seeing some preview pics in passing and i can't believe they're giving those boys in gavv a stuck together trope episode... sentai seems to be going rather self-aware this year so i guess it's up to rider now to do all the silly tropes in earnest 🫡

been having a strange Media Experience lately that i feel like i need to share with everyone. the process was this

watch a yt vid about video games based on ringu/the ring.

learn that there was a jpn-only visual novel-esque now-defunct phone game called Sadako M: Mikaiketsu Jiken Tantei Jimusho where you help out at a detective agency and solve murders and. sadako & her cursed tape is involved. or something

become oddly fixated on this game just bc the premise seems fun and the older detective character has a handsome design.

no way to play it anymore or understand it even if there was so i find a jpn blog where the blogger describes the events of each chapter and i MTL them to get a vague idea of the story.

they keep mentioning how certain things are expounded upon further in something called "tokyo psycho". tf is that?

apparently the devs of Sadako M released a direct sequel to it ft. many of the exact same characters for PC/console and titled it "tokyo psychodemic". which somehow has an english release??

start to watch a playthrough.

characters in tokyo psychodemic are frequently musing on and alluding to the events of Sadako M that no english speaker ever got to play or even knows existed, but they also didn't have the rights to ringu anymore when they were making this so none of them are allowed to mention that sadako the scary ghost girl who lives in a well and kills people with her cursed vhs was involved in the things they're talking about. she just gets excised from the narrative entirely.

i get the distinct impression that the ringu branding was kind of awkwardly tacked on to Sadako M in the first place so that the devs could get more funding/eyes on their original story about a supernatural cult, but even so. quite funny to me

the character who got me into this mess in the first place is barely even in the sequel bc he's now in prison for a crime he didn't commit. also he's voiced by terasoma who i'm never gonna say no to except he fully sounds like a foxy grandpa at this point in his career and the character in question is only like 40 so his voice is decidedly too old for him...?

in conclusion: truly there are many unknown video games in this world. and now i know a little more about some of them.
