“Lakestreet Boys” Dive into Halloween with Backstreet Spoof
- You’re not tripping; you’re gagging on LSD
Funny Halloween is superior to scary Halloween.
And Lake Street Dive - dressed as and mocking the Backstreet Boys - have funny Halloween covered for 2024.
Seated and donning ridiculous wigs, faux facial hair and tats, the Lake Streeters - Bridget Kearney as Howie Dorough, Akie Bermiss (Nick Carter), Rachael Price (Brian Littrell), Mike Calabrese (AJ McLean) and James Cornelison (Kevin Richardson) - oversing “I Want it That Way” with hilarious results. The oh-so-dreamy batting of the eyes and the oh-so-street-tough hand gestures only add to the spooktacular stupidity of LSD’s annual Halloween tradition.
Yet the men and woman of Lake Street are so talented at the mic, they nail the choruses - live no less - in a way the boys of Back Street could never hope to, either in the studio or with the help of backing tracks.
It ain’t scary. But it’s wicked funny. And who doesn’t want Halloween that way?

The official video for Lake Street Dive's "Neighbor Song" featuring Madison Cunningham. ___________________ Neighbor Song Songwriters: Michael Calabrese, Bridget Kearney, Rachel Price and Mike Olson
I can hear my neighbors making love upstairs Their love is rattling my tables and my chairs Keeping me awake The love they make it's keeping me awake While I'm just trying to get some sleep on the ground floor I don't mind my neighbor making love upstairs Cause I was once the lover making all my neighbors scared You and me thundering the floorboards with our power and our force While they're just trying to get some sleep on the ground floor
I can hear my neighbors making love upstairs Their love is amplifying all of my despair Cause I was once a lover now I have to listen to my neighbors Making love upstairs from down on the ground floor From down on the ground floor From down on the ground floor
In this city all the humans live in layers I got people down the hall and down the stairs We all move in and out and live our lives in stacks and rows and pairs And try to find someone with whom we can share it
I can hear my neighbors making love upstairs Wish I didn't have to be so well informed of their affairs But if I have to hear them doing something, at least they're having fun Sometimes I forget that all of us are just human Cause we're all stacked in rows and columns And if one of them should fall on me My neighbors making love upstairs would crush me I'm down on the ground flpork

Lake Street Dive's Mike Calabrese and Akie Bermiss are on the podcast The Show on the Road to chat with host Z. Lupetin of Dustbowl Revival. "There are very few things in life that you can depend on," says Lupetin, "and yet since 2004, when they were founded ... the group has consistently put out virtuosic, heartfelt, harmony-laden, decadently delicious, nerdy dance music ..." You can hear their conversation here.

Song Review: Lake Street Dive feat. Madison Cunningham - “Neighbor Song”
Madison Cunningham brought more than her voice to Lake Street Dive’s re-recording of “Neighbor Song.”
“Madison is an extremely special musician and we feel so honored to have had her join us on one of our songs,” the band said in a statement.
Trading verses and singing in harmony with Rachael Price, Cunningham makes Lake Street Dive sound like the group that backed her on 2022’s Revealer, thus adding a world-music aesthetic to the 2010 LSD song about a randy couple living - and doing a lot of fucking - above the temporarily chaste narrator.
It’s a complete reimagining done in a single take that works completely.
Grade card: Lake Street Dive feat. Madison Cunningham - “Neighbor Song” - A

Lake Street Dive - “Musta Been Something”
Rachel Price/Lake Street Dive playlist ________________________
Musta Been Something Songwriters: Songwriters: Bridget Kearney, Michael Calabrese, Mike Olson and Rachel Price
You said I, I didn't do anythin' wrong But there must have been somethin' I could've done better Oh, oh you said I, I didn't do anythin' wrong But there must have been somethin' I could've done better
Did you want me at home more? Was I runnin' around more than you liked, me leavin' you? Did you want more alone time? Was I callin' you up every night when I needed you?
Times that I was tired and selfish I don't know why I did it, I couldn't help it But you know that I've tried Now I keep on askin', could I? Could I?
You said I, I didn't do anythin' wrong But there must have been somethin' I could've done better Oh-oh you said I, I didn't do anythin' wrong But there must have been somethin' I could've done better
Memories twist the light I know you're thinkin' tonight about the things I did right But seein' you so happy now Has got me thinkin' about all the things I did wrong
Times that I was quiet and distant I don't know why I didn't tell you what I meant But you know that I've tried Now I keep on askin', could I? Could I?
You said I, I didn't do anythin' wrong But there must have been somethin' I could've done better You said I, I didn't do anythin' wrong But there must have been somethin' I could've done better

