"Another challenger⊠it has been ages. Perhaps you have forgotten how this game is played. Allow me to remind you."
Happy halloween fellas!!! Hermitcraft/Life SMP inscryption AU ft. Boatem gang I cooked up awhile ago but never got around to posting B-) Wild life smp has reminded me how mentally ill I am about putting these Guys in Situations so here I am
Mild to major inscryption spoilers under the cut!
For those familiar with the game, the general roles are:
Luke Carter - "Challenger"/Grian
In this AU Grian is still a trading card-based youtuber who's recording all this nonsense going down real time as in canon, but has closer ties to the GameFuna company equivalent, named "WatcherCorp". His old college roommate/best mate Jimmy went to work for them, but mysteriously passed away in a fire at their headquarters. He found the Inscryption cards in Jimmy's leftover personal belongings a few years after his death, and decided that the best way to honor him would be to make a video featuring the project he put his heart and soul into... in more ways than one.
Key difference from canon Inscryption: Grian's mind is sucked into the game of Inscryption whenever he is playing. He is able to enter and leave the game at will, but he doesn't realize this until he first dies to Leshy/Pearl and ejects himself unconsciously out of fear of dying. The only reason he realizes he isn't hallucinating is because his camcorder footage proves he actually enters the game. He obtains the "Watcher's Eye" during Act 1, which he keeps for all future acts and allows him to see things he shouldn't see as a Challenger.
P03 - "Scarred Stoat"/Scar
Despite being the one who convinces Grian and the other Scrybes to stand up against Pearl, no one seems eager to spend any more time with the conniving conman than absolutely necessary. This may have something to do with Scar's history of backstabbing and cheating both Scybes and Challengers whenever it benefits him most. Which makes it rather unfortunate that Grian is must spend time with Scar in order to gather as much information as possible.
In the beginning, Scar and Grian do not get along in the slightest. Grian finds Scar's attitude too "fake", while Scar finds Grian's "cowardice" to be irritating. At some point, the two go from passive-aggressive fighting, to a grudging truce, to more friendly, lighthearted banter. Neither person seems to trust the other, but it doesn't seem to stop the two from being âšsaddled with unnecessary feelingsâš. Scar's Act 3 world is much like Leshy's Act 1 world, with much more emphasis put on environmental storytelling and general Vibes than actual gameplay. Even if his game is a smokescreen for his true goal of Ascension, he feels strangely obligated to give Grian his best shot.
Scar in his proper Scrybe form appears more steampunk than canon P03. Think of a Grumbot with Scar's boatem base aesthetic and tons of missing nuts and bolts. P03's bastardous tendencies+ Scar's steampunk base made this role perfect for him.
Magnificus - "Horned Wolf"/Impulse
Impulse is a talented artist and an even more talented programmer. His future sight stems from his literal sight: His eyes are able to see read the code veil behind Inscryption, allowing him to predict likely futures based on what code is running. He often laments his status as an NPC, claiming that if he were given administrative privileges and the actual ability to modify source code he would have been able to escape Inscryption long ago.
He is rather absent in Act 2, focusing on finishing his "artwork" as soon as possible. He uses his brush to create a menagerie magical creatures with strange abilities in hopes that using one in battle might trigger a unfixable bug, allowing him to rip a hole through the source code. It is unclear whether he was able to accomplish his goal before Act 3 roles around, but it seems like Scar's method of Ascension seems awfully similar to Impulse's... perhaps a sneaky spy was able to steal Impulse's information?
As a proper Scrybe, he resembles a walking mop or a yak with overgrown fur. Most of his features are indistinguishable, save for his small horns and his glowing goat eyes.
Lemora - "Distinguished Stinkbug"/Mumbo
Mumbo is by far the most easygoing Scrybe in the cast. While he would greatly prefer an eternal slumber over yet another temporary ceasefire amongst the Scrybes, he is willing to work with the others in Act 1 simply because he finds his stinkbug form too uncomfortable to sleep in. Mumbo's goal is simple: to delete the game of Inscryption, and therefore himself, and finally rest. However, finds the constant power struggles in the world of Inscryption rather tiring and simply can't be bothered to make a grab for power himself to achieve this goal. This hasn't stopped him from asking Grian to destroy floppy disk of Inscryption. Unfortunately for him, the temptation of the o̷l̔d̷ ̶d̞a̶t̷ [REDACTED] mysteries within Inscryption are simply too powerful for Grian to resist.
As a proper Scrybe, he looks almost exactly like Mumbo's minecraft skin: A pale, mustached man with blood red eyes who resembles a vampire. Mumbo denies all vampire allegations. While he is the most "normal" looking Scrybe, Grian would still hesitate to call him "human" ...there's just something slightly off about his appearance that sets him on edge.
Leshy - "Game Master"/Pearl
Pearl is an unforgiving gamemaster that puts more emphasis on providing the player a challenge than her canon counterpart. After her self-proclaimed "tutorial", there is no more handholding and she gives Grian an absolute hellish time. Grian is only able to get a slight edge when he discovers all of the Scrybes, who provide him with stategy help to even the playing field. It is unclear whether Pearl actually enjoys running her Act 1 game or not: she seems to derive an animalistic pleasure from defeating Grian, but there are times where she seems tired and fed up with the endless gameplay loop and intentionally throws during key fights. She switches between manic and depressed at the drop of a hat.
During Act 2, she barely even tries to give Grian a challenge, allowing him to progress straight to her boss fight without any side quests to "get it over with quicker". She seems to hold a deep grudge against Scar for some reason, which is the only thing that motivates her to take action to stop him during Act 3.
Mysteriously, Grian finds a burned and unusable Unicorn card within her Act 1 cabin. Upon discovery, Scar immediately suggests that Grian leave it where he found it. Some things are best left forgotten, after all...

Episodes and story predictions (spoilers!)
My restless brain has been on another quest.
Full theory explanation and lots of plot side-notes included below, but the short of it - I think the episodes order is going to be something like this (including previous ones for completion):
Ep. 1 - Westview: Agnes of Westview Ep. 2 - Westview: Setting up the journey Ep. 3 - The Road: Water trial - Jen (blue road) Ep. 4 - The Road: Fire trial - Alice (orange road) Ep. 5 - The Road: Spirit trial - Agatha (purple road) Ep. 6 - Westview: Teen backstory Ep. 7 - The Road: Air trial - Lilia (yellow road) Ep. 8 - The Road: Earth trial - Rio (green road) Ep. 9 - The Grand Finale (Agatha all Alone?)
BACKGROUND ON THE SYMBOLISM First of all, thank you to the production team for their incredible attention to detail. It is clear they have done a lot of research and put a lot of thought into symbolism and telling the story from the visual point of view. This is what makes theorising so much fun!
The whole show seems to revolve around the Wicca religion (also known as "The Craft" - I see you Teen!) that uses the pentacle (5-pointed star inside a circle) and typically worships Triple Moon aka Triple Goddess aka Hekate (Maiden, Mother, Crone) and Horned God (could be Marvel Mephisto). The magic circle uses 5 elements - Fire, Water, Earth, Air and Spirit. Together they are believed to be the root of all matter. Each element has a set of values associated with them, often also colours. While the colours are not always coded in the same way, I found that this (totally Agatha-unrelated) graphic below fits so well with the show's imagery.
The moon phases also play a big role in here. There are 8 lunar stages, but only 5 elements, so it will be interesting to see how the show continues to link these two strands (so far we've had Full moon for Water trial and Waxing for Fire). Moon phases are also linked with the stages of life - I won't go into full analysis but check out @shutupineedtothink post who beautifully explained possible connections with our witches.
I only wonder whether the full moon in the first trial was maybe mistaken and it was New moon instead? So that we are just moving through the first 5 phases of the moon? After all, it was Teen who identified it - although he was correct about it being the Water phase.
Episode 3: Water Trial - Jen - Blue - Full Moon Colour: we already saw that as the events unfolded, the light took on the blue tint, because of the water outside. Jen's own nightmare was all in blue. And the road (leaves, roots, mushrooms) leading to the trial was all blue. Story: Jen being associated with Water elements makes sense. Healing, Expression, Peace and Compassion fit really well with her role as a midwife and influencer (did you all realise that it was the midwife work that Agatha referred to when she explained why she spared Jen and her powers because it was "good work that matters" - a nod to Agatha appreciating maternal values). I don't think we will see much more of Jen's backstory - at least not as a dedicated episode, but only through bits of conversations like by the campfire. It feels like Jen's struggles were to do with a mental block and I think Agatha's pep talk was the one that made Jen realise her real power and, though she might not realise it yet, she might be regaining her magic as she starts believing in herself again. Plus I like the idea of not giving an evil man too much of a screen time because it's not his story. Trial exit: oven... so into the fire (as next trial)
Episode 4: Fire Trial - Alice - Orange- Waxing Moon Colour: red/orange tints were so much more obvious in this trial and the road to trial was orange. Even Alice's hair have some red/orange streaks. And her nightmare in ep.3 had some orange tint to it. Story: Alice also fits so well with the fire element values. Passion, Inspiration, Intuition, Creation, Protection - all of these align with her role as an ex-cop, but also her emotional journey as she thinks herself responsible for everything. Then there is the nod to creation when she overcomes the curse with the aid of a song. She is also (except for Teen) the youngest of them all (Maiden). When she was playing, there were flickers of orange magic between her fingers. So I think she's had magical powers all along but just didn't know about it, because she didn't believe in it. Her Road wish was to break the curse, not to get powers. Trial exit: piano... so into the soul (as next trial)?
Episode 5: Spirit Trial - Agatha - Purple - Half Moon? Colour: post-fire trial the road is purple - the leaves as well as fluorescent mushrooms etc. The scenes look dark and it's hard to see if they have purple tint. Agatha's nightmare in ep.3 was very dark too though. Story: This is the 80s sleep over episode (judging from the episode 5 font). Spirit values are the Soul, the Devine, the Mystery. While it's true these kind of also remind me of Rio, I think it's fair to say that Agatha is a total mystery, with all those many layers and masks that she wears. She is also the soul of the coven and the guide of the trials so far. She might have lied and not have walked the Road before (although I begin to change my mind on that), but she definitely leads the coven. It was her pep talk who guided Jen to the solution. And it was her who figured out Lorna's protection spell and guided Alice to play the song. As the ballad says "(...) we carry on, Spirit as our guide" (for a long time I thought it would be the spirit of the dead guiding them). So in this episode we see Agatha's spirit becoming possessed. So the Road is not just testing Agatha, but the whole coven - see how they manage when their Spirit is not available to guide them - and I don't think it ends well. I believe this is the episode where Alice realises she has magical powers. But because she doesn't know how to use them yet, we might lose her. Peppered across the promos, we see images of Alice wielding her orange power - once inside the sleepover room and once when she's on a broomstick. We also get to see Agatha absorbing someone's power while wearing her 80s jersey. We also see at some point Agatha has a whisper of red/orange magic in her palm. My theory is that although the trial is Agatha's, Rio will play a significant role. After all, they are going to have ouija board that will spell "Death" was in the room with them. And one of the posters for the episode was Rio. Agatha will become possessed and everyone acts scared, and it will be Rio who talks Agatha down. I hope we will get some soft moments between them and that we see some flashbacks of their story to give it more meaning. But then maybe Agatha needs magic to return her soul. Rio can't give it to her (I wonder if they explain to the witches why), so Alice blasts possessed Agatha instead. She absorbs the magic and returns to normal. They exit the trial on broomsticks. However, I think as they are flying away, they get attacked by Salem Seven. This is where Alice tries to use her magic again, but she might be exhausted or just inexperienced and she falls off the broomstick and we don't get to see what happens with her? This is why I think Lilia from the future tries to send her the message "Alice, don't try to save Agatha!" (but it gets split in two visions). I also think we finally get to see Teen using his blue power - maybe to help defend from the Salem Seven? Then leave us all on a cliff-hanger when the other witches realise this. (This would explain why he's poster is for that episode as well - and he's dressed as Billy Maximoff Halloween costume - the Wiccan). The red moon silhouette shows only 4 witches in clear view - I think they are, from right to left: Agatha, Rio, Jen and Alice. In the far left, in the dark, it looks like Lilia is there as well. So maybe Salem Seven kidnapped Teen because he protected Agatha with his magic, and now the witches are chasing them? I think Lilia somehow ends up left behind (I'll explain in later episode).
Exit: On broomsticks - into the Air (next trial)?
Episode 6: Westview - Teen story The episode list has this one circled in red, so I wonder if it's the "odd one out". Maybe we don't get to follow the Witches on the Road, but see flashback to Teen's backstory, following his blue magic cliff-hanger from the last episode? Maybe we see his family car crash mentioned in episode 1. We see that his parents (the two "perps") maybe don't die, thanks to the air bags, but are in a coma? That's why Teen says he's 100% certain his parents are asleep (or he talks about Wanda and Vision who tucked the boys in their beds right before the end of the Hex). I wonder if the body that Agnes investigates in the woods isn't Wanda or Darkhold, as everyone thinks, but Rebecca Kaplan - Billy's mom. Anyway, Billy Kaplan is at the back of the car and dies. But then two things happen - Death appears (Rio) to collect him, but Billy Maximoff reincarnates into the body and he lives. Hence the "Near death in Westview" hint for Joe Locke's end episode credits. Rio is intrigued and sticks around, maybe finally finds Agatha who is no longer able to hide from her because she has no Darkhold. I think Billy will try to summon the Witches Road by himself - maybe he wants to find his brother Tommy, maybe he wants to bring back Wanda and Vision, or maybe he wants to get back his Kaplan parents? I hope we get introduced to the final character that's missing from the end credits!
Episode 7 - Air trial - Lilia - Yellow - Waning Moon? Colour: Lilia's nightmare in ep.3 had distinct yellow tint. We also see lots of promo material of scenes with very heavy yellow filters. Even the road is yellow-ish at some point. Story: Air values are Intuition, Knowledge, Renewal, Change - this fits well with Lilia's divination abilities, as well with her age. We know she is the oldest witch in the coven and has lived for some 450 years, through many tragedies and the many ways the women were persecuted. Lilia is also always so vocal about the negative stereotypes that surround witches - she mentions green skin, broomsticks, talking to goats. Episode 5 might already give us the broomsticks and in this trial we will actually see Agatha as the green-skinned Wicked Witch of the West, so maybe we will also have a nod to the goat talking bit? That would be funny! Anyway, in this episode we see that Lilia will be Glinda (the Good witch), Agatha will be Elphaba (the Wicked witch) and Jen looks like the Evil Queen from the Snow White, but in her old hag form. And even the "yellow" road would be a callback to the Wizard of Oz. So I think the trial will be about those negative stereotypes and how witches have been perceived. We know Lilia doesn't like having to predict all those tragedies and feels deeply for all the victims. So what if her tarot trial will be about her trying to predict something good because it's something she was never able to do? Or maybe about her trying to use her powers to manipulate the cards to change the prediction into a good outcome? Or - trying to reverse a tragedy that happened in the past. It's interesting that the card she holds in the promo poster is The Tower. The card stands for "sudden, disruptive revelation" - kind of like Lilia's 'blips', and the trial seems in a tower-like room. There will be swords sticking out of the ceiling, threatening to fall down. We also know Salem Seven make their appearance again. So I think Lilia tarot reading will be about sending all those messages to the coven in the past (check my other post to explain the detail) and to send herself the list of the witches name so she writes them down for Agatha. When she succeeds, the timer (sand glass) gets turn upside down, and everyone in the room gets inverted as well - so they are flying in the air? That could mean that the Salem Seven gets impaled on the swords... but eek, I hope Lilia doesn't share the same fate... I didn't see any other characters in the air though. There is also a rumour that we will get another version of the Witches Road ballad - this time focusing on Lilia, so we will hopefully see them using Patti's full potential.
