Ch2 | P12 | The Breaking of the Waves [Mermaid Hiccup Au]
Masterpost of Pages | Read on Tapas
hmm, me thinks Hiccup didn't like being sidelined for the past 4.5 years since he last appeared in the comic... or, y'know, the 5 minute convo between Astrid and Eret in-story 😅 Hoping to have ch2 page 13 posted within a week or two if i can!
Comic Summary: Astrid Hofferson has wanted to be a marine biologist since she was a little girl. Finally getting her dream job as an intern at the Barbaric Archipelago Aquarium, she finds things not as they seem and a little more than she expected when she befriends a merman named Hiccup.

“Now, go talk to them,” Astrid nudged Hiccup forward. He turned to her incredulously.
“What? Why?”
“You’re good at talking to people.”
“Uh, no I’m not. I’m an antisocial introvert.”
“An introvert who knows how to get along with people, unlike me.”
“I can’t talk to a peer!”
“Hush. They’re a stranger. You’re great at talking to strangers you’ll never see again. Your conversation is only pathetic when you’re trying to make friends.”
“Gee, thanks.”
(High school au in which Astrid is on the newspaper but doesn't like to conduct interviews, so she forces her good friend Hiccup to do them for her.)

At the end of the school year, there’s always a festival of sorts. It’s organized by the school staff for the students and their parents alike and the day they’ve chosen happens to be warm and sunny. There are all sorts of activities to do and prizes to win, it’s almost like a fair. The students get to show off a dance or a talent on stage if they so wish.
Hiccup is currently doing neither of those things. He doesn’t feel the need to show anyone anything on a stage, though Snotlout certainly tried to rope him into a theater piece like he roped in Fishlegs, Ruffnut and Tuffnut. He could take a look at any one of the stands spread about the inner courtyard or visit any of the classrooms where workshops are taking place. Some are just for future students.
But he doesn’t feel like going to any of them. Instead, he sits on a bench and waits for someone instead. His father isn’t meant to come for another hour anyway.
He watches the crowd, the families and cliques that pass him by, sometimes he even spots a teacher. Because Berk is rather small, he pretty much recognizes every single one.
His guard is completely down, there’s no reason for it to be up. So when his shoulders are grabbed from behind, he startles. But then a smile breaks out on his face when a pair of lips press a kiss to his cheek.
“Astrid!” He laughs as she pulls away from him. His eyes search for hers, but she seems to inspect him instead. Whatever she was looking for, she finds it because she smiles, too.
“Just coming to see how my boyfriend is doing,” she says innocently. That’s when he notices that there’s smeared paint on her lips.
“Did you just…?” Hiccup asks and with a giggle does Astrid pull up her phone and finds the camera app. She switches it to selfie-mode and shows him that there’s now a little red butterfly with sparkles on his freckled cheek.
“Astrid!” He protests with a laugh and she follows with one of her own, she makes use of the opportunity to capture the moment. It’ll be her new phone screen later.
While the paint is still wet, Astrid proceeds to peck several more kisses all over his face, sending them both into a fit of giggles. At the end, they’re both covered in red blotches of paint that no longer resemble the original butterfly she painted on his cheek.

Headcanon that in Modern AU Hiccup and Astrid are ambitious people who have damn little free time, so they often take a shower together, just to talk about the past day. No sexual overtones. Just a naked couple in the shower, sharing experiences, hopes and plans with each other.

Just a Girl - Chapter 1

Summary: A spin-off from Just a Kid, a Httyd zombie AU set in the Modern world.
Three months after the emergence of the Red Death- a deadly virus that raises the dead- things are far from getting better. Forrædersk, a large city that promised safety, is a bust. Not one of them have been reunited with their loved ones, they don't even really know where to go, and now Hiccup is an amputee.
When they're forced to run from the dormitory they were staying in as he recovers, Hiccup develops a fever and they fear an infection in his stump. Astrid takes it upon herself to make sure he stays alive.
Warnings: Amputation
Rating: Mature

Author's Notes: The second chapter isn't done yet, but I have been MISSING this world!
This is the start of about three spin-offs that I have planned so far. I am so in love with this AU!

She swung the axe and the blood-curdling screams of her friend rattled her to her core.
The axe is still down, her hands tremble around it. Astrid looks down at Hiccup- Toothless curled up behind him with his forelegs around the boy like he’s giving him a tight hug- and she’s certain she sees it. Pain so excruciating he looks like he might die from it.
They should’ve given him something to sedate him, pills, weed, alcohol, anything they could get their hands on. But with the rate at which his left foot was dying, they simply did not have the time to search.
They have nothing, not even a single pain killer for after his amputation.
Hiccup is still screaming, he’s crying. Tears and snot and wailing until his throat is raw. He’s trying to fight out of Toothless’ hold to escape and he’s trying to kick Fishlegs to make him let go of his other leg. He has changed his mind, he doesn’t want to do this anymore. He’ll take the infection. He’ll take anything over this!
Astrid shoots her friend a quick glance, her own falling tears going ignored.
“Le-let go! Let me-let-let me- goh-go!” Hiccup is clawing at Toothless’ paws. The dragon purrs into his ear, trying his best to soothe him.
Meanwhile, Fishlegs is sobbing, bawling. Snotlout, Ruffnut and Tuffnut are huddled together outside of the bathroom, covering their ears and shrinking away from every new screech.
Finally, Astrid swallows and looks down, legs weak. Her vision blurs, but it doesn’t stop her from spotting the axe embedded in Hiccup’s tibia. She can physically feel herself pulling away from the situation. She doesn’t know if she’s about to hyperventilate, throw up or both.
A pool of blood is spreading beneath Hiccup’s leg, with every one of his movements, there’s a new spurt.
“Astrid!” Fishlegs shouts at her, eyes red and snot running down his face.
It’s her hands wrapped around the shaft of the axe, Astrid knows that for certain. And yet, they don’t feel like they belong to her anymore. Her head and heart empty, a void.
She tightens her grip and lifts it up again. It comes loose with a noise, lifting the leg almost a centimeter above the ground before it does. When the limb falls back down, a louder scream leaves Hiccup, his voice cracks.
She raises the axe above her again, its head stained in a dear friend’s blood.
The second time, she swings faster, there is no hesitation with this one. Hiccup suddenly shuts up as he passes out, eyes glazed over before they slip closed, face slack. It’s not just a mercy on him. There are soft sobs coming from outside.
With the second strike, they’re almost through and Astrid raises the axe again.
