1.Marinette

yes. we shall start with the protagonist herself.

I will go step by step with each topic.

1. Character

as the show is showing (get it), Marinette is a sweet, outgoing, young, and joyful girl who loves fashion, her family and friends and is your average protagonist.

I can keep the outgoing and sympathetic traits in Marinette. and I appreciate the writers for adding the low self-esteem, clumsiness and being a people pleaser, much like any other high schooler.

2. Flaws

I have so many issues with this. She's basically what people call, a Mary Sue. aka a character who is portrayed as perfect, can do no wrong, never faces any problems or the ones that they do face, they can solve within a page, as shown that she solves all the problems in the same episode.

Then, I would change the 'obsessive stalker' thing. As a teenage girl myself, crushes are not THIS borderline obsessive, like memorizing schedules and having extreme jealousy even if a girl looks in his direction. I'd change that Marinette DOES have a crush on Adrien, but she doesn't show it out much and tries to act normal to not creep him, unlike the show.

Then is the trauma. I feel that in the show, Mari's trauma is not exactly taken seriously, even though it is. She faced bullying and harassment, mainly from Chloe (I'll be going into detail about Chloe later), nightmares from Chat Blanc and more. those show how she has trust issues and low self-esteem, and it's just brushed off. I would dive deeper into her feelings and experiences as a victim.

3. Ladybug

Honestly, Ladybug is all Marinette wishes to be but can't. she's the sassy, self-confident, strong hero of Paris, and is shown to be 'Perfect'. I would actually add that in Mari like letting her inner LB show more and being what she's trying to be outside of the red-black spotted mask. I would make LB show some characters of Mari and vice versa.

4. Design

I like Mari's design but it's a bit too, simple. I would add some more, originality, like other colours than Pink and Grey. I would make her experiment more with fashion trends and designs, she's an aspiring designer, let it show!. Her pigtails are a nice way to remember Socqueline, but I'd make her change hairstyles often. For LB, I'd make it scream FASHION ICON. the suit is too bland for a designer, add more patterns, style and colours, and take inspiration from other attires like Dragonbug/Ladybee/Pegabug/BugNoire.

I would also add that she is known in the fashion sector, as in my rewrite she gets an apprenticeship under Gabriel, cause he was clearly impressed by her derby hat design. And she was acknowledged by Audrey Bourgeois, who is the 'queen of fashion' and I'm pretty sure she's like the Anna Wintour of the mlb universe, so that would definitely give Mari some more in depth to her dreams and passion for fashion.

RE: ML demo disc: WOW! That's weird as hell hahah!! I asked some wiki/lore guys about it and not a single one of us has any idea who that is on the save icon. Can you tell me some more about the disc itself, like who published it and what else is on it? Is it just Missing Link? Sometimes gaming magazines back in the day had these discs so maybe if we can hunt that issue down we can find out more about who this weird save icon guy is. We're all fascinated by this thing now lol

I'd love to! So this is part of the Playstation Underground jampack line of demo disc's and this one specifically is the summer 1999 disc. There's a few demos on it for Ape Escape, 3Xtreme, Bloody Roar 2, the next tetris, MLB 2000, elmos letter adventure, r4 ridge racer type 4, Tony hawks pro skater and xena warrior princess. It also included videos of cool things you could do in games like a 40 hit dhalsim combo and platinum relics in crash 3. Other bits include behind the scenes interviews with WCW, an import of a game called gangway monsters, a tech q&a for pocket alpha 3 and finally of course, the weird ass save cheats. Now the ones on here are Guilty Gear, team lost RC racer, test drive off road and darkstalkers 3 and in the memory card, darkstalkers is normal, thats its icon on the memory card normally, I can't test for the other two because i cant find thier icon to save my life but they look normal enough for me to question why guilty gear is the exception. Hell normally guilty gears is baldhead which is the weirdest part because that means they did this on purpose. I think it was just a developer having fun but it's so weird I love it.