Back to the rest of the coven... I think after the broomstick flight they get separated. Lilia gets to the tower/castle first as she was left behind. That's why we see scenes with only Agatha, Teen and Jen on the Road (yellow filter) and they somehow circle back to the start, where Agatha falls over a pair of shoes they left at the beginning. Alice and Rio are not there - maybe because Alice died and Rio is taking her to the underworld. Or maybe they just separated, fingers crossed. We also see Agatha and Teen looking at a castle in the distance - that could be the castle that Lilia is in, so that's how they rejoin her.
Trial exit: the ground - so that next trial is earth?
Episode 8: Earth trial - Rio - Green - New Moon? Colour: green? There are a few scenes with dark green filter but not much else has been revealed Story: Earth values are Fertility, Wealth, Abundance, Strength and Wisdom. I hope we get to see how Rio is connected to that. The trial itself is the one where we see Agatha and Teen inside a morgue. This ties in well with both Earth and Death - lots of buried bodies! So sometimes I think maybe Rio isn't Lady Death after all, but her powers make her connected to the dead bodies, maybe to bring life? Agatha has her hands on Teen's head, so I wonder if she's trying to finally get rid of his sigil. They somehow pass the trial - which they believe to be the last one. Maybe the trial room gets flooded with soil at the end, and they climb their way through it - back up to the surface in Westview - maybe we will find out that everyone else who "died" on the Road has actually just climbed back to Westview. But maybe Agatha doesn't get out that way and still has to find the exit. At some point she gets angry because she still doesn't have her powers back even though she passed her Spirit trial (she screams "I want my prize!"). Maybe she realises it's the hair locket (or the symbol behind it) that stops her from regaining her powers and she needs to sacrifice it? Can't really deduce huge amount about this episode yet, other than we see Rio in her full chaotic self. She blows a kiss to someone as well (Agatha?). I think this is going to be a big episode, where Rio's true intentions are finally shown.
Episode 9 - The Grand Finale I draw blank on that one. I don't want to guess how they tie it all those strands together and how they show the impact of the Road on the witches lives. But there is that thought that keeps eating at me - in ep.1 Agnes says "If there is one thing we can agree on is that these cases are always about the place. The specific small town, the history of it, the secrets buried beneath it. That's where the answers lie." I think this is important and there is some big foreshadowing going on in there. Because yes exactly - why did Vision choose Westview of all places for their forever home? (Was it even Vision who chose it or was Wanda just made to believe that? The reason she knew about the plot was that someone dropped a file in her car) And after the events, the traumatised people still choose to live there. And Mrs Hart mentioned she would've expected to see "remnants of a failed public transit system" under Westview. I mean, would such a small town need it? I think there is something going on with Westview itself, maybe there will be a big reveal about this Mephisto at the end?
But that essay will be for another time. For now, I think I need to give my brain some rest. What does everyone think? Have I missed anything or are the elements that don't quite line up with the above theories? I would love to know! Thanks to getting this far!

The way it works is it's a surgery to make you immune to a bullet.
Note, that's not the same as being immune to bullets. You're only immune to a single shot: if someone shoots you twice, you're dead.
You can take the surgery again, though. The only real limitation is that you gotta wait 2-3 weeks between each time. But if you've got the money and the time, you can be as bulletproof as you want.
It doesn't "refill", by the way. Often when the surgery is explained people think it's like "a bullet a day" or "you can get shot once a year" or whatever. Nope! Once you've been shot it's just like you never had that surgery to begin with. If you want to "refill" that immunity? You have the surgery again.
No, there's no upper limit to how many times you can go, that we know of at least. There's one guy in Florida who has made it "his thing" to get the surgery as often as he can. He's currently up to about 50. Obviously there's some people online who've said they're gonna shoot this guy and lower his "record", just to be countrary.
Anyway I'm sure there'd be people who have even higher numbers (anyone who has "getting shot" as a major occupational risk, ie, politicians, soldiers, cops, and anyone doing any kind of residental survey in rural areas), but they only invented the surgery like three years ago, it's just simple math: you can't do much better than that guy.
The invention of the surgery hasn't done much to decrease gun sales, though. I mean, there's been a slight increase in people buying guns with larger capacity, for what I'd consider obvious reasons.
I did see an article suggesting that in the long run it might end up increasing the sale of guns. See their analysis is that two factors are going to drive up gun ownership:
1. People will be more willing to shoot at trespassers and thieves and such, because it'll be more like a warning shot: if they have some immunity, it won't be murder. So far that hasn't really happened as not that many people have the surgery yet. Although it's spreading fast, only major cities have surgeons trained in it, and often waits for surgery can be months long.
2. Conversely, people are going to be more likely to break in and rob and trespass if they know they can't be shot dead for it, because they got the surgery. There'll be a minor uptick in home invasions and such and this'll cause a big predictable panic among middle class homeowners who are now terrified some hooligan is gonna break into their house to steal their iPads. Thus they go throw money at security systems and cameras and guns.
So who knows at this point. If the cost (in both time and money) comes down, maybe it becomes super common for people to be so effectively invulnerable to guns that there's really no point in owning one?
I do agree with the common consensus that this is going to drive a big increase in crimes committed with knives and such. Why take a risk that your target might be immune?
Which reminds me of another thing to clarify because sometimes people online get this very wrong: it's only for bullets! You are not immune to getting hit by a car or poisoned or set on fire. Don't walk into traffic or anything, jesus.
Oh one last thing: there is a blood test that can tell if you have immunity, but it can't tell how many times you've had the surgery. You gotta figure that out yourself: so ask your doctor, search your emails, something. Every day I'm hearing from healthcare workers saying someone came in to get the blood test and it had to be explained to them that we can't tell how much protection you have: only if it's there or not. And I feel like a fool for having to say this, but REMEMBER to subtract any times you've got shot! (if you have been) Obviously!
EDIT: In light of recent events, people are sharing this post and arguing about it a lot, but let me be clear: grazes and small cuts do not count! The exact dividing line is too complicated to explain here (look up "circulatory shock" on Wikipedia), but basically if you don't end up with a big hole in you, the shot doesn't trigger the immunity.
That's how it works: you could have an ear blown clean off, and you'd still not trigger an immunity. So please stop spreading that idiotic conspiracy theory that a former president didn't have any immunity. You can barely run a high-school without being required to have immunity to hold the position, because what if someone shoots you? Come on! Of course he has immunity.
For all we know he's got some prototype experimental shit they use on president's that got him up to 200 in a couple days. There's endless rumors of the DoD funding billions in black budget items to that sort of thing, because of course. Who wouldn't want a way to make bulletproof soldiers? You don't think the soviets are pouring even more into it?

Good Omens: on fate and reality
In season 1 of Good Omens, The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch play a vital role in helping to avert the Apocalypse. Anathema dedicated her life to understanding Agnes's prophecies and thereby helping to fulfill them. But in the final episode of season 1, when the package with the follow-up collection of prophecies arrives, she decides to burn them, because she does no longer want to live her life according to the writings of her ancestor.
This is interpreted by many as Anathema taking her fate in her own hands instead of subjugating herself to something that was foretold. But the fact that she burns the prophecies instead of studying them does not necessarily mean that she changed her fate. It is entirely possible that her life will still take the road that Agnes foresaw for her. Agnes probably even predicted the burning of the new prophecies.
The only difference is that now, Anathema knows that all the decisions she makes are of her own free will, while otherwise she would have always wondered what she did because she wanted it and what she did only because Agnes had prophesied it.
A further indication that people acting according to their free will does not contradict the idea of fate is God's Ineffable Plan itself. At the end of season 1, when the Apocalypse has just been averted, Crowley asks Aziraphale: "What if the Allmighty planned it like this all along? From the very beginning?" Aziraphale agrees that this might very well be possible.
So even though all the people involved made their own free choices, they could still have been acting according to a plan God laid out very long ago.
Conclusion No. 1: Free will and fate are not mutually exclusive.
However, it seems that some things can be altered. Adam as the Antichrist has the power to bend reality. He uses it to change the fact that Satan is his father and to bring back people from the dead, for example Lesley. When Aziraphale expresses doubt about Mr. Young really being Adam's father, Crowley says: "It is. It is now. And it always was. He did it."
So Adam did not only change reality for the present and the future, but also for the past. He was able to make things that had already happened undone.
Conclusion No. 2: In the Good Omens universe, reality can be altered, even retroactively.
And the ability to change reality does not seem to be limited to Adam. Another example, as Goldfarb Styrt (cf. p. 127; cited below) points out, is Crowley being able to get himself and his Bentley through the burning M25, while Hastur gets discorporated. Crowley simply imagines that everything is fine, and by imagining it, it becomes real. Goldfarb Styrt (cf. p. 123, pp. 126-127; cited below) also suggests that it might be the individual's interpretation of reality that matters.
That sounds really fitting to me. Because the Bentley is burning, no matter how Crowley imagines otherwise, and it explodes as soon as Crowley isn't concentrating on keeping it together anymore. And, as @indigovigilance mentions in this post, the people who witnessed the incidents during the attempted Armageddon, like Atlantis rising from the sea, still remember them, even after Adam undid everything again.
But Crowley and the humans interpret the aforementioned events in a different way than you would expect, and their interpretations have an impact.
In any case, reality and the ways in which it can be altered are important themes in season 1 of Good Omens. And season 2 contains hints that they might play a big role in the finale as well. The most prominent example of these hints is the recurring mention of the Book of Life.
I will go into more detail about the Book of Life in my next post, but the important bit for now is that by erasing someone's name from it, you create a version of reality in which "they will never have existed". So the Book of Life is another tool to effectively alter reality.
Conclusion No. 3: Reality and the possibilities to alter it are important themes in Good Omens and will be relevant to plot of the finale.
That's it for now. What are your thoughts on fate and reality in Good Omens?

Predictions / wishlists for tsc2 & 3
1 - We heard Edgar Allan might bring back some graduates to coach for them, so one or more of the napkin-worthy backliners could make an appearance. Our new villain?
2 - Jeremy and Jeanâs first kiss is on the back of a motorcycle. Maybe Jean learns to ride so he can show Jeremy PCH at sunset, and is sufficiently exhilarated to get out of his own wayâŠ
3 - Jean gets his bear magnet with the red beret replaced by someone⊠and you canât prove it wonât be Zane. Gasp in horror if you want but there was a time when all we knew of Jean was that he helped Riko torture Neil. If anyone told me after that scene that he'd end up being our boy Iâd have wanted to hit them.
4 - One of the female characters gets to have an issue. KUST KIDDING! The girls are all fine, only the boys get to have issues.
5 - Jeremy and Jean each fuck someone else to try to prove something to themselves. At least one of those is probably (not) Kevin.
6 - We know someoneâs getting themselves punched and my moneyâs on Andrew punching Jean. I think theyâd talk things out afterwards, but that would need to happen first.
7 - I can also see Jean punching Jeremy - see earlier point. (Wow this post is getting bloodthirsty.) His mental state is fragile you guys. There will be drama.
8 - Jean gives his first ceramic creation to Renee. It has rainbows on it.
9 - At least one of Jeremy's secrets involves him being a lot less pure than he looks. (Does/did he pay for sex? Why did my mind go there? I just feel thereâs such a strong virgin/whore theme to Jeanâs story.)
10 - Jean hugs Wymack, resulting in my untimely death.
11 - We find out exactly which aspect of history holds Kevin so enthralled. Yes I want to see how close my hc was, but I also desperately need this insight into his character.
12 - Nora continues to unapologetically portray Thea in a way that doesnât beg for our sympathy or affection, because she is the goddess we need but donât deserve.
13 - Jean has way too much fun remorselessly prickteasing Jeremy.
14 - We learn what the fuck dealers do. I mean Iâve seen the description but how does this play out from a tactical perspective? Weâre only here for the sport, maâam.
15 - Jean recites a French quote in a tv interview that translates to âThe King is dead long live the Queenâ. (Yes punks thatâs my username)
16 - Someone gets to end Tetsuji. And by someone I mean Wymack.
17 - Jean and Jeremy live happily ever.
Yeah I know... whateverâs coming will be both better and worse than anything we can dream upâŠ

â Venus Through the Houses đȘ· (the fourth house)
The manifestations of having the planet Venus through the houses in the natal chart, in a wider perspective, without being predictable about it.
DISCLAIMER 1: I am NOT a professional astrologer, traditional or modern. I study astrology for a few years, and this is a collection of what I've learned, and what I've seen manifested in real life.
DISCLAIMER 2: Use caution and discernment when reading, and understand that this post is about one isolated planet in one isolated house in a chart. There are 12 houses, 6 major planets, 3 outer planets, and at least 5 possible major aspects between planets in your chart. Those detail can and WILL affect how the energy shows up in your life personally, so it might not apply to you. Everybody is unique.
đđđđđđđđđđđđđđđđđ
Venus in the 4th house đĄđ©
What a lovely, deep and rich placement, this one. I try not to overhype nor demonize any placement, because each one has its own moments, good and bad. But this one is very cute. I'll be honest with you and say that it does NOT guarantee a fairytale, but if it's well-aspected, if other parts of the chart agree with, it could be inducing to very beautiful things.
Imagine the planet of love making her literal home in your house of feelings, the deepest most private part of your chart. Here, feelings gush out like a waterfall. Venus in the 4H lives on cloud 9. It lives in a state of buzzing romance 24/7. Venus here also breaks her natural character of wanting to be pampered and waited on, and she wants to do the nurturing herself. Of course, she wants to feel cared for back too. Very generous Venus.
The good đ:
Very nurturing people. Warm and welcoming.
Great listeners and very empathetic.
Beautiful way with words. Not in a poetic sense, but in an emotionally sensitive way. They know what to say, when to say it and how to say to make someone feel loved and protected.
Protective of loved ones, but not in an aggressive way.
Tend to be tender, sweet and gentle.
Very angelic demeanor. Might have cherub face too.
Knows how to make any place a home.
