ironically every other cutie honey version is either like painfully straight or painfully homophobic. most often both.

I find my relationship with Hideaki Anno's work so funny. I love his live action material, especially his tokusatsu work like the Shin trilogy with Higuchi and his Cutie Honey movie.

But I just do not care about Evangelion. I don't think it's bad, I haven't watched it so I can't form an opinion on it, but it's a boat I feel like I missed and it's a show that feels like homework. Like, I wouldn't watch it because I want to engage with it, but because it's a show "I need to watch". So I just never got to it. Maybe I will someday, if anything just to see how it fits thematically with the rest of Anno's work.

HONEYMATION!

Cutie Honey (2004) is worth watching just for scenes like this. The effects don't even come close to approaching anything resembling realism, which is why they ended up being so fun.
