i have MANY thoughts about marcs relationship with pecco versus his relationship with bezz (compelling in different ways!)

with pecco you can tell he’s naturally more closed off, and marc seems like he’s coaxing pecco out of his shell with him slowly! like very on pecco’s terms, very aware that how he acts affects pecco’s feelings on him a lot

compared to with bezz, who’s feelings on marc were kinda set already, and marc seems aware that if bezz is going to change his opinion on marc it has to come out of his own choice/own brain, he is NAWT going to be coaxed out! so he lets bezz make his decisions before starting to engage with him when he made clear that he’d changed his mind about marc

marc’s super media aware so that Could be playing into it, but i think marc is just good at reading people and has been pretty thoughtful about pecco and bezz because of their very close proximity to vale, and therefore more difficult to manage interpersonal relationships. the more i think about it the more i appreciate marc’s maturity, and just general sweetness despite everything

i often joked about the fact that marc probably doesn’t even know bez full government name, bc you can tell how he acts around him. is he gentle and absolutely nice in every case? yes, but nothing more than that. if bez speaks to him, or greets him even, that’s totally okay. but he will NOT start any conv whatsoever. no sign of acknowledgment. ofc he’d be happy if he saw bez being nice to him a bit more day by day but it’s not something that he’s actually searching for. (i still think the fight they had last year is something that its not really easy to brush off… for marc, at least, def not)

that’s why marcmarc to me is HEAVILY on bez’s side. i think he has to be the one taking the first steps ofc.

with pecco is Sooo different, bc you can tell how marc always goes and try to chat with him a bit!, ever since the testing days. he knows pecco has always been the “moderate” one, at least compared to bez. i think he also came to respect him as a rider, eventually, and as he was entering ducati’s ranks ofc pecco had to be his reference if he wanted to be the absolute best. they both love going for some psychological warfare, something that marc is a master at, and pecco just learnt from the best during his academy days. their battles on track are the funniest and most entertaining thing for marc. and vale’s shadow is still THERE nevertheless. just a bunch of things that get mixed together, and that really does enhance their lore!!

ofc, this could also somehow help marc’s position for next year, as pecco wants the atmosphere at ducati to not get ruined. so, idk anon, there are sooo many layers playing a hand in their relationship!! very. VERY compelling

Honestly, I consider my self "pro-israel" but still very critical about Bibis goverment, specially since fuckers like Gvir ad Smorvtich are in charge. I think that with Hamas finally gone and this fuckers either jailed for good or gone since they are actually hated by the Israeli population rn (The only reason they havent kicked them to kingdom come is because its the middle of a war) a good faith peace plan for both sides can be established with a third party of trust.

This being said, why the fuck do people root for Hamas? Ive seen this so called progressive even calling them 'resistance'. These fuckers are the main cause that palestinians are in the situation they are in. They use all the money they get from aid to try to attack israel, use their own population as shields because they dont care about them and indoctrictnated them to hate since children. Do they really want to leave them opressing Gazans like nothing happened after oct 7th? Because Ive havent seen any goverment willing to do this dirty work because, sadly, Hamas wont reliquinsh their "power" peacefully.

Honestly, in a past I considered my self pro-palestinian and pro-israel, at least publicly, but these loud minority of Hamasinks seemed to have hijacked a movement that started with good intentions. But sadly it appears that this minority is becoming the majority.

So re: why do people support Hamas. I'm assuming you're referring to the Pro-Pal Left that has reared its head since October 7th. Honestly I think it comes down to the privilege that almost everyone in the Imperial Core has: Freedom from War. These folks learned about War Crimes in highschool or whatever, never bothered to learn what they actually were and the how and why of their drafting, and now they hear about Israel bombing hospitals and they can't imagine any possible scenario where that could be justified. To these folks War is two armies marching at each other in block formations in an open field. And perhaps their only conception of Urban War is the civilian-less and consequence-free set pieces of modern warfare shooters. And it shows! I've seen people praising the Mujahideen in Gaza as brave and noble heroes for slapping the side of a Merkavah with a tandem charge RPG all while ignoring the fact that the person firing the RPG isn't wearing any sort of distinguishable uniform and are therefore committing the crime of perfidy. And it drives me insane because perfidy is such a fucking poisonous thing to do. Any action which erodes a belligerents ability to read actions in good faith is horrific, and actions like that are exactly what Hamas' strategy and tactics are based on and around. To break it down for the pissing on the poor crowd: 1: Hamas plans operation and bases soldiers in hospital 2: Israel bombs that hospital, whichever officer in charge has made the hard decision that the number of military casualties is worth the number of civilian collateral casualties, as well as damage to the hospital infrastructure. (THIS IS LEGAL AND NOT A WAR CRIME) 3: Hamas makes up death count and has their media corps play corpse jenga 4: useful idiots in the Imperial Core see that Israel bombed a hospital (no possible reason for doing that other than killing innocents!) and the 3000 years of antisemitism thats hardcoded into their brains kicks in and all the blood libel floods out. As for alienating the extremists from the moderates. I have no idea. Frankly I could care less about what Johnny Jihad or his leftist brownshirts care about Palestine or Israel or Jews or Palestinians. His Last Bow

Originally titled in full "His Last Bow. The War Service of Sherlock Holmes" and later "His Last Bow: An Epilogue of Sherlock Holmes", this was originally published in 1917.

