You said -> I could be talking about music for HOURS so feel free to ask me more about music :D -> which unlocked multiple questions, but mostly i noticed you like very specific genres, would you like to tells us more about them? some ideas: what is french downtempo? can you reccommend more hip hop electro jazz? how did you even discover european shoegaze?

OMG I could really talk for hours and I can tell you that I literally squealed when I saw the ask. I am sick on top of everything so be ready for some feverish rambling!! First let me preface this by saying that I personally don't like classifying music by genre because that's rubbish and limiting. I like my music when the artist is putting their everything in it and if I feel a connection to it. As such, I admit that some of the things I listen to can be considered bad quality but I see the potential in there so I'll still listen to over-saturated music. It's the intend, you know? xD

Now, with that in mind, I'll try to respond to the questions but as I said, I have a loose definition of genre, I might not agree with the official name associated with the artists so it's more a question of vibe I guess? BARE WITH ME :D

What is french downtempo? It's basically the same as 'normal' downtempo but somehow the French scene is very active and thriving and a lot of world known artist in this genre are actually French :D (looking at you Lofi Girl).

I call it downtempo but technically it's more Lofi / HipHop / Electronic Music / Jazz and I LOVE this genre. I noticed that French artist tend to mix a lot of genre in their songs and use real instruments while recording. You have som many talented French artist in this genre such as Degiheugi, In Love with a Ghost, FKJ, Hugo Kant, ...

Can you recommend more hip hop electro jazz?

Of course!!! Already some of the artists I mentioned above are within this style but you also have Fat Jon, Shing02 and B-ahwe.

Fun fact, I first discovered this genre at 15 whilst visiting a museum with my school and a friend gave me a USB stick with some random music they downloaded and I fell in love with Nujabes. I felt like discovering new world and I never stopped feeling this way when I listen to this genre.

How did you even discover european shoegaze?

I've put European Shoegaze because the band Daughter is composed of Elena Tonra (UK), Igor Haefeli (Swiss) and Remi Aguilella (French), so it's quite a European mix. I discovered them randomly on YouTube with their single Youth in the early 2010's, when I didn't have any money for music subscription and was just letting the Youtube algorithm drift. I deeply felt a connection with their music and started to listen to it all the time. (also I was deep in the Cherik fandom at the time and I still strongly believe their single Medecine is soooo fitting for those two idiots in X-Men: Days of Future Past)

In general the whole music movement of Shoegaze is quite European since it started within Ireland and England. I love this genre and it's quite technical to play since it relies a lot on effects and build-up. Fun fact, the name comes from the fact that artists were spending the whole concert looking at the pedals on the floor and as such, gazing their shoes... I really recommend going to a concert to get the full effect, you feel your whole body gets into the music with the rest of the audience and it's really special moments.

I noticed you like very specific genres, would you like to tells us more about them?

I guess we'll start with Rap / Hip Hop since I listen to quite a lot of it those past few months. I used to only listen to Hip Hop and have strong opinion on rap (see Think Different by Nujabes and Substantial). I've recently changed my mind when I stopped limiting it to USA and French Rap :') and started to listen to UK rap. Not that the lyrics are always better but they are usually more self deprecative and I love myself a funny looser... In general I noticed they are way more self aware on their problematic behaviours and it has a sincerity that is rare so I appreciate and resonate with it :) A few artists that I've had on repeat for the past couple of months:

Frankie Stew & Harvey Gunn (Really like their stuff, quite versatile on top of it so it' speaks to me's my jam)

Chase and Status ( ok technically it's Drum and Bass but this is too good not to be included)

Lausse the Cat (his only EP is fantastic, I don't know if it's the story telling, the music tracks, or just the Belle Bouteille at the end but it's perfect when you feel good in a bad situation...)

Kofi Stone (this one is a hit or miss for me but he has some really good stuff)

Nix Northwest (good music, good vibes, I like it even more when he collabs)

Mention to other artists that are not from the UK:

Denise Chaila (Irish-Zambian, I quite like her flow and her wit. I don't usually listen to female singer, I don't know why, I just like it less for some reason)

Fauve (Technically it's French spoken word, which is different from American spoken word. I used to listen to them a lot when I was a teenager and I still resonate with their songs, their lyrics are really powerful.)

