my favorite story to this day related to the moomins was when me and my roommate lived in the same room and i was scrolling twitter, and i said ''theres a paw patrol critical twitter (account)" and my roommate looked up and said ''papatroll? like from moomins?"

hello fellow groke warriors. I'm gonna make a groke costume this halloween, except I am in fact a college student so I am really just making a cool hat and a detachable collar and spray painting a goodwill lantern black but yeah I'm sure my beloved groke will understand and visit me in my dreams.

According to the canon of moomin comics, pornography is implied to exist in the moomins universe, which is revealed in a gag where it turns out that Moominpappa does not know what a nameless side character means by saying (I paraphrase from memory) "pictures of dames, if you know what I mean". Moominpappa, however, has a biological son. Since no other possibility is really elaborated, it's sensible to assume that moomins reproduce like mammals do. So therefore, canonically, this guy fucks. He once got so drunk at a party that he danced on a table, with his wife and kid right there. And he doesn't know what porn is.

Also I think he committed accidental manslaughter once.

Do tell me if there is an actual answer to this because I couldn't find such a thing myself or atleast stumble across it like I did with other characters but I do really wonder where Snorkmaiden's character came from.

In a world where much of the cast came from inspiration drawn upon Tove's own life, particular family or partners or memories (Signe is Moominmamma, Viktor is Moominpappa, Tove is vaguely Moomintroll, Atos is both Muskrat and Snufkin [and apparently Lars is Snufkin too?], Tove and Vivica are Thingumy and Bob, Tuulikki is Too-Ticky, Muddler is inspired by Tove's memories of playing with her aunt's buttons, Joxter and the Silk-Monkey are based on Tove's cat) Snorkmaiden feels like a very strange outlier amid all of this despite being an important character in the books and a core family member in the comics.

I suppose Sniff's lack of clear inspiration is something I wonder about too but Snorkmaiden grew into something more nuanced as Sniff became pushed into the background as the original series went on (in the comics), she feels she should be someone or something in Tove's life but I can't tell who or what.

I was in the midst of doing a book report on this realist-era novel called Madame Bovary and I discovered how similar the titular Emma Bovary is to Snorkmaiden's comic characterization; A woman who was bound by the small mundanity of her real life that so contradict her romantic idealism which she absorbed from books, becoming so wretchedly displeased and bored of her milk-toast and simple-minded first love and husband (who married her mostly because of her beauty and a forbidden infatuation and not really anything else) that she can't help but chase after men who she finds more stimulating and exciting and rich, constantly yearning for the romance of the upper class and growing resentful of the quant country life she's made to live in and so she spends lavishly, creating a devastating dept that would ultimately pull her hand to a painful suicide (well, maybe not that last part, but still). And there are arguable parallels between Moominpappa and Emma's husband's father, as he was surprisingly similar to Emma in his lavish spending and scorned his son for how boring he is.

Of course, it isn't a one-to-one comparison persé due to the personal circumstances of their characters, but the strong parallels that Snorkmaiden grew into as a character in the comics is still incredibly striking. It makes me believe she was merely a female love interest tacked on for the male protagonist - simply because that's how adventure stories usually go - who grew into a satire of such a trope, a character confounded by a Bovarism and romantic excitement she wants to relive again and again when things become too stale for her.

But, of course, this is just a theory based on a thought I had while trying to do a book report for my language studies class, I could be completely completely wrong and the answer is that she's based on some other girlfriend Tove had, who knows.

I loved the moomin books as a kid! I have such vague memories of the stories though I couldn’t say which was my favorite. Which one is your favorite?

my usual answer is moominpappa at sea, but i would need to reread because its been a while, to double-check. i read them chronologically from the moomins and the great flood -> moominvalley in november. i do rly like moominpappa at sea though, it's got the groke in it a lot and i like her. moominvalley midwinter has too-ticky and i like her. comet in moominland is just rly cool and interesting, have an old copy that belongs to my mum (and of a couple other of the books).. i dont remember the others' plots super well. but i remember moominsummer bc theres the flood and they run from the cops lol. and also tales from moominvalley because it has the story about the little dragon and snufkin and moomintroll catching it because it was a book my parents gave us when i was like 4 so we got read that story from it a lot bc its the first one in the book. we also read who will comfort toffle? and the one about finding little my a lot. . i love who will comfort toffle

Comet in Moominland -- 1946 -- included the first appearances of many characters including Snufkin and Snorkmaiden.