It is the final story in His Last Bow, the final short story in the canon covered by Letters from Watson and agreed by all the key chronologists to be the final canon appearance of Holmes and Watson.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle had openly supported British entry into the First World War in 1914.

The story came about after a visit to the Western Front in 1916; asked by a French general what Holmes was doing, Doyle had responded that he was too old to serve. He then decided to write this story as a means of boosting morale.

To put it mildly, the British public had gone a bit spy-crazy in the lead up to the war; fearing "Teutons serving them croutons" i.e. Germans living in the UK acting as intelligence agents for the Kaiser.

The Riddle of the Sands is one such work of popular literature on this theme, which is the subject of Letters from Carruthers coming in September.

There was also the fantastical works of William Le Queux, who started off with the French and Russians as his enemies before switching to the Germans; he also had his works serialised in the Daily Mail, a British middle-market tabloid that was founded in 1896 and has been happily engaging in right-wing sensationalism since to the point Wikipedia has banned them as a source. Le Queux for his part believed the Germans were out to get him for exposing their spy networks - he hadn't, they weren't and the Metropolitan Police refused him protection.

The Benz company had produced the first practical motor car in 1885; they of course later merged with Daimler to become Mercedez-Benz. I cannot find a 100hp example of their vehicles.

"Window-breaking Furies" refers to the suffragette movement that sort votes for women, some of who engaged in direct action like breaking windows and also planting bombs or arson, although they made sure the latter was done when the buildings were empty to avoid killing anyone. These tactics were as controversial at the time as the tactics of modern-day groups like Just Stop Oil. When the war broke out, the suffragettes stopped their militant actions and supported the war effort; their imprisoned members being released as part of an amnesty.

John Bull is a national personification of the UK, typically a stout middle-aged man in a Union Jack waistcoast, frequently seen in cartoons at this time. He rather fell out of popular use post-war and is rarely seen today, unlike Britannia, who remains a widely used figure.

The Rosyth Dockyard was built from 1909 for refitting Royal Navy ships and submarines; although now privatised, it retains that role and is currently building the five Type 31 frigates.

The final speech by Holmes at the end also featured in the 1942 Basil Rathbone film Sherlock Holmes and the Voice of Terror, based on this story.

So Holmes and Watson drive off into the sunset. What happened to them after that? All we know is that both survived the war and at some point Dr Watson stopped writing about his dear friend. They deserve to have had a long retirement.

“It's Neko.” Your husband trailed off, grief saturating his tone. After a minute of loaded silence he continued. “The vet said she's in stage II kidney failure.”

Your jaw dropped at his words, hand covering your mouth as you listened to the soft whimpers on the other end. Comprehending how half his world just fell to pieces.

“She's fine though. She eats, drinks, follows us to the bathroom and screams at random.” You whispered, shocked by the news you just received. Your husband brought the cat in for a minor dental procedure, not to write out her final will and testament

A couple of small sniffles, “I know. They said she'll be ready to pick up in an hour or two.”

“I'll talk to my lead and pick you up. We'll go together.” You decided, sitting back in your chair. “It'll be okay, I love you.”

“Fuck I feel pathetic. I love you too.” Alex sighed, ending the call. Tears burned in the back of your eyes, knowing the undescribable bond between the two.

“I'm nervous.” He whispered, knee bouncing anxiously against yours. Eyes scanning the room as he waited for your names to be called.

“It'll be okay.” You mumbled, fingers slipping through his. Squeezing three times; silently forgiving him for not returning the gesture.

His eyes were red, and still swollen despite mostly calming down 20 minutes ago. The entire ride to the clinic was filled with apologies and wondering out loud if the staff will notice he was crying minutes prior.

“Hey you two, we're going to exam 3.” The tech walked over, gesturing for you to follow.

“So, before we bring Neko in we want to review the notes from the procedure and discharge paperwork.” She started, eyeing at your boyfriend who was staring mindlessly at the door. Unable to process any of what was said until he knew his feline soulmate was alright.

“Procedure went amazing, we didn't pull any teeth as the previous problem resolved.” The tech explained, showing you images of the x-rays and Neko's teeth. “We did notice on the pre-op labwork that she does have evidence of some kidney disease however.”

Your eyebrows raised unconsciously. Relief flooding your system. Disease isn't nearly as bad as failure.

Nudging Alex with your elbow, silently reminding him to be present in the conversation; you listened as the vet tech continued to explain the ranking of severity. Stage IV being failure.

Neko was stage II. Mild to moderate disease.

New tears brimmed in his eyes when the carrier was brought into the room. Irritated meows flooding the room, along with your husband's soft sob.

You listened to the dietary changes, recommended supplements and follow up appointments as Alex cooed at the small animal. Chuckling softly as she continued to berate him for leaving her here all day.