Is somewhat of a leader (since it is a cardinal house), but in a Cancer-like way. It leads not because it commands people, but because people just trust them to lead and feel safe with them, fully believing they will do the best to provide love and care and protection.
Put their heart and soul into whatever they do.
Knows how to build a genuine connection.
Great mothers. (And fathers).
Can be good cooks or bakers (but I myself consider baking part of cooking, so I don't separate them).
Romantics at heart. About all things.
Might like children a lot and want a big family of their own.
Could possibly get along with their family very well.
Can instantly make others feel safe and trust them.
Knows how to translate their feelings.
Good emotional intelligence.
The bad đ :
Might be prone to melodrama, and could be overdramatic.
Could be too cautious with their feelings, to a point they become guarded.
Might be stingy and hold on to things too tightly.
Could "eat their feelings" when stressed, which could lead to unwanted weight gain, an eating disorder, shame around food, or not learning healthy ways to self-regulate.
Family could be ALL up in their business all the time. Serious boundaries issues.
Could be nitpicky, just as much as Virgos. Could be a snob about cleanliness.
Slight tendency to take their feelings out on other people.
This one is gonna be hard to say, and hard to read, so, please READ WITH CAUTION â it's not about everyone. Just SOME people: Could be the type who threatens to kill themselves if a lover tries to end the relationship. Depending on how problematic the person is, might actually go ahead and actually do harm themselves, not bc they actually want to end themselves, but to guilt their ex into not leaving.
Inability to let go of toxic relationships because they feel bad for the person, or don't wanna lose what's familiar, and might wear rose-colored glasses around people from their childhood. 4H Venus is like a combination of Scorpio and Pisces Venus.
Prone to immaturity fits, wanting to be babied by others.
Could struggle with a nasty little victim complex.
Could have a "me, me, me!" attitude, but in a different way than 1H. It's more "But, what about ME and MY FEELINGS?!" kind of way.
Could struggle to spend their hard-earned money on themselves because they keep giving it away to their family/friends/buying things for the house.
Might overlook themselves physically and emotionally because they keep waiting that others are gonna take care of them instead.
Forms bonds too quickly, get too eager, might scare people away.
In love đ:
Wants to formalize quickly.
Prefers committed relationships.
Wants to have a family.
Will devote themselves to their partner.
Could get hurt easily in love.
Emotional manipulation.
Or could just be the utmost sweetheart.
Acts of service and quality time as love language.
A little jealous from time to time.
Will try to harmonize and find a common ground when in disputes or disagreements.
Could do some shady shit behind their partner's back to fulfill personal dreams (e.g.: stopping taking contraceptives without telling them to get pregnant without the partner's consent, because they want kids.)
Could struggle with boundaries themselves and overstep a lot. Might also force themselves into private parts of their lover's life that the person hadn't felt comfortable giving access to yet.
Could confuse drama and emotional turmoil with passion and might even romanticize it and think that if they just conquer it, love will be like a movie.
Could have a food compulsion.
Could struggle with laziness, even more so than 2H Venus.
The type to cook, clean, sew, nurse and therapize their partner.
Wants to feel safe and loved above all else.
Will share all the parts to them with their partner.
Will put the children before the marriage/union after having them together.
Will step into some form of a traditional role one way or another, regardless if they are male, female or otherwise.
Lasting love. Love that leaves a mark on their psyche.
Big hearts, even bigger hearts in love.
Makes a lot of plans and dreams they wanna achieve with their loved one.
Drama queen when feeling slighted.
Not a stranger to the occasional "psycho girlfriend" behavior, regardless if they are a male. That's usually a sign they are emotionally exhausted at that point, though.
Easy to love, even easier to give love.
Might preserve the relationship a lot, shielding it from the world.
"You and me against the world" type of relationships.
Usually successful in marriage.

Danganronpa: Despair Time Mastermind Ranking (Least to Most)
Yeah, I shouldâve known that I needed to get around to this someday.
You see, the reason why I hadnât made a theory about the identity of the Despair Time mastermind is that⊠I'm not totally convinced on any one person being the mastermind. Like, look at these clowns! Theyâre all so weird! I love them all for it, obviously, but none of their personality quirks or roles in the story stand out to me as particularly mastermind-y. There are a lot of characters that I believe could be the mastermind, but itâs also pretty easy to convince me out of it for one reason or another.
However, itâs not like I had any idea about who the P:EG mastermind would be, either! At least with two chapters under its belt, I can feel more comfortable that Iâm not just fully mischaracterizing the Despair Time cast. And I definitely have things to say about various DRDT masterminds, just⊠in a way thatâs kinda hard to rank.
But, thatâs no reason for me to be cowardly! Iâm sure that seriously scrutinizing all of the charactersâ mastermind potentials and ultimately coming up with who I think the most likely candidate is will be super fun. Itâs just⊠going to be really long, so, buckle in. And maybe prepare to take breaks in the middle.
(Spoilers for all three main canon games and DRDT.)
Why is it going to be so long? Well, itâs because, when it comes to DRDT, I think that my predictions will be at least partially based on how long I think each character will make it into the story. If I have a particularly strong inclination that a character is going to die in Chapter 3.456, no matter how unfounded, it might make me feel worse about their prospects of being the mastermind. Thatâs not to say that a mastermind canât appear to die (or actually die) before Chapter 6 rolls around, of course. However, it is an uncommon additional hurdle to the story that would require some justification and a little suspension of disbelief if Iâm trying to call it years before it transpires.
So, if weâre going to talk about the mastermind, I need to share my current feelings about where each character might place in the death order. Should I update the titleâŠ?
Danganronpa: Despair Time Mastermind Ranking (Least to Most) AND ALSO Death Order Predictions
These are my mastermind rankings, so my opinions on where the characters might be headed will obviously be used as the baseline. Naturally, you donât need to believe in anything I'm about to throw out here. Iâm just trying to explain my thought process so that nothing I say later on will come as a total surprise.
Also, since itâs kind of long, hereâs the top of the death order section. I think itâll provide some important context, but if you want to skip it, look for the other green, bold text.
Some of my thoughts were inspired by anderscimâs death predictions theory, as I read that pretty soon after I joined the fandom. I encourage you to go read their work as well!
The tiers are mostly pretty self explanatoryâ 3-4 means I think theyâre at risk of dying sooner and 4-5 means I think theyâre at risk of dying later. But, Iâll give everyone what I hope to be a quick rundown on each character just to explain my thinking.Â
Xander: Xander canonically died as the Chapter 1 victim.
Min: Min canonically died as the Chapter 1 blackened.
Arei: While I respect the concept, I personally donât believe in the âJ and Arei swapped places and Arei is actually still aliveâ theory, and I will be writing the rest of this post accordingly. So, to me, Arei canonically died as the Chapter 2 victim.
Eden: Pretty much anyone whoâs seen my DRDT theories at this point shouldn't be surprised that Iâm listing Eden as the Chapter 2 killer. The logic behind this belief has been explained by my lovely mutuals here and here.
Levi: Alright, on to the ones I donât have any concrete evidence to support! (There is concrete evidence behind the ch2 murder, even if you believe it points elsewhere.) Levi has had a decent amount of focus already in his trainwreck of a relationship with Ace and discussions of morality with Eden and Teruko. If he does serve as an accomplice to the Chapter 2 killer (see the first link in Edenâs section), then I feel like his clock will really be ticking. Heâd be trapped with the branding of a bad person, his greatest fear, and left without any relationships to lean on. I wouldnât be surprised if someone targeted him as a victim they âbelieved deserved to die after what happened,â or even if Levi decided that he was doomed to be a villain from the start and decided to kill. Alternatively, he could try to redeem himself as a classic Chapter 4 buff curse sacrifice in some way. In either case (or even in the case of him just being the Chapter 2 killer), I have my doubts that heâll be making it too much later into the game.
Arturo: To me, Arturo doesnât feel like a character set up for incredible longevity. That doesnât mean Iâm pigeonholing him as a one-dimensional villain or pure comedic relief, just that Arturo seems like a character who might be set up to have his ideology lead to his downfall. I donât think heâs dying in Chapter 2, as I believe the narrative would want to see how he reacts to J burning the bridges between them, but I could definitely see the story only needing one more round of daily life (or possibly a trial as well) to resolve wherever his character is going.
Charles: Look, itâs not only because heâs already been pronounced dead at 3. As I elaborated upon in Charlesâ section of this post (The Jerk), Charles feels like heâs speeding towards the end of his character arc far ahead of schedule. It could just be that he needed to learn to make friends quickly before Whit makes an early exit, sending him on a secondary arc where he learns to process his current grief and fears as a parallel to regaining memories about Elliot. However, I find it much more likely that the Inevitable CharWhit Doom Scenario plays out in the opposite direction. He makes a lot of sense as a Chapter 3 victim to me.
Nico: Similar to Arei and J, I am writing all of my theories with the assumption that it really was Nico who attempted to murder Ace in Chapter 2, because I think it makes the most narrative sense. (I could keep typing out a âwell, unlessâ every time, but I donât really want to eat up my time writing or your time reading all of that.) Through that lens, the fact that Nico has already murdered someone and âgotten away with it,â more or less, puts them in a really weird situation. I donât really see them killing again, as it feels like weâve already explored the emotional and narrative implications of that happening through Chapter 2. Although, I canât deny that it would be interesting to see the fallout of Ace being proven totally right and Hu 100% wrong. Still, if they were to be a survivor after doing something so severe so early into the game, it seems like they would have to undergo some sort of redemption for the audience to accept them as a face of hope in the end. I donât currently see any great paths to that happening, although thereâs obviously still plenty of story time for something to open up. For now, though, I feel more confident in placing them as a early/mid-game victim, likely as a consequence of choosing to harm someone else.
Hu: Given her overall lack of focus in the story thus far, I find it likely that Hu will be one of the focal characters of the Chapter 3 daily life. That could be bad news, considering how Xander and Arei fared after being focused upon in their respective daily lives, but⊠I dunno, I just feel like Hu would survive it, somehow? Wouldnât be too surprised if she didnât, but my gut instinct is that she would. I kind of see her character exiting the story in Chapter 4, no preference on killer vs victim.
Veronika: Veronika is a very weird character (an âoddball,â Iâll call it), and thus, my predictions for her are strongly based on the patterns that oddball characters normally follow. Iâll be using canon characters only, because I believe that those are the only killing games that I have the right to assume every DRDT fan has seen. But, you can apply these same kinds of patterns to many fangan characters. Donât get me wrong, Iâm all for fangans breaking from typical Danganronpa norms and following their own paths. But, in the case of how oddballs are treated, I think these characters generally tend to follow these patterns because theyâre sensible writing practices. Iâll try to explain why each of these conventions makes sense in the following bullet points.
Oddballs tend not to die in Chapters 1 or 2. This is because oddball characters are generally created to supply a very niche kind of comedic reliefâ examples from DRDT could include Arturoâs commentary on ugly people or Aceâs bizarre remarks of cowardice. Any character deemed worthy of being included in a fangan occupies one of 16 highly contested slots. So, if you include a character for the purpose of making jokes with them, you'll want to get your bang for your buck! Itâs hard to fit every joke you have in mind into only a chapter or two. The best example I could come up with for a (canon) oddball who dies early is Teruteru. In his case, the writers likely anticipated that his hyper-flirtatious nature would get tiring if it continued on for too long, and thus, exhausted all of the jokes they wanted to make in Chapter 1 before his exit. An oddball who dies this early has a limited shelf life, and is likely accompanied by other oddballs who can pick up the comedic slack.
Many have pointed out that silly oddballs often die in Chapter 3 (Hifumi, Ibuki, Tenko) as a way to signify the death of fun and innocence. You also have a chance to get rid of some of the more sinister oddballs (Celeste, Kiyo) at a point where it seems unfeasible for them to have stuck around this long without⊠well, killing someone. In either case, itâs because Chapter 3 is a great balance of letting a character stay in a story for long enough that they achieve whatever strange effects you wanted from them, while also clearing them off the stage before you get into the really serious business. Silly oddballs especially may not be equipped to handle the often turbulent natures of Chapter 4 without breaking the serious tone too much, so itâs best to axe them at the midpoint.
Endearing oddballs (Gundham, Gonta) have a hard time making it past Chapter 4. If Chapter 4 is serious, Chapters 5 and 6 are even more so, and the Chapter 4 killer slot in particular is a viable dumping ground for characters who donât really have a place in the finale. Their deaths are meant to pull at your heartstrings and prove how a killing game can make literally anyoneâ yes, even that guyâ a killer. (Miu is an outlier; more like an extended Chapter 3. Unlike THH, which has its tonal shift at the end-of-Ch3-Sakura Traitor Reveal, and SDR2, which has its tonal shift at Mikanâs insanity and death, v3âs tonal shift comes at Kokichi's accusation and Kaito and Shuichi's argument, or possibly even Miu's death itself. The Chapter 4 Daily Life isnât all that serious in and of itself. Thus, Miu dying as a Ch4 victim functions more like killing off a silly oddball before she has to deal with all the betrayal and scheming that occurs later on.)
Oddballs really only die in Chapter 5 to the extent that you can count major antagonists like Nagito and Kokichi as Weird Dudes. As the precursor to the big, showstopping, mind-bending Chapter 5 Trial, the mood is typically pretty⊠straightforward. Depending on the overall plotâs arc, Chapter 5 is either the point where most of the surviving students are concluding their character arcs and learning how potent a weapon teamwork is (THH, SDR2), or a âdark night of the soulâ type moment where all of the slowly growing inter-character conflicts are finally coming to a head (v3). It can also be Version A for some characters and Version B for others, but, either way, hijinks are not ensuing, basically. Plot relevant things happen here, and as such, plot relevant characters are the ones who are dying. It can be hard for an oddball to find a place in the narrative relevant enough to serve as one of its final, poignant deaths without also being a major antagonist.
Despite everything Iâve said about oddballs dying, it is definitely possible for oddballs to survive. Danganronpa is, at its core, a dark comedy, and as such killing off all of your funny joke characters before the ending is probably a bad move. Hiro, Toko, Kazuichi, and Himiko are all characters Iâd call oddballs that survive until the very end. The difference in their case is that part of their oddball nature is being⊠kind of pathetic? I think it helps them fade into the background more. It's also probably easier to give them a character arc than some others... like Veronika.
Iâm sure that you can find exceptions to these ârulesâ Iâve laid out, especially amongst casts that have a high percentage of oddballs (which you could certainly argue fits DRDT). However, pattern recognition brain go brrrr. I donât think that Veronika fits the description of a Chapter 1-2, Chapter 4, or survivor oddball particularly well. That leaves Chapter 3 (sinister) and Chapter 5 (bewildering antagonist). I donât know if itâs that Veronika doesn't seem to have much of a reason to kill at this point in time or all of Veronikaâs weird mastermind coding that makes me think DRDTdev might have greater plans for her. Either way, Iâm leaning Chapter 5, probably victim. Jeez, that was a long section for one character. Favoritism, I guess?