Chapter Nine: That Saturday Kept Getting Worse

With the show over, the gathered audience slowly began filtering out of the concert hall.  The design students and models were still preoccupied backstage with changing, packing up, and meeting the various industry heads and university advisors that had been invited.  Potential contacts, future mentors and leaders in their field…networking, essentially.  The big names out in force to scoop up Paris’s promising rising talent before their competitors could sink their claws in and nab them first.  That thought was only reinforced when Luka saw Gabriel Agreste disappear backstage to speak with the design students.  With his father gone and his status as the Face of Agreste currently unneeded, Adrien was free to make his way over to them to say hello, but he had barely had a chance to greet Tom and Sabine – let alone ask Luka how things had worked out, and Luka could tell from the way his eyes kept darting to him (to his hands) that he had questions – before Gabriel was gathering him up with a curt nod and an unsettling look towards Luka.  Luka would have said it was disapproval (he was sure someone like Gabriel Agreste viewed his earlier antics in poor taste), but there was some deeper suspicion in that look that set Luka’s teeth on edge.

…it was probably just because he, like most of the people who knew Adrien personally and had interacted with the industry icon, hated his guts.  He was sure Gabriel was well aware of that fact.

Once they were gone, and Tom and Sabine had been distracted by another set of parents they knew, Alya approached him.

“Hey,” she said, her voice low.  He looked up from where he was sitting on a chair back, his arms resting on his knees and his hands fidgeting between them.  He was absently picking at the polish on his thumb as he scanned the thinning crowd, but his attention turned to her when she stopped awkwardly by his side.  She was looking at her feet, a hand rubbing along her arm.  “I just wanted to apologize.  I’m so sorry.  I didn’t…I was so focused on getting you here.  I didn’t even stop to look.  See who else might’ve been there.”

In all fairness, Luka wondered if he should have expected her to immediately recognize Andrew, even if she had stopped to look.  She had only seen him the one time, after all.

Bailey Ober #CleatWatch, A 2024 Retrospective

As usual, I was researching something else Twins-related when I had an idea for a very niche and granular Twins research post. In this case, I stumbled upon the TikTok account of Bailey Ober's cleat supplier and realized I could make a fun cleats by appearance tracker for him like I did for Duran (2023, 2024). Unlike Duran and other players whose cleat game I've noticed prior, who focus on 1-of-1 customization using commissioned graphic designs, Ober is more of a brand/model-focused guy who customizes via pre-existing colorways.

Prior to working with his current cleat supplier, Ober was very straightforward in cleat usage: three pairs of Nike Alpha Huarache Elite 4 Lows, in different colors for pairing with different uniforms. I learned when researching Duran that the Nike Huarache line is very popular among baseball players, and that's definitely borne out.

The red base with dark red accents is Ober's road choice, the white upper/navy lower is for his home alts, both navy and cream, and the white upper/red lower is for home whites. Two interesting notes: Ober uses a pitching toe on all his cleats to protect the trailing cleat from damage. Second, he rarely wears the home whites (Twins starting pitchers choose the game's uniform whenever possible), only 5 times this season in 15 home starts. The full numbers I'll have to break down in another post, but he and Paddack are home navy aficionados.

After his April 20th win against the Tigers, Ober was contacted by local influencer and sneakerhead Charley "Winona Kicks" McClay, who offered to supply him with custom cleats. They started with the extremely popular and iconic Nike Kobe 6 Protro "Reverse Grinch", a 2023 update to an even more iconic 2010 Kobe shoe. Ober is only the second MLB player to wear Reverse Grinch cleats, after Triston McKenzie of the Guardians.

6/4/24: Despite losing their debut game against the Yankees, Ober's cleats caught the attention of sneakerhead and sports fashion communities. He alternates between the Reverse Grinches and his original two-tone red cleats for his pre-All-Star break road starts, plus a snazzy pairing with the 4th of July uniforms.