Finn Family Moomintroll -- 1948 -- a small collection of various stories, including small blurbs for each character.

The Exploits of Moominpappa -- 1950 (revised later in 1968 and renamed "Moominpappa's Memoirs") -- tales of Moominpappa's youth, when he was still called Moomintroll. Includes new characters such as the Joxter (Snufkin's father) Hodgkin, and the Muddler (Sniff's father)

The Book about Moomin, Mymble and Little My -- 1952 -- Ngl I don't know much about this book other than the fact Mymble and Little My are sisters

Moominsummer Madness -- 1954 -- infuriatingly close to romance between Snufkin and Moomin during a prison break. Pretty sure Snufkin's iconic line "let's go fill Moominvalley with crime" is in the 90s anime adaptation of this book. Something to do with a failing theatre but it's kind of overshadowed by Snufkin's and Moomin's pining./hj (Please they're so gay it hurts)

Moominland Midwinter -- 1957 -- Moomintroll wakes up from hibernation (yes they hibernate) and is unable to go back to sleep. Too-ticky (white and red striped sweater, if you wanna look 'em up) helps him through it.

Who Will Comfort Toffle? -- 1960 -- Toffle leaves his home to try and find friends (he's a lonely lil' guy. Wet cat vibes.) And ends up rescuing Miffle (another character, doesn't appear much) from The Groke

Tales from Moominvalley -- 1962 -- a collection of short stories

Moominpappa at Sea -- 1965 -- The Moomins basically move away to an island, along with Little My and The Groke. It's. Really sad actually.

Moominvalley in November -- 1970/71 -- last official book, it's basically all the characters trying to find out what happened to the Moomin family, as they found their home abandoned. Also I keep forgetting to mention Fillyjonk. Everyone say hi to Fillyjonk, the Moomins' neighbor. I probably won't speak of her again. Anyways, the book ends with them not fully finding out what happened.

The Dangerous Journey -- 1977 -- last book written by Tove before her death, it follows a human that accidentally got into Moominvalley. Happy ending, though.

Damn that's alot of books- I feel like if I had these as a kid I wouldve re-read them so many times they'd be committed to memory and probably had my own self insert oc to imagine going on adventures with them

"Memories of Moominpappa" released on Friday, December 29 This is a completely new puppet animation produced in Finland, based on the novel "Memories of Moominpappa" by Tove Jansson. The encounters and friendships with unique friends such as the parents of Sniff, Snufkin and Little My will be drawn. In addition, it is a must-see work for fans who can learn about the unknown past of Moomin characters, such as the beginning of friendship between Moominpappa and Moominmamma.

The November Hemulen

Part of the main cast of the book Moominvalley in November, he is a man whose job was to tell people how to improve their lives, but due to the lack of motivation from his clients he himself became depressed and longed for the hazy summer memory of Moominvalley and his friendship with Moominpappa whom he barely remembers. He has an interest in boats but never sailed one until the end of the book, and his specialty is organizing events and tasks among people, though this aspect of him gets criticized for being bossy. He tries his best to prepare Moominhouse for the Moomins' arrival and build a treehouse for Moominpappa, but alas, all things return to the same state.

The Hemulen Who Loved Silence

The main character of a chapter of Tales From Moominvalley, he lived in a noisy family who ran an even noisier pleasure-ground. After a weeks-long flood washing the pleasure-ground away and his family coming up with the idea of opening an ice rink, he had enough and declared that he wants a pension and move out somewhere quiet. He also says his dream is to build a dollhouse but gets laughed out of wanting it anymore. After he moves to his grandmother's abandoned park, he is made by the children to rebuild the pleasure-ground with the parts they recovered. In the end, he opens a park of silence where there is no screaming or loud laughing, and much to his relief the children still enjoy it.

Days of Giving also started. Which only means that treasure candles, seasons candles and heart gifts get doubles. But I will be sending everyone in my constellation gifts! ^^

Anyway, last Moomin quest!

A quick trip to the beach to get the boat on shore for upcoming winter.

Moominpappa felt like pulling a prank on Moominmamma but Ninny stopped him.

And with that she felt like she fully belonged to the family. And all the color around her returned.

And she turned fully visible again!