J: J gets her own category because, honestly, I have no idea what to do with her. Could J make it to the end? Sure! Could J die in a Chapter 3 scheme? Sure! Could J be the Chapter 2 killer? Well, I personally believe the evidence points elsewhere, but in terms of narrative? Sure! The only real inclination I have is that I think itâs more likely that she would be a killer than a victim, mostly because Ultimate Effects Artist is a talent that could lend itself to some really creative and fun murder setups. Given that I have more characters pegged as early game deaths right now, I lean towards J late game, but⊠man, I donât know!
Teruko: Teruko is the protagonist, and also is a Lucky Student who allegedly âcanât die.â Especially after she made that claim, it would be silly if she died before the endingâ itâd just kinda make her look like a fool. Iâm not averse to theories where Teruko is no longer the protagonist by the end, whether by her death or someone else taking up the role for whatever reason, but in the sense that âSurvivorâ = âChapter 6,â I think Teruko will survive. Iâm not here to predict crazy last-minute Kiibo-blowing-himself-up twists.
Rose: I think that Rose has a really nice arc of overcoming her fears and becoming less passive set up in front of her. We spent enough time establishing her relationship with Teruko that I could see her being a good potential friend/support character to Teruko in the endgame if relationships with people like Eden or Charles fall through. (And, at this point, you know what I think about Eden and CharlesâŠ) Sheâs also good at delivering low-key jokes that can provide some levity without totally ruining the tone. We already saw some of that in this scene. The main things that I think could be standing in her way are her photographic memory and history of debt. The photographic memory could be too annoying of an obstacle to write around for the entire game, and instead be an ongoing effect set to expire in in Chapter 3. Additionally, a money motive paralleling THHâs in Chapter 3 could be too tempting for Rose to pass up. Really, what Iâm saying is, if Rose can make it through Chapter 3, I think sheâs golden. Weâll just have to see how that Chapter pans out in the future.
David: Oh, David. Currently serving as Terukoâs largest antagonist, I can see why people would think that he would die in Chapter 5. However, Iâm not going to beat around the bush and pretend that Iâm the only person who thinks David might survive, either. As an inspirational speaker, David is established early on as a character who should be a beacon of hope, before revealing that heâs more of a hope-sucking black hole. It would make sense if, alongside Teruko, he learns to find more of a balance between blithe optimism and cynical depression and heal as a person. He has a lot of very obvious depth that I think a lot of people want to see explored, and whose exploration would be very on-brand for the themes of a typical killing game story. Plus, if Teruko ever does stop being the protagonist, David probably needs to be alive at that point to pick up the slack.
Ace: Similar to Nico, it seems like weâve already gotten a taste of what Ace being a victim would be like, in a way where I donât think weâre going to see it again. He could still be a killer, but would the cowardly Ace even want to attempt killing someone and throwing himself into the scrutiny of a Class Trial? Well, it is true that Ace believes that â[neither] dying young or living a long, shitty life of suffering⊠are as bad as thisâ (the killing game?). So, he could simply grow fed up with the killing game and decide that risking a Class Trial is worth it, even if he does wind up dying young. However, if that were to occur, Chapter 2 seems like the narratively best time to do it, as itâs when his emotions are most potent and probably when others would least expect him to do it due to his weakened state. Like Rose, I feel the period Ace has most to worry about is this upcoming Chapter 2 killer slot, but if he makes it through, his arc of learning to escape his fear by bravely rising above it instead of lashing out to try to knock everyone down feels very viable.
Whit: The pro of the Inevitable CharWhit Doom Scenario is that, hopefully, one of the two would manage to make it as a survivor after the other one dies. And, Iâm Team Whit Surviving! Not just based on which of the two I like better (theyâre my first and second favorite characters, so Iâm taking a massive L either way), but because I think it makes more sense for it to be Whit that lives further on. Unlike Charles, who feels like heâs already in the final lap of the character arc race, Whit has barely left the starting line. The laundry scene in Chapter 1 and Whitâs secret in Chapter 2 have both been used to establish that Whit focuses on his and othersâ bliss in hopes of remaining ignorant of everything that stresses him. The main offender, of course, being that Whit lies about his mom being alive to presumably stave off his grief. The easiest way to give him a character arc that resolves that issue is to give him something to grieveâ namely, Charlesâ and soon. If Whitâs main character struggle is pretending that people dying doesnât bother him, he might need an entire Chapter or more to stubbornly show off his central flaw. Now, it is possible that, if Whit canât overcome this flaw, he could die soon after Charles and meet a tragic fate. But, those just⊠arenât the vibes, to me? A post-character arc Whit who knows how to grieve fiercely but healthily might come in handy if Teruko finds herself handling her own emotions about Xander, Min, and/or anyone else at the end of the game.
And hereâs the bottom of the death order section!
Finally finished writing something that nobody asked of me at all. Well, I still think it was important, and I hope you feel the same.
Now that weâve laid all that out, I think itâs finally time to actually see who I think the Danganronpa: Despair Time mastermind might be! Although, please keep in mind that, despite the large preamble full of story predictions, Iâm still pretty uncertain on who I think the mastermind is. So, my points might not be the best supported, and I might change my mind again pretty soon after I post this theory. I expect to be far better at disproving why everyone is the mastermind rather than proving why anyone would be, because thatâs generally how I feel⊠but, onwards we go!
#17: Arei Nageishi
(Forgive me for reusing art here, Iâve drawn these bastards ENOUGH /j)
If I were writing this after Despair Timeâs prologue, like I did with P:EG, thereâs a pretty good chance that Arei, at the very least, wouldnât have placed dead last. But, well, now Arei is dead. And also last.
Obviously, there are other dead characters too. But still, Arei is the one who I most struggle to see as the mastermind. Given that Arei died as a victim whose body was thoroughly investigated by several parties, itâs pretty hard for me to believe that anyone could have missed any signs of life. I donât get the sense that DRDT is in some kind of simulation where everyone can magically be alive again at the end either, so I think Arei is, sadly, well and truly dead.
On top of all that, we know a lot about her backstory from her Chapter 2 breakdown, and none of it seems to point her towards masterminding a killing game specifically. She doesnât have any particular ties to any big organizations that would have helped her accomplish it, either. While she is NOT just a temporary weather spell whose absence will be celebrated and then forgotten, David⊠I have a hard time believing that the audience would find her character relevant enough(?) to be a good twist mastermind come Chapter 6 several years down the line.
I donât think I really need to keep elaborating on this. Arei isnât the mastermind.
#16: Charles Cuevas
I know itâs a bit of a bold move to put a character whoâs currently alive below characters who have already died, but⊠man, I really just donât see how Charles could pull this off.
And itâs not (just) because I think heâs going to die in Chapter 3 as part of Whitâs character arc, or that I want to believe that heâs a good person. Really, itâs mostly because of his phobias. How is a guy who started gagging at the sight of blood splattered on the floor supposed to be the one who orchestrated an entire death game? Could he get through the process of creating a brutal execution like Minâs without freezing up and freaking out? Even if he could do it, why would he? Sure, he didnât seem to remember the fact that he had necrophobia until Xander died, but that might be even more of a problem. Wouldnât the mastermind, whoâs certainly had to consider the othersâ deaths before, remember that they were afraid of death? He would almost certainly have to be lying about at least the scale of his reaction, although thatâs probably a given if he is the mastermind.
Of course, there are mastermind subcategories that could better benefit Charles. If DRDT is actually a simulation, especially one in which the participants donât actually die, that would definitely make it easier for him to be the one behind it. Weâre also meant to believe that Charles has childhood amnesia, so he could have amnesia in other areas as well and be a mastermind who forgot they were one.
However, as I said before, I donât particularly believe that DRDT is going to be a computer simulation or that Charles is an amnesiac mastermind. I just⊠donât see this one in general.
#15: Xander Matthews
Let me preface this by saying that Iâm not trying to argue that Xander is actually still alive. The concept that he would be able to fool not only Min, making her believe that she dealt him a fatal blow, but also everyone else as they identified his body, seems outlandish to me. However, just because Xander is dead doesnât mean that he couldnât have entered this game as the mastermind.
We know for a fact that Xander wanted to kill Teruko due to his dialogue regarding the note he received, which lines up well with the popular theory that Xander is the individual speaking in the first scene with the papers and the blood. If we assume he is that guy, then it may seem a little counterintuitive to think that the person who says âI have to end the killing gameâ would be the one behind the killing game. However, he also says, âEven if I canât do that⊠I have to kill Teruko Tawaki,â implying that killing Teruko is of a higher priority than ending âthe killing game.â Thus, if, for some reason, Xander thought that orchestrating the killing game was the only way to kill Teruko, itâs possible that he would be willing to let the death game roll for as long as it takes to eliminate his bigger target.
However, I canât deny that the Xander mastermind theory has some massive flaws to it. For one, Xander is dead. I donât think weâve technically seen any evidence that the mastermind has to still be alive as of Chapter 2, but a mastermind-less Chapter 6 would be⊠an interesting challenge to write, to say the least. Also, while Xander betraying Teruko and the others was a great surprising hook the first time, if it happened again, it would be kind of⊠underwhelming, in my opinion. Itâs the same kind of concept I brought up in my Edenâs Garden ranking:
Then, in Chapter 6, weâd be faced with the revelation that, wow, the mildly antagonistic character was actually a really antagonistic character all along! It just doesnât seem like enough of a dramatic hook to me, I guess?
âWow, the guy who betrayed Teruko and became a killer actually betrayed Teruko and was the mastermind all along! And now, heâs not even around to reap the social or karmic consequences of it!â You see.
And then, there is the literal interpretation of the text that Xander (if he is bloody hands man) obviously stands against the killing games. Heâs also the Ultimate Rebel, someone who stands against corrupt institutions in general.
If Xander is revealed to be evil later down the line, it would make much more sense if it was as a traitor type. As for being the one and only mastermind, I think the odds are pretty low.
#14: Ace Markey
Hey, itâs another character thatâs alive! And, this one doesnât even have a crippling fear of death. However, he is a massive coward, and thatâs the main thing thatâs dragging him down for me.
Similar to Charles, what would Ace stand to gain from hosting a killing game such as this? Ace doesnât seem to have any interest in notoriety, money, the destruction of society, despair, or any other things that I can think of that would motivate a typical mastermind. Weâve seen time and time again that Ace cares most about having control over both his life and how other people see him, even though he often fails on both fronts. I guess both of those things could be solved by hosting a killing game, but⊠Come on, there have gotta be easier ways to do that which donât threaten your precious life.
Furthermore, what exactly would Ace being the mastermind have to say about the story as a whole? Jockey has to be in the running for âtalents that are least relevant to a potential killing game host.â How about the idea that the mastermind nearly died in Chapter 2, only to go off the rails threatening and blaming his assailant? I⊠always knew that Nico was⊠fully in the right for doing that, because it would have killed the big bad early??? Ace Mastermind is the preferred ending for those who believe that Nico can do absolutely no wrong, lol.
I canât remember where I saw it, but I once saw a theory of writing that said that there are two major kinds of character arcs. One is the typical character arc, where the narrative pushes a character's traits to change over the course of the story for better of for worse. The other, this theory posited, was an arc on the part of the viewer, where they learn that a character that they thought was flawed was actually not as flawed as they thought all along. You could potentially apply this kind of thing to Eden: in the first chapter, some people may have seen her as a dim-witted positive girl, but in Chapter 2, we firmly establish that her kindness is not stupidity and learn how her optimism is a strength.
So, you could say that the character arc DRDTdev is going for with Ace is something more like that, where we spend the entire game learning to treat him more seriously just in time for him to be a real threat as the mastermind? It still feels like a bit of a stretch, thoughâ I donât know exactly what Ace would do to make us take him more seriously that wouldnât either send him on a growth arc not super befitting of a mastermind or wind up with him being a blackened. Ace as the mastermind certainly isnât impossible, but I obviously found it unlikely enough that I placed him below one character who is currently (presumed) dead.
#13: Arturo Giles
Arturoâs role in the story so far is not very mastermind-ish, in my mind. In the prologue, we establish him as a cold and judgmental person who puts his own opinions of how the world works over everything else, especially how other people feel. This already feels like how a mastermind would act, so if he turned out to be the mastermind, it would be more of the same.
Then, in Chapter 2, we establish that heâs a massive simp for celebrities, to the point of transforming into something adjacent to comedic relief. Weâre meant to think that his over-the-top sprites and refusal to actually listen to anything J is saying is hilariously pathetic. Other characters are constantly dunking on him, such as Teruko calling him a âbigotedâ âcrazy person,â and even the narrative gets in on the action when highlighting how he cares less about the fact that Jâs life was at risk than that she didnât come out of it with drip. Narratively, weâve already seen these characters get the better of Arturo. If we the audience interpret that as confirmation that the surviving cast could easily beat Arturo should he ever come to stand in their way, it could diminish the stakes upon his mastermind reveal.
However, for all of his negatives, there are some definite positives to Arturo being the mastermind, too. Despite his comedic effects, we have seen through his threats to Eden that Arturo is very capable of being very scary in a way that I donât think we have with Ace. The horror factor of a plastic surgeon as the mastermind could be a really fun and creepy design theme to explore. And, Arturo is obviously super obsessed with celebrities. If hosting a deadly TV show is what he thought it would take to get him in with the Hollywood celebrity scene, he might be willing to go for it.
I donât really know why he would have made his secret what it is if he was going to get that upset about it, though. I guess if there just werenât any better options that wouldnât tip his handâŠ? Also, Arturo would blend in terribly as a survivor. If youâre heading into Chapter 6 and you have to pick the evil character out of (let me spin a wheel real quick...) Teruko, Eden, Rose, Charles, and Arturo, Arturo is definitely the evil one. (Okay, that was actually a terrible randomized draw for Arturo on the innocence front, but I hope you can imagine how he would oddly stick out of most groups.) Like I said in his death predictions, I find it hard to imagine a character arc for Arturo, which is why I find it hard to believe that he would make it as far as Chapter 6.
#12: Min Jeung
Honestly, if Min werenât (most likely) dead, she might be pretty high on my list of mastermind choices. While not as suspicious as the Spurlings, XF-Ture Tech is pretty suspicious, even more so with the introduction of that one altDRDT character. Min is related to XF-Ture Tech, so if that company has anything to do with the operation of the killing game, she could have been the one behind it. Min is also very smart, and her talent has obvious applications for how it could have been used to set up/influence the killing game. The fact that her talent is so similar to Terukoâs, Ultimate Student versus Ultimate Lucky Student, could have also set them up for some great parallels and duality down the line.