6/16/24: For the City Connect uniforms, Ober and Winona Kicks decided on the Nike KD 3 "Christmas" 2023. They fit in nicely with the predominantly bright yellow accessories rocked by Ober's teammates. As the video mentions, the Reverse Grinches were damaged without a pitching toe, so Ober adds one manually to this and other cleats as needed.

7/22/24: Ober returned to the Kobe 6 model with the "Mambacita" colorway, which replaces the Reverse Grinches as his main cleat to kick off the best stretch of his career. He and Winona Kicks were both very excited about these, and they apparently live up to the hype, as Ober pairs them with a different uniform each time out.

8/9/24: Ober debuted the first of two new pairs, the Kobe 6 "Italian Camo". These are the last cleats he wears more than once; he wears 7 different pairs in his last 7 starts of the season, which seems kind of excessive. He pairs them with the home whites and road grays.

8/15/24: There's a small mystery with this cleat delivery — Winona Kicks posted the video on 8/22, but Ober was clearly wearing the KD 3 "All-Star" 2023 cleats from this video several days prior in his start against the Rangers. There are oddly few pictures of this start online, but they're visible on the broadcast paired with the road grays.

8/26/24: The other cleats from this delivery, Ober only wears the Kobe 4 "Philly" cleats once as well, paired with the home navy he seems to love. They're a nice statement piece, but he got absolutely lit up in them, which might be why he switched to other options.

9/1/24: The Kobe 8 "Halo" cleats were from the 8/9 delivery but went unused for a while because Ober wanted them for a home start. They end up paired with the cream alternates on Barbie Theme Day.

9/18/24: In a fun Minnesota sports crossover, Ober's next cleats are Adidas AE 1 Low "MX Grey", the signature shoe of the Timberwolves' Anthony Edwards. I'm kind of surprised Nike didn't have a problem with Ober wearing Adidas shoes, but we'll take it. Ober wore them well, setting a new single-game career high in strikeouts with 12 (previously 11, set two months prior in the Mambacitas).

9/24/24: Back to Nike, this time custom Sabrina 2s, all-white with a metallic red swoosh, silver accents on the soles and Ober's #17 in very small print on the heel. He goes pretty simple for his first real custom shoe, designing it to match the home whites.

Overall, it seems the partnership between Ober and Winona Kicks was a huge success, seeing as how Ober became a fashion model by season's end. The two collaborated on a whopping nine pairs of cleats, bring Ober to a total of 12 on the season. For reference, that's twice as many cleats as Duran in 2024 in a little over half the games, though three times the innings.

I've learned a lot from my research about basketball shoe culture and the current state of MLB cleat fashion, and this partnership has vaulted Ober up the cleat fashion rankings. He'll never be Tatis in this field, who has an unmatched combination of brand strength, creativity, and thoughtful design, but Ober is carving out his own niche pioneering trendy signature basketball shoes in MLB. He is the only MLB player to wear AE1 or Sabrina cleats, and one of three to wear Kobe cleats (Triston McKenzie, Oswaldo Cabrera).

Tracking Twins players' cleats has proven to be a pretty interesting topic, and introduced me to a lot of trends and terminology I had no idea existed. I might do deep dives on more players (I know SWR has some cool cleats), but I'm also just looking forward to see what Ober and other guys do next year.

Cuba native Luis Tiant, "El Tiante," in a #MLB career that spanned 19 seasons, made three All-Star teams and won 20 or more games four times. He also won two ERA titles in the American League; one in 1968 for Cleveland, and another in 1972 for Boston. Tiant also pitched for the #Yankees, #Twins, #Pirates, and #Angels. He passed away today at the age of 83.

I remember watching Luis Tiant pitch in the 1975 World Series against the Reds. He shut out the Big Red Machine in Game 1 and threw another complete game win in Game 4. Baseball has certainly lost another icon.
