Magneto and Holocaust Inversion (Many Such Cases)

Case #1: He who fights monsters ( UXM #150 I, Magneto - Chris Claremont)

So this was my first X-men comic I got at a con at a discount so THIS was my introduction to Magneto. I love this comic to bits. It's a great scene

While this sudden breakdown is quite good there's the pieta symbolism between two jews and there's the distinct implication of "I'm no better than the Nazis" in his breakdown (you are allowed to fight me on this as not counting as holocaust inversion)

to pivot Magneto this much Claremont pretty much had to do something akin to holocaust inversion because Lee and Kirby wrote him as a fascist coded character and Claremont couldn't not have Jewish (and Romani?*) holocaust survivor who was likely sonderkommando not realize the irony of his actions.

Also we get more Magneto backstory and depth in ONE PAGE than any comic before and most comics since

Case #2: No equals (Magneto Rex episode 3- Joe Pruitt)

Listen the Genosha metaphor was clumsy when Claremont wrote it but the hands of Joe Pruitt, it sounds like a Soviet psyop about the evil colonizer Jews who like apartheid.

While Pietro is one of the few people who get to say the "you're making us look bad" line and it landing in and out of universe the way it's presented is the most simplistic argument possible

The implication of "he's gone full circle and become the oppressor" is clear and this time painfully intentional. The fact that these people are imprisoned for having legacy virus- the x-men equivalent of aids just makes it all worse

Case #3: A mad old terrorist twat (New X-men: Planet X -Grant Morrison)

^ tw for misgendering Grant Morrison who used he/him at the time of publication but use they/them now.

Many people have pointed out that part of what stings when Morrison separates McKellen from the "schizoid-conflicted" Hitler reborn terrorist twat Magneto is the former is a gentile and therefore more deserving of their respect. The implications that Magneto is like that because his ideas are dumb and out-dated mirrors the way antisemites claim that Jews are gentiles over "their made up fairy tales".

I don't think Morrison is so much an antisemite as the kind of fanenby hypocritical chud who loves the silver age (bad era to fandomize and idolize, Grant) exactly as it was. They love when THEY get to make Beast or Ice man gay but hate when a Jewish writer makes a wannabe dictator a Jewish holocaust survivor. We get it Grant, rules for thee but not for Jews. No, no they'll rewrite the character as literally Hitler to show that only Morrison gets to re-write X-men comics, antisemitic implications be damned.

Well you made one thing clear, Grant sweaty, you hate retcons and the art of Jewish writers whose politics and visions you dislike.

Case #4: when your boyfriend invokes Godwin's law (House of M: Civil war #3)

I feel like Charles only gets away with this because they're such close friends (who canonically share a room) and he's been through a lot in this issue.

To be fair "you twisting semantics won't save people from fanatics who want genocide" is the BEST comeback to holocaust inversion I've seen in an X-men comic

the framing here is both of them are wrong and Magnus (that's one of Magneto's human names) is clearly in the right about this. The humans may think he's Mutant Hitler but that's because they're projecting

Case #5: The oppressed becomes the oppressor (X-men 97 episode 2)

Magneto's speech in X-97 has been said as a watered down version of his speech in Uncanny X-Men 200

What is pointed out many times is the line where he claims "his own people joined the nazis to betray him". Never expanded upon, never brought up again. There are no other Jewish character in 97, no foils. It feels almost gross and tokenistic, like Marvel wanted Magneto be the good token self-hating Jews. Since at that was the only acceptable type of Jew in early 2024.

I do hope to see a course correction seasons 2 and 3 as something as simple as showing a flashback of his past or just showing a character like Kitty would go a long way to dispel the accidental implication that Magneto thinks all other Jews are evil

*While Magneto's children Wanda and Pietro are explicitly Jewish-Romani everywhere BUT the MCU in some universes like House of M, so is he. These intermarriages happened in Weimar Germany all the time so these universes are quite plausible

Sonic Prime: Oh My Gosh Doctor Deep, You Are Such A Cute Idiot! (You Adorkable Egg-Himbo)

Sonic Prime Season 2 is awesome, well I think it’s awesome.

and it even has a cliffhanger, not gonna say what it is though...

but the scenes with Doctor Deep, oh my gosh....he just screams Egg-Himbo. 

yeah he is suppose to be a genius, but he is still a cute idiot. XD 

I wouldn’t be surprised if those who work on the show, make him act that way in Season 2 on purpose, he is giving off that Egg-Himbo Vibes in Season 2.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he starts to do that in Season 3.

