Double Arch seen through Cove Arch, Arches National Park, Utah, USA
© Jeff Foott
Minden Pictures
Picture a red horizon and bright blue skies. That’s how you’re greeted by Arches National Park in Utah! This unique landscape began forming 65 million years ago, when an ancient dry seabed occupied the spot where these incredible arches now stand. Over time, the forces of nature shaped the sandstone, forming mind-blowing structures. And there are quite a few! There are more than 2,000 natural stone arches, the largest concentration in the world. In today’s image, we can see two of them: Double Arch, framed by Cove Arch. The largest arch in Double Arch spans an impressive 43.9 metres and soars 34.1 metres into the air. In 1929, this natural treasure was protected as a national monument, and on this day in 1971 it officially became a national park.

📷--Cheryl Campbell
Name: Marie Louise Jolie de La Riviere
Fc: Cheryl Campbell
Family: Husband: Michel Du Motier, Marquis de La Lafayette & Son: Marie-Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert Du Motier Marquis de Lafayette
Place of Birth: 1737 Chaveniac, France
Gender: Cis Female
Pronouns: She/her
Sexuality: Straight
Personality: Adoring, aristocratic, soft and diplomatic
Backstory: She was a young mother who was very smitten with Michel. Blessedly of the same aristocratic class, the match was almost made in heaven. After being married a short while, she became an early widow after Michel was killed in the battle of Minden during the Seven Years War. She continued to raise little Lafayatte until he was twelve when she grew sick and died. She left to her darling son and most precious treasure all of her wealth. Unfortunately, she never got to see him become a successful member of the French Royal Army nor his successes in America nor did she get to oversee his wedding to Marie Adrienne Francoise De Noailles.
Marie has a huge heart for the humanities-- art, music, and reading. She never boasted her intellect, rather she allows her personality and knowledge to shine for itself.

All of these found in Minden, Louisiana (first two are from a place called Heavenly Treasures, I forgot the name of the place the rest are from but it's right next to the first place so it won't be hard to find-)
1) these are definitely haunted
2) why does it have yoda ears.
3) grandpa biker tiger that I regret not getting (and might go back for)
4) a friendly little face amidst the goose in the back whistling constantly
5) my first sillysculpt found in the wild
6) Mississippi salt and pepper shakers. this isn't Mississippi.
And the last image is my haul!
Left to right:
Some kid's wolf statue, Rex the tyrannosaurus beanie baby, scp looking cat pillow (my girlfriend named her Scrimblo), and the infamous Inch (who was in the packaging but it was nasty so I threw it out)

Hiányoljátok a sztorikat s írásokat, hát íme. 12 éve Londonból hazatérve kezelésbe vettem a kiürült családi házat, szabadjon megjegyeznem, emberektől ürült ki, tárgyaktól épp ellenkezőleg, vagyis épp lomlerakattá változott. A lakás lakhatóvá tételének kalandjai közben éjjelente írással lazítottam az idegeimet, akkor született ez a mennyiséghatározó:
- x -
A segítséggel végzett munka a FélkilóWatt, amint neve is sugallja, kicsivel könnyebb. Quark-állandó – Quark egy ferengi báros a Deep Space 9 fedélzetén, ő fogalmazta meg egyszer, hogy „The only constant in the Universe is that females are trouble” (az Univerzum egyetlen állandója, hogy a nő csak gond). Idő4 – 6:51am. Kéne aludni legalább egy órát*, lásd: Idő3 *szerintem

pruaus (i just wanna hear more)
I'm gonna answer this one first so it isn't answered in the next one. ew / nonono / maybe / ship it / aww / otp / MY HEART this is my main thing. we all know this. i don't even know where to start!! i'm going to try to do a cut here because WOW this turned out to be long well ok first thing's first, my gilbert is pretty canon divergent. he's an old bastard, as a lot of them now are, esp the balts in general so like. this different background affects him a lot, and he was pretty antagonistic towards roderich in the beginning? austria helped in the northern crusades after all, but gilbert Did learn not to hold that against everyone fairly quickly. still, that's their first meeting. they kinda just didn't give too much of a damn about each other until prussia's independence in 1657. gil now had to actually live with his husband, whom he detested. so he just... enthusiastically volunteered to go to austria's court as an extra