Funnily enough, my favourite genre of music did not appear in the challenge, and its... drum roll... Post Punk (all time period). And I swear the "all time period" is so fucking important with Post Punk since the thing is so broad and keeps changing with time.

The movement started in the late 70's UK with a more somber approach of Punk (which is more aggressive in general) but not depressing like grunge, almost merging with Goth music at times. It got a bit of an empty period by progressively got more commercial / pop like in the 80's. There were a small come back in the early 2000s and finally got a full come back in the 2020's and I'm living for it!!!

Some of my favourites are (all period mixed):

The Cure (I still love those electrocuted old rats and A Forest is still a masterpiece... )

Yard Act (New gen Post-punk band, their first album is hilarious)

The Clockworks (I discovered them because they played in a room of 10 people in my country before they signed to a Label and they were so good!! I somehow don't really like how they mixed their album but they were still fantastic when I saw them again recently and their pre-album stuff is so good!!)

Péniche (super talented small French Band, discovered them because they played in my country and I LOVED them)

Joy Division (I didn't like it when I was younger but I really enjoy the depth of their music now)

The Wombats (is it post-punk? what is post-punk? I don't know but I still like what they do)

Bauhaus (is it post-punk? is it Goth? who knows at this point...)

Sisters of Mercy (again, is it post-punk or Goth? We may never know... ok it's technically Goth... but as I said earlier, I don't care xD)

The B-52's (if only for the Rock Lobster, I swear I cannot stay sad when listening to this song ! ROCK LOOBSTAAAR :D)

I also listen to a lot of Punk, which I see more as political music rather than a specific style of music (again see preface), so it can be in any shape you want. A short selection of artist I listen to a lot

Fat Dog (OMG they are sooo good live but be ready to live a religious experience. Saying that, they now have released things are starting to do bigger room so I'm curious to see how it affect the experience...)

Rage Against the Machine (love their sound, love their lyrics, just a bit sad that it's still relevant)

Bob Vylan (Independent artist that are disrupting the UK music scene and I love how unapologetic they are, I need to see them live one day!!)

Hyphen (bangers after bangers on UK politics, he's stepping back from making music for his mental health but his released singles are so good!!)

Benefits (I listened to this randomly one evening and I didn't save it. When I say I thought of it for days is an understatement ahah I finally found it back and I LOVE the raw anger)

Zebda (again I know! are they punk? well, they are talking the French hypocrisy on racism so that's enough for me ahah The music I linked is based on a public statement from Jacque Chirac, French president 95-07 accusing immigrants of abusing social benefits, having 3 wives and 20 kids, saying that on top of that, you need to add "the noise and the smell" of immigrants........)

Tryo (Same as Zebda, are they punk? I don't care :D I love them)

Joey Valence & Brae (is it punk or just two idiots making music ? I don't know tbh ahah sounds a bit like the Beastie Boys)

Finally, how do I listen to music?

I almost never listen to just one song, since I usually listen to full albums in one sittings. I believe it's important to have the whole intent of the artist and not just one side of the story they are telling. I started to do this a few years ago when I challenged myself to listen to one album per day. The thing completely changed my way of consuming music and now I will always favour full albums on 'physical media' (vinyl, cassette, CD, ...).

My only exception is when I discover new music, where I'll usually start with one song I know and like, and then I let Apple Music or Youtube do it's magic and I just listen to new things. If I like one, I keep it for later and then dig on the band :D This is one of my favourite passtime aside from writing :)

My favourite will always be to listen to live music. Go to your local concert venue, the smaller the better and discover new artists. SUPPORT ARTISTS PLEASE !!! I swear concert are my bread and butter. You'll find me, 1m50 high, moshing with people at the front and having the time of my life!! :D

In general, you may have noticed that I love a funny / chaotic music on angry topics ahah My friends often say I'm like Jessica Rabbit with her 'he makes me laugh'... :D

Positive Things about Guardian as a series (spoilers)