Doctor Deep having his Adorkable Egg-Himbo moments in Season 2, was funny. and I wouldn’t be surprised if he showed more of those moments in Season 3.

it’s okay that not everyone ends up viewing Doctor Deep as a Egg-Himbo.

he is still adorkable Egg-Himbo of a Cute Idiot.....even if he does have a high I.Q. like the other Chaos Council....but even some geniuses can have a bit of a cute idiot in them....like they are a genius but they would turn out to not be as bright as they seem.....thus Egg-Himbo Doctor Deep, is living proof of that.

well he isn’t the first Egg-Himbo, cause Sonic Boom also has it’s own Egg-Himbo, Eggman....well two, if you count his adoptive brother from another dimension, Morpho...

and even if my crush on Doctor Deep is small, there could be other Fans who have a much bigger crushes on him....

Doctor Don’t could end up finding them and yell out to the other Chaos Council members “Doctor Deep made another group of his fans faint!.....again!”

Mister Doctor Eggman, Doctor Done-It, Doctor Don’t and Doctor Babble could of been really surprised at how many fans Doctor Deep has, but they could of got use to it but not fully understand why he has so many fans....even I don’t know how many fans he has....but one of the reasons for some to like him so much, has to do with him being a a bit of a charming guy....that and because he is a bit of a Egg-Himbo.

Doctor Deep, stop maxing out your Adorkable Cute Idiot Egg-Himbo powers...

Sonic Superstars: Sonic Mania is tired. Try Sonic Team.

Here we go again. It’s time for a dozen more rabid Tumblr fanboys, fangirls, and fanenbies to dump all over me for yet another of my (in)famous “hot takes” that fandoms and ”Gamers™” love to dogpile on.

When Sonic Mania came out in 2017, I was as hyped as everyone else was. I even ordered the Collector’s Edition, seeing this game, at long last, as a return to proper 2D Sonic after so many years of it being dormant (outside of Sonic Generations, which was glorious). I even got into this song, which was a collaboration between Hyper Potions and Skye Rocket:

And I mean...I REALLY got into it. I had it playing constantly while I was awake. I bought all of Hyper Potions’ and Skye Rocket’s stuff on iTunes that had been released to that point. I. Was. HYPED.

Then, the game arrived. I tore into it with fervour, and played it immediately.

Right away, I noticed that something felt way off. The classic gameplay was there, but it just felt different. For one thing, the difficulty was a lot higher, which wasn’t a big deal, but the overall aesthetic of the game made it feel more like a rabid fanboy hardcore gamer’s fever dream than a true return to what I believed comprised the spirit of 2D Sonic.

This makes a certain amount of sense, as this game was made purely by fans of “Classic Sonic,” so none of this came as a surprise, but it did come as a disappointment. I ended up getting about 70% of the way through the game before outright quitting, and officially dubbing Freedom Planet as the true successor to 2D Sonic.

I never thought a true 2D Sonic would ever be made ever again, so I gave up entirely.

That was...until today, literally:

Sonic Superstars is everything I ever wanted in a modern 2D Sonic game: Made by Sonic Team (the studio that started it all), uses modern, updated graphics (3D Models) as opposed to sprite art, and new and refreshing game mechanics that add new flavour to 2D Sonic.

In short, what I wanted from the beginning: 2D Sonic brought into the modern era.

SEGA is finally bringing back Sonic in style~ I’ll be jumping on the pre-order train for this as well, and I hope they offer a Collector’s Edition. And I don’t care what all of the hardcore gamers and fans have to say about this.

Spoilers for Fenn's Enchanted & Entwined route ahead!

I really loved Fenn's route in the event story!!! I'll come back and edit this post with pictures later since I'm definitely reading it three more times. Buuut for now I'm fan-bying (fanperson-ing? Fanenbying? "Screaming into at my phone" works) out.

They dropped so much information and background to Fenn and I'm?? Wasn't expecting that at all! Thought it was going to be "They found the assassin, have a short fight scene, everyone goes home happy" but then Kerrian? Fenn's piece of shit dad? Them casually having a family discussion about how much they hate Fenn? A whole fight that Louis sanctioned with Fenn's little brother trying to kill him in his bedroom? And aLL WHILE MC IS BEING HELD IN LOUIS' ARMS BEING FORCED TO WATCH IT ALL GO DOWN BECAUSE HE'S A CREEPY FUCK WHO USED ANCIENT MAGIC ON HER? Like she was forced to be subjected to him stroking her cheek saying he was going steal her from Fenn. BYE.

