Pokemon Moon Emerald First Team
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A fun and casual fun with decent gym leader and elite four fights. I played the version with a highly raised shiny rate and got a lot of shinies. This game has a massive pokedex but is mainly focused around Alola pokemon and has a similar 'difficulty' level to mainline pokemon games. The sole exception are the gym leaders, victory road and pokemon league which have much larger teams with higher levels and good movepools giving you good boss fights that are sadly out phase with the mainline level curve. Norman was a massive spike while Winonas team was around the same level as him.
Still, this is a fun hack. Team below:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Argent, a bashfull shiny Tsareena with chlorophyll. She was caught in Petalburg woods as Bounsweet and was weak. After getting crushed to Roxanne I trained her up until she evolved, taught her the bullet seed tm and she swept the now under-leveled Roxanne and did the same to Brawly. She became my in story starter and despite never learning a better physical grass move her miracle seed powered bullet seed combined with return for coverage made her a dependable great early game mon who was still fine in the late game, taking down Wallaces Milotic single handidly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ivanka, a naive Gumshooes with runaway. She was my first official pokemon, caught as a yungoose with pick up. She was not useful against Roxanne and Brawly due to type match ups. She then became a solid team mate, hitting extremely hard while being not too slow and not too frail. She pulled her weight the entire game and sadly only learned extreme speed at the very end.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jemina, a naive Alolan Golem with Rock Head. She was caught as an Alolan Geodude in Granite Cave and sadly was incompatible with the Wild Charge Tm in all stages and didn't a rock recoil move. She was a good mon, tanking physical hits like a champ and having a great offensive movepool.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Firecream, docile salazzle with flash fire. She was caught in Firey Pass, and due to knowing dragon rage was horribly overpowered for that stage of the game. She was the teams fastest mon and it's only special attacker, giving her a vital niche as a revenge killer with a great fire stab and massive tm movepool. She was vital to defeating the fairy champion Wallace by nasty plot sweeping most of his team.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Meet Doctor Chomp,a Quiet Shiny Bruxish with Water Viel caught on the old rod on route 114. He was great in the midgame with a good typing against flannery and getting surf as a good water move. He fill off abit in the second half of the game until he learned psychic fang for coverage the early 40s and got a good physical water move. As a fast attacker with a priority move he was a great revenge killer.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Earth's End, an adamant Kommo-o with Soundproof. Caught in his first form on route 123 where he was initially very weak and even after evolving still feel behind in the late game before evolving a second time in victory road. With great stats and the ability to setup sweep with dragon dance he carried the team through the elite four despite being terrible against the champion.

My entry for the 2024 Bokumono Exchange Summer @bokumonoexchange
My giftee was @tinseltina. I really hope you like it 💚 I love how it turned out.
I now have the headcanon that Gustafa brews his own herbal teas, which he shares with the farmer when they come to visit. (I also think Jennifer from Mineral Town probably comes to visit Gustafa and drink tea with him every now and then.)
Huge thank you to Mod Flik for organising this event, and for everyone who took part
Some insight on the work under the cut:
Among their potential requests, tinseltina asked for original design Gustafa with the farmer, and the theme 'tea parties'.
I actually went into the remake and used the in-game camera tool to get a photo of the correct angle of the inside of Gustafa's yurt to use for reference. I did think about trying to use the colours and patterns from the original game, but finding a screenshot with nice, bright colours I could pull from proved tricky.
The sliced fruit are peaches, since that's a top gift for Gustafa, and the colour scheme matched the flowers in his vase really nicely.
I also used a reference for Gustafa's hand pouring the teapot.
The dog got added to fill empty space 😅

Pokemon Moon Emerald Second Playthrough
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hot on the heels of my first playthroughts of Unova Red and Kalos Crystal, I decided to replay Moon Emerald.
This was a mistake.
