Peter Baker and Dylan Freedman at NYT:
Former President Donald J. Trump vividly recounted how the audience at his climactic debate with Vice President Kamala Harris was on his side. Except that there was no audience. The debate was held in an empty hall. No one “went crazy,” as Mr. Trump put it, because no one was there. Anyone can misremember, of course. But the debate had been just a week earlier and a fairly memorable moment. And it was hardly the only time Mr. Trump has seemed confused, forgetful, incoherent or disconnected from reality lately. In fact, it happens so often these days that it no longer even generates much attention.
He rambles, he repeats himself, he roams from thought to thought — some of them hard to understand, some of them unfinished, some of them factually fantastical. He voices outlandish claims that seem to be made up out of whole cloth. He digresses into bizarre tangents about golf, about sharks, about his own “beautiful” body. He relishes “a great day in Louisiana” after spending the day in Georgia. He expresses fear that North Korea is “trying to kill me” when he presumably means Iran. As late as last month, Mr. Trump was still speaking as if he were running against President Biden, five weeks after his withdrawal from the race. With Mr. Biden out, Mr. Trump, at 78, is now the oldest major party nominee for president in history and would be the oldest president ever if he wins and finishes another term at 82. A review of Mr. Trump’s rallies, interviews, statements and social media posts finds signs of change since he first took the political stage in 2015. He has always been discursive and has often been untethered to truth, but with the passage of time his speeches have grown darker, harsher, longer, angrier, less focused, more profane and increasingly fixated on the past.
According to a computer analysis by The New York Times, Mr. Trump’s rally speeches now last an average of 82 minutes, compared with 45 minutes in 2016. Proportionately, he uses 13 percent more all-or-nothing terms like “always” and “never” than he did eight years ago, which some experts consider a sign of advancing age. Similarly, he uses 32 percent more negative words than positive words now, compared with 21 percent in 2016, which can be another indicator of cognitive change. And he uses swearwords 69 percent more often than he did when he first ran, a trend that could reflect what experts call disinhibition. (A study by Stat, a health care news outlet, produced similar findings.) Mr. Trump frequently reaches to the past for his frame of reference, often to the 1980s and 1990s, when he was in his tabloid-fueled heyday. He cites fictional characters from that era like Hannibal Lecter from “Silence of the Lip” (he meant “Silence of the Lambs”), asks “where’s Johnny Carson, bring back Johnny” (who died in 2005) and ruminates on how attractive Cary Grant was (“the most handsome man”). He asks supporters whether they remember the landing in New York of Charles Lindbergh, who actually landed in Paris and long before Mr. Trump was born.
He seems confused about modern technology, suggesting that “most people don’t have any idea what the hell a phone app is” in a country where 96 percent of people own a smartphone. If sometimes he seems stuck in the 1990s, there are moments when he pines for the 1890s, holding out that decade as the halcyon period of American history and William McKinley as his model president because of his support for tariffs. And he heads off into rhetorical cul-de-sacs. “So we built a thing called the Panama Canal,” he told the conservative host Tucker Carlson last year. “We lost 35,000 people to the mosquito, you know, malaria. We lost 35,000 people building — we lost 35,000 people because of the mosquito. Vicious. They had to build under nets. It was one of the true great wonders of the world. As he said, ‘One of the nine wonders of the world.’ No, no, it was one of the seven. It just happened a little while ago. You know, he says, ‘Nine wonders of the world.’ You could make nine wonders. He would’ve been better off if he stuck with the nine and just said, ‘Yeah, I think it’s nine.’”
[...] The former president has not been hobbled politically by his age as much as Mr. Biden was, in part because the incumbent comes across as physically frail while Mr. Trump still exudes energy. But his campaign has refused to release medical records, instead simply pointing to a one-page letter released in July by his former White House doctor reporting that Mr. Trump was “doing well” after being grazed by a bullet in an assassination attempt. How much his rambling discourse — what some experts call tangentiality — can be attributed to age is the subject of some debate. Mr. Trump has always had a distinctive speaking style that entertained and captivated supporters even as critics called him detached from reality. Indeed, questions have been raised about Mr. Trump’s mental fitness for years. [...]