So I’ve been pretty harsh about the production team behind Guardian (writers, directors, set designers, wardrobe, the crew…including the extras…basically anyone who are not Bai Yu, Zhu Yilong, the actors who played Old Chu, Little Guo and Zhu Hong, who are Jiang Ming Yang, Xin Peng and  Gao Yu Er, respectively) and about the quality of the show as a whole when it doesn’t involve our main characters/leads, and I’ve actually been feeling bad about that now that the initial sense of shock has worn off a little. As a result, I woke up this morning and decided to make a list of all things that are GOOD about the show. Now, I am still hurting about how it ended and the things that went wrong which imho could have easily NOT (f.e. the 10,000 years dirt nap), but…BUT I will try my best NOT to let that negativity seep into this. 

So here goes, in no particular order, the positive things about the show:

- the show even exists. I mean, really, God bless, especially considering where it’s made. How did that even happen?? Despite all my bitching, I still marvel (almost DAILY so far) at the fact that Guardian exists and I got to watch it cuz China could’ve easily never put it back online. 

- the existence of Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan. But that’s pretty much a given. Especially since my life is forever changed because of them.

- every Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan scene together. That’s a given also. I would not be surprised if the writers literally used all their meager talent and energy on constructing those moments so that’s why they didn’t have much juice left for everything else. I mean, that’s a good thing, right? Kinda.

- they got Bai Yu and Zhu Yilong to play Zhao Yunlan and Shen Wei. I really hope the two actors got compensated well for their performances, though somehow I doubt it, especially since, from what I understand ZYL (omg I just stupidly realized the acronym for his name is the same as Zhao Yunlan’s. Wtf that is so cute!) was still very slowly rising in the ranks. But hopefully their current popularity as a result of the show has made up for it.

- the score and songs. Bought the OST from iTunes like one or two episodes in, loved the score and themes. I even bought Bai Yu and Zhu Yilong’s duet “Time of Flight” a few times (different platforms, different devices) cuz I just wanted to contribute to them…even though…who knows if they even see a cent from it, and pretty sure my few measly dollars probably isn’t helping anything. Probably just makes me seem stupid and insane. 

- the cute episode titles. Which I wasn’t even aware of until @avenuex123 pointed it out. Adorable.

- the censorship. Ok, censorship is never good imo, but in this singular case, perhaps because there were existing restrictions on the BL subject matter, the actors therefore were willing to sign on since they knew they didn’t have to do anything explicit (or maybe they would’ve been willing, this is just my own stupid assumption because of how Chinese society is…I say that as an Asian American with many…erm…”old-fashioned” friends and family members) AND they probably saw it as challenge to find creative ways to convey the nature of the characters while working within the confines of censorship laws. Although, this might be a case of me just trying to look on the bright side.

- the easter eggs. I agree with fellow Guardian fans who have pointed out that there was some love put into the making of this show, which is clearly exemplified in the small momentos scattered throughout the series. 

- the time travel concept. Not that the delve into the past was done well because I did have problems with it, but I did really appreciate the fact that Zhao Yunlan was the one and only all along due to his being sucked up into the wormhole and spit back out 10,000 years in the past to meet Shen Wei for the first time. I thought it was a tremendously romantic idea…even if the general execution of the past left a lot to be desired. I promised that I wouldn’t be negative, but I still have to say that while love at first sight is a lovely notion, it was still a bit hard to swallow that SW would fall SOOOO head over heels with ZYL after just conversing with him for like a few hours, to the point that he would pine for him for 10,000 years (though it’s probably technically more like a few decades due to his dirt nap, but I’ll buy it felt like 10K years to him). I just wish ZYL spent more time in the past with SW, and actually @xparrot‘s fic (”Now Lie In It" on AO3) made me feel a LOT better about the whole thing since they successfully fixed the problem by awesomely separating each scene we saw into days and years. But I did like the time travel idea; it was cool, even though it’s different from the novel.

- the nature of the necklace. I really liked the candy wrapper core. Broke my heart into bits and pieces in a GOOD way. Really loved everything about it. I understand it’s different in the novel as well, but in the context of the changes done for the show, I thought that was a pretty brilliant move. 

