Hey ladies, I just got scammed out of $250 over Zelle and I'm super sad and pissed at myself. Has this ever happened to y'all? I just feel dumb rn. I filed a report and everything but still.
I once got scammed out of $80 at the Cancún Airport. That's not the only time, but it is the time I remember and feel real stupid about.
The point is: it can happen to literally any of us. It happens to smart, savvy, money-literate people all the time. On some level, you should just be glad you're not Charlotte Cowles.
So I DO NOT give you permission to beat up on yourself. Don't be mean to my baby like that! The money is gone, and you've learned a valuable lesson. Take some time to engage in a little self-care and forgive yourself.
Now, here's your homework:

Going to put on my Tumblr Parent Pants™️ for a second and out myself by saying I play an ungodly amount of Candy Crush, and recently I’ve been seeing an ad that I wanted to talk about but kind of just passed it off until I saw this ad on tumblr as well recently, so I just want to say: You Are Not Making Thousands Of Dollars Off A Stupid Little Game App. And I’m sure MOST of you are saying “nO sHiT pUnK” but listen if you are, then this post is NOT for you. I’d like to think that my mom taught me a decent amount of life lessons including this one but I still know what it’s like to feel like you grew up as a “sheltered child” so I’m passing this message onto anyone whose parents DIDN’T teach them this lesson: If a game was REALLY giving out THOUSANDS of dollars for FREE, they would NOT be putting THIS MUCH EFFORT into ADVERTISING because you would ALREADY KNOW ABOUT IT because that shit would have gone VIRAL. And if you’re thinking to yourself “oh, yeah, this post is definitely for me”: DON’T feel stupid. Look, we all fall for scams at least once in our life, whether it be a scam like this or just a phony relationship or whatever. Falling for a scam does NOT make you stupid. We live and we learn and we pass the knowledge on to those who come after us, hopefully with love. You’re not stupid.

As native Gazans, the plight of my family weighs heavily on my heart. Trapped in our beloved city of Rafah, they sought refuge there after my grandmother's cancer diagnosis necessitated treatment unavailable elsewhere. However, the encroaching presence of a militant force has turned our once vibrant home into a battleground. Hindered by my grandmother's frail health, fleeing was not an option. Now, they are ensnared atop an apartment building overrun by militia, surrounded by danger and uncertainty. My aunts, both battling illness and injuries, along with my young cousins, are trapped in a nightmare. As a fellow Gazan and well-wishers, I implore you to extend your compassion and aid. Please, help us bring my family to safety amidst this turmoil.
Consider extending your support to my family during this hour of darkness.
this is a scam.

If you send me messages/asks requesting money or reblogs for money, and I don't know you personally already, I'm just going to delete it.
I don't expect this to stop the pity phishing bots, which have suddenly increased now that I have a post that broke containment (which, since it was activism, is as it should be).
I just need y'all real people to understand that while I do try to help where and when I can, I have no consistent personal income myself.
I am well supported! Don't worry about me! But I can't just give my partners' money away to anyone and everyone who asks.
Tempted to pin this, but my existing pin is more important.

Over the weekend, my brother and I went to Chicago for the Chalice of the Gods book tour event. We went a day early to spend some time in the city and do touristy things and some guy came up to us. He handed us some pretty neat postcards of the city and started talking about how he was selling them to raise money for poor people. And immediately alarm bells are going off in my head because all I can think about is that scam where they put a bracelet on you and scream and you to pay for it. So I just let him finish his spiel and nicely say we don’t have cash. We gave the postcards back, and left.
I don’t know if it really was a scam or not. I don’t want to look it up because I don’t want to feel shitty if it’s not a scam. But it was so scary to be away from my parents, to be in charge of myself and my brother (as if we aren’t both adults, but he’s still my baby brother) and not know what to do. And it was even scarier because I don’t think my brother knows to look out for anything suspicious because he’s exactly that. My brother. A guy. Whereas I’m not a guy, very obviously female, and I’ve had it pound into me by literally the entire world that I have to keep my head on a swivel or something bad can and will happen to me.
People suck. And they ruin it for people who actually need help and kindness from strangers. And they give me more trust issues than I had before I grew up.
#all that aside the book was great#rick was fantastic#10/10 highly recommend#be safe#safety#money scams#look out for scams#look out

Got to sleep for a bit and had a dream where I was sailing with pirates but they were pretty bad guys and I didn't want to do bad things. So we were sailing one day and I was by myself when we passed over a giant whale, but it had really pretty galaxy markings all over it's body. I made a wish and then the whale glowed and I suddenly had my own sail boat, carved in an intricate whale design just like the galaxy one. Everything around me was a mix between sea and galaxy, like there were mermaids with stars on their tails and the ocean seemed to reflect entire worlds. I went home to tell my mom that I was going to be a good pirate only to find that my town got caught up in some weird bakery money scam and there were chocolate cakes littering every surface, even the ground, and I was like "Ummmm what the fuck happened--" and then I woke up.

I am so, so, SO incredibly sick of the fact that life and finances practically revolves around having a credit score. Your credit score sucks? Too bad! You can't get a house now, an essential need, unless you're constantly buying shit to keep your score up, but you also gotta pay that back. IT'S SUCH A FUCKING SCAM! It pisses me off how normalized this is, so much to the point that my therapist (who's great btw) is telling me that I'm "fighting reality" because I was saying how it shouldn't be this way for everyone. "It's just the way it is", she says. I'm not falling for it. There's a lot of things in life I'm willing to accept, just give me time. But I will NEVER accept the absolute harmful and heartless bullshit that capitalism is.
