appointments. I did have to buy extra groceries for before and after the surgery, an abdominal binder and robe, and a few other costs. If I get medical complications later in life, I will have to pay for those either out of pocket or with health insurance. These may still be serious considerations for you.
You can't take enough time off to recover
My surgery team recommended two weeks off work - even though I work from home. They also wanted me to have someone present to drive me to and from the hospital, and to stay with me for the first few days after surgery. Your own job, childcare needs, or transportation/living assistance needs may impact your ability to do this.
You just plain don't want to
As I said, it's your body, your choice. You never, ever have to undergo surgery and give away part of your body for someone else. Even if you love that person and they're in pain. A donated organ should be a gift given freely, and gladly, not a source of fear or worry for you.
If you aren't able or willing to donate yourself, there are still many ways you can help people in need:
You could donate blood or plasma, which regenerate over time and don't require surgery.
You could help a prospective kidney donor by offering childcare while they're in the hospital, transportation assistance, or helping them recover after surgery.
You could register as an organ donor on death, so that your body isn't affected at all while you're alive. In the USA, only 60% of adults are registered as organ donors even though 90% support postmortem organ donation.
You can spread awareness of how organ donation works! Many people don't realize that they can donate a kidney, even without an intended recipient. Or they might believe it's more dangerous or debilitating than it actually is. By sharing educational resources about it, you can still increase the likelihood of more patients getting kidneys.

I'm awake again and wanna talk about my half life writings get ready -
I'm working on a little set of post canon vignettes for freehoun and freemance with the current wips I have going being:
Barney trying to get Gordon to open up to him after one of his nightmares.
Barney and Alyx taking care of Gordon after the events of the games because his health is fucked but I also feel like Gordon would fight everyone on not having to stay in the infirmary 24/7 so. Compromises?
Gordon and Alyx hanging out while she makes D0G puppies which I've talked abt in my server a lot but it's like, my lil baby rn
And then the misc fics I've been working on slowly since school got out:
A very self indulgent Barney/Lauren white forest reunion fic because Look I love them and I know she's not canon but she's real in my heart forever and ever and there's like. Six fics in the tag last I checked
The Gordon Freeman recovery arc fic of my dreams because I have So Much to say about his health. Like yeah he's got the morphine withdrawal but guys he's. He's not doing good post-canon and I think he deserves to be taken care of. Like not even Just the addiction he probably has to opioids but he's also probably had breaks/fractured he never realized were there or had to power through, I like to think he has a lot of chronic pain in the end because of how much he's had to do? And his mental health is very shot and dead and that's another thing I wanna focus on
