And with that the 2024 year comes to an end.

I wish I could say it was a solid happy year but it honestly had a lot of ups and downs. Between sickness, surgeries, family drama and the overall chaos of the world, it was hard. I even lost a good friend of 15 yrs. (We decided to stop being friends.) which screwed me up for the first four months of the year.

But! There was an equal amount of great things that happened as well. My numbers grew, I finished another fic and I became even more confident in my writing. I made new friends and found new hobbies that I love. My immediate family grew stronger and we all grew wiser. I even got to do my dream trip and go to Disneyland! Something I honestly thought not possible. (Even though I live 6 hours away.)

I’m rambling here. Most importantly I just want to thank you all for being by my side through the last year. Your support has helped me so much and I always look forward to all of your reviews and comments.

So Happy New Year everyone! I hope you have an amazing year. (Despite all the chaos going on.)

I’ll continue to be here and give you all the best fics I can with hopefully the addition of art work to go with some things. (I’ll totally sell my kidney to afford as many commissions as possible.)

As someone with ADHD I also find that immersion based language is MUCH easier for me to stay consistent with and progress in my languages. When I first became obsessed with language learning I used duolingo quite a lot, but ofc it never took me that far. I find immersion, whether watching shows in my TLs or listening to podcasts on the way to work are very easy to maintain as someone with ADHD. Ofc each person with adhd will be different, but if this person has had little progress after spending so much time their time would definitely be better served trying out different methods that are also ADHD friendly.

So, I must admit - I finally and probably for good dropped duolingo, and here's why.

It is somewhat okay to get a grasp at a language. To make it less intimidating, even. But when it comes to actually learning the language, duolingo is not useless, is not harmful - it is... What it is. A waste of time.

Learning language via duolingo is like walking. It feels easy, it feels nice. And if your focus is on that - just to walk, have some fun, be my guests.

But leaning actual language on duolingo is like trying to walk on foot for a month, when a plane can take you there in a few hours. It is ineffective, it is not that optimized, and with each new update they give you less and ask to pay for more.

Hop onto some podcast. Watch a tv show with subs in your native language. Read a book with paralel translation, or even just use Clozemaster, that takes actual quotes in actual context.

The ppl who actually finished duolingo trees after years of studying said, that thats "not enough to read, like, a book in that language, or have a conversation". So the hell, man.

Don't waste your time walking, while you can fly.
