This drama has a mixture of a lot of genres all rolled up into one. It’s kind of like a family, law, crime, mystery, thriller all wrapped into one. The storyline is pretty well cohesively written as well as the characters were too. The only downside I saw for series was the chemistry for the main leads. Acting for both of them we’re excellent, I just wasn’t feeling it between them.

I don't know Japanese well and also wasn't able to recongnize some of the kanjis and also couldn't make out the highlights in the photo. All the highlights that I couldn't make out are written as "XXX"

Some of this stuff was said in an old blog on the Space Channel 5 website and can be seen with the web archive, but there is new information here as well

She is in "Normal Reporter Mode" for normal incidents, and transforms into "Super Reporter Mode" during emergencies to give a "groovy report" while being active and steaming herself.

When in "super" mode, she wears a headphone XXX to maintain tension, and hides her body by listening to music sent from Channel 5. Tension Blaster products equipped in both hands.

The tension baster she emits is also amazingly thick and XXX.

She was saved from the incident 10 years ago, and she is inspired by XXX (though she didn't know what it was) to become successful. She is secretly hoping to be like that person someday.

Space Pirates

Space Pirates who mess with the space broadcasting. They broadcast in a partisan manner from all over the galaxy.

They are a bunch of free spirits who are relatively springy and open-minded.

Although they do some "pirate" activities at first, they are basically a family of righteous people.

Formerly Channel 69's signature reporter, currently a backup, he was injured in an incident 10 years ago and can't call Jaguar, who was (allegedly) responsible for the incident, a friend.

He backs up the main character from the space relay Astrobeat.

He also customizes the supplied camera and repairs and adjusts various items (as a hobby).

He is a toy-enjoyer and an ironist.

He and Channel 69's Wave 1 & 2 were classmates in school (although they are much different in age because of the Noize's leapfrogging). They are not close friends at all, but he recognizes their abilities.

Boss of the main character. He used to work with Jaguar.

He is suspicious of Blank's activities and is conducting his own investigation.

As his name suggests, he is scary when he loses his temper.

Whole body is something like an agar-agar state. Tall. Can transform the body to some extent.

Beast-shaped, large in stature, but very sensitive in soul. A man of common sense and motion, he is also an NHK (The Japan Broadcasting Corporation) announcer. A veteran.

Hello my mutuals (this is for the jdrama friends -- especially the weekly VIVANT era gang): Anyone watching Mikami-sensei?

Because I'm definitely going to be posting like crazy about it because asdhfjkdshlfdhsjlf it is so good so far. I'm going to track all you down and see if you're chatting about it because I miss our little weekly tumblr gab-sessions.

Writer? From The Journalist (film version I think). I can see the possible threads and the mystery burgeoning but we have so little info so far and I mean that in the best way possible

Cinematography and Director? Yanpi aka the co-director from VIVANT (aka it looks beautiful.)

Producer? Seems to be IidaP, also from VIVANT.

OST? Shiro Sagisu aka you know him mostly for his work on the BLEACH anime (and Eva I believe?). I believe it's been 10+ years since he's made an OST for a jdrama. This one is so beautiful so far.

Cast?

Wow. Uh. How did they assemble all of these people? My TV/screen is in danger.

Also: holy moly. Two more were revealed in episode 2 and I'm like "HELP I NEED TO TALK TO SOMEONE ABOUT THIS??????"

Mitsuhiro Oikawa is channeling some kind of smiley-happy-handsome-older colleague who could ruin your life energy,....but that may be me? It would be something new for him if this is the direction they'll go with his character!

Brief non-spoilery thoughts on Episode 2:

(Episode 2 had a reference to a famous drama and its recent Reiwa sequel and I had to laugh. I hope there'll be more of these hidden here and there. It really is a series that makes you take in each scene's framing and characters' demeanors. Everything is subtle, but beautifully so. Student cast is wonderful. One kid has MIU404 Ibuki energy at times, to me. There's other things I want to discuss, but I'll save that for another post!)

finished grand maison tokyo on netflix!

pretty fun drama - i enjoyed gawking at whatever 2fancy4me dish they were coming up with this time and i was very invested in their little band of chefs and their charming friendships by the end. great implementation of their cast of handsome ossans in particular. i've never really felt much towards sawamura ikki or oikawa mitsuhiro in the roles i've seen them in before this but suddenly i'm like *twirling my hair* oh hey cuties. that they made oikawa's character a crybaby and sawamura's character be awkward around his crush... so moe

as a show it's maybe. a little at odds with itself thematically. so much time spent on how striving for these stupid michelin stars ruined several of their lives back in france, how the system is totally capable of being rigged by rich assholes, how the world of fine dining can be so pointlessly stressful and one minor human error under that pressure can end your career for years... and then it still comes down to the importance of getting stars from that puffy white tire bitch. like. maybe we should've fully pivoted to the real stars being the friends you made along the way.

but otoh. i do get it. in a show about a competitive field you kinda want the main characters to win the big competition at end. and you know what? i was happy for them when they did.

UTENA CONTENT DROP!

Hey. These are all five of the Utena-related mini-disc CD singles! That's right *even the movie Akio one.* It has taken me a long time to get all of these, and while I've long had their information available on Audiology, you can now check out the re-vamped page for exhaustive high-resolution scans of the packaging, and links to... :) These copies were made by me direct from the disc, and some of the B-Sides here have been very hard for Utena fans to find!! (Hint: The version of the song from the movie's end credits is this guy's single.)

FOR EXAMPLE. The copy of the first ending, Truth (titled R&D mix,) that is on the CD single is different from the version that appears on the soundtracks, or even on the other single where it's bundled with the OP. As far as I know it's just a variation on the opening, but not having direct access to these discs has meant a couple decades of just kinda...hoping you found the right file somewhere. Well. Now you have! Eat up!!! PS. The versions you download from the page are much higher quality MP3 rips---I had to downscale this to convince Tumblr to share it. Hah!