representative. the other reps (minden, mark, cleves, etc) were needed in their own territories. while brandenburg was the one with the elector's seat, he was also the more "important" one of the two soooo... gil got away! this leads to gilbert thinking that roderich is a safe place, because, comparatively, he is. they're both in their mid/late teens at this point and do develop an attachment to each other. gilbert has his first crush on a dude, and roderich... sees a way to piss antonio off lmfao. gil gets his teenage joker gilcel moment when roderich tries to make things happen again with toni, but does wrestle a kingdom title out of it by helping rod. still in joker mode, silesian wars happen. they hate each other, though gil does just become a bit more apathetic to roderich during this time. after this, he's Not A Fan of roderich at all, until the polish partitions. working with two people to get your sister's (nyo!prussia, maria) birthplace back does that to a man. it was a tense friendship, and roderich got his own taste of unrequited love, since gilbert was head over heels w fritz at the time. they grow closer during the napoleonic wars, and gilbert is seeking comfort to fill in the hole in his heart from fritz's death, as well as the sheer humiliation he felt from losing so much to france. thus! the battle of leipzig is where i have their first kiss :) totally spur of the moment, definitely awkward afterwards. their relationship grows more official as the demand for a unified germany grew. tbh i can't say anything too certain abt how the germany twins (monika and ludwig) came about because this isn't my era, but this relationship did end in the custody battle that gilbert won. ... he also eloped with romania in the middle of this. what can i say? he was pissed! he was even more angered at the austro-hungarian marriage. at the end of wwi, all of that crumbled apart, though, and gilbert returned to roderich with his tail between his legs and they started anew. they kept in good contact during his days in the DDR (for the circumstances), though they were able to talk less and less as the years went on. international affairs such as the olympics were treasured by them as gilbert was able to meet up freely with roderich there. their relationship was definitely tense at that point-- gilbert feared roderich going back to toni, and roderich feared gilbert going back to romania-- and, well. drunken and not-so-drunken mistakes happen. they worked past it! present day, they have their son, kugelmugel (leopold) and gilbert lives 50/50 between potsdam and vienna, though he is able to spend more time with his family now that remote work is an option. he represents the state of brandenburg, so he and roderich have a nice relationship that isn't strained by any impending death lmfao. the stars were totally crossed against them, but they made it work, damn it!!!!

The Hunchback of Notre Dame: Out There (Hungarian + English translation) Inspired by this post: https://sciogli-lingua.tumblr.com/post/177269746040/the-hunchback-of-notre-dame-out-there-german
A világ rút, a világ álnok
The world is ugly, the world is treacherous
Believe me, that I’m your only friend
Nem szeret más, csak én
Nobody loves you, but me
Én, ki védlek, tested lelked óvom
Me, who protects you, your body and your soul
Bennem bízhatsz csak e főltekén
You can only trust me in this land
Maradj hát itt bent, fiam s ez ódon tornyok rejtekén
Stay in here then, my son, and in these ancient towers’ hiding place
Elrejtlek én
I’ll hide you
(mondva) Sose felejtsd el mit tanítottam neked!
(spoken) Never forget what I taught you!
Az arcod csúf (Az arcom csúf)
Your face is ugly (My face is ugly)
És torzadt tested (És torzadt testem)
And your body is disfigured (And my body is disfigured)
The world thinks of it as a sin and won’t forgive it
Nincs bennük irgalom (Csak benned bízhatom meg)
They don’t have mercy in them (I can only trust you)
They don’t see in you anything besides a monster (only a monster)
Kigúnyol és megvet, aki lát (borzalmas szörnyet)
Those whom see you scorn and make fun of you (horrible monster)
Miért vonnád a fejedre a pórnép átkát?
Why would you make common people curse you?
Understand that and be loyal to me (to you)
Hallgass én rám (Ó, gazdám)
Listen to me (Oh, master)
Maradj hát itt
Stay here then
Mert kint
Because outside
Csak kín vár rád (Csak kín vár rám)
Only brings you pain (Only brings me pain)
(mondva) Olyan jó vagy hozzám!
(spoken) You are so good to me!
(mondva) Bocsáss meg!
(spoken) Forgive me!