Mr. Trump’s complexity level has remained relatively steady and has not diminished in recent years, according to the analysis. But concerns about his age have heightened now that he is trying to return to office, concerns that were not alleviated by his unfounded debate claim about immigrants “eating the pets” in a small town. Polls show that a majority of Americans believe he is too old to be president, and his critics have been trying to focus attention on that. A group of mental health, national security and political experts held a conference at the National Press Club in Washington last month on Mr. Trump’s fitness. The Lincoln Project, an anti-Trump group of former Republicans, regularly taunts him with ads like one calling his debate with Ms. Harris “a cognitive test” that he failed.
Mr. Trump has appeared tired at times and has maintained a far less active campaign schedule this time around, holding only 61 rallies so far in 2024, compared with 283 through all of 2016, according to the Times analysis, although he has picked up the pace lately. He appeared to nod off during his hush-money trial in New York before being convicted of 34 felonies. Experts said it was hard to judge whether the changes in Mr. Trump’s speaking style could indicate typical effects of age or some more significant condition. “That can change with normal aging,” said Dr. Bradford Dickerson, a neurologist at Harvard Medical School. “But if you see a change relative to a person’s base line in that type of speaking ability over the course of just a few years, I think it raises some real red flags.”
[...]
In 2011, as he was contemplating a run for the presidency, Mr. Trump addressed the Conservative Political Action Conference and sounded more partisan notes. While many of the themes would be familiar to today’s voters, he stuck closer to his script and finished his thoughts more often. His speeches in 2015 and 2016 were more aggressive, but still clearer and more comprehensible than now, and balanced with flashes of humor. Now his rallies are powered as much by anger as anything else. His distortions and false claims have reached new levels. His adversaries are “lunatics” and “deranged” and “communists” and “fascists.” Never particularly restrained, he now lobs four-letter words and other profanities far more freely. The other day, he suggested unleashing the police to inflict “one really violent day” on criminals to deter crime. He does not stick to a single train of thought for long. During one 10-minute stretch in Mosinee, Wis., last month, for instance, he ping-ponged from topic to topic: Ms. Harris’s record; the virtues of the merit system; Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s endorsement; supposed corruption at the F.D.A., the C.D.C. and the W.H.O.; the Covid-19 pandemic; immigration; back to the W.H.O.; China; Mr. Biden’s age; Ms. Harris again; Mr. Biden again; chronic health problems and childhood diseases; back to Mr. Kennedy; the “Biden crime family”; the president’s State of the Union address; Franklin D. Roosevelt; the 25th Amendment; the “parasitic political class”; Election Day; back to immigration; Senator Tammy Baldwin; back to immigration; energy production; back to immigration; and Ms. Baldwin again.
This New York Times article today calling out Donald Trump’s cognitive decline that has impacted his speeches over the past year or so is a powerful must-read as to why Americans shouldn’t put this senile fascist back in office.

When LOOPiN eventually disbands, and we're talking like when they reach their mid and early 30s because I think after 2024 + their military enlistment era they will still have a good one or two years before they fully branch off:
Taesong's going to become a radio host while he's still under RareRhy + focus on raising his family with his then wife Yunhee - I'm pretty sure they will have like, 3 kids;
Minwoo's pretty obviously getting over his premature 2024 retirement and working as a music producer again - he's officially signed to A Company (important), but he doesn't rap or sing unless it's in very special features for his friends. And even less surprisingly he's eventually becoming roommates with J.J both in their house in Korea and their apartment in Hong Kong;
Seungsoo is becoming the CEO of his very own entertainment company - probably going to steal a lot of employees from RareRhythm and MBN. He'll 100% make the next greatest girl group of all time. I think romantically he'll keep on being a serial dater until he dies, probably will get a kid out of one of these endeavours just because I think he will be a pretty good dad;
Haruki is becoming a full time choreographer/trainer for Soo's company, and surprise surprise! He's going back to college as a 30 something and studying art history. He'll pretty much retire from publicly appearing as a singer or model. I want to imagine he'll end up with Sejin far, faaaar into the future but honest to God I don't know if Haruki is the type to give second chances to anyone even in his most mature form;
On a similar vein to Haruki, Gyujin is also not staying as an Idol on his own - he's a team player, he would hate it bad. He will open his own little studio and teach Yoga like he does best, maybe even work to be a physical therapist later on? I see him staying single :( because I still don't know what Gyujin wants when it comes to romance. Maybe he'll always want nothing on that department and that's that;