However⊠Minâs role as the Chapter 1 killer throws a pretty big wrench in her chances. Beyond the dying part, Minâs role as the blackened was incredibly evitable. Itâs not like she was thrown into a situation where she had to kill or be killed, or even one where a motive was particularly difficult for her. If she wanted to be the mastermind and survive until the end, all she had to do was walk away from Xander stabbing Teruko and pretend she never saw it. However, if Minâs goal was the inverse of olâ Bloody Hands (keep the killing game running, but most importantly, keep Teruko alive), her actions could line up. And then, perhaps Min could have falsified her own execution early to draw suspicion off of her, much like Junko did by killing Mukuro.
Beyond her death, though, itâs really Minâs reaction to being the blackened that makes me think she canât be the mastermind. The stellar voice acting in Minâs breakdown scenes makes me really believe both that this was the first time she had ever hurt anyone as gravely as she did to Xander, and that she fully believed that she was about to die. Those are two things that a mastermind, especially one headed into a fake execution, would not be feeling. Maybe Min memorized how to be a great actress too amongst all those textbooks, but I doubt it. I can still see several reasons why Min would have been a good mastermind, but her actual death and her reaction to being told she was dying knock her down several pegs in my mind.
#11: Hu Jing
Hu is a bit more suspicious to me than some others just because I think she has something to hide. Between her refusal to share whose secret she received or had herself, mysterious âI want to pay for what Iâve doneâ hidden quote, and intense desire to be relied upon, thereâs definitely something about Hu as a person that the narrative has yet to uncover. Could that something be âHu is the mastermindâ? I dunno, maybe.
Hu also has a tendency to react to things with her temper. That could be a sort of foreshadowing to how she would act as the mastermind, much like how Davidâs brief spell of apathy during the prologue hinted at the way he would act further down the line. Huâs defense of Nico could act much the same way. Our overall impression of Hu at this point is that, while she is a flawed person, sheâs one of the nicest and morally best people in the game, whoâs always looking out for others. Defending Nico to the point of babying them might cross the line a little, but sheâs only trying to help everyoneâŠ! Hu could make it to the end as a believably heroic survivor and then reveal that all of her presumed poor decisions were actually active malice, and I think she could pull that off.
All that being said⊠I donât, like, actually think thatâs going to happen. In fact, Iâm probably overexaggerating the extent to which people think that Hu is nice and morally good. Iâve seen several people discuss the unjust amounts of hate Hu gets in this fandom, which implies that a lot of people hate her, even if I havenât particularly seen much of it myself. At the very least, I definitely over exaggerated the extent to which people believe Hu could survive! As implied in the death order predictions, I do personally think Hu is going to die, possibly as a consequence of getting too invested in everyone elseâs business when they donât want her to be and/or wearing herself too thin. There are paths which I believe could lead to Hu being the mastermind, but they seem to be the roads less likely traveled.
#10: David Chiem
While I have no doubts that David has the fame, charisma, and worldview to pull off a killing game⊠Iâd have to wonder about how he would see himself playing into all of it. As we saw in Chapter 2, David knows that his career has a lot of value, possibly to himself but definitely to other people, and therefore, he doesnât want to jeopardize it. In fact, the reveal of his manipulative secret was the inciting incident behind his massive change in characterization. So, if he were the mastermind of a televised killing game⊠How would he think that would play out to his viewers?
Now, to be fair, thereâs a lot we donât know about the worldbuilding of DRDT. MonoTV claims that the TV show will be broadcast to a widespread audience. Perhaps that indicates that, in the world of DRDT, publicly broadcasting talented young peoplesâ violent deaths is normal, or even sought after. Maybe the cast of DRDT forgot about it.
However, David seems to think that people learning that he sees everyone as manipulable would do damage to his reputation, so itâs a bit of a contradiction either way. If the world has been wracked with despair and craves intense violence on TV, then Davidâs reaction to his secret is either an elaborate lie or the result of the mastermind erasing his own memories regarding the situation. (Or, I guess the public could see death as fine and dandy but manipulation as a cancellable offense, which is⊠one of the interpretations ever.) Otherwise, in the scenario that the DRDT world is a normal one, David wouldnât care about being revealed as a manipulator if heâd already committed to the mastermind bit. If his career was already preemptively ruined by agreeing to commit literal murder, why get so worked up about the thought that people might abandon ship over you not being 100% honest?
And then, thereâs also the whole âsurprise factorâ thing that I keep bringing up. Admittedly, itâs been a longer hiatus between the start of Chapter 2 and the end of Chapter 2 than DRDTdev might have been hoping for, but that doesnât change the fact that this part of Davidâs characterization happened in Chapter 2. DRDT fans far and wide have written thousands of words gushing over âthe David revealâ or âevil David.â If David were unveiled as the mastermind, weâd have to start writing stuff about âthe first David revealâ or âwhen David showed his true colors again.â You see how it kind of takes the hype away from such major plot points? Thatâs the sort of concept Iâve been trying to get across with some of my other choices too, but a bit more clear cut.
I donât know why I sound so much like a hater in this section (in my opinion) when Iâm literally putting David at #10, above seven other characters. I guess itâs because I can see why his theatricality and traits foiling Teruko could make him a good mastermind, but also have some major issues with the logistics of him getting there. A lot of good points versus a lot of bad points settle out to him winding up someone in the middle.
#9: Levi Fontana
With our first single digit number, weâve also reached our midway point of mastermind candidates: Levi!
Levi would be a really interesting mastermind choice because of how his character centers around grappling with his morality. I think it would be really intriguing to have a mastermind outwardly struggling with their attempts and failures to be a good person throughout the entire game, only for the player and the characters to receive the full context of the debacle at the very end. I guess in this situation, it would be pretty likely that Levi would be redeemed at the end? Thatâs not necessarily a problem. (Honestly, I donât know if I think the DRDT mastermind could be redeemed or not based on the fanganâs themes⊠thatâs a post for another day, perhaps.)
Anyways, I think that what we know of Leviâs backstory could work well with him being the mastermind. If he does have the âmurderer without remorseâ secret, that would be in line with orchestrating a killing game. We also know that heâs âbeen disownedâ and that he and his family were âall bad influences on each other.â Weâre meant to assume that Levi was fortunate enough to escape a bad/abusive situation (and in all likelihood this IS what actually happened!!!!), but we are hearing about the situation from his point of view alone. There is a small possibility that, if Levi is actually a despair enjoyer, his family cut him out because they thought he was a danger to their lives.
I will reiterate again, though, that I donât think this is the case. Levi seems like heâs a chill guy, or at least that heâs trying very hard to be one despite how heâs been told to react all his life. The whole âmastermind wanting to become a good personâ lens also makes less sense given how channeled Leviâs development is through Ace. Like, I would imagine that, if this were the angle DRDTdev was going for, Levi would be making an effort to get along with everyone as part of his atonement. The mastermind randomly choosing to focus on just one person out of the crowd seems kind of strange, especially when that person is someone as disagreeable as Ace. That kind of plot would have big âthe mafia CEO vampire prince fell head over heels in love with me, the random average girlâ vibes. Repenting mastermind Levi is the preferred ending for pining lovers to enemies to lovers AceVi shippers, lol.
And then thereâs the part where I think heâs going to die. I donât think Levi is the worst mastermind choice, but I think there are better out there.
#8: Nico Hakobyan
Yay, we finally got to one of the characters that Anon thought was suspicious! It only took⊠7k+ words. Oh boy.
I definitely think that the cat coding is the strongest thing that Nico has going for them. It would be pretty funny if the extent to which âUltimate Pet Therapistâ is relevant to the plot is the climactic reveal that âyeah Nico has been talking to a (robotic) animal the whole time.â Thatâs a joke, as Ultimate Pet Therapist is already quite relevant to Nicoâs characterization as someone who prefers communicating with animals over people, but it would be funny as hell from a character designing perspective.
There are less silly reasons to believe that Nico is the mastermind too, though. While it seems like, similar to David, pulling the trigger on Nicoâs change in behavior in Chapter 2 would be a bit early, I donât think itâs as destructive to mastermind Nico as it is to mastermind David. Thereâs a lot more doubt in peopleâs minds that Nico even did anything to Ace, to the extent that a decent number of people (in the story and out of it) think that it was someone else trying to kill Ace entirely. Nico also has a stalwart defender in Hu, which adds an extra level of intrigue to the situation. Instead of confirming that everyone was right to be suspicious of David, at least some amount of focus could be placed onto Hu being wrong for trusting Nico and failing to see someoneâs true colors again, which could be interesting for her characterization if she was alive at that point.
On the other hand, the biggest reason that I think Nico isnât the mastermind is also because of the attempted Ace murder. Why would Nico, as the mastermind, try to kill Ace at this time? If Nico wins the Class Trial, then the killing game is over, which is probably counter to the mastermindâs goals. If Nico loses the Class Trial, well, weâll say that the possibility of Nico dying isnât an issue, as they could just fake their own death or deny entering the execution. But still, why?
It could be that Nico was trying to remove themselves from the killing game on purpose, but I donât see why it would be necessary. No one was particularly suspicious of Nico being the mastermind, and if they were worried about their gender identity getting out, they could have simply made their secret something else. A mastermind could kill to avoid the killing game falling into a standstill, but tensions were really high at the time that Ace almost died! With a full day left to go before the motive secrets were revealed, such drastic action wasnât yet forced. I guess the best option would be that Nico was just really angered by what Ace said, and wanted to retaliate as part of their vicious mastermind nature. Is that worth taking yourself out of the killing game and risking the showâs termination, thoughâŠ?
There is also the possibility that Nico is the mastermind, but didnât try to kill Ace. In that case, suspicion of Nico would be such a huge in-universe coincidence that Iâm doubtful DRDTdev would have included it as a major plot point.
Speaking of âshowâs termination,â I also donât know why Nico would have any involvement in creating a TV show, both from a backstory/talent perspective and a personality one. Nico doesnât like interacting with people. Therefore, I donât know what would possess them to want to create and join a TV show for which the major draw is a big stressful discussion between a bunch of people.
I guess I had fewer reasons why I thought Nico would be the mastermind than I thought. I would love to hear more details about why you suspect Nico though, Anon! Iâm definitely willing to believe that they could be the mastermind.
#7: Eden Tobisa
Make no mistake, I still think that Eden is the Chapter 2 killer. However, in the case that she isnât⊠mastermind isnât a terrible choice for her.
The biggest draw of Eden being the mastermind would definitely be the shock value. The seemingly nicest character suddenly being revealed as the mastermind would create a huge hurdle for the surviving characters to overcome. Teruko especially, given that she probably would have grown at least a tad closer to Eden if they survived five chapters together. It would be a little mean to give Teruko a trustworthy friend just to rip it away from her again, but I could see the opportunity being used to highlight Terukoâs growth. When Xander and Min betrayed Teruko, she panicked and shut everyone out, but when Eden betrays Teruko at the very end, sheâs able to remain strong and rely on the other friends who she continues to trust. Or DRDT could have an unconventional feel-bad ending, I suppose.
If some kind of time loop is at play within DRDT, then Edenâs talent would obviously be thematically and perhaps practically relevant as well. I could see a lot of comparisons being made regarding a killing game being run âlike clockwork.â Her secret quote âyou canât go back, no matter how hard you tryâ is... actually kind of anti-time loop, but at least the concept of going back in time is somewhat relatedâŠ? Speaking of secret quotes, her Mai quote, âshe kept calling the number, even though no one picked it upâ is also really weird. That suspicious hidden evidence could point to her being the mastermind.
However, Edenâs personality is a pretty major issue when it comes to her being the mastermind. Shock value is great in the moment, but it can ring hollow in retrospect if people find that the twist doesnât make any sense. Masterminds arenât typically known for their kindness or optimism. So, if Eden is the mastermind, it seems like her whole âeven if this world is cruel, Iâll still make the choice to be kindâ speech is a complete lie. And, that would be a shame! I donât think that having an unexpected mastermind at the end of the game is worth the cost of completely demolishing a character that weâve come to know and love over the course of six chapters and several years. (Iâm not saying that complete demolition has to be the case if Eden is the mastermind, but I think itâs a reasonable worry that many people have.)
And, I know that all this talk about how wonderful Eden is might sound rich coming from someone who strongly believes that she just killed someone who wanted to be her best friend. But, thatâs kind of the point, isnât it? As someone who thinks that Eden is the killer, I know very well how a lot of people have a really hard time believing that Eden could do something as terrible as killing Arei. I can only imagine how hard it would be to accept that Eden was the one who put Arei, Min, Teruko, and everyone else in danger, and the one pulling the strings behind every execution.
Eden as the mastermind, to me, is more tempting in concept than it would be viable in execution. And also, I donât even think sheâs going to live to see the light of Chapter 3 day. However, thereâs also some definite emotional power behind the accusation that makes me see how shooting for this ambitious choice could be worth it in the long run.
#6: Whit Young
Alright, itâs finally time to talk about Whit. I know that heâs a really popular mastermind choice, but⊠I just donât see it, personally. Even though I put him at 6th place. (I do not enjoy putting him in 6th place.) Is that just because heâs my favorite and Iâm attached to my interpretation of the character? Perhaps. But, Iâd still like to explore some points that I find faulty.
Perhaps the biggest reason behind suspicion of Whit that Iâve seen is the way that he breaks the fourth wall. People connect his asking people to pause for the evidence list to MonoTV invoking similar mechanics, and lines such as âdo you really think sheâd be hanging out in the playgroundâ to him knowing more than heâs letting on. However, there are a couple of ways that this accusation can be depowered, in my opinion.
Firstly, Whit isnât the only person who says stuff like this. Veronika alludes to the killing game before it begins, Teruko also breaks the fourth wall to tell the viewer to pause (albeit only in her thoughts, not out loud), and Arei makes the same kind of âhangingâ wordplay in Edenâs flashback that Whit did. I wonât say that characters addressing the fourth wall canât be important at all, because I believe there are some moments where the other characters commentate on how weird it is that MonoTV is talking to no one. However, I also think that breaking the fourth wall may simply be part of DRDTdevâs humor, as exemplified by that âmake sure to like and subscribe so that Teruko has enough mental strength to carry onâ joke. Whit is a funny guy, so it just makes sense that if DRDTdevâs brain generates funny meta jokes, Whit would get some of them. Everything that Whit says reminds me more of Mia AceAttorney saying âhit tab to open the Court Recordâ than some sort of groundbreaking DDLC-Undertale direct communication with the viewer. However, I can see why others would think otherwise.
The second is that I think some of Whitâs comments (more so the âdead at 3â and âhanging in the playgroundâ than the pause) are just meant to showcase his intuition. And, yeah, it could be that DRDTdev has been leaving crumbs of Whitâs intuition behind so that in Chapter 6, he can use it to exploit everyoneâs insecurities and greatest despair. To me, though, Whitâs intuition has always reminded me of the myth of Cassandra.