(spoken) I’ll forgive you, but don’t forget Quasimodo: This is your only sanctuary
(mondva) Ez a menedékem
(spoken) This is my sanctuary
Kő falak közt, tornyok ormán, itt az én hazám
Between stone walls, on the brink of towers is where my homeland is
Álmaimról lemondtam már régen
I given up on my dreams a long time ago
Rejtekhelyem magányából nézhetem csupán
I could only see from inside my lonely hiding spot
Hogy zajlik az élet lent a téren
How life is happening on the square
Ismerem már minden ember arcát
I already know everyone’s faces
Életüket velük együtt élem
I live my life with them
Minden vágyam egyetlenegy boldog óra kint
All my wishes are made out of just one happy hour outside
Nem is kell más
Nothing else is wanted
Égi áldás
blessing from above
Ott járnék, kint a téren én
I would walk outside, on the square
Ahol nincsen árnyék
Where there are no shadows
És minden csupa fény
And everything is full of light
A két karomba zárnék
I would lock into my two arms
Gazdagot, szegényt
Rich and poor people
És bút, sorscsapást
And sad set-back
Nem bánnék
is what I wouldn’t mind
Soha mást nem kívánnék
I wouldn’t ask for anything else
Ó, vár reám a sok sok utca, út és tér
Oh the many streets, roads and squares are waiting for me
Ott kint végre emberek közt élni
Finally living outside surrended by people
Én tudom csak szabadságuk kincse mennyit ér
I’m the only one who knows how much their treasure of freedom means
Bármelyikkel boldogan cserélnék
I would gladly trade with any of them
Adj egyszer, istenem egy órát
Give me, my god, one hour
Többre nem is vágynék
I wouldn’t want anything else or more
Napsugár ha int
If sunshine beckons me
Szárnyak nélkül szállnék
I would fly withouth wings
S a boldogságra kint
and happiness
Ó végre rá találnék
oh, is what I would finally find outside
És feledném a kínt
And I would forget the pain
És mind a bús magányt
And all the sad loneliness
Vállalnám
is what I would accept
Égbe száll száz imám
hundreds of prayers of mine flies into the sky
Végre hát meglátnám
I would finally see
A csodát mely kint vár rám
The miracle that’s waiting for me outside

Dream Dives Around the World
An underwater agenda for scuba divers, whale watchers, and shark seekers.
Adventure Ocean World | POSTED ON: April 1, 2019
Divers in French Polynesia get to glide with triggerfish. Photo By: Global Pics/Getty Images
If writing the new National Geographic book 100 Dives of a Lifetime: The World’s Ultimate Underwater Destinations taught me anything, it’s that the diversity of environments in the water rivals that on land. Although ocean covers more than 70 per cent of the planet’s surface, we’ve explored a mere five per cent of it. So for those looking to channel their inner adventurer, our aquatic realms offer abundant opportunity. Yet only some three per cent of the ocean is protected, which is why National Geographic works with researchers such as Explorer-in-Residence Enric Sala, who launched the Pristine Seas initiative with the goal of saving the ocean’s last wild places. Here are 19 dive sites spanning the globe that provide insight into the undersea world we’re striving to protect.
—Carrie Miller
Indonesia
Reef Riches
With some 500 species of coral, including gorgonians and sea pens, Raja Ampat is diving fit for a king—or four kings (Raja Ampat translated). Pro Tip: For easy access to the reefs, stay on a liveaboard boat.
Cayman Islands
The Great Wall
Little Cayman Island’s Bloody Bay Wall feels like an undersea spacewalk, as the blue abyss plummets more than a thousand feet. Pro Tip: Tour the research facilities of the Central Caribbean Marine Institute.
South Africa
Adrenaline Rush
Aliwal Shoal hosts species from nudibranchs to humpback whales, but it may be most famous for the annual sardine run, when millions gather to spawn. Pro Tip: Ask local dive operators about the specific timing.
Antarctica
Ice Ice Baby
Penguins scoot just below the surface in Antarctica’s Ross Sea. Photo By: PAUL NICKLEN/National Geographic Image Collection
Dives below the frozen Antarctic surface reveal agile penguins and octopi with blood pigments to help them survive the numbing temps. Pro Tip: You’ll need special freeze-protected regulators.
Maldives
The Big Time
The underwater pinnacles surrounding oval-shaped Ari Atoll attract whale sharks and manta rays, which feed in the plankton-rich channels. Pro Tip: The best time to see these marvels is February to May.
Mexico
Caving In
Once revered by the Maya, cenotes in the Yucatán are now treasured by divers. Strange rock formations and potential archaeological finds lend an Indiana Jones vibe. Pro Tip: Vet the dive operators well.