Dylan's final love will always be filmmaking and he's going to make some extremely poetic and inspired movies that will go to Cannes and shit. I also see him working as a concept director under 'Seungsoo Ent', but not full time - Seungsoo will never give a group of his lore. I always see him going back to the US for a while, specially to catch his grandparents final moments, but ultimately he's made too much of a life for himself in Seoul to not call that his home too. I'm still uncertain about him and Furumi and how far they'll go, but I don't think she stays on his life that long as a partner - but as friends, yes! None of the Fukunaga sibs will never leave him;
O.z will keep on being a highly requested producer, I see him getting very international while maintaining his soft spot for K-Pop. He'll also never stop realizing these insane sounding mixtapes. I see him leaving South Korea with Nico, of course, probably to New Zealand. I can't see them having kids anytime soon but hey! You never know what's the next crazy thing these two are going to do!;
Hanjae's becoming a full time actor, and he'll end up the busiest and most long time famous loop dude ever. It'll take him a good while to balance his work and personal life all on his own, but I like to imagine he's getting himself a great manager team - maybe even leaded by Han Qiong! I think he would still make music from time to time, but very spaced out between his dramas and movies;
J.J is going full time TV personality + magazine model + actor combo - in Korea, in China, in the US, this man is going to be everywhere doing a bit of everything. He lives primarily in Hong Kong but it's always traveling and running around the world while dragging Minwoo along;
Haegon's going solo, babyyyyy, and I mean it all the way. He's not signing to any company that has a loop dude under them, but that's just Haegon's personal journey! It'll be important to him to do a full restart without the guys for a change, but that doesn't mean he won't keep on cheering and meeting up with his bros. I see him crashing at the member's houses all the time between schedules and his many concerts.
#blah blah blah.#Soo CEO for the win! I can't believe I just clicked that's his final destination. it comes so full circle with his overall arc#I like to imagine they'll keep on doing special anniversary albums/shows all together every year or at least every 5 years#I love to think about them in their 40s and 50s and so on 🥹 so many of them thought they would never make it so far but they do 🥹#(I could make it all sadder because I know in my bones the order they're going to die-)

M. Ward - A Man in the Moon, or, An Attempt at Translation
Music, theatre, canvas, the ballet or the screen; these are luxuries for so many of us. ‘Privilege’ might even be more apt given the notion that art is largely seen as ‘a thing to be enjoyed but which is not essential; a frivolity’. Ethan Hawke (of all people) recently gave my favourite articulation of why the arts are so necessary: because until you experience a feeling so incredibly deep that gives you cause to wonder, to think “has anybody else ever really felt like this?”, you have no way of knowing just how essential art can be.
“That’s when art is not a luxury, it’s actually sustenance”, he puts it.
Recently I got to see M. Ward perform his 20th anniversary tribute to his indie-folk magnum opus ‘Transfiguration of Vincent’. It’s a dark album peppered with fleeting spots of bright, written in the throes of grieving after the titular Vincent O’Brien, a friend of Ward’s, passed away. We don’t learn much of anything specific about Vincent over the course of the album, and nor should we. What we do experience over the album’s course, however, is the breadth of emotions Ward experiences in relation to his friend, and the downward spiral that accompanies those feelings as he watches Vincent’s gradual slip from the mortal coil.
Describing the album is difficult for me, because I find it difficult to ‘rate’ (a silly thing music lovers occasionally do), or ‘praise’ a work of art so subsumed in the grief of its artist and the tragedy of its subject. Talking about art in this way feels insulting at times, and never more so than for works as intimate as this. These are songs to be felt, not described.
And yet here is the paradox; I feel so strongly about this album and its artist that not evangelising it feels as impossible a task as explaining the effect it has on me.
Anyway, here we are.
On stage, Ward has a curious presence. He’s more idiosyncratic than charismatic, and instead carries himself with quiet confidence, and his guitar with a crooked left elbow. He isn’t particularly talkative, but the little he did say gave the impression of an incredibly humble man, and his husky voice and greying hair gives him this air of folksy charm that’s really quite, well, charming.
In interviews this seems to be much the case as well; in one radio interview from 2009 when asked how he would describe his then new album ‘Hold Time’ he answered (hilariously) “well, it’s my new album and some people will like it, some people won’t”. Other interviews also see him coming across as reserved and painfully shy about his creative process, not because he’s afraid of giving away trade secrets, but because he’s almost dismissive of the validity of his methods and his art. He’s wilfully determined to refrain from explanations of his art’s ‘meanings’ beyond vague outlines, as was the case for 2020’s ‘Migration Stories’, in his words a “sci-fi fast-forward to a more silent night many generations from here to a maybe-era where movement is free again”.