Broncos Regular Season Week 12
Hawk Valley
During the week
I have moved this segment to the top of the page because some very important news dropped on Saturday the 28th. Driskel, a Denver Bronco quarterback tested positive for Covid on Thursday. Before Saturday's practice, the NFL notified the Broncos that due to contact tracing, Drew Lock, Brett Rypien and Blake Bortles are to be identified as high risk Covid contacts and that they are ineligible to participate in the game against the New Orleans Saints. The NFL requires that they enter a five day quarantine period. All three have tested negative for Covid, but Driskel could be a super spreader.
THE DENVER BRONCOS WILL PLAY THE GAME AGAINST THE SAINTS WITHOUT ANY OF THEIR QUARTERBACKS.
Running back Freeman is the emergency quarterback during normal times.
Desperate times
The Denver Broncos actually tried to convince the NFL to let one of their coaches play quarterback for this game. The Broncos offered up Rob Calabrese, who ran the offense during practice on Saturday. He played quarterback at Central Florida back in 2008-2010. He threw 12 touchdown passes and 7 picks. In 2012, he was the "wildcat" quarterback/wide receiver.
The second coach the Broncos offered up is Justin Rascati. He played quarterback for Louisville in 2003 and at James Madison from 2004-2006. He threw 51 touchdown passes with only 6 picks.
The NFL told the Broncos they could not activate any of their coaches for the game today.
The Broncos then promoted undrafted, rookie and practice squad wide receiver Kendall Hinton to the starting quarterback role. He played quarterback for Wake Forest. There are conflicting reports on this, but he hasn't played quarterback since 2015 or 2017. The Broncos waived him on September 5, but resigned him to the practice squad on November 4.
The Broncos also have a quarterback nobody is talking about, Riley Neal from Vanderbilt.
The quarterback coach for the Denver Broncos is Mike Shula. He has 29 years of experience.
The Broncos also announced they signed Garett Bolles to a four year, 69 million dollar contract.
Quick Review
Last week, the Broncos beat the Dolphins 20-13. I know, I'm as shocked as you are. The Broncos played OK on offense, defense and special teams.
A longer review
Miami took the opening kickoff, gained four yards and then punted. The Broncos opening play was a run by Lindsay for no gain. Lock threw an incomplete pass on second down. At the 13:03 mark in the first quarter, Lock threw an interception.
Miami had the ball at the 22 yard line. On first down, they ran for four yards. On second and six, Justin Simmons intercepted a pass from their quarterback, but Denver was called for holding. On fourth down and a yard short of the first down, Denver elected to punt.
The next Miami drive consisted of a 3 yard gain, followed by a 3 yard loss, followed by an incomplete pass. They punted with about 12 minutes left in the half.
Lock connected with Patrick for a 30 yard gain on first down. Then Lock found Fant for a 9 yard gain. Gordon came in and lost two yards. On third down, Lock threw an incomplete pass accurately enough to avoid an intentional grounding call. On forth down, the Broncos kicked a 29 yard field goal.
The Dolphins ran for 8 yards on first down. Then they ran up the middle for the first down. Four plays later, the Dolphins had crossed mid-field. The Dolphins picked up 5 yards on the next two plays. On third and nine, with 51 seconds left, Gordon ran for 7 yards. The Broncos then kicked a field goal as time expired in the first half.
Back on the field, Lindsay picked up five yards on the opening play of the second half. Lindsay ran to the right and picked up 18 yards on second down. Gordon came in and picked up three yards. Lock then connected with Fant for a 15 yard gain, but he might have fumbled. Denver quickly handed the ball off to Gordon for a two yard gain. Then Vannett caught a pass 9 yards. With 11 minutes left in the quarter, the Broncos had moved the ball down to the 20 yard line. On first down, Lindsay ran to the left for a 3 yard gain. Lock followed that up with an incomplete pass. On third and 7, Lock completed a pass to Jeudy for a 6 yard gain. With 9:30 left in the quarter, on fourth and 1, the Broncos decided to go for it. Gordon failed to pick up the yard.
