My partner went to watch the new episode of Tower of God on Crunchyroll today, and found the subtitles had been mixed up with either a different episode or show.
Tumblr media
This big tough bad guy seemed to be arrogantly monologing before starting a fight with the protagonists. He was also very concerned about his love life.
Tumblr media
These two, standing off to the side, weapons in hand, had a heartfelt conversation about romantic girls who wear red dresses.
Tumblr media
This guy was very concerned about his manicure after blowing up a mountainside with a fireball.

still absolutely baffled by the fact that when the untamed got popular on here you had people posting stuff like "i know it seems kind of weird and confusing for the first couple of episodes but don't worry, it picks up after that" like what the hell are you talking about. i loved the first couple of episodes. i was having the time of my life right from the opening monologue and it only got better from there.

Did Suk finally make enough money from subscriptions to hire a real translator? The subtitle quality is much improved, and actually got better for the free release.
Early release subs (top) vs regular release subs (bottom)
Tumblr media
I had figured out what a job study group was, given the context of the episode, but a job search study group is a lot clearer.

The overall sentiment is similar, but I like flirty-eye smiles more because I totally see it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Again, the overall meaning is the same, but the 2nd sub provides more detail and is more grammatically correct.
Tumblr media
The 2nd subber even threw in some slang lol.
Tumblr media
This was the only sub that was completely different from each other. The Chinese sub has it as "Did anyone try to seduce you?", which is closer to the early release sub. The first sub also makes more sense considering that Nami says he trusts Jaemin after. Any thoughts @vickyawesome99?

watching skinamarink on shudder and the delay between the subtitles and video is so bad that it keeps spoiling every scare and creepy thing full seconds in advance but this movie is too damn quiet to understand half the dialogue without without them :/

i finally watched nope (on my plane ride home lol... sorry 2 my seat mate) and my god!!!!! i dont know what it is about jordan peele specifically but he really does make horror movies that are Perfect For Me as in they are just the right combination of scary shit to social commentary to humor to beautiful cinematography. i think i might like nope more than get out? which is saying something bc that remains one of my favorite films (let alone horror films!). i still havent watched us yet bc to be frank it looked scarier and i am still a baby about horror in that i can handle some but if it gets too creepy i cant do it. but i yearn to watch it bc i really like how peele tells stories.

seconding this purely because i once watched a series with two romance plots going on in the background
one of the plots was about two servants in the royal palace's kitchens, who were like. obviously in love with eachother. but trying to hide it because professionally the servants aren't meant to date eachother or something? and they just got worse and worse at hiding it over time as they fell more in love. and i thought that was really cute.
the other plot was about a married couple who didn't really have a role in the story other than being friends with one of the palace's servants. and they were just trying to navigate married life while trying to set up their own business and buy a house together and stuff like that. become independent enough to leave their main jobs. i never really understood why they were in the story.
...turns out, its because the two couples above were actually THE SAME COUPLE and i NEVER FREAKING NOTICED
asdfghjkl anyway yeah brown-haired white-person identification systems would be great
i would like to propose a new accessibility feature for movies where every time a brown-haired white man comes on screen they tell me which one he is

Aye, especially your point about scripted media, like, girls, please you've already got it all written down. No one needs to transcribe it, it's a copy paste job for the actual text component of the subtitle dialogue.
I, a hearing person who likes subtitles just as a preference, shouldn't have to read a subtitle that's obvious nonsense, go back a couple seconds, and listen again in order to figure out what's going on. An accessibility feature should not be the most half-assed part of a professionally made production. Scripted media has absolutely no excuse for not having subtitles or having subtitles that aren't perfectly verbatim. Professional captioning services should be ashamed of the shoddy work that they put out. Captions should be treated as a part of the production, just like filming, editing, audio balancing, etc - and anything that releases with missing or bad captions should be seen as unfinished

//Unrelated but if you are wondering, when I write ooc and I say things like 'dear' or 'uuhhh' or stuff like that it's literally because Emma says it. It's not like 'oh she talks like that and so she makes her character talks like her', I'm Italian. And I end up absorbing the linguistic choices that I'm reading/hearing the most, it keeps changing, but because I make Emma talk like that I end up "talking" like that too (kinda like having a friend who keeps saying 'dude' and then you end up going 'dude-ah crap' because it got into your head)
which not only makes my English worse but then it makes Emma's English worse because those are the words I get fixated on, I forget the others, and it just. keeps getting worse.
