Mortal Kombat 1 & "Girl Power"

Content warnings: Unsurprisingly all the new Mortal Kombat trailers include high definition depictions of extremely gorey violence and death. Like, gives developers PTSD extreme. I will link to the trailers, but not include them inline. I did include a more cartoony Mortal Kombat 2 fatality.

Mortal Kombat (MK) has a long history, ever since Mortal Kombat 2, of not great female outfits.

Ed Boon has had a long history justifying this with "girl power" and that its a game where women get to be kickass, and now there's been an announcement that Mortal Kombat is setting up for... yet another reboot of the narrative.

So let's investigate Ed's claims of girl power, now they're giving the world a soft reboot and have used it to do redesigns and depict the characters in their ideal situations.

The new game Announcement Trailer that the characters now have a "choice" to live in quiet, serene lives they have - until we get a montage of Shang Stun just murdering them. Notably some of them get to make token effort to fight back, but it's not until the Gameplay Trailer we see them actually bust any worthwhile moves.

Kitana

In the initial trailer, Princess Kitana gets shown being carried in luxurious wagon before the crowds, accompanied by the oddly threatening Mileena. So... doesn't seem she's getting the same level of deep fulfilment the boys are.

The next time we see her - she's just like... kneeling in front of Shang Tsun and waiting to get her eyeballs gouged out with his thumbs.

In the second trailer, completely unconnected to the noble quest the boys are preparing for - she's having a battle with Mileena that seems fuelled by jealousy and paranoia.

We don't get to see any of her fatalities in the fatality montages - and while we see the boys testing one another, and building an alliance against their oppressor - we just see the girls squabbling.

Would this be an awkward time to bring up that Princess Kitana used to be 10,000 years old and expert at dealing with the machinations of the courts - unlike Fire God Liu Kang, she's been nerfed.

Mileena

Milenna gets shown riding with Kitana... and implied to be her rival, but is apparently now the actual Empress. then the next time we see her it's in a half-second clip of her getting her neck snapped effortlessly.

In the second trailer she trades blows with Kitana for a while, tagging in Goro to do some big hits and then later she's in a fight with one of the boys... the hits are done by another one of the boys she tags in.

We don't get to see any of her fatalities, which is pretty disappointing given that hers have often been particularly creative with the horror angle.

Sonya Blade

Sonya doesn't appear at all... and in the second trailer she rushes in during a fight to do like a weird, flip where she suplexes someone with her legs - then runs out again. Sort of a tag team feature that she seems to do just once.

She doesn't get a line, she doesn't get to show off a move set, she doesn't make a critical move and doesn't get a fatality. Sonya Blade, the original

Fuck you Ed, stop trying to justify your own jerk off material as "girl power" retroactively and pretending that you don't think women deserve to be badass. And give the people what they want to see:

That and like female characters who are as badass and badass looking as the boys - and shown to be as driven and interesting.

one thing i hate abt the new mk fans is that they find ANY reason to ship mlm. i have nothing wrong with ppl being gay and shit, but when you ship Raiden and Smoke because of ONE line.

Bi Han (Sub-Zero)'s new appearance after khaos?

Might he turn back from his Noob Saibot appearance to his human original form in the end of the Khaos reigns expansion story, could his looks be something like this? Those green hairs and orange color eyes look like remains of the experiments on him and making him look similar to Khaos realm natives!

You might know this skin as The Frozen Hunter and you get it in (Milenna's) season 4, The Hunter. So, all of those were given beforehand, but are really from this Khaos Realm!

Quando aquele cara de roupa social bateu na porta da sala, onde eu estava fazia meia hora tentando explicar porquê aquela empresa devia me contrata, e pediu licença pra entra, eu pensei:

-"Pode ser que eu não receba o esperado, mas se eu for contratada, pelo menos terei um colírio pros olhos todos os dias". Admirando aquele moreno bonito que se curvava na mesa pra entrega um documento pro cara que me entrevistava. -"Obrigado San. Eu já envio pro setor da produção".