While much of this likely amounts to wild postulation about a man’s internal feelings, if there’s one accusation that’s easy to level at Ward, it’s that he’s an old soul. He’s cited Neil Young, Daniel Johnston, Billie Holiday, Howlin’ Wolf, and John Mahey as influences (“Transfiguration” is a reference to a Mahey album with a similar title), he records everything analogue, and even completes his demos on a Tascam four-track that he’s owned since his teenage years. Sonically his music evokes shades of Nick Drake, early Dylan, Jackson C. Frank and even Bowie at times. In today’s context, even the model of a solo singer-songwriter writing intimate analogue guitar music feels like an archetype on the brink of extinction.
Above all, Ward seems captured by the task of creating music as timeless as that of his predecessors.
The point that I suppose I’ve been dancing around in all this exposition is that M. Ward’s music has affected me very deeply.
I’ve spent so much of recent years trying to consume as much music as I can, chasing new sounds and bizarre voices to fulfil some craving of curiosity that is never truly satiated for more than a short time. In all that noise, it’s a fortunate wonder I didn’t overlook Transfiguration of Vincent and other M. Ward projects for their unassuming modes. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to fully explain to someone the inward-puncturing existential grief that a song like “Dead Man”makes me feel, or the utter stillness that “Real Silence” gives me.
Crucially, though, I don’t think I need to try anymore. Writing this helps, for one, but it’s music like this that gives me the kind of unfathomable joys and sorrows that our friend Ethan Hawke was referring to. It’s music like M. Ward’s that reminds me why I need music, and though it may seem fairly obvious an observation (I suppose all the best ones are), it’s the reminder that some things cannot be described; they must be felt, transfigured by poets and writers into an essence distilled for the rest of us.

Welp, I'm postibg the others because why the fuck not lol.
Beatrix's one NIkki&Louis's one
Stevie Dylan's birth to high school
Stefan Raphael Harkness, Aurora Four’s guitarist and main songwriter, also known as Stevie Dylan or “King” as his stage name, was born 29th of March 1998 to Nicholas and Lola Harkness. Nicholas Harkness always been a mysterious figure that we have just gotten answers to. At that moment in time, Nicholas Harkness was a business mogul and owner of Harkness incorporated, that had their hands from business world to entertainment industry. He was also known as a close friend of many public figures from politicians to millionaires. Lola Harkness, also known as Lola Ray, was an adult entertainer and a model two-decade junior of Nicholas. Lola was Nicholas’s fourth wife, and second affair turned marriage.
Nicholas Harkness also had a daughter from his second marriage named Evalyn Harkness, also a known key figure of the trial of Aurora Four. There are little proof of what kind of relationship the two had growing up, but, many have suspected it to be poor, considering the two were quickly to throw each other under the bus during the trial. We do know that Evalyn was highly favored by Nicholas because of her academic achievements and contributions to the Harkness incorpirated in her free hours. Every school Evalyn studied at has Nicholas Harkness donated gymnasium, library, or something else with his name on it. None of the art schools Stefan went had nothing like that.
There isn’t much of Stevie before he went by his nickname. Due to his father’s career, both kids were lived in pure social isolation, only appearing in photos of school friends or other friends. Stevie was popular of the kids, appearing in photos of dozens of parties and social gatherings, or just in a group pic of best friends that seemed to change every month.
Only place where you can see what kind of person Stevie was before high school was on tumblr, where an account called @Dylanreincarnated, who was going by the name Stevie Dylan before Aurora Four was even a thought. Some might think it’s a coincidence and the account were never proved, but the substance of the account is also more than enough proof in itself. Most of the posts on his tumblr were old quotes of 70s and 60s rockstars, aesthetic pictures of the lives from those same eras, and any resource for learning anything about music. It was almost like a stereotype. Here and there were posts about his unhappy homelife and toxic relationship with his father and sister. The last post is about how he had run away and was finally happy and free. No one really know if it was real. No one, but Stevie and the Aurora Four at least.