That whole family situation is so messy and honestly? As wrong as it feels to say it I'm living for it! Fenn just got a boost on my husbando thanks to this event. I look forward to his act 2 SO much now! I'm so glad Louis got more dimensions on his neglectful parenting beyond "I'm selfish and too busy dipping my wick in everything that moves to worry about my kids :D" because that shit? THAT SHIT? I really wanted to punch him and squeeze the stuffing out of Fenn

The Owl House, Season 2, Episode 1, "Stranger Tides," First Impressions!

Yo ho, yo ho, it's a pirate's whaler's life for Luz!

Now, if you'll recall, a common problem I ran into while reviewing season 1 is that while I was definitely enjoying it, it was so episodic that I often found it difficult to find something new to say about each episode. There wasn't a whole lot carrying over from one episode to the next that I could really sink my teeth into and fill out a full review, with the plot not really kicking in until the final two episodes.

Fortunately, I did not have that problem here, and now that season 2 has started, I have PLENTY to say about its debut episode.

So, this is what you'd expect for the first episode of the new season, an episode basically intended to bring everyone up to speed on how the characters are dealing with the ramifications of the previous season and introduce a few new elements that will set the tone for the season to come.

And basically, things at the Owl House are...not really great. I mean, sure, everyone got away and it looks like Emperor Belos hasn't really made their recapture a priority (most likely deliberately), but thanks to Lilith deciding to share Eda's curse to neutralize it, they both have found themselves powerless. They're not completely without magic, but what they have left is so meager to be practically useless. All expect for Eda's detachable limbs. Those still work. For Luz, as she never had magic to begin with and had to work extra hard to get around that handicap and find ways to keep up with everyone else, that means she's suddenly the breadwinner of the family, the one with the most power despite living with two (previously) notoriously powerful witches, and thus has taken up bounty hunting (sort of ironic, if you ask me). For Lilith, that means coming to terms with losing literally everything important to her, from her power to her position as the Emperor's Coven's poster girl, having been replaced by a spoiled teen prodigy (and oh, ho, ho, we will get to him!) as well as her own feelings of guilt for having cursed Eda in the first place.

Actually, guilt is the main motivator in this episode. Luz feels guilty for having gotten Eda trapped and that Eda now has to prioritize what little money they have for Luz's sake, which motivates her to take on more and more dangerous bounties to try to make it up to her. And Lilith feels rotten for the curse and that the fix ended up sapping Eda's powers, so she's driven to find some way of making herself useful, which fills out this episode's A-plot and B-plot.

Meanwhile, Eda herself is...handling things like a champ, actually. Sure, she's not thrilled about losing her power, nor does she care for the sudden dip in respect from the locals as a result, but she's not wallowing in self-pity. No, she's working and innovating, finding ways to adapt and keep ahead of the game. And to rip off the Empire too, because fuck those guys.

So anyway! Let's start with our A-plot: Luz the bounty hunter. She's doing her best to keep her spirits up and keep food on the table, but bounty hunting is a tough job and because everyone knows that Eda is powerless, the bondsman has no problem ripping them off because he knows he can get away with it. Furthermore, with the portal gone, Luz's messages to her mom aren't getting through, which is weighing on her mind.

Okay, we already know that Luz's mom is probably going to get involved this season. I predict that at some point, Emperor Belos completes his repairs of the portal, and when he does, all those unsent message will suddenly spill out all at once, giving good ol' Mama a heart attack.

Sort've serves her right though, because, you know, G-RATED CONVERSION THERAPY!

But anyway, she overhears Eda talking about eschewing her booze in favor of getting Luz food she can actually eat, so she resolves to make it up to her by taking on the biggest bounty of them all, which so happens to be a magical creature called a Selkie-dama, which requires her to join a ship that's setting out to do that so she could get a cut.

A ship that just so happens to be under the command of Lilith's replacement, who also so happens to be the mysterious spy working for Emperor Belos that we met last season, whom we will get to!

Anyway, they fortunately rush through the bit of Luz proving herself to the crew, because who cares, King finds out agent's private room (in a reveal that calls back to a similar scene in Gravity Falls) and gets captured, and they find the Selkie-Dama, in which Luz shows us how far she's come by utterly wrecking shit.