-"Oi San, você vem sempre aqui?". Claro que isso foi a apenas a minha mente falando, quando ele se virou em direção a porta e passo do lado da minha cadeira me dando um sorriso leve dizendo "bom dia". Retornei o "bom dia" e o sorriso, e voltei pra minha tentativa de conseguir um novo emprego depois de quase 9 meses mofando em casa depois de ter pedido demissão do meu último emprego. Eu admito que preciso bastante desse emprego, pois no momento tudo que tenho é um apê que mal consigo paga, um pouco de dinheiro no banco e uma mãe que me liga todo santo dia perguntando se eu achei um novo emprego. Então usei todas as minhas habilidades de convencimento para ver se o diretor olha para o meu currículo, que não é tão ruim, já que eu sempre fui uma ótima e criativa designer de móveis.

-"Seu currículo é ótimo, na verdade eu conheci uns móveis que vocês elaboraram na última mostra de mobilidade futurista. Você era da LD Planejados?"

-"Sim, fizemos peças maravilhosas pra mostra, muitas foram até mesmo usadas num evento internacional depois."

"Incrível! Não quero ser indiscreto, mas porquê você saiu da LD?" - "O MEU CHEFE ERA UM CUZÃO!". Óbvio que não falei isso! Mas minha vontade era fala como eu me dediquei aquele empresa pra no final eles roubarem todas as minhas ideias e nunca me pagarem o que deviam.

"Eu senti que meu trabalho não era valorizado, então decidi busca outro lugar pra leva minhas ideias".

"Bom, então encontrou! Bem vinda a AX Mobiliários, Milenna!"

"OH GLÓRIA!" que na verdade saiu da minha boca como "Obrigado, que possamos fazer um ótimo trabalho juntos!". "E iremos. Vou te mostrar a empresa, e assim que você levar seus documentos no RH e eles liberarem, você já pode começa". Levantamos, apertamos as mãos, e saímos da sala pra conhece o lugar onde eu vou passar metade do meu dia sentada na frente de um computador e uma prancheta de desenho. Não precisei anda muito pra de longe reconhece Choi San do outro lado das mesas no setor de criação, concentrado no trabalho, com uma mecha do cabelo caindo sobre a testa e uma sobrancelha erguida. "Ótimo, seremos colegas!" pensei enquanto o diretor tagalerava sobre os espaços, setores, como a empresa priorizava pelo bem estar, etc… "Bom, temos este espaço livre, mas caso você preferir outra mesa podemos verificar a disponibilidade" "Acho que está ótimo! Obrigado". Claro que tava ótimo, pois eu acabei de descobrir que vou trabalha do lado de Choi San, vulgo colírio dos meus olhos.

"Hi San, do you always come here?" Of course that was just my mind talking as he turned towards the door and walked over to the side of my chair giving me a slight smile and saying "good morning". I returned the "good morning" and the smile, and went back to my attempt to get a new job after almost 9 months of moldering at home after quitting my last job.

I admit that I need this job a lot, because at the moment all I have is an apartment that I can barely afford, a little money in the bank and a mother who calls me every day asking if I found a new job. So I used all my convincing skills to see if the director looks at my resume, which isn't too bad since I've always been a great and creative furniture designer.

-"Your resume is great, in fact I met some furniture that you elaborated in the last show of futuristic mobility. Were you from LD Planned?"

"Yes, we made wonderful pieces for the show, many were even used at an international event afterwards."

"Awesome! I don't want to be indiscreet, but why did you leave LD?" "MY BOSS WAS AN ASSHOLE!" Obviously I didn't say that! But my desire was to talk about how I dedicated myself to that company so that in the end they stole all my ideas and never paid me what they owed.

"I felt that my work was not valued, so I decided to look for another place to take my ideas."

"Well, then you found it! Welcome to AX Furniture, Milenna!"

"OH GLORY!" which actually came out of my mouth as "Thank you, that we can do a great job together!" "And we will. We get up, shake hands, and leave the room to see where I'm going to spend half my day sitting in front of a computer and a drawing board.

I didn't have to walk far away Choi San recognizes on the other side of the tables in the creative sector, focused on work, with a lock of hair falling over his forehead and an eyebrow raised. "Great, we'll be colleagues!" I thought as the director talked about the spaces, sectors, how the company prioritized well-being, etc…

"Well, we have this free space, but if you prefer another table we can check availability" "I think it's great! Thank you." Of course it was great, because I just found out that I'm going to work on Choi San's side, aka eye candy.