Bahamas
Shark Peek
Share the warm, crystalline waters of Tiger Beach with beautifully patterned tiger sharks that swim around a shark feeder who’s clad in protective gear. Divers kneel in fixed positions on the white sand behind the feeder to watch the show. (If you’re an especially intrepid traveller, book a trip to Port Lincoln, Australia, the only place where you can dive in an ocean-floor cage with great whites.) Pro Tip: Don’t get complacent with these extraordinary—but wild—creatures.
Cuba
Liveaboard & Learn
In Los Jardines de la Reina marine reserve, accessible only by liveaboard, divers have the opportunity to see elkhorn coral, silky sharks, and saltwater crocodiles. Pro Tip: Obtaining a Cuban visa for an Indian traveller can be cumbersome; visitors are advised to go through an established travel agent.
Marshall Islands
What a Wreck
In the Marshall Islands, wrecks attract both divers and snorkellers. Photo By: Design Pics Inc/ALAMY
Within the lagoon of remote Bikini Atoll lies a graveyard of battleships and destroyers—the legacy of U.S. nuclear tests in the mid-20th century. Pro Tip: Hone wreck-diving skills at easier sites first.
U.S.A.
Citizen Science
With the Coral Restoration Foundation in Key Largo, Florida, divers help “plant” corals and monitor new growth on the reef. Pro Tip: Learn about upcoming volunteer dive programs at coralrestoration.org.
Canada
Cold Comfort
Known for wrecks, reefs, and rich marine life, British Columbia’s Barkley Sound has become a cold-water hot spot. Pro Tip: The sheltered location allows for year-round diving.
U.S.A.
Night Moves
Swooping through the inky black waters, manta rays with 20-foot wingspans feed on plankton while divers look on from the sea floor near Kona, Hawaii. Pro Tip: Let the mantas dictate the interaction.
Iceland
Freshwater Fissure
Dive in and touch both the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. The Silfra fissure in Thingvellir National Park is literally a place where worlds collide. Pro Tip: A dry suit is a must.
Wispy sea fans wave from a reef in Raja Ampat, Indonesia. Photo By: Alex Mustard/Minden Pictures
New Zealand
Stranger Things
In Fiordland, a layer of freshwater on top of saltwater chokes off light, causing creatures of the deep to rise to viewing level. Pro Tip: The road out is a mountain pass, so add extra time to decompress.
Australia
Crowd Pleaser
Julian Rocks Marine Reserve lies off Australia’s most easterly point, near Byron Bay, and smack in the middle of the East Australian Current. Sea creatures migrating along the coast—humpback whales, manta rays, sand tiger sharks—stop in for a visit, joining the resident population of cuttlefish, wobbegong sharks, and turtles. Byron Bay is a top destination for experienced divers as well as newbies learning the ropes. Pro Tip: Don’t miss a hike up to the Cape Byron Lighthouse, one of the world’s best places to spot migrating whales.
U.S.A.
Bouncing Back
Hurricane Maria pummelled Puerto Rico, but it also gave the sea a breather from tourist traffic, making this a good time to go. Pro Tip: The vast majority of island hotels and businesses have reopened.
Bonaire
Small Wonders
At the Bonaire National Marine Park, get up-close looks at frogfish, banded coral shrimp, and Seuss-like nudibranchs. Pro Tip: Divers pay a one-time entrance fee and attend an orientation dive.
Ecuador
Fantasy Islands
Where can you dive with marine iguanas, sea lions, whale sharks, and hammerheads in the same day? It’s got to be the Galápagos. Pro Tip: To protect the fragile environment, diving is restricted; plan ahead.
French Polynesia
Drifting Away
Channels act as underwater slides between the open ocean and the atolls of the Tuamotu Islands, allowing divers to glide along with triggerfish and wrasses. Pro Tip: Practice with currents beforehand.

She likes the junk-clearance in the city, or to go to the flea-market, she likes to renovate furniture, her favorite object is a one-espresso mini thermos with pink-gold-white stripes form the ’60s, every year for a month she doesn't talk about her work. And anyway layered potato, peanut butter, and Szentendre.
Apol asztala/Apol’s table.
Mi a legkedvesebb gyerekkori emléked?/What is your favorite childhood memory?