Them:
In her new music video, premiering at Them, Dylan Mulvaney puts a new spin on a rock-and-roll Christmas classic first popularized by none other than Elvis Presley, making out with a hunky trans love interest to the iconic “Blue Christmas.” The melancholy yet deeply sexy video for the cover song finds Mulvaney wearing a blue dress to match the title, sitting at a bar by herself when a handsome stranger (writer, actor, and model Kristofer Thomas) approaches. Before long, the two start shooting pool, then get hot and heavy in the bathroom — but as you might expect given the song’s somber tone, this is less a forever romance and more of a memorable one-time encounter. “I knew I wanted to make something special for Christmas, but it had been such turbulent year that I didn’t feel inclined to create something toxically positive or campy,” Mulvaney tells Them — and “turbulent” may be putting it mildly given the amount of transphobic prejudice the actress and content creator has endured in 2023. But “Blue Christmas” is the perfect note for Mulvaney to end her year on: Not only are we “in an Elvis era,” as she tells Them, the song’s aching melody reflects how many LGBTQ+ people feel during the holiday season: Lonely, yearning for companionship, and more than a little horny. The video, directed by Nick Laughlin, was shot at the Brooklyn queer bar Metropolitan — and it was inspired by personal experience.
Trans social media influencer Dylan Mulvaney has a new song out: a cover of Blue Christmas.

Likewise, but I'm even more grateful not to be a teenager (or twenty-something) in the era of private equity and large language models. Or the era before corrective lenses and antibiotics. Life marches on. Yes, TikToxic belongs in the trash - hopefully Dylan Hollis and Amaury Guichon will come here instead - but in the grander scheme of things it's sort of a blip.
how grateful i am to not be a teenager during the era of tiktok

Scott Dylan’s NexaTech Ventures Fuels AI Innovation in Digital Media and the Arts
In an era where technology is advancing at an unprecedented pace, artificial intelligence (AI) is breaking new ground not only in technical sectors like finance and healthcare but also in the creative industries. From digital media and music to film and visual arts, AI is unlocking new possibilities for artistic expression, enabling creators to push the boundaries of what is possible. Leading this revolution is British entrepreneur Scott Dylan, whose £100 million venture capital fund NexaTech Ventures is specifically designed to empower startups that are transforming the creative sector through AI-driven innovation.
Dylan, a visionary with a deep passion for both technology and creativity, sees AI as a powerful tool for expanding artistic expression, engaging audiences in novel ways, and democratizing access to the tools of creation. NexaTech Ventures is investing in startups that are developing AI technologies to enhance the creative process and revolutionize how content is produced, distributed, and consumed in the digital age.
The Creative Potential of AI: Blurring the Lines Between Technology and Art
The intersection of AI and the creative industries is still relatively new, but it is already proving to be a game-changer. AI’s ability to process large amounts of data, learn from patterns, and generate original content is enabling artists, filmmakers, musicians, and digital media professionals to work in ways previously unimaginable. Scott Dylan believes that AI has the potential to democratize creativity, allowing more people to engage with the arts, while also empowering professional creators to explore new forms of expression.
“AI is opening up a world of possibilities in the creative industries,” says Dylan. “It’s not about replacing artists or creators—it’s about giving them new tools to enhance their creativity and reach wider audiences. At NexaTech Ventures, we’re excited to support startups that are pushing the boundaries of what AI can do in digital media, music, film, and visual arts.”
Key Areas Where AI is Transforming the Creative Industries
Scott Dylan’s NexaTech Ventures is particularly focused on supporting startups that are innovating in the following key areas:
1. AI-Generated Art and Visual Media
AI is reshaping the world of visual arts by allowing artists to collaborate with machines to create entirely new forms of art. AI algorithms can analyze existing works, learn artistic styles, and generate unique visual compositions. This ability to blend human creativity with machine learning is giving rise to new artistic movements and expanding the definition of what art can be.
One notable example is the rise of generative art, where AI models, like GANs (Generative Adversarial Networks), produce images, paintings, and sculptures that blur the lines between human-made and machine-generated art. Startups working in this space are using AI to create visual experiences that challenge traditional notions of authorship and creativity.
NexaTech Ventures is investing in startups that are pioneering AI-generated art, helping them bring their innovations to the mainstream art world. These startups are creating tools that empower artists to collaborate with AI in new ways, generating artwork that is both visually stunning and conceptually groundbreaking.
2. Music Composition and Production
AI is revolutionizing music composition and production by providing musicians and producers with advanced tools to create, edit, and mix music. AI-powered platforms can analyze musical patterns, suggest chord progressions, generate original melodies, and even produce entire compositions in a variety of genres.
For musicians, AI offers a new way to experiment with sound, explore different musical styles, and streamline the creative process. Producers are also benefiting from AI's ability to enhance audio quality, optimize mixing processes, and automate tasks like mastering tracks, making it easier to produce professional-quality music in less time.
