“Lakestreet Boys” Dive into Halloween with Backstreet Spoof
- You’re not tripping; you’re gagging on LSD
Funny Halloween is superior to scary Halloween.
And Lake Street Dive - dressed as and mocking the Backstreet Boys - have funny Halloween covered for 2024.
Seated and donning ridiculous wigs, faux facial hair and tats, the Lake Streeters - Bridget Kearney as Howie Dorough, Akie Bermiss (Nick Carter), Rachael Price (Brian Littrell), Mike Calabrese (AJ McLean) and James Cornelison (Kevin Richardson) - oversing “I Want it That Way” with hilarious results. The oh-so-dreamy batting of the eyes and the oh-so-street-tough hand gestures only add to the spooktacular stupidity of LSD’s annual Halloween tradition.
Yet the men and woman of Lake Street are so talented at the mic, they nail the choruses - live no less - in a way the boys of Back Street could never hope to, either in the studio or with the help of backing tracks.
It ain’t scary. But it’s wicked funny. And who doesn’t want Halloween that way?

The official video for Lake Street Dive's "Neighbor Song" featuring Madison Cunningham. ___________________ Neighbor Song Songwriters: Michael Calabrese, Bridget Kearney, Rachel Price and Mike Olson
I can hear my neighbors making love upstairs Their love is rattling my tables and my chairs Keeping me awake The love they make it's keeping me awake While I'm just trying to get some sleep on the ground floor I don't mind my neighbor making love upstairs Cause I was once the lover making all my neighbors scared You and me thundering the floorboards with our power and our force While they're just trying to get some sleep on the ground floor
I can hear my neighbors making love upstairs Their love is amplifying all of my despair Cause I was once a lover now I have to listen to my neighbors Making love upstairs from down on the ground floor From down on the ground floor From down on the ground floor
In this city all the humans live in layers I got people down the hall and down the stairs We all move in and out and live our lives in stacks and rows and pairs And try to find someone with whom we can share it
I can hear my neighbors making love upstairs Wish I didn't have to be so well informed of their affairs But if I have to hear them doing something, at least they're having fun Sometimes I forget that all of us are just human Cause we're all stacked in rows and columns And if one of them should fall on me My neighbors making love upstairs would crush me I'm down on the ground flpork

For his new album “Dusted Beauty,” Chicago-born singer/songwriter John Fatum invited his oldest musical friends and peer mentors to record with him in his new home of Los Angeles. Jeff Picker (bass), Julian Pollack (aka J3PO , keyboards), Ben Flocks (saxophones), Robin MacMillan (drums, percussion), Michael Fatum (trumpet), and Adrian Olsen (co-producer/engineer/mixer) arrived and an experiment began, exploring the positive role models that Fatum calls the Sequoia trees of his life's grove.
“Dusted Beauty” displays the intimacy and warmth of Fatum’s sound: kind and loving, but with road-worn grit. As a beloved drummer with acts such as Sarah Jarosz, Bella White, The Brother Brothers, Jack Symes, Bridget Kearney (Lake Street Dive), Watkins Family Hour, Jefferson Hamer, The RT's, Wilsen, Aoife O'Donovan, Olive Klug, Buck Meek (Big Thief), and Maya Hawke, we get a sense of the grounded integrity that allows for such a dynamic range of Fatum's musical expression.

LIVE from Green River Festival!
By Monte Belmonte, Kaliis Smith June 27, 2023
It's Green River Festival Weekend! And we're broadcasting live from the Back Porch Stage!
We chat with Jim Olsen, the man behind the whole thing as well as Signature Sounds in Northampton about the history of the festival and the acts that have gotten him excited over the course of his tenure.
We get Nan Perroti, artistic director of the festival, whose distinctive style is easily identified on signs at many events, to talk to us about how she came to work her magic in script and how she came to be in the 413 as well.
Kent Hunt of East Branch Studio joins us to talk about building the Green House stage: a tiny house that is used for the festival and then repurposed. Professor Rob Williams and several students from the 5 colleges involved with the project arrived with him to explore why a construction effort of this nature is important not just to the festival itself, but to our community building as well.
And it wouldn't be the Green River Festival without music. So Bridget Kearney makes her way to the stage just before her solo set, as does Suitcase Junket, fresh from his completion of his secret show for the campsite.