Unfortunately, the bounty is stolen by a mysterious figure, and Luz isn't about to get ripped off again, so she goes after them, only to find that that SURPRISE, it's Eda, who figured she'd cut out the middleman and just steal the bounty directly, because you have to admit that that does make sense.

But anyway, none of that matters, because that's when HE finally is properly introduced.

Hear that? That's the sound of thousands of thirsty fangirls (and quite a few fanboys and fanenbys as well) shrieking.

Meet the Golden Guard. Yes, he's arrogant. Yes, he's sassy as fuck. Yes, he's voiced by Zeno Robinson. And according to his brief appearance in the OP...

HE'S A PALE-HAIRED PRETTY BOY, Y'ALL!!!

So. We now have this season's small antagonist.

And since Luz is the only resident of the Owl House with any real power (Hooty aside, but we'll get to that) and now with Amity as Luz's close friend (more on that later as well), that makes him Luz's new rival! Ooooh, I can smell the Enemies to Lovers fics already!

Yeah, it's gonna be a HUGE ship, but that's no prediction, everyone knew that anyway.

But while I doubt they're actually going to get together (though count on our bi-queen Luz getting smitten once she sees his face), I do smell a redemption arc for this guy. I mean, why would they make him so likeable otherwise?

Yes, he was a jerk, but he was a jerk in an endearingly entertaining sort of way.

But beyond that, I do note that he also has a tech-powered staff (seems to be the same one that held the palisman that Belos fed off of last season, but with an upgrade), and wields the same flesh-based magic as well. Now, his ears do show that he's not a human, but I still wonder if all that tech magic (which has to be manipulating the flesh of the Titan itself) is either a crutch for the magicless or a shortcut for those who want power fast.

Also, in addition to slotting in as Luz's rival, he also has taken Lilith's place as the face of the Emperor's Coven and also uses Eda's "BYYYEEEEE!!!" catchphrase, he's set up to be a foil to just about everybody!

Anyway, he's not here to take them out just yet, but instead forces them to kill the Selkie-dama. They don't, of course, and instead trick him into thinking that they did, but it does show that 1. Emperor Belos is content to leave them be for the moment, and 2. Emperor Belos is seeking the destruction of magical creatures. Huh.

Also, called it on Luz becoming Eda's teacher when it comes to glyphs.

But speaking of rivals and ships, the question over all of this is Amity, who's been MIA with a broken leg for a while. No doubt she's not going to be upset about Luz being stuck in the Boiling Isles, but if Luz does start crushing on Prettyboy Golden Guard, I can see her feel all sorts of upset about that. I still thinking that Lumity is endgame, but now she's got to work for it, and there is going to be angst.

Anyway, our B-plot has Lilith trying to make things up for Eda, by putting together a scrying potion to spy on the Emperor's castle. Nice, will probably be important later, but the real important part, in addition to her getting over her pride (not an easy thing) was the surprisingly touching friendship she's building with Hooty of all people! I didn't see this coming, but they honestly have some great comedic chemistry.

And honestly, I can see it. Lilith's first introduction to Hooty was him opening a can of whoopass on her and her men, and now he does it again to save her from the fire bees. Sure, he's weird and annoying, but he's strong and competent as hell, something that she would naturally respect. I honestly like what they have building, and the Lulu and Hooticifer nicknames were adorable.

And now, onto our brief glimpse of Belos, who still managed to steal the whole damned episode with just a few words. We see he's gone that long, white hair thing going for him, so not a rogue palisman. So, human or shortcut-exploiting conman. Regardless, just as he seems content to leave the Owl House be despite Luz having the key (which will definitely be important later), he also seems aware of the scrying, and has no problem letting it go on.

Okay, this season is shaping up to be a great one. And next episode is an Amity episode, in which her parents meet Luz, so let's fucking GOOOOOOOOOOO!!! on the Lumity teases and oh God NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! on the awkward cringe comedy that is sure to result!

So I’ve watched SPN 15x20 four days ago...

... And I want to share my opinion. And, it seems logical, but this will contain spoilers. And maybe some anger. 

 So, four days ago, I’ve watched the last episode of Supernatural. And I take some notes. I think I’ll begin with the positives points. It’s going to be quick. 