For those who donât know, Cassandra is a figure in Greek mythology who was blessed/cursed to receive prophecies, but for no one to ever believe them. By my interpretation, Whit is a really smart and perceptive guy who has strikingly accurate gut feelings about how things will play out down the road, even when he doesnât realize it himself. However, the curse of his own coping mechanismâ choosing to act like an eternally cheerful goofballâ leads the majority of the other students, and perhaps some of the viewers, to never take his point of view seriously. He can only realize the accuracy behind what he said after the bad things have already happened, leading him to blame himself more and more for not being able to speak up and help when times were tough.
This kind of behavior would line up with two different themes weâve seen from Whit before. The first, that when he jokes around without thinking, he can accidentally say hurtful things that he later reprimands himself for. We saw that when Charles blew up at him at the end of their shared FTE. The second is Whitâs major theme of good things hiding a darker undercurrent. Being the Ultimate Matchmaker is great until youâve never had a successful relationship yourself. Having an awesome mom is great until the truth comes out that sheâs actually dead, and youâve been covering it up. Growing super close to someone is great until he dies. Having an amazing intuition and understanding of everyone is great until you can never actually use it to help those you care about. Joking around is great until it's all you can do. Pretending everything is fine is great until itâs not.
Like I said, very specific interpretation. I promise I was not citing classical literature to make my argument sound smarter than it actually is. I am aware that my interpretation of Whit is no less or more valid than everyone elseâs. However, itâs one that I hold very close to my heart, and thus, I personally have a hard time seeing around it.
However, Iâve also seen a lot of people argue some valid points for Whit, so I can at least acknowledge that he deserves to be in the upper echelon of choices. Thereâs a lot of weird stuff regarding him in Literature Girl Insane, and heâs certainly an option of someone who felt so much grief that they became totally empty inside as shown in that one hidden quote. I would be appropriately surprised and heartbroken if Whit revealed himself as the mastermind in Chapter 6, so he checks the box in that regard. There isnât anything from his backstory that opposes the notion that he set up the killing game, and, to quote what I said about our other Ultimate Matchmaker, ToshikoâŠ
While Ultimate Matchmaker might seem like a silly talent to give the mastermind, it could also be a ruse to distract us from the fact that [Whit] has a talent that allows [him] to read people well and make choices that will impact their lives dramatically.
I donât like it, but I can see the argument⊠kind of. To me, most mastermind Whit interpretations feel like mischaracterization, but as a theorist, I always try to keep in mind that Iâm the one who could be twisting the text to my whims as well. In this my-opinions-based list, though, heâs not getting any higher than 6th.
#5: Veronika Grebenshchikova
Ooh, what spooky art for a spooky mastermind. Letâs be real, though, Veronika is way too obvious of a mastermind candidate to actually be the mastermind. Unless⊠sheâs so obvious that she loops back around to not being obvious, and thus, is the perfect mastermind candidate?!
Veronika is in a really weird place. I obviously have no doubts that she would have any moral qualms about hosting a killing game, because sheâs told us herself that she doesnât. She knows what Monokuma is in immense detail, but claims to have no idea what a killing game is. Sheâs dressed really similarly to Junko, though. Is that just a coincidence? Are giant pigtails also a symbol of fear in the DRDTverse? I need ANSWERS, LADY!!!
The biggest problem I see with Veronika is the potential for obviousness. Similar to Arturo, if she actually made it to Chapter 6, I feel like it would be pretty obvious whatâs going on. An oddball like Veronika is not the typical survivor type (although she could break the mold). Because Terukoâs character arc is all about trusting people, it would make sense if the reveal of the mastermind was someone who challenged her trust to some degree. With Veronika being obviously unhinged the whole time, I donât think that Teruko would have any particular difficulties with kicking her to the curb.
However, Veronika clearly has the motive to start a killing game, and potentially to spread despair. DRDT has taken inspiration from Trigger Happy Havoc in the past, so it could make sense if DRDTâs mastermind was also inspired by THHâs. Having a so-obvious-itâs-not-obvious mastermind could also be another way to mess with theorists like me, as DRDTdev did with the comments section portion of Literature Girl Insane. âbro Veronika being the mastermind would be WAY too obviousâ sounds EXACTLY like âI just hope XXXXXX doesnât go crazy and kill in chapter 3. That would be way too predictableâ or âXXXXX will obviously die in ch5â. If part of the point of DRDT is to make know-it-all analysts rethink the rules they believe to be set in stone, I could see Veronika as a subversive choice.
Veronika definitely seems to be building up to something, but I donât know if being the mastermind is exactly it. I think that Veronika could make it pretty late into the game, but I still struggle to see her making it all the way to Chapter 6. I would absolutely love to see what DRDTdev does with her writing if that is the case, though.Â
#4: Mai Akasaki
(Well, now I feel bad that Iâve never made a colored portrait of Mai.)
As you may have noticed back at our first entry, Arei, I started the countdown off at seventeen, not sixteen. (If you didnât remember that, I donât blame youâ it was a WHILE ago.) Thatâs because I thought it was only fair to include DRDTâs best kept(?) secret, the lovely Unnamed Student herself, Mai Akasaki, as an option! Because, man, is she mysterious in some suspicious ways.
âBut, didnât MonoTV tell the students that the mastermind was one of them? Mai isnât one of the students in the killing game (unless prosopagnosia is REALLY going crazy), so she canât be the mastermind, right?â Well, yes and no. The scene where MonoTV confirms the existence of the mastermind is SUPER weird. Letâs take a look at it.
On one hand, MonoTV is still in the Movie Screening Room, where it was JUST talking to the student body, so it would only stand to reason that itâs a continuation of the scene we just saw. However, the setting also seems to be doing everything in its power to tell us that this is NOT the same scene we just saw. The lights have been turned off, even though they were on in the scene just before this. They return to being on in the first scene of Chapter 1, which the students treat as being directly after the scene during which the lights were on before. The widget denoting the time, chapter, and episode has completely disappeared, placing this at an even more unknown time than âTime Unknown.â The text indicating that the speaker is MonoTV has even disappeared! I mean, I assume that MonoTV is still the one saying it, considering that itâs on screen and the speech bubble is pointing right at it, but we donât even know that for sure!
Additionally, MonoTV refers to the viewers directly (âdear viewersâ) two speech bubbles after this one, which makes it seem more like MonoTV is talking to us the audience rather than the students in the room. But then, if the mastermind is âone of you,â and MonoTV is talking to us, wouldnât that mean the mastermind is someone in the audience? That could lead in to some really meta interpretations of the text (i.e. âDRDTdev is the mastermind of DRDT because heâs the one who created the killing gameâ) or it could indicate that Iâve gone fully off the rails.Â
A midpoint between those two ideas is that the mastermind is part of the in-universe audience watching the killing game, as in, a fictional character who is watching the real-to-them TV show that is Danganronpa: Despair Time. That could include Mai, a very notable character who is not one of the sixteen participants in the killing game.
Side note, Iâve seen some people fight back against the concept that Mai could be the mastermind with the idea that making the mysterious character the mastermind would be too obvious. While I sort of agree, I feel like weâre somewhat overestimating the extent to which Mai is obvious. Itâs not like no casual viewers would know who she is, because her image was shown pretty obviously in Chapter 1. However, the name âMai Akasakiâ is only accessible by finding the hidden quotes on the optional associated websiteâs character profiles. To learn anything about her beyond that, you have to have the thought to type the name into the website URL, and then solve another puzzle just to see the bare bones of whatâs there.
Iâm not trying to assert any sort of dominance or superiority over DRDT fans on YouTube, Twitter, TikTok, or anything else, but from what Iâve gathered, Tumblr is the place you want to go for deep analysis and theories on DRDT (possibly because of Tumblrâs longer word count). Therefore, anything about DRDT that may seem like common knowledge on Tumblr may only be common knowledge to the fans who specifically bothered to come to the deep lore and crack theories website to find deep lore and crack theories. Essentially, this:
Sort of similar to what Gravity Falls did with the reveal of Bill Cipher back in 2012 (at least I think, I wasnât actually in the Gravity Falls fandom at that time), I think it would be reasonable to plant clues about an overarching villain that people who want to analyze can analyze ahead of time, such that the villainâs arrival can come as a victory to the puzzle solvers and an exciting new development to the more casual viewers.
However, while I believe that Mai has an awesome setup that she could use to become the mastermind, whether she would actually fit the role is another question entirely. As I alluded to back in the first Mai paragraph, Iâm rolling with the widely held (among theorizers) belief that the Unnamed Student in Xander and Minâs bonus episodes is supposed to be Mai. In those episodes, Mai seems to be incredibly caring, peppy, and sweet. She knows a ton of little heartwarming details about Min and Xander, and I wouldnât be surprised if the same is shown to be true with Arei and whoever elseâs bonus episodes in the future. Those hidden quotes on Maiâs profile also give off the impression that everyone in the cast really loves Maiâ one could call them a âportrait of a person dearly loved,â perhaps.
While itâs possible that these scenes are supposed to highlight Maiâs social prowess and how much she can get people to fall in love with her, they⊠donât really seem to be giving off those vibes. We see her thoughts in those bonus videos, and she really does seem to be dedicated to helping Min and Xander out. Maiâs change from someone who wanted nothing more than to help out her friends to someone who was willing to throw all of them into the killing game is something that would have to be explained, and it could be difficult to communicate that shift within the confines of bonus material, if Maiâs content is mostly kept there. There is the concept that Mai could have put her friends into a killing game to protect them somehow, which could be a way to avoid Maiâs character seemingly doing a total 180, but that rationale would need a lot of explanation too.
Otherwise, thereâs also the problem that Mai is almost certainly dead. I wonât get super into it myself, because the amazing @1moreff-creator has already done a great job explaining why here (starts in the XI. God is Dead section). I donât think I need to elaborate on why Mai being dead potentially before the killing game even began would be detrimental to the idea of her being the mastermind.
To be honest, I donât know how much this idea actually makes sense. I think Iâm personally more inclined to believe that Mai could be the mastermind just because I really donât get mastermind vibes from pretty much anybody in the cast. If the mastermind simply wasnât one of the members of the main cast, that could solve that issue, rightâŠ? Mai is very likely involved in the inception of the killing game somehow, so extending that role to one of being the mastermind isnât the biggest stretch. However, her personality and living status do throw in some pretty big question marks, so I donât think she should go any higher.
#3: Teruko Tawaki
Teruko was definitely the first character who I believed could be the mastermind after I watched the series for the first time. However, over time, Iâve sort of fallen off of the idea that she would be. Is that because Iâm forgetting key details of the plot, or because Iâm drifting closer to the truthâŠ? Honestly, I have no idea.
Letâs start with the strongest âevidenceâ we have against Teruko, her motive secret: âHow could I even select which secret to make your motive? Just about everything youâve done in your life is worth killing for. The killing game is all your fault.â Although âthe killing game [being] all [Terukoâs] faultâ sounds pretty damning, thereâs the obvious counterargument to be made that this isnât even Terukoâs motive. In fact, the board currently shows it assigned to Xander. However, the majority of people (including myself) seem to believe that David was lying, and this secret is Terukoâs. So, letâs analyze under that assumption.
Teruko did admit to Veronika that she doesnât know what secret could be used as her motive because there were so many. Even if that motive secret isnât hers, that still means that Teruko has done a lot of shady stuff. Terukoâs decision to live on set forever could line up with the mastermind's goal of wanting to keep the cameras rolling as well. The very first scene of DRDT shows that someone who wants the killing game to end also wants Teruko dead, which implies that Teruko and the killing games are on the same side.
Teruko also has a prior history of concealing things about herself from us, the viewing audience. We knew basically nothing about her past or trust issues before Xander stabbed her, causing her sudden change in attitude to come as a blindside. Teruko apparently has a âriskyâ killing game-ending plan in mind for the end of the second Class Trial that sheâs told us absolutely nothing about. And, most notably, Teruko clearly knows things about Mai that sheâs decided not to share with viewers at home. (I do believe that Teruko genuinely canât remember Maiâs name, but she does remember that Mai is similar to Xander and wanted to help, which is more than anything we would have known from the main text on our own).
Point is, DRDT is written in a way where we donât hear a ton of Terukoâs thoughts. That would make it much easier for her to scheme something behind the scenes, as opposed to someone who we get a lot of emotional reactions or logical theorizing from. Itâs actually kind of similar to the difference between Kaede and Shuichiâs styles of narration, as pointed out by ShortOneGaming in their impeccable v3 playthrough! I recommend watching their entire letsplay if you're in the mood for v3, but I found one time where they talked about this concept here. Iâll transcribe it for anyone who doesnât want to open YouTube right now:
Gina: I do want to callâ as my final sort of noteâ whatâs interesting is that you called out immediately that Kaedeâs narration was weird. That, it was always, likeâ dictation? Allison: Yes! Gina: Itâs always, like, speaking directly to a personâ Allison: Yes! Yes, I did sayâ It never really felt like actual internal monologue. Like, she never was expressing her thoughts or anything to us. I mean, yes, she was, but then there were those weird moments where she was, like⊠yâknow, hiding it from the player, and⊠probably from herself, too, to some extent. Like, she was just like, âand then I had to go do this thing.â Um, and like, âwe wonât really address how Iâm feeling about this.â Gina: Yep. Allison: And at the same time, it hides it from theâ the player. And that was very clever. Really good. I mean, herâ yeah, her narration was always kind of weird. But, she did have moments where she had internal reflection.
Hopefully, you can see the comparison. By putting a greater emphasis on actions as opposed to what Teruko is feeling (âI kneeled down and touched his neckâ after finding Aceâs presumed-dead body; âEveryone else started filtering inâ when people walk into the Playground and find Areiâs corpse), it becomes much easier to have Teruko hide exactly what she knows or exactly how she feels about certain events. Itâs actually the opposite of the kind of narration that Damon had (âIâm trapped in a killing game⊠with people who despise me. How⊠how did this happen? I just wanted to help⊠I wanted to make sure we didnât trust each other too easily⊠and now Iâm being treated like the bad guyâ after the 0th Class Trial) that made me believe he wasnât the mastermind!
So, do I think that Teruko would be a mastermind who remembers, or a mastermind who forgot? Well, I could kind of see it either way. Personally, I think that Teruko being a mastermind whose memories are intact is the more interesting version, and I do believe itâs possible. I also donât understand why someone with as many trust issues as Teruko has would want to remove her own memories if it werenât necessary. Then again, Teruko being an amnesiac mastermind could make up for some of the⊠issues that arise with her as a mastermind candidate.
What? Sheâs in third place, not first. Despite how long Iâve already talked about Teruko, thereâs still more to say!
First, the problems if Teruko did retain her memories: why would she ask MonoTV about the mastermindâs identity when the two were alone? Why would she be creating a plan to end the killing game? Why would she pretend to not know who Mariabella Rosales was even though everyone else clearly knew?
And then, the problems that persist even if Teruko did lose her memories: where would Teruko have gotten the resources to plan a killing game of this caliber? Even if she had them, why would she use it on this? Assuming that secret is hers, why would she write that about herself in a plausibly public place (beyond the swapping, Arei looked over Whitâs shoulder)?