“Thank you, we'll call in the new year to book.” You smiled, waving at the staff before leaving the clinic. Rolling your eyes at your husband, who held the carrier up to his face. Apologizing to his feline friend, and explaining to her how awesome it is that she'll get so much more soft food now!

“It's a Christmas miracle.” Alex sighed happily on the drive home, one arm in the carrier. Scratching Neko's cheek as he smiled wide.

“It's a sign you need to brush up on your medical terminology.”

NAME: Lina AGE: 25 RACE: Human PRONOUNS: She/her PREFERRED VOCATION: Archery (Warfarer: switching in between Archer and Magic Archer) FAVORED GIFTS: Flowers. FAMILY: Only her Mom, Beatrice. Only child.

1. What was their life like before becoming Arisen?

Lina lived a moderately peaceful life in Cassardis, in a small house that was part of the old structure of the town (the fanfiction takes place about 200 years after DD1). She was an ordinary citizen of low social status in Gransys, working as a cook in the oldest inn. There she was in charge of hunting and preparing meals. The current owner of the inn is a man named William.

2. How do they handle being Arisen, and the responsibilities that come with it?

Lina was quite mature in accepting her role as Arisen. She seems to be aware and serene about her fate, but inwardly she is always wondering why this situation is happening to her, and she mostly perceives it as a divine punishment.

3. What are their thoughts on Pawns in general?

Lina's history with people is rather distant: Her mother is cold, and her mother partner treated her quite badly and abused her (touching her inappropriately). Partly as a result of this, she feels that pawns are more affectionate towards her, which creates an almost automatic empathy for them. She perceives them as sentient beings, ordinary people, forgetting all the time that they are just pawns.

4. What's their relationship like with their main Pawn?

Lina is constantly struggling with her desires and feelings for Hal. She is a person so thirsty for affection, and Hal's gentle, attentive personality attracts her like a magnet (and vice versa). She does not know how to deal with him; she respects him and tries to maintain a normal friendship, but deep down she sees him as "the man who came straight out of her dreams" to be with her and care for her as a partner.

5. Do they have any interest in being Sovran? What are their opinions on the politics of the world in general?

Lina's lore is based in DD1, so the main goal is taking down Grigori and take her heart back, but she doesn't know what is waiting for her after that...

6. Who are their love interest(s) and/or closest friends?

Only her pawns: Hal, Snake and Meryl. But she will know a lot of people on her adventures...

7. What drew them to their preferred vocation? Do they have history with it?

Initially, Lina was a Strider, but as a non-athlete, she lacked the agility to excel in that vocation. It was then that Snake, a long-time experienced pawn, recommended her switch to archery, as she had an innate talent for it. Later in life, Hal suggested that she should learn to use magic, so she became a Magic Archer.

8. Do they have any hobbies? Any way of relaxing between all that monster-slaying and traveling?

Her hobby is writing and collecting pressed flowers.

POSITIVE TRAITS: Intelligent, creative, curious. He likes to invent things. NEGATIVE TRAITS: Shy, withdrawn, easily feels uncomfortable. Overthinks. LIKES: The stars, and humans. Has a weird fascination for human behavior. DISLIKES: injustice.

1. What was their life like prior to being summoned by their Arisen?

Nothing. Hal has been summoned by Lina for the first time.

2. What is their opinion on the Arisen? How do they view their relationship?

Hal is deeply committed to Lina. At first, this was just a reflection of his nature as a pawn, but after spending night after night dealing with different Arisen through the Rift, he begins to notice that she acts differently than other humans; benevolently and with justice. This ignites a small spark in Hal, leading him to question his true "feelings" toward his Arisen, even if he doesn't understand what he's sensing at first.

3. Is there anything about the Arisen they find troublesome? Be it a small quirk or bad habit? (Or are they obviously flawless?)

Sometimes Hal feels uncomfortable with Lina's boldness. It is a strange emotion for him. In a way he dislikes it, but at the same time he feels it is part of her charm.

4. What is their specialization and is there any story behind how they cultivated that skill set?

Hal is a Mage, and he loves to create fast, intelligent ways to keep his party safe.

5. Do they have any thoughts on the politics of the world and their place in it as a Pawn - or how Pawns are treated?

YES, pretty much! and that's because of Lina. Because she is a revolutionary. Lina believes that she was chosen to be punished because of her desire to have a fair and kind life for everyone. But Hal thinks that the dragon chose her because she is capable of bringing a revolution and a great change for all living beings.

6. Does their journey with the Arisen change them in any significant way and how?

Yes. Hal is aware of the importance of education, patience, and benevolence, as they are the next steps in touching the hearts and changing the minds of others. To lead by example in order to create a better world for all.

7. Is there a reason they chose their preferred vocation?

Hal has enough talent to be a sorcerer, but he is so concerned for the welfare of his Arisen that he remains a mage so that he can always use his spells to heal and assist Lina whenever needed.

8. Do they have any hobbies or preferred past-times?

He likes to read, create artifacts and gimmicks to help the arisen in her journey.