Scott Dylan recognizes the potential for AI to democratize music production by providing affordable tools to emerging artists. NexaTech Ventures is backing startups that are developing AI-powered platforms for music creation, helping musicians tap into the possibilities of machine learning to create innovative and unique soundscapes.
3. AI in Film and Video Production
The film and video production industry is another creative field where AI is making significant inroads. From scriptwriting to post-production editing, AI is being used to streamline workflows and enhance storytelling. AI algorithms can analyze scripts, suggest improvements, and even generate original dialogue based on character traits and plot points. In post-production, AI is being used for video editing, color correction, and visual effects, significantly reducing the time and effort required to produce high-quality content.
NexaTech Ventures is focused on supporting startups that are using AI to revolutionize the film industry. These startups are developing tools that enhance the creative process by automating repetitive tasks and enabling filmmakers to focus on their vision. AI-powered video editing platforms, for example, are helping directors and editors cut down on production time while maintaining creative control over the final product.
Scott Dylan believes that AI will ultimately democratize access to high-end filmmaking tools, allowing independent filmmakers and content creators to produce Hollywood-quality films on smaller budgets. NexaTech Ventures aims to support the startups that are making this future possible, empowering creators with the tools they need to bring their stories to life.
4. Interactive Media and Immersive Experiences
AI is also playing a key role in the development of interactive media and immersive experiences, particularly in areas like virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR). AI algorithms can enhance user interactions, creating more dynamic and personalized experiences in digital environments. This has significant implications for gaming, virtual concerts, interactive storytelling, and even live performances.
Startups developing AI-powered platforms for VR and AR are creating new forms of entertainment that engage audiences in ways traditional media cannot. For instance, AI-driven characters in virtual environments can respond to user inputs in real-time, making digital experiences more immersive and interactive. NexaTech Ventures is investing in startups at the forefront of this space, helping them develop cutting-edge technology that will define the future of entertainment.
Scott Dylan sees immersive media as a key growth area in the creative industries, particularly as consumers increasingly seek more interactive and personalized content. By supporting AI-driven innovations in this field, NexaTech Ventures is helping to shape the future of entertainment and storytelling.
The Democratization of Creativity
One of Scott Dylan’s core beliefs is that AI has the power to democratize creativity, making high-end creative tools accessible to more people. Whether it’s AI-generated art, music production software, or video editing platforms, the technologies supported by NexaTech Ventures are lowering the barriers to entry for aspiring creators.
By providing affordable and intuitive AI-powered tools, startups are enabling more individuals to express themselves creatively, regardless of their technical skills or resources. This democratization of creativity is particularly important in today’s digital age, where content creation has become a key avenue for personal expression, social engagement, and even career opportunities.
Dylan is particularly excited about the potential for AI to open up new opportunities for underrepresented voices in the creative industries. By supporting startups that are committed to making creative tools more accessible, NexaTech Ventures is helping to foster a more diverse and inclusive creative landscape.
Beyond Financial Investment: A Holistic Support System
One of the key strengths of NexaTech Ventures is its holistic approach to supporting startups. While financial backing is crucial, Scott Dylan understands that creative entrepreneurs often need more than just funding to succeed. They need strategic guidance, industry insights, and access to a network of experts who can help them navigate the challenges of scaling their innovations.
NexaTech Ventures provides startups with a comprehensive support system, offering mentorship from seasoned professionals in both the tech and creative industries. Dylan and his team work closely with founders to help them refine their business models, scale their operations, and connect with key players in the market. This hands-on approach ensures that startups have the resources they need to succeed in the highly competitive creative industries.
“Our goal is to help these startups not only develop groundbreaking technologies but also bring them to market and scale their businesses,” Dylan explains. “We want to make sure that the incredible innovations we’re seeing in AI and the creative industries have a real impact on how content is created and consumed.”
Scott Dylan’s Vision for the Future of Creativity
Looking to the future, Scott Dylan is optimistic about the continued convergence of AI and creativity. He envisions a world where AI is seamlessly integrated into the creative process, empowering artists, musicians, filmmakers, and content creators to explore new frontiers in their work. Dylan believes that AI will not replace human creativity but will enhance it, providing creators with powerful tools to realize their visions.
“We’re at the beginning of a creative revolution,” says Dylan. “AI is giving us new ways to express ourselves, new ways to tell stories, and new ways to engage audiences. At NexaTech Ventures, we’re excited to be part of that revolution by supporting the startups that are driving it forward.”