-  the Da Qing and ZYL ownership scene in episode 35 with SW listening. Loved that scene and the multiple purposes it was serving: establishing Da Qing’s relationship with ZYL, giving voice to how SW was feeling about ZYL leaving,   inspiring SW with the necklace idea, and then of course, the censorship workaround because it was like very homo while being nohomo at the same time. 

- SW and ZYL’s wardrobe. Probably a given since the fact that I love them means I love everything about them, but, like, SW even looked good as the Black Cloak Envoy and ZYL as Kunlun and those outfits (and their hairstyles) could’ve gone wrong so easily…thank God no one thought it was a good idea to make them wear a stupid looking afro wig or feathers on their heads.

- Old Chu/Little Guo. They were adorable, my second OTP from the show, and I was seriously jealous of all the PDA they were getting away with.

- recurring characters. Even though some of their acting abilities were highly questionable, I did appreciate how certain characters introduced in the beginning of the show would pop up again later on. I’m sure a good part of that was to save on hiring more people, but I still thought it was neat. For example, I wasn’t too fond of the merit brush dude (cuz his story was dumb and draggy), but I did like how this innocuous store owner that was little more than a background character at the start eventually became one of the villains. 

-  Ye Zun. He’s so CUTE. I mean, ok, Zhu Yilong playing him helped, but just seriously, his character is so fucked up and misguided and emo and adorable that I just wanted to give him a big hug all the time. When that shitty cockatoo he calls “Boss”** started smacking him around, I wanted to reach into the screen and throttle that ugly POS. I wouldn’t even be surprised if that asshole more than physically abused Ye Zun. Anyway, I just felt bad for the little puppy. I wish we got to spend more time with him and that he got redeemed earlier so that he could enjoy some love and hugs before being led into the wormhole (or…wherever it was that his big bro was heading off with him…wait, would it be the wormhole? But they died, right? So technically it should be like the reincarnation hole?) **(btw, why “Boss”? Why not “Leader”? Are the head villains paying their henchmen to follow them? So weird that they call their leaders “boss” which would imply they’re being paid wages which I truly doubt is the case)

- Da Qing. He’s a cutie too. Really wish the kitty girl had lived so that he wouldn’t be all alone, now that ZYL is gone. I guess Tech boy Lin Jing is going to take care of him now?  

- Zhu Hong. When she wasn’t inexplicably screaming her dialogue, I did like her…but a huge part of that is probably because I remember the actress from Yanxi Palace (she was playing a small villainous role but she did a good job) and I felt sorry for her. Putting the unrequited love aside, it must also be tough seeing ZYL now and yet knowing that’s not even the same guy she loves at all. Damn, that actually must be so unsettling for everyone who knew the old ZYL. 

-  the personality swap episode (ep 25). THAT was freaking adorable. Just wish it lasted longer and that eventually it affected SW and ZYL. Although, since they already eye-fuck each other like 99% of the time, what would be different? I guess SW would be a little looser…and ZYL would be a bit more sad and pining-er? (Btw, I literally never heard of the word “microexpressions” until Zhu Yilong entered my life). Omg, an image of them switching outfits just popped into my head. Oh shit, that would’ve been FUN to see. Dammit.

That’s all I could come up with for now…I’ll probably add more as I think of more things. Please feel free to contribute if you think of positive things I’ve left out. I might not agree but I’d still love to hear them.

So my last post here was on 12th Feb 2018.

Today is 14th Feb 2021, it's been 3 years.

Let me leave another digital footprint about where I've been, what's been happening, my life updates, and how many dark days I've successfully past to be here hahahaha

1. I'm 24. Well technically about to be 25 this year but hey, still 10 more months let me not think about becoming a quarter of decade first, ok?!

2. I've fucking graduated! Hahahaha yeah I have a BS now, B.Sc for sure. Bachelor of Science. On 2019. Finally huh? Twas some roller coaster of uni life. I kinda missing it now tho🙄

3. Currently working, on my second job!

Gotta say I'm lucky, blessed, whatever but clearly lucky enough to found a job right after I started looking for one, which is 2 months after the graduation ceremony. It wasn't a glamorous job at all, but I loved it. And I love my job now as well. I can say it's my life, my whole life😂😂 as maybe I can predict ever since I'm a child that I'll grow up into a workaholic kind of person lol #capricorn at its best quality ✨✨ And hey, I'm doing pretty great! Career ladder wise, salary ladder wise, I'm doing okay. Of course my current salary is far from my ideal salary if count based on my education background, my vision board and my stuck up personality, but anyway all good all great, considering I'm now living in the middle of a pandemic.