Moon Emerald does not work as a sequel/entry to the Unova Red and Kalos Crystal. There are a ton of gens one to four pokemon found in it and the gameplay was of lesser quality. Team Aqua using Mukrow and Stunky as signature pokemon was immersion breaking, when Alolan Rattata and Alolan Meowth were right there. The 0.9 number for the game was indeed accurate, and it was also glitchy with laggy moves and froze once, while the gym leaders were to strong in relation to the rest of the games level curve and poorly designed.
Flannery for example did not use a Turtonator. She instead opens with her strongest pokemon, a level 30 Magmar which knows Fire Blast, Earthquake and Thunderpunch. This is in a game which otherwise has the same level and difficulty curve as regular emerald. Her next strongest pokemon is a level 28 Fire Blast using Arcanine. She still has a Torkoal but the rest of her full team are a punch of lnonfully evolved pokemon at the expected level curve who are easily dispatched. She still hands out the Overheat TM, despite having her standard move be Fire Blast. The fight is terribly designed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Gym Leaders, Victory Road and Elite Four/Champion fights were a fun challenge needing multiple tries each, but they made the rest of game feel overly easy since the difficulty levels don't match.
The comparison to Unova Red and Kalos Crystal made the game feel worse. As did several of my teammates not matching my expectations. (Toxapex dealing terrible damage, Rock Head Tyrantrum not learning Head Smash on time/at all, Pallosand losing water abosrb, Alolan Ninetails not getting moonblast and only getting Dazzling Gleam via level up.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My first permanent team member, Maximus a lax levivating Vikavolt I caught as a Grubbin at the start of the game. I also wanted a Shiny Vikavolt because it looks great. Maximus's good early movepool made it decent pretty soon and I kept Crunch and Acrobatics due to lack of better special options. Reaching his final form post Norman, his high power electric and bug special moves were great against Winona, Juan and Grimsley.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Grimalda the Bewear, caught as a brave Stufful in Rosturf Tunnel. I have never used this line before, and it's available early this game. Did great early on, even if bad against Brawley, and the first team member to reach his final form. She hit hard and was relatively fast, and her gut's ability came in useful several times. She was a solid reliable teammate.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Barbara, a Limber Topapex caught with an old rod at Slateport as a Hardy Mareanie. I had never used this line before, and wanted to give it a try. Great at taking hits, but hard problems with both learning good attacking movies and later low attack stats. Not useful against Watson, Flannery due to not having a water move, and decent against Norman. With Surf and a Leftover I stole off Norman using Maximus's Bige Bite, became better but still took so long to evolve and even then not good at dealing damage. The sheer power of strong trainers meant she could rarely set up spikes and the existence of full restores made Toxic Venoshock a poor strategy. Even against Champion Wallace, a fairy user, she struggled due to his love of psychic moves and full restores. Finally, with the aid of healing items she Toxic Stalled his Water/Fairy Milotic and allowed me to revive and heal up the rest of my team.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Isabelle, the Relaxed Pallosand caught before Watson. I have never used this line before, really liked this lines Shiny form, and after finding out this line has Water Absorb in this game during the previous playthrough I was really excited to use one. So I hunted a Shiny One with Water Absorb, only for it evolve late game and change abilties to Sand Viel post evolution. As a Sandyghast she had a ton of immunities, and while she started out with a terrible movepool she steadily improved as she learned more abilties throughout the game. Her Slow speed, Losing Water Absorb before Juan and going up against Dark and Ghost elite four members made her vulnerable and short lived, but she hit hard and her hypnosis proved vital to beating Drake's Dragon Dancing Kommo-o.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anastasia, the Modest Alolan Ninetails with Inner Focus, caught as a Vulpix post-Watson. I always wanted to use an A-Ninetails, and she was a non-pregen5 pokemon that avoided tripling up on weaknesses. She was my teams fastest member, and was very good at sniping off weakened mons or taking advantage of ice and fairy coverage. She was great against Winona, the ground using new third elite four member, and was vital against Drake, outspeeding and OHKOing his opening Mega Garchomp and devastating much of his team.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tyra, my calm shiny rock head tyrantrum revived from a fossil after flannery. I always wanted to use a Shiny Tyrantrum and wanted to use one that could take advantage of Rock Head. Sadly does not learn anything to take advantage of said ability during the playthrought. Tyre hit fairly hard and fairly fast, and had great offensive coverage. She was a consistently good team player, being my teams second fastest pokemon and second physical based attacker, she filled several wholes. Given a King's Rock for thematic reasons, but provided vital to beating Normans opening Alolan Ninetails by giving her a focus band and reseting until it triggered and she OHKOed said Ninetails using Iron Tail.