Conclusion
Through NexaTech Ventures, Scott Dylan is fueling a creative revolution powered by AI. By investing in startups that are pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in digital media, music, film, and visual arts, Dylan is helping to shape the future of the creative industries. As AI continues to evolve, the innovations supported by NexaTech Ventures will play a key role in transforming how content is created, distributed, and experienced. Scott Dylan’s vision for the future is clear: a world where AI enhances creativity, democratizes artistic tools, and opens up new opportunities for creators and audiences alike.

Scott Dylan: Barclays Appointment of Rob Patterson — A Safe Move or a Step Backwards for Innovation in Tech Investment Banking?
In a move that some are hailing as a strategic hire, Barclays has appointed Rob Patterson as the new Head of Data & Information Platforms Coverage within its Technology Investment Banking arm. With over 20 years of investment banking experience, primarily at Morgan Stanley, Patterson is being welcomed with open arms. But here’s the question: Is this appointment a true step forward for Barclays, or just another example of a “safe bet” in a rapidly evolving industry that demands fresh perspectives?
Don’t get me wrong, Patterson’s CV is impressive. His extensive client roster, featuring names like Accenture, Nielsen, and YouGov, shows that he can walk the walk. But in an industry where disruption is the new normal, should Barclays really be content with hiring someone who’s essentially cut from the same cloth as every other banking executive? Patterson’s appointment seems to reinforce the age-old investment banking formula — lean on experience, stick to what works, and avoid rocking the boat.
But herein lies the problem: The boat needs to be rocked.
Technology Investment Banking, particularly in data and information platforms, isn’t the same as it was two decades ago when Patterson entered the scene. The pace of change, fuelled by AI, blockchain, and decentralisation, is accelerating. Now, more than ever, this sector requires leaders who can not only navigate today’s landscape but also anticipate tomorrow’s opportunities and challenges.
Does Patterson, with his deep roots in traditional banking, embody the bold, forward-thinking leadership that the tech world craves? Or is Barclays simply reinforcing its comfort zone, doubling down on tried-and-tested leadership at a time when innovation should be the watchword?
Kristin Roth DeClark, Global Head of Technology Investment Banking, claims that Patterson will “deliver significant value for our clients.” But what value is that, exactly? More of the same? Another steady hand in a field that increasingly rewards risk-takers and visionaries? Where are the fresh faces? Where is the push for diversity in thinking and background that could truly propel Barclays into the next frontier of technology investment?
Barclays has already been involved in major transactions, from advising on CVC’s acquisition of Epicor to playing a role in Nuvei Corporation’s $6.3bn sale. But these deals, while significant, are based on the old model of big deals and bigger numbers. Is Barclays missing the opportunity to lead the charge on new tech frontiers like AI and Web3, where fresh thinking is crucial?
Patterson’s appointment might look like a win for Barclays on paper, but it risks signalling that the bank is more interested in maintaining the status quo than in pioneering the next wave of tech investment innovation. Instead of focusing on leaders who have already had their time in the spotlight, Barclays should be looking to those with disruptive mindsets, individuals who can break free from the rigid mould of traditional banking and usher in a new era for tech investment.
I’ve seen firsthand the need for change at Barclays. And while experience has its value, it’s vision and the willingness to take risks that will define the next decade of success in this space. Let’s hope that Patterson — though an undeniably safe pair of hands — can prove me wrong by bringing more than just his experience to the table.
Because in today’s tech world, playing it safe is the riskiest move of all.
Scott Dylan the investor shared this post above, follow him for more such updates in future as well!

Eddie Miyoshi: Elevating Business Plans as Apparel Executive at FORMER, a Retail Fashion & Apparel Brand
When fashion industry trends are combined with creativity, a new style and individuality are born. In this era, fashion and apparel businesses tend to adopt business plans that are more innovative, creative, unique, attractive, trendy, and customer-focused. To enhance and bring customer experience to a new high, brands in the fashion and apparel industry take to building an Apparel and Media business model type. This business model integrates fashion and apparel with media by applying product development skills, strategic retail planning, media-driven marketing and advertising, and merchandising products. The combination of these two industry sectors can contribute to brands enhancing and elevating their brand awareness, visibility, customer engagement, merchandise, and market responsiveness.