Oh yeah, back to that secret. Just because âthe killing game is all [Terukoâs] faultâ doesnât mean that sheâs the one who planned it. In fact, the wording sounds very accusatory and hostile for something that Teruko would have theoretically written to herself. From the first scene, we already know that there is a person or group of people somewhere who are out to get Teruko. It could make more sense if that entity is the mastermind, and wrote the secret to blame Teruko for whatever she did that got her on their bad side.
Thereâs probably more to be said, but hopefully you can see why I have so many mixed feelings about Teruko. I definitely think sheâs one of the more likely mastermind candidates out there, but I still donât know exactly how likely that is, yâknow?
#2: Rose Lacroix
Once upon a time, a wise and powerful theory alchemist known only by the epithet @1moreff-creator postulated that Rose could be the mastermind of Despair Time, and then never elaborated on the idea at all. For centuries (a couple of weeks) the townsfolk (me) were baffled by these dark and mysterious ramblings. However, as seasons passed by, as travelers came and went, as the tide advanced to kiss the land before slinking back to its home once moreâ the idea⊠started making more and more sense?
Rose is a really smart character who has already shown her proficiency in Class Trials. In the first, she utilized her ability to perfectly capture the scene and her knowledge of chromatography. Although her talents havenât been as useful so far in the second, sheâs still managed to keep up with the conversation despite never looking at the scene of the crime. Thus, I can see why, from a writing perspective, DRDTdev would choose to make his mastermind the Ultimate Art Forger.
Thereâs also the angle that Rose is a criminal, and therefore could be willing to do illegal or immoral things. However, she does seem to be pretty remorseful about it, and sheâs already been caught for her criminal behavior before. Unfortunately for her, her relationship with her saviors the Spurlings only makes her all the more suspicious. Even if Rose didnât want to be the mastermind of a killing game, if the Spurlings forced her to do it, she might have not had a choice. (Xander is very against the Spurlings⊠Xander is bloody hands guy â stop the killing game â stop the Spurlings?)
I also like the angle of âthe Spurlings forced her to do itâ because of what I talked about back in Maiâs sectionâ the concept of the mastermind not being among the students. In Roseâs case, you can get the best of both worlds. The entity behind the killing game, the Spurling Foundation, would be a group outside of the killing game for MonoTV to contact, but there would still be a student among the castâs ranks to suspect and accuse come Chapter 6.
Whatâs the argument against Rose? Well, I would ask why Rose would want to put herself in this kind of situation, but if it was the Spurlingsâ choice, then that explains that. You could say Rose has been too helpful to be a bad guy, but everything sheâs done so far has been to help the students win a Class Trial. That keeps the killing game running, which keeps the show on. The biggest problem Iâm thinking of at the moment is the notion that the Spurling Foundation would have chosen to make Roseâs secret about how her backstory led her into their clutches. However, the secret doesnât actually acknowledge the Spurlings by name, and it also frames Roseâs crimes in a way that makes her look like a good personâ the opposite of what someone would think of as a mastermind. The secret was also only intended for Roseâs eyes, so it could have functioned as more of a low-key threat to remind her why she needs to stay in line.
Shouldnât all of this talk of Rose lacking agency make her a bad mastermind candidate, though? If a villain doesnât even believe in their villainous motivations, the story could end on a really flat note, with the good guys steamrolling an evildoer who doesnât really care. How are we supposed to reach a satisfying conclusion if the mastermind hardly has anything to be held accountable for?
Those are normally things I would argue, but as many have pointed out, Teruko isnât a normal protagonist. Actually, I think that this kind of mastermind setup for Rose could be a great way to end Terukoâs arc about learning to trust other people. Rose is the mastermind, somebody who shouldnât be trustedâŠ! It would be so easy for Teruko to just crush this person who betrayed her into dustâ Rose isnât even putting up much of a fight. But in the end, Teruko will choose to be patient, and see that Rose never wanted to betray Teruko. Even if her actions wound up hurting Teruko and many others, she still deserves a second chance, or at least a second evaluation.
As you saw in the death predictions, I obviously believe that Rose has the potential to make a late game run, whether as a survivor or something else. Writing all of this out, I can see even more clearly why Rose just might be the DRDT mastermind. However, despite all that I wrote, the idea still feels kinda more like a fun AU than the actual truth to meâŠ? So, I still think thereâs one person whose chances I like slightly better.
#1: J Rosales
Whaddya know, Jâs personal ??? tier catapulted her into the lead. It is probably true that my uncertainty about where she might land is contributing to me deeming her the mastermindâ itâs a really weird space in the kill order, as someone who survives long enough to theoretically have a positive character arc while sometimes not being counted among the survivors at the end.
Part of why I put J this high is that I really like the theory of J being the mastermind along with her brother, Ryan. Sadly, I cannot find any of the original theories that postulated this idea to link to, so Iâll try my best to explain what I remember myself. Basically, some people found the scene in c1e4 where Rose doesnât remember who J is suspicious. They combined this scene with Jâs younger brother, Ryan, and Jâs talent, the Ultimate Effects Artist, to suggest that J could be using her FX talents to disguise Ryan as herself and have them occasionally trade places. From this Q&A, one of the few things we know about Ryan is that he enjoys crossdressing, which furthers the idea that he could enjoy pretending to be J. Ryan is also (to my memory) the only DRDT characterâs sibling whose name we have seen in the main text, which could indicate that heâs more important than Areiâs sisters, Leviâs brothers, or other potential siblings.
I think itâs a really fun idea that I would at the very least want to see come to fruition, regardless of how likely it is. If J was working with Ryan, you can once again repeat the argument that thereâs both a mastermind for MonoTV to talk to outside the game and one to be accused within the game. The biggest issue with it is that I donât know how Arturo wouldnât see the differences between the two, even if Rose may have. Maybe if J and Ryan havenât swapped since the Rosales secret got out, and wonât swap again until Arturo diesâŠ? I donât know, Iâm getting ahead of myself.
The thing is, other than just being a unique and interesting concept, Iâm not really sure what the point of having J and Ryan swap would be, in universe or out of it. (This is why I wish I couldâve found a link to the original theorist... :,( ) My best argument for in universe would be that there are some things that only J has the skill to do, her being the Ultimate Effects Artist while Ryan is not. However, they couldnât just have Ryan be the one in the killing game full-time, because heâs too young and therefore wouldnât have been part of the original Hopeâs Peak class. Thus, there are some points in time where J needs to be working behind the scenes (like on the executions or something), and during those intervals, Ryan subs in. Metatextually, I guess it could show how every person in the entertainment industry can be cutthroat, or that every child of a celebrity is bound to get messed up about it somehowâŠ?
Regardless, even if Ryan isnât involved at all, there are plenty of reasons to suspect J on her own. Ultimate Effects Artist is a highly suspicious talent when it comes to the deception of a killing game (just check out how many people think J already used it to kill Arei), and in connecting her to Hollywood. J may claim to specialize in theater as opposed to television, but 1) she could have been lying, or 2) that could be true, but sheâs making an exception this time. Even if she normally works in live theater, if you were a TV executive approached by the daughter of Mariabella Rosales who is also a Hopeâs Peak Ultimate student in her own right, would you really turn her awayâŠ?
Jâs custom weapon is also pretty suspicious. Even if it doesnât seem to be able to trigger traps like the one used on Levi (though that could be another lie), I could still see it being pretty helpful for subtly operating MonoTV, turning on a monitor, starting an execution, or stuff like that. Charles essentially confirms that the custom weapons were in the studentsâ rooms since they all woke up, which means that J could have had this remote on her the entire time.
Jâs relationships also seem potentially mastermind-y. Thus far, the two characters with which sheâs been associated most are Arei and Arturo. Those two (at least, prior to Areiâs change of heart) have been so clearly villainous and hateful that J would obviously look like a nice person in comparison. Why is this helpful? It means that J can get away with doing more objectionable things without raising any huge red flags. If J is the mastermind, we can look back on her demolition of Arturo in the Chapter 2 Trial as a brief early glimpse into how cruel she can really be. But, for the moment, although itâs definitely memorable, many people (including myself) can react to it with a, âyeah, but based on what Arturo was doing to her, itâs kinda justifiedâŠâ (Not saying it isnât somewhat justified either way, just that it could also be something more.)
J could also have a range of motivations related to her hatred for her mom. Maybe sheâs trying to turn people against the Rosales name to ruin Mariabellaâs reputation. Maybe this killing game is a plan to finally have a big artistic success all on her own (or with Ryan) to prove her mom wrong. Maybe she thinks that a world so enamored with fame and glamor deserves to rot in a pit of despair. I donât know which of these options would be the most likely, but I could see how any of them could be possible explanations for how J got to this point.
I think my biggest argument against J once again comes back to the âwhyâ. I think that J has a lot of potential to be a good mastermind, but I donât know if that carries over to being a good mastermind for Teruko. Unlike with Rose, I donât have a good sense of how J being the mastermind would tie into a satisfying ending to Terukoâs trust arc.
@venus-is-thinking and I sometimes like to run randomized killing games as a fun writing exercise (randomize the cast, motives, and mastermind; see where it takes you), and weâve generally found that the most compelling protagonist-mastermind duos either have the protagonist sharing the same worldview with the mastermind, or being the only person who believes the opposite.
If the protagonist starts with the same beliefs as the mastermind, then defeating the mastermind is a showcase of the protagonistâs development. Hajime and Izuru work as protagonist and mastermind because Izuru is the manifestation of Hajimeâs belief that only talented people are important and can make an impact on the world. By renouncing Izuru, Hajime proves that heâs learned that anyone has the chance to change their future if they put in the effort.Â
If the protagonist has the opposite opinions from the mastermind, then it proves how crucial the protagonist is to the narrative because they are the only one who could deliver the critical message. A great example of this is Shuichi and Tsumugi. When Tsumugi tries to set up the conflict of âhope good, despair badâ that will keep the killing games going, all of the other surviving students fall for it. Shuichi being the only character who has spent the entire game learning the importance of balancing two extremes makes his callout of Tsumugi incredibly satisfying, and justifies the protagonist swap by proving that Shuichi is the only hero who could have saved this day.
Thatâs why I think that J would be a great mastermind for a protagonist who has issues with family or stardom, but might not be the best choice for a story with Teruko at the helm. Those are only my observations, though, so Iâd understand if DRDTdev planned things differently.
And that is finally the end! Hereâs the final tierlist I wound up working off of, which I fiddled with a TON while writing:
(Itâs based off of Ocean Unknownâs tierlist!)
Since this has already gone on so long, Iâll try to keep the conclusion brief. Please take all of this with a grain of salt, as I wound up making a lot of claims about writing that donât necessarily have the strongest foundation. I didnât write anything that I think is blatantly false, obviously, but whether itâs good advice or not doesnât necessarily mean that DRDTdev considered it. We may have different priorities in telling a compelling story. And, weâre less than two chapters in! Even the end of the Chapter 2 trial could throw a positive or negative wrench in any of these profiles.
Thank you so much for reading through this whole thing, and if you got through it and still have anything you want me to elaborate on further (a specific character, a specific theory, a specific aspect of fangan writing, etc), I would be happy to do so. I, uh, really hope that this answered the question that Anon asked, haha. Until next time⊠stay wary. There could be masterminds lurking about...!

proof that lumax is NOT bones
ok look, i know weâre all freaking out a bit right now (see here for context), but i feel i have tangible proof that lumax will have a satisfying ending come s5.
1. she was listening to his game
i donât know if we fully acknowledge how meaningful this is. max doesnât go to lucasâ game because thereâs a big crowd and sheâs very depressed. BUT she knew the game meant a lot to him. even earlier in the episode she was the one who explained the tournament to the boys. she doesnât care for sports (except skateboarding obviously), but she cared for lucas enough to know what was going on. and she cared enough to listen to the game on the radio even after the fact.
2. her letters
tell me she didnât write some sentimental shit to him in that letter. we have yet to see what was in it, but my guess is that whateverâs in it, max will get a chance to say some of those things aloud. like if she wrote âi love youâ or something to that effect, itâll show growth for her character to say it aloud to lucas. which brings me toâŠ
3. the cemetery scene
the entire point of this scene was to show that lucas doesnât only want the good parts of max. he wants ALL of her. even the sides of herself she views as ugly. and even as max is struggling to just TELL lucas how she feels, lucas is letting her know itâs okay. he just wants her to talk to him. all this is the crux of what i believe will be one aspect of maxâs arc next season. learning to SAY how she feels. especially to lucas.
4. THIS moment
another reminder that LUCAS IS THE ONLY PERSON WHO MADE MAX SMILE OR LAUGH LAST SEASON. this is another aspect of the lumax arc that i think is important. lucas makes max FEEL things, which is why the whole thing terrifies her. one of maxâs reckonings in s5 will be with her own feelings. and if she ends up permanently blind or disabled, those feelings might explode out.
5. âi see you now. i see you.â
apart from the cruel irony weâll get if max ends up permanently blind, this again echoes the idea that lucas sees max for exactly who she is and loves her completely. even in her darkest moments.
6. rv scene
lucas is the impetus of maxâs HAPPIEST MEMORY. i mean writers donât do that shit on accident. her happiest memory is KISSING HIM. that wonât change overnight.
7. cute as shit notepads
they have mutually agreed to go on a date again. you think the duffers would leave us hanging on that? have they ever let us down before? mike told el in s1 they would go to the snowball, and they held onto that shit until the end of s2.
8. fuck vecna
hereâs my prediction for the âgoing leftâ that caleb mentions. while i donât think theyâll break up or not be together in the end, i do think that vecna will possess her and use it to physically attack lucas. like i get the feeling theyâre going to pull a mockingjay on us. this scene foreshadows that. sheâll be clawing at him and heâll just be holding her off looking devastated. cue waterworks
9. i donât even want to talk about this scene
why would they have max die in lucasâ arms if we WERENâT getting s5 lumax in some capacity? lucasâ trauma from that will have ripples in s5, leaving him vulnerable to vecnaâs attacks. because he now has that something haunting him.
10. and finallyâŠ
ok COME ON. the duffers even posted a bts picture with this in it. combine that with the other bts weâve gotten so far? i'm not worried.
max's arc in s5 will be about connection with her loved ones. namely, her finally being able to break through her own walls to tell them how she feels. and both her and lucas' arc in s4 will lead up to that eventual conclusion. which is why we're getting our damn endgame.

Sonic 4 movie. Theories and predictions
Hello everyone! I finally watched Sonic 3, and I can confidently say it was one of the best experiences Iâve ever had in a movie theater! It had been such a long time since I felt so much emotion and joy watching a film. The last time I experienced these feelings was with Michael Bayâs Transformers movies, especially the fourth and fifth installments. Just like back then, when I was super excited for the next movie, I now have the same anticipation for the fourth Sonic movie.