I grew up in a big family, I have four siblings, I am the youngest amongst the five. A few consecutive summers we organized a “Kid’s Ball” with my cousins and the neighbor kids. We invited everyone from around and we had a complete show for entertainment with mini theatre plays and funny scenes. We dressed up, handed out tickets, we had a registry. We were very prepared. One of these summers, I was around 4 years old at the time, my older brother and my cousin tried very hard to break a tree branch, of course without any luck. Every muscle in their bodies was involved in the procedure, but they couldn’t succeed. This was the moment when I stepped on the stage in my red-white striped, puffy-sleeved dress and I easily broke the branch into half. Huge ovation, the adults who were watching from the mound started clapping. I took a bow and ran off. A lot of laughter followed...
Mit érzel, amikor egy másik művész a tiédhez hasonló munkát készít?/What do you feel when another artist does something similar to your work?
If it’s about collegiality, I feel joy, and I start to think about how could we work together to create something exciting. Collaboration, creating community, exhibition. To buck each other up and to support each other intellectually to do something, we can only do. If it’s plagiarism, then I get angry pretty quickly, I cannot understand this kind of leeching. If you as a creating artist don’t have ideas on your own, then you are predestined to have a short run in your career anyways.
Mit szeretnél, hogy miről emlékezzenek majd rád?/What would you like to be remembered by? …hogy mennyire szerettem. A leendő férjemet, gyerekeimet, családomat, barátaimat, munkatársaimat és a munkámat.
...by how much I loved. My to be husband, my children, my family, my friends, my colleagues and my job...
Gyűjtesz valamit?/Are you collecting something? Furcsa kis tárgyakat, régi fémdobozokat, anyukám szerint kacatokat :D de ezek nyilvánvalóan kincsek ;) Nagyon szeretek lomtalanítani, bolhapiacozni, nagy bútorfelújító vagyok, a régi, szép, múlttal rendelkező tárgyakat szeretem.
Strange little objects, old metal boxes, according to my mother: junk :D, but these are not junk but rather treasure ;). I love the junk-clearance, to go to the flea-market, I love to renovate furniture, I like old, beautiful objects that have a past.
Van olyan gyerekes szokásod, amit akkor csinálsz, amikor senki nem figyel?/Do you have a childish habit that you do when nobody is watching? A nagymamám pudingjáról való álmodozás, vagy a képzelt barátnőmmel való ücsörgés ide tartozik? :D
Does daydreaming about my grandma’s pudding or to sit around with my imaginary girlfriend belong to this category? :D
Mi volt a legnagyobb őrültség, amit eddig csináltál?/What was the craziest thing you have ever done?
When I went to Turkey with the Erasmus program. I dealt with a lot of things to get ready for this, except for the accommodation part which I liked to ignore altogether. I was hoping it will get solved by itself, but like most of the time, this tactic did not bring the expected solution… The day of my travel was getting closer by the minute, so I decided I will solve the issue in an instant, so I googled: “Izmír flat”. I had a hit… and this is how I ended up being the flatmate of a Turkish, an Argentinian, and a Russian girl in the party district of Izmír.
Van-e napi rutinod?/Do you have a daily routine? Kéne?
Should I?
Kedvenc tárgyad?/Favorite object? Távol álljon a kivételezés, de a legaktuálisabb egy rózsaszín-arany-fehér csíkos 1 espresso-s mini termosz a 60-as évekből. Talált gyöngyszem! Pontosan annyit tud, amennyit ígér.
I don’t want to exclude anything, but right now my favorite is a pink-gold-white striped one-espresso mini thermos from the ‘60s. It’s a treasure found. It knows exactly what you would expect.
Hogyan fogsz neki egy új munkának?/How do you get started on a new project?
My current project, to make acoustic panels out of textile industry left-overs, which is material development combined with structure planning, took years of preparation. The exposition of the issue, the search for possible materials, to acquire the knowledge of materials, and to map out the possible solutions was a nice yet very complex task, which had to be merged with economical aspects as well. At every step of my work, I was looking out for foreign studies, exhibitions about the theme, this is how my conception was formed. Every single experiment took me closer to really knowing the material and outdrew the relevant areas of use. Content and formal representation form side by side. More than one thing is on my mind at the same time, I process them with eyes wide open, tiny detail solutions are being added form other fields. This is followed by a short experimenting phase, sketching and then, at last, a decision is made, I start and I don’t stop from that point on.
Van egy jól körülhatárolható hangulat, amikor könnyebb számodra az alkotás?/Is there a specific mood/atmosphere that makes creating easier for you? A pattanásig feszült helyzet.