In line with building a strong business plan that increases a brand’s presence in the market, here we shall delve into this article that shares deep insights into how an Apparel Executive – Eddie Miyoshi partners with FORMER, an American and independently owned Apparel and Media business, to lead it as a Chief Executive Officer, Partner, and as a General Manager in apparel brand management. FORMER was co-founded by four artistic friends who are all individually talented and skilled, creative and innovative, who came together to build this brand from the ground up with only passion, commitment, and drive for creating, designing, and producing what we like to wear and be a part of. FORMER is a small operation run by Craig Anderson, Dane Reynolds, Austyn Gillette, and the late Dylan Rieder. Established in 2016, the brand is now led by Eddie Myoshi as the CEO since 2020 for managing operations with a strong business plan.
From Passion to A Vision – A Rider-Owned and Operated Clothing Brand:
Co-founders – Craig Anderson, Dane Reynolds, Austyn Gillette, and the late Dylan Rieder founded and established FORMER with the goal that intends to “defy normality, corporate idiosyncrasies, industry traditions, and predictability.” Craig and Dane who share the same passion for surfboarding and Austyn in skateboarding, partnered to do something different and innovative. With individuality in the arts and culture, the four friends came together to “create something cool”. Dane was a best-selling surfboard model who founded two successful surf media platforms, starred in surf films, has friends in the same community, and leads the operations and decisions on the creative aspects of the fashion and apparel brand. Craig another surfboarding enthusiast and family-oriented man is committed to FORMER’s retail strategy goal of being a rider-owned and operated organization that reflects their creative collective for freedom and individuality. Austyn, a pro at skateboarding, met the incredibly talented trio – Craig, Dane, and the late Dylan on a “Team Average” trip. Austyn became fast and easy friends with Dylan – who introduced him to Craig and Dane soon after. This meeting was FORMER’s conception and its idea for a clothing deal was conceptualized.
To stand out from retailers and other fashion and apparel producers, FORMER’s official online website formermerchandise.com has a very retro-grainy look and has black and white images and background. Being unique to their brand in producing premium, quality, and stylish fashion and apparel, FORMER “creates, designs, and produces clothes that people want to wear and be a part of” – a community. Co-founded in 2016 and located in Signal Hill, California, USA, the brand sells its clothes which are produced with great detail and attention to the fabrics and materials used, the fit, color, quality, and affordability of the community.
The Apparel Executive Redefining FORMER with A Business Plan:
Dane Reynolds, the co-founder of FORMER comments on the brand’s introduction to the market by saying that “…It was really just an idea. We didn’t have any business plan or strategy or angle, we were just like ‘We don’t align with any brands in our industry so let’s make shit that we like!” On how FORMER was started and how he felt about the brand, Dane reminisces saying, “I ran it out of my garage for 18 months. It was gnarly, but I loved it. I loved handling the product and talking to customers. But in reality, we were just treading water.” With no actual foundation and business plan built to fortify the brand and its goals in customer experience enhancement, the co-founders at FORMER brought in an Apparel Executive with over 25 years of expertise in the field to come and join in driving the brand’s mission of fostering a brand’s identity that deeply connects the lifestyles and cultures of its co-founders while focusing on the creativity, customer engagement, authenticity, and individuality.
Eddie Myoshi, an expert in architecting and developing profitable and sustainable business models for streetwear and lifestyle brands, joined FORMER in 2020. Imparting his 25 years of expertise in the field at FORMER, Eddie oversees the general management areas of the business in “Manufacturing and Distribution, Product and Fashion Business Development, Sales/Marketing, and the Executive Management of wholesale, e-commerce, and bricks-and-mortar channels.” Acting as the Chief Executive Officer and Partner of FORMER, Eddie “has taken our idea and turned it into a real business with a plan. It’s been exciting working with someone with experience and logical, rational, and strategic thinking”, shares Dane Reynolds. Before joining FORMER, Eddie was the President at VOLCOM, the CEO at HUF Worldwide Apparel, the Founder of Factory 344 LLC, a Board Member/Partner at Mixwell Worldwide Inc., and a General Manager/Partner at Rivvia Projects. While still managing operations at FORMER, Eddie co-founded Kasa Maison in 2022.
Further commenting on FORMER, Eddie shares that, “The interesting thing about building a brand like FORMER based on athletes and creatives, is we don’t have a predetermined, targeted, and planned position in the market. The co-founders are seen enough in carrying the question of market position and competitive advantage.” Positioning the brand to overcome the near-term macroeconomic challenges, and constantly changing in line with the ever-evolving innovation in fashion retail and the apparel industry, Eddie leads FORMER to its glory in achieving global expansions and brand-building from what Dane, Craig, and the late Dylan have specially built.