Asteroid Festival
Tumblr media
We see the new Wes Anderson Movie with Mr. Universe, and have pop up performances at the Green River Festival with The Wood Brothers and Viv & Riley
today's show is a bit of a recap.
First we head to Amherst to check out the new Wes Anderson movie, "Asteroid City". We get to speak with executive director of Amherst Cinema Yasmin Chin Eisenhauer about some of the events coming to their theater, and then delve into the science-y-ness of the film with Mr. Universe, Salman Hameed. We promise no spoilers for the film.
Next, a set of performances we held at the Green River Festival. Taking place in the Roundhouse in the middle of the Franklin County Fairgrounds, we cajoled a handful of the artists already performing at the festival to perform impromptu intimate performances and chat with us.
We sit with The Wood Brothers, who mostly are brothers and talk about the instrument the not-quite-brother of the band has created out of an old guitar and many other things as well as how their latest album "Heart Is the Hero" came to be recorded.
And we get to hang out with Vivian Leva and Riley Calcagno who make up the folk duo Viv & Riley, just before Riley sat in on Raichel Baiman's set at the Back Porch Stage. We got to explore the world of old-fashioned string band sound as they continue to update it for a new millenium.

Song Review: Lake Street Dive feat. Madison Cunningham - “Neighbor Song”
Madison Cunningham brought more than her voice to Lake Street Dive’s re-recording of “Neighbor Song.”
“Madison is an extremely special musician and we feel so honored to have had her join us on one of our songs,” the band said in a statement.
Trading verses and singing in harmony with Rachael Price, Cunningham makes Lake Street Dive sound like the group that backed her on 2022’s Revealer, thus adding a world-music aesthetic to the 2010 LSD song about a randy couple living - and doing a lot of fucking - above the temporarily chaste narrator.
It’s a complete reimagining done in a single take that works completely.
Grade card: Lake Street Dive feat. Madison Cunningham - “Neighbor Song” - A

Lake Street Dive's Bridget Kearney spoke with NPR's Weekend Edition about "Being a Woman," a song she wrote for the band's new album, Obviously, adding her "voice to that chorus of the women that came before me who were shouting, 'Things need to change.'" You can hear what else she had to say here.

Songs for Hurricane Helene Relief Monday October 28th Doors 7pm, music 7:30pm
Tumblr media
As many of you know, The House of Love is intimately acquainted with hurricane damage and recovery, having been (literally) underwater in 2012 with Hurricane Sandy. We experienced firsthand how long it takes to get back to a new "normal", how expensive it is, and how the initial fervor wears off but the work is far from done. We were lucky to have so much amazing help and community, but it was still a slog. And the situation is much worse in Western North Carolina, where we have many friends who are struggling in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene and likely will be for awhile.
SO...we are putting together a benefit concert and raffle to raise some funds for hurricane recovery and relief in NC. Our friend Lyle de Vitry is up from Asheville and will be joined by an amazing group of generous hometown musician friends (see above!) and maybe a couple more, too. Stay tuned!
We'll also have a raffle, including a private lesson and vinyl from Bridget Kearney, a vocal lesson from Joy Askew, vinyl from Taylor Ashton, vinyl and a custom song from Lyle de Vitry, a clay lesson and some ceramics by me and hopefully other cool things.
Please join us for a night of community and support....and of course, really good music. Since this is a fundraiser, if you can afford to donate at the higher end of the scale, fabulous, and if not, that's ok too. If you can't make the show, you can donate to the effort via @amyhelfand on Venmo, either to buy raffle tickets ($25 each or 5 for $100) or to make a cash donation. Email with any questions about that.
Songs for Hurricane Helene Relief Monday, October 28th. Doors 7:00 pm, music 7:30 pm $50-$25/person sliding scale donation for hurricane relief efforts Limited seating. Email rsvp to [email protected] and Venmo @amyhelfand to hold your spot. Bring your favorite libations, etc. See you soon!