 Positives points : 

 - the agent’s names are the producer’s and director’s name (? I’m not sure about this one) 

 - The pie festival :D (When Dean talk about facing his destiny, I thought he was going to go to a Supernatural convention ! xD) 

 - Miracle (the dog) 

 - Dean who shows that is ok for a man to have feelings 

Well, and now, be ready for the negatives points. It's going to be a bit longer. Sooo. Here they are.  The Negatives points. In the order of the episode. 

 - Where is the f*cking “Carry On My Wayward Son” at the beginning ?! Where it is ? With Sam’s lost shoe ?! It’s unacceptable ! 

 - The case is... well, vampires. Wow. So smart. (I don’t like it) (It’s like “hey, do you want to see a case with new ennemis but not so new because in fact John Winchester fought against them ? No ? Any way, you’ll watch it.”) 

 - The nail in the wooden pillar (who let this here ?!) 

 - Dean died. After a tearful speech, he died after 25 minutes (out of 43...) ! I don’t want him to die ! Where is Jack when we need him ?! He can’t ended like this ! Well, in fact, I understand but... no I still don't accept it. 

 - Where is the Saileen ? Sam love Eileen so why, in the fandom name, he don’t care about her after the episode 15x19 ?! Like hey, all the people who had disappeared have reappeared, but Sam don’t care about find her ? Can you just imagine her, lost in the middle of nowhere without her car or her phone (because Sam took it) ?! Poor Eileen ! She didn’t deserved that !  

 - Sam also didn’t care about Bobby and/or Charlie (and Stevie -Charlie’s girlfriend). Like, hey, you don’t want to know how are they ? You don’t care about them ? Well, I do ! (Later, we know for Bobby -he’s in Heaven- and that’s all. The scenarists be like : “Charlie ? Who the Hell is Charlie ?!”) 

 - Dean who said “It’s ok.”. Spoilers : No. No it’s not ok Dean ! You don’t deserved that ! You deserved an happy live with Castiel on Earth or at least in Heaven. Did he have that ? Nope ! Because ... Well, I don’t actually know. Maybe because it was too gay for the screen. But hey, we exist and we're valid you moron !

 - Bobby said that John Winchester is in Heaven. Am I the only who think he didn’t deserve to be there ? Ok, he is not the worst father in the Universe ('coz be worst than Chuck is not so easy), but he is clearly one of the worst of this universe in my opinion. Maybe it’s just me and maybe I’ve lost an episode, but well, if a f*cking demon (Azazel) is better and more nice than him, maybe he didn’t deserve his place in Heaven, didn’t he ? 

- Not really negatives points but points who made me cry : “Sammy”, “I love you so much my baby brother”, “At least, it was always you and me” and the famous “it’s ok”. 

 - Also not a really negative point but when Sam... I mean Jared Padalecki made his little final speech (when he thank us all), am I the only one to yelling to my phone screen ? Like “LoL Sam what are U saying ? Put your ass in the Impala (Love U Baby) and go in a Family trip with your big bro (and maybe your mom ?) and let me cry because the show is ending.”. 

(Me, literally 30 secondes later : “Ok, let’s rewatched all the Trickster episodes because I need it. I DON’T CARE IT’S 2 F*CKING A.M., I DON’T NEED SLEEP, SLEEP IS FOR HUMANS AND I’M NOT, ‘COZ I’M A FANENBY AND I NEED SOME GABRIEL’S SASS ! It’s for... my personal... mental health...”).

To conclude my essay, I will say that maybe it was me who had too high expectations for this final episode, but I'm still disappointed with this ending. What do you think about this ?

More thoughts on my Tzimisce

Her name is Anastasia (aka “Nastasya”) Petrova Sokolova. She was Embraced in 1986, and stayed in New York for most of that, occasionally traveling. Being a descendent of Sascha Vykos, she was taught how to be an academic. Because of her sculpting skills in life (for which she was chosen), she is very, very good at Vicissitude.

Her appearance on the gender presentation scale is somewhere between androgynous and female-presenting. She is quite clearly female presenting, but there are masculine aspects to her physical appearance. Before 1999, people would hear about a feminine enby Tzimisce in New York and mistake her for Vykos, only to quickly realise how wrong they were when a shocked Nastasya started stuttering in horror at them.