But I'm not gonna show how she looks like. Play the season yourself. >:3c

Oh yeah, and final sidequest. Ever wanted to feel all-powerful? Here is your chance! ^^

The game ends with a thank you and credits. Nice of them to appreciate the player like this.

And the last items on the top of the quest tree. The outfit is like the default moth outfit but your limbs and head are transparent. Actually a really nice effect. Probably there if you want to cosplay invisible Ninny.

And lastly the framed picture. A nice memory of the last scene. ^^

And that's Season of Moomin. Genuinely such an adorable story. Seeing Ninny slowly warm up and see the workd with more color. Such a joy! ^^

3. Probably the first fanart I ever did was Esmeralda from Hunchback of Notre Dame. She stands among huge golden bells. Needless to say this movie changed me and Hellfire is like a core memory for me. You have no idea how fucking obsessed I am about that song. I could ramble about it for hours.

The Hobgoblin then asked for the next people in line for their wishes. He indeed kept his word on Sniff's boat, and Sniff marveled at its glamour (though he didn't have much plans in the ways of actually sailing it, so they kept it in the cave for safe-keeping)

Okay to get this crucial information out of the way; (Disney animated) Cinderella Snufmin AU, Cinderella is Snufkin, Prince Charming is Moomintroll, the king is Moominpappa, Grand Duke is Mr. Hemulen, Fairy Godmother is the Witch, the mice are Mymble's kids but teeny tiny, Bruno might be Sorry-oo and Lucifer can be uhm... The cat from that one comic where Pimple gets into a gay relationship with another dog. Lady Tremaine and her daughters though, the funny part, they're gonna be the Muddler and his kids (Anastasia is Sniff and Drizella is Fuddler), Muddler remarried to Joxter and then Joxter died (making Juddler also canon in this AU).

Now, this isn't gonna be about that, we all know how those little ding dongs fall in love, every Moomin fanfiction writer has read atleast a couple Snufmins and knows how it'll play out.

The main story I'm here to talk about is actually based on the third Disney Cinderella movie, the one with the step family stealing Godmother's wand and abusing its power to get their version of the happy ending.

Things go as the movie goes, Sniff and Fuddler are having a miserable time being left behind by Snufkin and doing all of his dirty work, Sniff finds Snufkin and Moomintroll going into the nearby forest, he follows them, accidentally turns the Witch into stone and steals her magic thingy (doesn't have to a wand but let's say it is), takes it to his family, Muddler uses it to go back in time to the shoe fitting moment where Sniff is trying on the glass... Slipper? Boot? Whatever footwear Snufkin would've worn to the ball. Muddler makes it so the shoe magically fits, they're taken to the castle, Muddler messes with Moomintroll's memories to make him think the partner of his dreams was Sniff and blah blah Snufkin tries to reclaim his rightful happy ending by going to the castle, Moominpappa is trying to be as welcoming to Sniff as he can, Moomintroll gets his regular memories back thanks to the Mymbles, Muddler panics and makes Sniff look like Snufkin for the wedding, real Snufkin gets stuffed into a terrible pumpkin carriage with the cat as the carriage rider, stuff happens, our heroes stop the wedding, there's a climax, Muddler and Fuddler get punished while Sniff gets a compromise of a happy ending while Moomintroll and Snufkin get their real happy ending the end Sniff ends up with a potato sack full of money that Moominpappa made as a fencing dumby.

The main thing is that I want the step family to still be hilariously in character the whole time, they're not evil here, no no, they're just up in their own bubbles of social anxiety. Muddler lost both his spouses and he's desperate for his kids to have a future, Fuddler is oblivious and clumsy and trying to follow along with his dad's plan, Sniff is half-unwilling to go with anything but he doesn't want to disappoint. Everything that Muddler does with the wand after the time travel idea (which was like an "Oh wouldn't hurt to try, would it...?" moment of selfishness) was done in a fit of absolute panic and he is on the verge of a mental breakdown the whole time racked with guilt and a major fear of getting caught somehow. Fuddler is somewhat enjoying being in a castle because he's a little too oblivious to catch up with his dad's panic over the whole thing.

I want this to be as funny if not more funny than the original movie, the movie was already amazing (don't @ me) and it's about time there was an AU that focused of Sniff and his family, alright? Like, this is just too ingenious to pass up.

Also everyone who wore dresses in the movie are still wearing dresses.
