My Grams & Mom introduced me to John Denver's music. I fell in love with his sweet voice, the simplicity of lyrics, yet so full of love. I cherish the albums they handed down to me. This a beautiful cover of "Leaving on a Jet Plane." The harmonies & Hofner bass are perfect. I'm sure John Denver, Grams & my mom are smiling down from Heaven.

“Lakestreet Boys” Dive into Halloween with Backstreet Spoof

- You’re not tripping; you’re gagging on LSD

Funny Halloween is superior to scary Halloween.

And Lake Street Dive - dressed as and mocking the Backstreet Boys - have funny Halloween covered for 2024.

Seated and donning ridiculous wigs, faux facial hair and tats, the Lake Streeters - Bridget Kearney as Howie Dorough, Akie Bermiss (Nick Carter), Rachael Price (Brian Littrell), Mike Calabrese (AJ McLean) and James Cornelison (Kevin Richardson) - oversing “I Want it That Way” with hilarious results. The oh-so-dreamy batting of the eyes and the oh-so-street-tough hand gestures only add to the spooktacular stupidity of LSD’s annual Halloween tradition.

Yet the men and woman of Lake Street are so talented at the mic, they nail the choruses - live no less - in a way the boys of Back Street could never hope to, either in the studio or with the help of backing tracks.

It ain’t scary. But it’s wicked funny. And who doesn’t want Halloween that way?

Southern Living

This is probably the only magazine subscription that I have. I always look forward to the Thanksgiving edition. This year it seems a little light on the recipes. However, I did see a couple of pies that looked delicious.

I hope your Saturday is good! I’m in my usual spot holding the couch down and drinking coffee. I have Lake Street Dive on the speaker box. They play excellent Saturday morning music!

She just fixed me an good bowl of oatmeal and reminded me that I said I was hitting the gym this morning! I need to learn to keep my mouth shut!

i still listen to muse because dan and phil introduced me to them when i was 13. hippo campus because of a friend from my swim team. still woozy from a guy on tinder. arctic monkeys from someone on omegle. i have mumford and sons lyrics tattooed on my body because of my older sister. i got into lana del rey because of my cousin. mitski from a friend back in 2014. matt maltese from youtubers i used to watch. lake street dive from a show my high school put on. the black keys from my dad. certain adele songs from my ex girlfriend. vampire weekend from a middle school friend. fall out boy and panic! at the disco and my chemical romance all from tumblr like 10 years ago. idk something about music and community and connections persevering even when the personal relationship isn’t directly maintained.

new tradition: turn all my shows from the previous year into a tour poster 🫶🏻 whenever i move into a new place i’ll get these printed and framed but for now they live digital lives.

Will never be over Lake Street Dive and their impeccable live shows. I’ve seen them with my wife—starting waaay back when we’d barely started dating—just about every time they’ve come to town (which has meant everything from “actually to town” to “a three hour drive is FINE, actually”), and sweet Jesus. They’re my all-time.

Song Review: Lake Street Dive feat. Tiny Habits - “Leaving on a Jet Plane” (Live From the Road)

Lake Street Dive and Tiny Habits did the nearly impossible in making the insufferable asshole who narrates John Denver’s “Leaving on a Jet Plane” seem almost sympathetic.

But not quite.

The dude who’s leaving on said jet plane is a liar and a cheater. And a narcissist who expects the woman he’s leaving not only to smile for him, but to be happy he’ll marry her upon his return. Oh, and those other women don’t mean a thing.

So this guy is a top-shelf jerk. But in this new “Live from the Road” video, in which four singers voice the philanderer sweetly over a sparse weave of electric bass, acoustic guitar and a touch of keyboard, the listener almost hopes things work out.

But then, the listener wouldn’t be too upset if the other person in the story just told him to fuck the fuck off.

Whatever. Lake Street Dive and Tiny Habits made beautiful music out of an ugly storyline.