A very tense situation. If the decision is made, I have a concrete idea, I want to get started. I am an abrupt person -like my mother- I have to start right away.
Kutya vagy macska?/Dog or cat? Ember!
Human!
Mi az, ami a leginkább feltölt?/What can recharge you the most? Sőt, ilyenkor kifejezetten olyan tevékenységekre helyezem a hangsúlyt, ami kikerget a komfortzónámból.
Every year there is a month when I simply don’t talk about my work. Moreover, I try to emphasize doing things that are getting me out of my comfort zone. I need this distance so that I can stay objective, and to rebalance myself.
I live in Budapest for many years now, but my deepest connection is to Szentendre. The stork delivered my there, that’s where I became a kindergarten student with pigtails, a pupil at the music school who never practiced enough, a young teenager who wandered around, and an adolescent with trapezoid pants. Those streets and scenes are the ones that are closest to my heart.
Kedvenc étel?/Favorite food? Az étel, ami örök kedvencem, a Rakott krumpli! Különösképpen születésnapi tortaként ;) Az étel viszont, ami szinte függőséget okoz, de néha barátságok detonátora, az a földimogyoró krém.
My all-time favorite is layered potatoes. Especially if it comes in the form of a birthday cake ;). But the food that causes addiction and can be a detonator of friendships is peanut butter.
What is that one artwork you have to do before you die? Amit a New York-i MoMA-ban kiállítok :D
The one I will exhibit at the MoMA in New York :D
------------------------------------- NÉVJEGY - Temesi Apol:
„2014-ben diplomáztam a Moholy-Nagy Művészeti Egyetemen textiltervezőként.
„I finished my diploma in 2014 at the Moholy-Nagy University of Arts and Design as a textile designer. My work is dominated by structure planning and material centric thinking. In my doctoral research at the University, I am examining the secondary life of textile industry leftovers, and I am mapping out the usage of these materials. We can consider the textile industry leftovers as waste, or as an opportunity to find raw material within. When reusing these materials we use their originally good characteristics and while working with it we complement it with others, we can find the new fields of using these materials. This way these materials that were considered as waste, can be considered as basic materials. By concentrating on textile industry waste and by using my technology it is possible to develop a new kind of base material, where the raw material can show off new characters and becomes suitable for interior design as well. The acoustic panels created in such a manner are both functional and artistic wall covers as well. This innovation won the Climate-innovation price in 2018 and 2019, and also won the Moholy Scholarship in 2019.”

Néhány fotó a hétvégi #Szekérfesztivál hennáiról. . Our annual rathayatra festival is expanding an ancient indian tradition from #Jagannatha Puri, in India. As people in this age are less keen on visiting temples the Lord of the Universe feels the need of going out to the sreets to bless them. Pulled by singing and dancing devotees, he travels in His fancy cart in cities like New York, London, Paris and now our treasured Budapest. Check out if there is a #Rathayatra festival in your city and have fun. . some of the photos by @kunja.photoclick . #mutiahennád #hennafestés #fesztivál #festival #festivalofchariots #budapesthenna #budapestiprogramok #hennatetovalas #hennafestés #buli #magyar #instahun #ighungary (helyszín: Városliget) https://www.instagram.com/p/BzfFp-uh3hA/?igshid=1vcviqxeteya2

Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia © John Shaw/Minden Pictures

Today on Bing August 7, 2021
Salt cones on the Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia What we’re looking at isn’t snow and ice – it’s a surreal landscape of salt in the Andes of south-west Bolivia. Located 3,656 meters above sea level, Salar de Uyuni is the world’s largest salt flat (or salt pan), spanning just over 10,000 square kilometres. It was formed when prehistoric lakes dried up over centuries, leaving behind a desert of bright white salt that can be seen from space. During the rainy season (December to April), a thin layer of water covering the salt transforms the area into a giant mirror that reflects the beautiful Bolivian skies.
There’s an estimated 10 billion tons of salt here, with about 25,000 tons extracted annually. Local salt gatherers, known as ’saleros’, scoop the raw mineral into piles to let it dry under the sun before it's taken to the nearby village of Colchani, where it's processed and turned into table salt, which is then sold in Bolivia and other countries. But the real treasure is buried beneath the salt crust: Just below the surface lies the world's largest untapped lithium reserve that could one day power the batteries in our smartphones, laptops and electric cars.