After the Battle of 1999, Nastasya disappeared, resurfacing a year later. She is now posing as a Russian Gangrel named Laika Petrova. It was a bit risky, because she figured it’d be fucking obvious that if one enby Russian disappeared then people would be suspicious when another Russian enby showed up a year later, but so far nobody’s joined the dots, so she’s relaxed a bit.

She uses her identity as “Laika Petrova” in academic Kindred circles; folks say she’s going to either be the next Beckett or the next Vykos, they’re not quite sure which.

At first this gave her a heart attack -- it was obvious people were calling her the “next Beckett” because of the nerdy Gangrel thing, but why the next Vykos unless people knew?! Yeah, no, it turned out it was because 1) she’s an enby like Vykos, and 2) her Sabbat upbringing means she’s desensitised to a lot of horror, and therefore comes across as a lowkey psychopath sometimes. Still not at all the best thing to hear about oneself, but her identity is safe, for now.

So her Tzimisce name is Nastasya, and her Gangrel name is Laika.

She has corresponded with Beckett a couple of times, who naturally likes to taunt her about the whole “the next Beckett or Vykos” thing.

Sascha is dimly aware that there was an enby Tzimisce in New York because occasionally Sabbat would mix the two of them up. Sascha is also dimly aware that there’s now an enby “Gangrel“ in New York who showed up out of nowhere, and Sascha is probably the only person in the world who’s put two and two together there. Sascha is vaguely aware that “Laika Petrova” has asked questions about them and done a little research on them before, but has written it off as a Sabbat fanenby looking up their idol.

They don’t give a shit.

(They have no idea she’s one of their descendants. Even if they’d heard, I’m sure enough Tzimisce have claimed to be a descendant of the Angel of Caine that they wouldn’t give a shit then, either.)

Day 2: Roommates did not disappoint! Authors from AO3 and FFN delivered! The submissions for this day were brilliant (unsurprisingly)! We had roommate stories ranging from Wholesome G to Spicy M’s! Stories were filled with sweet sweet tension, a bit of drama here and there, sprinkles of angst, hilarity, cuteness, and a nice serving of smut. We saw a bar brawl and twice Hermione defended Fleur’s honor! We had Bambi’s and tenderness, risque cuddles, a scheming and mischievous Fleur, a few charming examples of a gentlewomanly, but overall useless lesbian Hermione, and then had bouillabaisse for supper! SU question, I don't want to stir anyone up but can anyone explain to me why or how they liked the end of the season 5 finale "Change Your Mind"?

Does no one else feel like White was rushed far too quickly and that everyone forgets the horrendous crimes she and her Diamonds committed? Like, as a metaphor for getting your old family to accept you it's OK, but as a metaphor for genocidal dictators (which is what they are) it was really bad surely?

I do feel like a crazy person cause everyone adores White Yellow and Blue still, and I get that their designs, aesthetics and roles as villains were cool but now they're... Big mums who've ended more lives than any human ever did but no one cares about that, in canon or in the fandom?

Like the show was honestly my favourite thing in the world for so many years, I was still a number 1 fanenby when the finale hit the screen but then... Steven said "no u" to white and all of our issues disappeared immidiately without ever delving into White's character, whilst redeeming and showing the diamonds in a more positive way than Kevin, a simple fuckboi, ever will ever get.

Who knows, maybe SU:Future will cover how Steven actually mind controlled White and that's why she Changed Her Mind TM so fast, tbh idk what the show can do to win me and people like me over, sigh, OK rant/question over

Gods honestly I think some of this is a remnant of “cringe culture” and “purity policing” or “fanpol” taken to a fucking extreme

To the point that geeking out and nerding and being a fanboy or a fangirl or a fanenby (is there a better word for that?) has gone away almost entirely and that’s gods damn heartbreaking.

Where being passionate and excited but not necessarily having a totally well thought out way to put your feelings is now being seen as “messy and embarrassing”

Like if you see something you like, yes you don’t have to add anything to it

But also, you can absolutely just add nonsense feral “omfggggg!!!!!!11” screeching to it because you like it so much.

And no that doesn’t have to be in the tags if you have a tagging system you’re trying to maintain either (tho may the gods help you if you do)

But like seriously, I think everyone’s terrified of being seen as annoying or embarrassing or weird, terrified of getting put in a call out post or getting doxxed or what the fuck ever.

People have started treating their online presence as though it’s, idk a career or something. Something they have to be demure and restrained about.

Idk what the fix is tbh… I honestly suffer from the same thing.