Did some note pages for my Joker boys.
Joker of Night
Moon
Tumblr media
Moon’s made entirely of porcelain
He’s from Porcelain City (the people from there are known as Pearlers) ((pulled from Pearlware which is a refined earthenware))
The ribbons and bells he added himself when he started working for the White Queen (White Queen like chess queen) - (materials and colors form outside the city are frowned. Upon by Pearlers but Moon wanted to add some color and whimsy to his outfit when he left his walled home)
Pearlers can be easily cracked and broken but Moon has only sustained one crack despite his adventures. (He’s developed a careful, graceful style of movement to avoid injury)
When a Pearlers is broken, they are repaired with a gold lacquer ( like the Japanese technique kintsugi )
Most Pearlers live around 500 years but there are a few that have lived longer
There is a stone inside their chests that give them life - eventually it will run out of energy and the Pearler will die - removal of the stone also results in death
_/|\_\|/_/|\_
Joker of Light
Sun
Tumblr media
Sun is made entirely of candy
He is from the Town of Sweets ( the people from there are known as Bonbons)
Sun’s hands and arms are made from taffy with rock candy ‘bones’ for stability
Sun’s rays are a soft orange slice candy
The ruffle around his neck is made from hard candies of several different flavors
The clothes are made from a sugarcane fabric - edible but acts like a normal fabric
Sun’s left leg is actually a prosthetic of sorts. - this new Lilly pop leg was melted on to replace the one he lost. (Jabberwock ate it) ((this new leg is stiff and gives him trouble sometimes))
Bonbons can be made from all sorts of candy but they are never sticky. (Could you imagine how horrible that could end up?) ((no sticky. Because magic ((also because I said so))))
Bonbons are edibles but please don’t eat them - they may be candy but they do still feel pain
Just like the Pearlers, Bonbons live around 500 years but some have lived longer.
There is a stone in their chests just like the Pearlers that gives them life - when the energy runs out they die - removing the stone also results in death
I think I’m going to call this the Jokers of Emeralds Au

Yknow, it took a very long time for me to realise what the title of pokemon x y (and z) meant bc up until then they were all pretty solid counterparts. Red, blue and yellow, the primary colours. Gold, silver and crystal, the luxurious. Ruby, sapphire and emerald, not only precious gems but the rgb colours (and just colour matching the legendaries too). Diamond (the classic ‘most valuable’ stone), pearl (the classic ‘most valuable’ biological ‘stone’), and platinum (the classic ‘most valuable’ metal). Black and white.
After x and y we of course had sun and moon, sword and shield and finally scarlet and violet (infrared and ultraviolet, the two ends of the colour spectrum. The only reason they wouldn’t have called it pokemon infrared and ultraviolet is bc pokemon red already exists and ppl would think it was a gen 1 remake, and ultra sun/moon also already exists).
But back when x and y came around, and I thought ‘it’s just letters, I know that the legendaries sort of look like them but if it’s opposites then shouldn’t it be a and z?’ (Cool how they brought that back with legends z-a)
And it took me way too fucking long to realise that x y and z are the three digital planes to symbolise Pokémon’s first mainline 3D game. Idk I just thought that was neat.