4. Yeah right, I should've mentioned this on the first update. It's pandemic year!!!! Corona now ru(i)ns the world, est.2020. Crazy, crazy year. People working from home, people got laid off, people got sick and dead, the world turns upside down. But let's be grateful that we all still alive and thriving and still have tomorrow to looking forward.

5. I'm still friends with my best friend, and I still like them as much as I like my dog or well I like them more and more every day ngl I love em and I feel lucky grateful to find em🥺🥺

6. I see the reason I started this tumblr initially was for me, a cold hearted, heartless, emotionless, denial-lover, avoidant person to LEARN to pour out my emotions for the sake of the mental health and to recover from...uhm, brokenheart hahah🙄 I see the last time I post here I said I've moved on but let me tell you that I still sometimes missed him and there was this never ending curiousity of what could've happened and what went wrong.

Now, 3 years later, let me tell you that I am now has been Ex-Free for a whole good year!!!!!!!! ✨✨✨✨ I think it's all started in the middle of 2019 and it continues til now.

I even met someone last year that I instantly feel connected (well, idk the other end I'm not responsible for their feelings) let's we all hope that this will end well, shall we? Because I really like him

See, it's a LOT OF WORK AND OBSTACLES I'VE OVERCAME to finally being an individual who recognises its own feelings and being okay with it. Proud of me💐

7. It's not all rainbows and sunshine, there were lots of bad days, especially those near my period days.

Called it PMDD, I now become very close with that bitch. Definitely has a strong effect on me, makes me 100x bitchier than usual. Not only that, but some times also kick me right at the gut and throw me into the deepest hole very near with borderline depression. But that's another story to tell. The last few months has been good tho, the symptoms is no longer worse maybe except this month lmao.

I started to think whenever I overworked myself, put myself in the middle of a very packed schedule with a messy sleeping pattern and unhealthy food, the symptoms will only getting worse. So I guess my homework is to balance it all out. No big deal..

8. Last but not least, I lost a couple of friends/aunties/grandpa this last 3 years.

Started in 2019, on April, suddenly a friend of mine from the secondary school died from lung cancer (may he rest in peace, we all really sorry for being such a jerk). Pretty shocking, kind of throw me off.

And then another friend suddenly got sick and he died on August, literally 2 weeks after we visited him in the hospital. Bone cancer. This one friend was closer to me, his house even just a couple metres away from mine. Last fun we had was when we were on a small reunion and he picked me up, and on the way home he told me and my other friend that his legs occasionally felt numb and weak. We joked that it was the age factor hahahah we had no idea that it was actually cancer. It was on May, if I'm not mistaken. We knew he had cancer by June/July. Consider him as a good friend, good human. Yeah anyway, his death literally surprised me and I was really really sad. Well, fella, I hope you both found a safe place in heaven and continuously play your music for God just like you did on your time on earth. We love you both, we will never forget you.

Lastly, my grandpa died on September 2020. Also two or three weeks after I visit him? Couldn't remember. Haven't paid a visit to his grave since it's pandemic season, I can only watch virtually the moment he was on the casket and buried. Hope you'll always watching us and guide us, grandpa!

Oh wait I hate to end my story with a sad shit, so...yeah just.......maybe........wish me luck with this...new person... I've found.... attractive..........cs I really...like him........hahahahhahahahahahahahahaha I'm soooo cheesy buh bye

Hi, I'm 16 years old and I currently have a 2002 Gmc Envoy, and I love the qualities of the car, but the brakes are horrible and it's crash test rating is really low. Okay so I was originally charged with DUI because I was pulled over for swerving a bit and failed a urine test for weed at the police station, but had no drugs in my blood, which meant I was not under the influence at the time of driving. This charge has the pretty much the same mandatory minimum sentencing requirements of a DUI.