Half the reason I stopped reblogging so much and interacting with as many people as I used to on here was fandom purity bullshit.

I have some opinions people dislike and I got actually scared that I’d be on some call out post (tho tbh I’m probably on a call out post somewhere)

I just couldn’t find a good middle ground between wanting to be totally myself, unrestrained and geeky and a total dorky nerd

And being bullied by people who didn’t get it, who didn’t know me or care that I was a fucking person, who were our for blood and had dozens of people to back them up (or could make multiple bot accounts to send spam anon hate)

And back in the really good fandom days, one thing that made it worth it in my opinion was the camaraderie.

And that’s fucking gone now.

Back in like early 2010’s or whatever idk time isn’t real, if you shipped the same ship, you guys were bonded for fucking life.

Hell sometimes just being in the same fandom earned you that support.

There was so much less fandom infighting.

And mock SuperWhoLock all you want, but it wasn’t just a “lol peeps who are in one of those fandoms are usually in the other two fandoms hahaha thing”

No, when someone in the Sherlock fandom was getting hate or whatever, you could bet that the peeps in the Supernatural fandom and the peeps in the Doctor Who fandom would be there for them.

We would send each other kind messages, we would go message (or fanmail) other peeps in the same fandom or with similar ships who we had never spoken to and go “so and so is being bullied”

And we’d come together to drown out the hate.

Sometimes a person in a fandom/person with a specific ship getting hate would be like a catalyst for artists to create more for that fandom or ship.

We had people who kept the tags clean of negativity, people who would ask others to take their hate out of a ship tag.

People who kept ship wars in check, they were just funny little fun arguments, not the downright blood baths they’ve become (tjlc I am glaring at you so hard right now)

Fandom has died, is in its death throes, for a lot of reasons but a huge chunk of it is this mentality of “oh I don’t hate the ship they have or the fandom they’re in but I’m not going to support them because then I’ll get yelled at”

And fandom is like 85% of what made tumblr tick.

Hell, even the aesthetic blogs were a fandom in their own right.

And whether or not anyone knows what an aesthetic blog even is or not is up in the air too but kinda besides the point.

Like yes tumblr absolutely is the be weird be embarrassing annoy your friends website.

But as long as it’s not safe for us to do so, people won’t.

As long as it’s focused around saying one liners and getting the most notes and whatever, people aren’t going to reblog anything that could be seen as “cringy”

Making fandom spaces safe involves letting go of a lot of purity culture crap and looking into what is basically library science, or really just the motto:

Which is a much longer conversation than needs to be added to this post specifically but… yea

We can’t just ask people to geek out and let their freak flags fly when we don’t have the same infrastructure or commitment to also protecting them. 

If you want tumblr to stay alive or come back to life, reblogging things you like is the way to do it.

If you want people to reblog things they like… you have to make it safe and acceptable to do so. Or at least you have to have their backs when people get up in arms about it.

1. My puppers

I have five dogs and I love them all. They are my babies, my preciousness, my snuggle buddies. I dunno what I would do without them.

2. Nesting

There is nothing more relaxing and comfy than curling up in a mess of blankets pillows and stuffed animals and just chilling. It’s so relaxing and calming and warm and safe. It’s nice.

3. Yuri!!! on Ice

As cliche as it sounds, Yuri!!! on Ice is a big deal to me. It really helped pull me out of a dark place in my life and has been a comfort that I can turn to when I’m struggling. Plus it brought me into a community of amazing people and has helped me make some awesome mutuals and buddies like @yuuris-piano and @iwritebetterthanispeak . Even though its been almost a year since I first watch the anime, I am still squealing over everything about it. 

4. The Royal Tutor

I’ve been on a binge of this recently and WHY THE FRICK IS TH FANDOM SO SMALL?!?!?! like serious this is one of the best animes &manga series ever in my humble opinion and it literally has little fanfics, fanart, and the fandom is tiny. Like what the fuck? Yall, go watch The Royal Tutor. We need people to protect these precious bois. From Heine’s sarcastic ass to Licht’s love of a small cafe to Kai’s beautiful obsession with soft things, we need to protect these precious babies!!!

5. Music

I love music and listen to it 24/7. From classical to pop to punk to jazz, I’m here for it all. I’m currently listening to 5sos’ new song Want You Back on a loop right now and I also am still jamming out to You Only Live Once by Whatano. But if ya’ll have music recs for me, send them to me. I need more music to fanenby over.
