River song is the best executed story arc in all of fiction (at least all that I’ve seen) and it’s not even close

Her first appearance is her death, both the audience and the doctor don’t know anything about her, but she already knows everything about him. Imagine a woman greets you with a kiss and says she’s your wife but you’ve never seen her before.

When she dies, sure it’s sad because a character we’ve spent two hours getting to know just died, but it’s not any sadder than that.

But then she turns up later. And again. And again. We learn to fall in love with the character, just like the doctor, but always with the nagging thought that any day could be the day when she goes to the library, and meets her end. We learn how interconnected her and the doctor are, we watch them get married, and eventually we see her one last time in a glorious send off to the character, the last time she saw the doctor before going to the library.

But that’s not where the story ends.

On a rewatch, you get the silence in the library, and you see this character that you’ve grown to love over whole doctor’s lifespans, but the doctor doesn’t recognise you. Now, you’re in river’s shoes. You understand all the references she makes, but the doctor is just blank. And when she sacrifices herself, you realise that the last time she saw the doctor was exactly what you saw in the last river episode. It’s so flawlessly executed over a whole decade, and I love her to pieces.

I love the Cabin family in the middle of nowhere idea people seem to do with the rescued toys.

Though I must ask... Where would they sleep?

How big would the main house be? Depending on how many floors and rooms, it could hold a lot but there'd be a lot of traffic with how big some toys are.

And on a bit of the jokier side.

... I pity the poor fools who think robbing this farm is a good idea.

I like to believe they started with a house and a barn. The bigger toys would take the barn while the smaller ones fit in the house. Over time they would build an even bigger barn and add sheds/tiny homes to evenly dispute everyone.

The bigger bodies would take the barns, the medium size toys would take the sheds and tiny homes, while the smaller ones stayed with the Player in the house! The traffic was and still is a nightmare, but once they built the extra spaces it wouldn’t be as bad as back then.

Also those poor souls may or may not be missed…

I sometimes think its weird that everyone must have a 'favourite doctor'. I get the appeal, but how its so wide spread baffles me.

Theyre all one person, in the end, with each regeneration being all that came before and more, and a little different due to the experiences they had and the people theyve met, just how I am different from when I was 15 years old, but still the same.

I have a favourite doctor for conveniency reasons, mostly, 12- but even then, whats a 'favourite doctor'. My favourite performance? My favourite to have a fun time with? My favourite to make me aspire to be better? My favourite to laugh, my favourite to cry for? Theyre all different. I love 12 as much as I love 1 or 2 or 3 or 4. Maybe I have incarnations I dont feel as strongly for, but thats usually out of unfamiliarity with all they went through and by such an inability to truly grasp who the doctor was when they wore that face (e.g. my only experience with 8 being the tv movie) or because they amplify parts of the doctor Im less fond of (e.g. six being a little mean).

But in the end, theyre all of it anyway? All of the Doctor is mean, whether its the first doctor or the sixth or the tenth, all doctors are kind, whether its the second or fourth or 12th or 14th, all of the doctor has experienced grief, all of them is strong willed, brave, afraid.

I like the idea of having a 'favourite'. To me its a little like your favourite actors role, I love david tennants hamlet more than I like his alec hardy, but I still love his acting, period.

But this obsession of needing a favourite doctor, of needing to love one part of this beautiful, incredible character more than others, often it feels unfair to who they are. This grand person being reduced to a few years of their endlessly long life. To a single face.

Maybe that's what feels so real about thoschei. Companions tend to get attached to a face. To this one part. To the master the current doctor's body is secondary.

"Doesn't matter which face he was wearing, they're all the Doctor to me."

And they are, in fact, all the Doctor.

half hearted rant under the cut

i don't wanna be completely negative about s2 but can we please stop making bi and other mspec characters cheaters??? there was already a sour taste in my mouth when kitty (the only canon mspec character) almost kissed yuri in s1 but this season they just really went for it anddd for what reason? just for a way to end her crush on yuri and to half heartedly give yuri something to do (try to fix the relationship she ruined) for the rest of the season?

if they wanted kittyuri out the way then fine, even though i'm a huge shipper of them u can't win all ur endgames sure whatever i'd be upset obviously but not as upset as i am with this. they could have ended kitty's (and yuri's) crush in so many different ways but they chose to do the cheating route and i know this is a common choice for teen shows and i dont want to be complaining over something that's not a big deal but it just sucks seeing so many mspec characters be given this trope when so many people still stereotype us as cheaters and never satisfied and a risk to date.

obviously it's not every mspec character and i'm really grateful for that but i still don't get why at a time these stereotypes still affect mspec people alot, so many characters are still giving this storyline. like idk it seems easy to avoid and you're not giving in to stereotypes. like ik the end goal is that bi and other mspec rep is so common it won't matter what stereotypes they have but it kinda feels like it's still too early. like all but 2 of the canon mspec characters i can think of in tv/film in the past like 3 years were in cheater storylines

i don't wanna make issues where there isn't none like i don't wanna act like the show is really biphobic or something bc i don't think that was the intention at all i think it was really just awkward decision making i just wish it didn't go that way and i don't wanna act like this is the only or the most important issue with this season bc there is quite a few but yeah i just idk i feel like i'm making a big deal out of nothing now but ik this annoyed other people too so it's just yeah it's frustrating and i hoped they wouldn't go this route but they did.