The Denver defense stepped up on the next Dolphin drive. On first down, Miami failed to gain a yard. On second down, their quarterback was sacked for a 5 yard loss. On third down their quarterback completed a pass for a 7 yard gain. With 7:30 left, the Dolphins punted.
Lock completed a pass to Patrick for a gain of 9 yards on first down. On second down, Gordon lost a yard. Lock then connected with Hamler for a 16 yard gain. Gordon ran to the right for a 9 yard gain. On second down, Lindsay picked up the first down. On first down, Lock threw an incomplete pass into the end zone. Lindsay ran to the right and picked up 2 yards. On third down, the Miami defense was flagged for pass interference and roughing the passer. On first down, Lock completed a pass to Patrick for a 7 yard gain. At the 2:38 mark in the third quarter, Gordon ran for 20 yards and a Denver touchdown. Denver led at this point 20-10.
Miami ran down the clock for the next two and a half minutes to end the quarter, but they were flagged for holding right before the quarter ended. On the first play of the fourth quarter, Miami's quarterback rolled out, all the way, for a two yard loss. On second down, they picked up 6 yards. On third and 16, Miami was called for a false start. On third and 21, Chubb sacked their quarterback. The Dolphins punted on fourth down.
The Dolphins defense held the Broncos offense to three plays and a punt. At the 10:44 mark in the fourth quarter, Miami changed quarterbacks. Fitzpatrick came in and the Dolphins gained 7 yards. On second down, Miami gained nothing. On third down, Fitzpatrick completed a pass for a 26 yard gain. The Dolphins were now at mid-field. On first down, they moved the ball through the air for 11 yards. On first down, Fitz threw an incomplete pass. On second down, Fitz threw a pass that should have been intercepted. Fitz scrambled for a one yard gain on third down. At the 7:51 mark in the fourth quarter, Miami kicked a 53 yard field goal.
On the next drive, Lock connected with Fant for a 29 yard gain on first down. Then Lock scrambled for nine yards. Lindsay scampered for 15 yards on second down. Gordon lost 2 yards on first down. On second down, Miami was flagged for holding and unnecessary roughness. On first down, Gordon ran towards the end zone but fumbled on the one yard line and Miami recovered the fumble.
At this point, there were a little over 5 minutes left in the game. On first down, Fitzpatrick threw an incomplete pass. On second down, Miami picked up 15 yards. On first down, Chubb was flagged for unnecessary roughness. After the penalty, the Dolphins completed a pass for a one yard gain. On second down, with 4:15 left in the game, the Dolphins picked up 8 yards. The ball was now on the 45 yard line. The Dolphins picked up 6 yards through the air on third down. Then Fitzpatrick thew an incomplete pass with 3:31 left. On second down, Miami was called for holding. The Dolphins picked up 9 yards on second and 20. On third down, Fitzpatrick completed a pass for a first down. The ball was now on the 12 yard line. After the two minute warning, Fitzpatrick threw an incomplete pass that was almost intercepted. On second and 10, The Dolphins picked up two yards. On third and 8, with 1:09 left in the game, Fitzpatrick threw a pass into the end zone that was intercepted.
The Broncos then ran out the clock and the final play of the game was a completed pass from Lock to Patrick on fourth down. Denver beat the red hot Miami Dolphins 20-13.

Outlook
This will be an interesting game. I have no idea what to expect from Denver. 40 running attempts?
For the trends that follow, it should be noted that the starting quarterback for the Saints, Drew Brees, was injured in week 9 and although he was the starting quarterback for game 10, he did not finish the game. The Saints expect him to return in week 15.