In the post-credits scene, we saw the first appearances of Metal Sonic and Amy, which already gives us a taste of the continuation of the Sonic live-action franchise. Thatâs why Iâd like to share my theory about what might happen in the next movie and which game from the Sonic saga it might adapt.
AND... Just as Sonic 1 was an adaptation of the first classic game, Sonic 2 represented the second game, and Sonic 3 was based on Sonic Adventure 2, I believe the fourth movie will also follow this adaptation formula.
My idea is that the fourth movie will be inspired by two games: Sonic CD, where Metal Sonic makes his first appearance, and Sonic Heroes, where Metal Sonic becomes the main antagonist. In Heroes, he evolves into Neo Metal Sonic and later into Metal Overlord, the final boss. I believe the concept of time travel, central to Sonic CD, could be key to the plot of the next movie.
Now, letâs dive into the possible plot of the fourth movie and how the story might unfold.
Probably, Metal Sonic came from the future and returned to the past with the goal of defeating Sonic, driven by frustration at never being able to defeat him definitively. In turn, future Amy, upon discovering Metal Sonicâs plan, decides to also travel to the past to protect him. This could explain the post-credits scene where we see Amy hooded.
This raises some important questions: How did Amy know where Sonic would be, and how did she know who he was? The most logical answer would be that, in the future, Sonic and Amy eventually meet, and she decides to go back in time to save him. Another key point of the potential plot would be the origin of Metal Sonic. After all, who created him, considering that Dr. Eggman died in the ARK explosion in the third movie? While Shadow survived because heâs practically immortal, Eggman is just a regular human, making it extremely unlikely that he escaped.
With that in mind, here are some possibilities regarding Metal Sonicâs creation:
Agent Stone as the Creator:
Stone, loyal to Dr. Eggman, could create Metal Sonic as a way to avenge his mentorâs death. This would continue Stoneâs arc, showing how he seeks to keep Eggmanâs legacy alive.
G.U.N. and Director Rockwell:
Another possibility is that Director Rockwell, who showed distrust toward Sonic and his team, decides to create Metal Sonic. After the events of the third movie, where the planet was nearly destroyed, she might use Metal Sonic as a weapon to eliminate Sonic, believing that he and his team are too uncontrolled.
Eggman as the Original Creator:
Thereâs also the possibility that Dr. Eggman created Metal Sonic a long time ago, perhaps after returning to Earth at the beginning of the second movie. However, due to the humiliation he suffered when defeated by Super Sonic, he might have abandoned the use of Metal Sonic and kept the project stored along with other copies. These copies could have been activated later, continuing the storyline.
Any of these options could fit well into the fourth movieâs plot, depending on how the writers choose to proceed with the narrative.
Even though the three movies so far have adapted elements from the game franchiseâtwo from the classics and one from the modern gamesâthey contain many original elements. For example, Sonicâs origin was adapted for the movie, and the story takes place on Earth, not on his home island or planet of origin. Additionally, the Master Emerald wasnât found on Angel Island but on Earth, and Shadow didnât live on the ARK in space but also on Earth. So, itâs likely that the fourth movie will also introduce original elements while incorporating important aspects inspired by Sonic CD and Sonic Heroes.
Now, hereâs my idea of how the fourth movieâs plot could unfold:
Just like in the second and third movies, Amy could appear after the movie starts, similar to how Tails was introduced in the second movie and Shadow in the third. The movie would likely begin with an introduction to Sonic and his team.
After the boys (Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles) decide to organize another friendly race, Sonic gets too far ahead and ends up in New York City. This becomes even more confusing due to the time difference since he, Knuckles, and Tails live on the other side of the United States with Tom and Maddie. Itâs at this point that Metal Sonic and Amy enter, as hinted at in the post-credits scenes.
After Sonic is attacked by Metal Sonic and saved by Amy, heâs full of questions. He wants to know who she is, how she knows his name, and how she knew where to find him. His questions are similar to those he asked Knuckles and Tails when he met them. Amy then explains that she came from the future to help him defeat Metal Sonic once and for all.
With no other choice, Sonic decides to take Amy home. There, he introduces her to the rest of the team, and they begin discussing whatâs happening. Amy explains that she came from the future to warn him about Metal Sonic and save him. She details Metal Sonicâs origin, explaining that heâs after Sonic to defeat him once and for all since he couldnât win in the future. Thatâs why she followed him to the past, both to warn Sonic and help him in his mission.
With this information, Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy decide to form a team to face Metal Sonic. However, upon realizing that their enemy is extremely powerful, Sonic concludes that the only way to defeat him is by using the Master Emerald again to transform into his Super form and destroy him once and for all.
However, thereâs a problem: at the end of the last movie, Sonic 3, Sonic lost his Super form while preventing a global catastrophe. During that moment, Shadow was also in his Super form but stayed behind after the final explosion. This caused the Chaos Emeralds to scatter across Earth due to the impact. Now, Team Sonic must gather the Emeralds again to have any chance against Metal Sonic.
Meanwhile, G.U.N. also steps in. After the events of the third movie, the organization begins questioning how Sonic and Shadow were able to prevent such a large-scale catastrophe. They eventually discover the existence of the Chaos Emeralds and, upon understanding their immense power, decide to locate them to keep them "safe." After all, the Master Emerald is seen as an extremely dangerous weapon, capable of turning a person into something close to a god.
This is where Rouge enters the story. As a G.U.N. spy, sheâs sent to locate the Chaos Emeralds before Team Sonic. This sets up a race between both sides: Team Sonic needs the Emeralds to save the world and defeat Metal Sonic, while G.U.N. wants to capture them to prevent them from falling into the wrong hands (even though, for Sonic, that includes themselves).
This intense competition between Sonic and his team against G.U.N. adds a layer of tension and urgency to the film, especially since both sides have legitimate motivations for wanting the Emeralds. However, G.U.N.âs belief that Team Sonic isnât trustworthy might spark conflicts and tense moments between them.
During this race to recover the Chaos Emeralds, Metal Sonic comes into play. He ends up encountering both sidesâTeam Sonic and G.U.N.âleading to a major battle among everyone, adding more tension to the plot. At this point, Shadow, who still holds a grudge against G.U.N. for what they did to Maria, temporarily joins Team Sonic. His main motivation is to prevent G.U.N. from keeping the Chaos Emeralds, as he believes the organization doesnât deserve that power.
Since Shadow has a direct connection to Chaos energy, similar to what we saw in Sonic Heroes, Metal Sonic manages to obtain one of Shadowâs quills. He uses the power contained in it to amplify his abilities and eventually evolves into Neo Metal Sonic. By combining Shadowâs power with the Chaos Emeralds, Metal Sonic reaches his final form: Metal Overlord, the final boss in Sonic Heroes.
However, before this happens, G.U.N. manages to capture the Chaos Emeralds, putting them temporarily ahead in the race. At this moment, Rouge, true to her nature as a jewel thief, betrays G.U.N. She steals the Emeralds, but her escape doesnât go as planned. She soon realizes the situation becomes critical when Metal Sonic, now more powerful, begins transforming into his primitive forms, leaving a trail of destruction in his wake.
Seeing no other choice and recognizing that Team Sonic is the only hope to defeat Metal Sonic, Rouge hands over the Chaos Emeralds to them. With the Emeralds in hand, Team Sonic activates the Master Emeraldâs power, allowing Sonic to once again transform into his Super form. With this power, Sonic faces Metal Overlord in an epic final battle.
Shadowâs role at this moment remains uncertain. He might join Sonic in his Super form, as he did at the end of Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Heroes, or he might choose not to intervene directly. Regardless, this battle serves as a major climax for the film, bringing both classic and original elements to the story.
Although the previous films have adapted elements from the games, theyâve also added their own unique ideas, and itâs likely the fourth film will follow the same trend. The movie universe, after all, is separate from the gamesâ universe, giving the writers creative freedom to develop new stories and explore different dynamics between the characters.
Regarding Shadowâs presence in the fourth film, I believe heâll play a key role, as his connection to Chaos energy is crucial for Metal Sonicâs transformation into Metal Overlord. Shadowâs involvement would also be an opportunity to further explore his relationship with his past and G.U.N., as well as strengthen the dynamics within the movie universe.
Introducing Rouge, hired by G.U.N. to steal the Chaos Emeralds, would be an excellent way to bring the character into the cinematic universe. This initial role, where she infiltrates as a spy and later betrays G.U.N., demonstrates her cunning and independence while establishing her motivations. By the end of the movie, Rouge could team up with Shadow and Agent Stone to form the famous Team Dark, opening doors for future storylines.
As for Omega, his introduction would be a bit more complicated. However, one possibility could be Agent Stone reactivating one of Dr. Eggmanâs old robots, as Omega was originally created by Eggman to serve as a guardian and companion. This idea would fit well with the theme of reclaiming Eggmanâs legacy in the movie, but his presence would need to be carefully balanced to avoid overwhelming the story.
Introducing too many characters in the fourth movie could be a challenge. While itâs exciting to expand the cast, itâs essential to keep the storyâs main focus: the showdown between Metal Sonic and Sonic. In the first three movies, new characters were introduced in a balanced way, always keeping Sonic at the center. This balance ensured that Sonicâs protagonism remained intact, even with the addition of significant figures like Tails, Knuckles, and Shadow.
Therefore, while Rouge and Shadowâs presence seems essential, adding more characters like Omega could be challenging without diverting attention from the main plot. Itâs important that the movie continues to highlight Sonic as the main hero, ensuring that new additions complement the story rather than overwhelm it.
The dynamic between Sonic and Amy in the fourth movie could indeed follow a friendship and camaraderie approach, similar to what we saw in the Super Mario Bros. animated movie. Just as they portrayed Princess Peach as a strong and independent warrior alongside Mario, Amy could be presented as a powerful and strategically important ally, without forcing a romantic relationship between her and Sonic.
Although Amy is traditionally Sonicâs romantic partner in the games and series, SEGA has already clarified that their relationship isnât canon. This decision reinforces the creative freedom to adapt the character in the cinematic universe while maintaining the individuality of both characters. Sonic, with his adventurous and carefree personality, would hardly fit into a romantic role in the movies, as it could shift focus from his journey as the protagonist.
In the movie, Amy could be presented as someone who shares the same goals as Sonic, fighting alongside him and his team against threats like Metal Sonic. The post-credits scene of the third movie already gave us a glimpse of her combat skills and confidence, highlighting her iconic hammer as her weapon. This suggests her presence in the fourth movie will be more as a warrior and strategic ally rather than a character dependent on Sonic or hopelessly in love with him.
This approach also creates a more modern and inclusive dynamic for the audience, showing that a female character can be equally strong and independent without being defined by a romantic relationship. A deep friendship and mutual respect between Sonic and Amy could strengthen the development of both characters while maintaining the adventurous and lighthearted tone that characterizes the franchise.
Finally, letâs talk about the possible post-credits scenes of the fourth movie, which always leave clues for the next chapter in the franchise. Since itâs been confirmed that the fourth movie wonât be the lastâthe idea is to create a quintology (five movies) and not a sextologyâitâs very likely that the post-credits scenes of the fourth movie will introduce a new character or hint at the plot of the next movie.
One of the strongest speculations among fans is the possible appearance of Silver the Hedgehog in the post-credits scenes. This would make perfect sense since Silver is a central character in the Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 game, whose storyline revolves around time travel. Just as Amy and Metal Sonic are essential to the plot of the fourth movie, introducing Silver in the post-credits scenes would be the perfect bridge to address the plot of Sonic 2006 in the fifth movie.
Silver could appear from the future, on a mission to alter past events to save the chaotic future he came from. His arrival would bring new dynamics to the story and expand the Sonic cinematic universe, exploring themes like fighting to change destiny and the challenges of time travel.
However, I prefer not to delve into theories for the fifth movie just yet, as the fourth movie hasnât even been released. I think itâs better to wait for the official release of the fourth movie to understand the clues theyâll leave behind and then develop more solid theories about what to expect in the fifth film.
And thatâs it, everyone! This is my theory for the fourth Sonic movie. I know some ideas might seem a bit out of the box, but as weâve seen in the first three movies, they donât exactly follow the stories from the games. There are many original additions and changes to fit the Sonic universe into the cinematic narrative, and I believe the same will happen in the next film.
If youâve read this far, thank you for reading my theory! Now Iâd like to know your opinion: what do you think might happen in the fourth movie? Share your ideas, and letâs keep this conversation going! :)

Ranking 2024 anime, Pt. 3: #30-21
hey, this post is also available on my ko-fi, so please check it out and consider tipping/donating as i do this for free and am currently between jobs. you can find part 1 of the list here and part 2 here. thanks!
We're chugging along. I'd say we're finally getting to the good stuff, and there is plenty of good at this point in the countdown, but I also just really like complaining.
Let's get it.
30. KonoSuba: Godâs Blessing on This Wonderful World!, season 3
I have a tendency to refer to the more brainless and/or trashy anime I watch as âjunk food.â You know the kind; the ones that donât really add anything to your life and donât stand up to the more fulfilling series, but still get the job done when you go into autopilot. Iâve found that, as a habitual (non-metaphorical) snacker, I tend to just reach for something when Iâm bored so I have something to do. And looking at it objectively, I donât tend to enjoy myself while doing it and I usually donât feel good afterwards.
I feel much the same way about watching KonoSuba.
Not that I think itâs ontologically evil or anything, but KonoSuba often has just as much going against it as it does working in its favor. For every joke that hits, and some of them absolutely do hit, thereâs another that makes me question why Iâm even watching it. Iâm not against dark or even occasionally offensive humor; I adore Itâs Always Sunny in Philadelphia, a show to which KonoSuba often draws comparisons. The issue is that, at its worst, KonoSuba defaults to either âthis person is a pervert,â âthis person is a pedophile,â or âthis man got sexually assaulted.â My issue isnât with the subject matter so much as the fact that they rarely rise above the level of base shock value and that they keep happening like that. It almost feels perfunctory, like the writers had quotas to meet.
Itâs not all bad, though. Even having only gotten into KonoSuba in early 2023, I still found myself lamenting its hiatus, and An Explosion on This Magical World somehow only made the heart grow fonder for the party members that werenât Megumin. I appreciate that Darkness plays a pivotal role in the third season, because Darkness is hilarious and terrific. This season had a couple of the best jokes and goofy facials in the series.Â
Overall, itâs a bit of a wash, but I canât be too upset. Itâs more KonoSuba, and itâs reached the point where thatâs practically a value-neutral statement.
29. Wistoria: Wand and Sword
I donât really have much new to say about Wistoria. Itâs not the best magic school anime I watched this year and certainly not the best fantasy, but it looks terrific and itâs a fun enough time if you turn your brain off.
And turning your brain off is a necessity here because Wistoriaâs story is as basic as it gets. Itâs more or less Mashle if it wasnât a comedy, and itâs such a transparent, dirt-simple power fantasy that it might as well be an isekai. Guyâs trying to keep a promise to his childhood friend, he sucks at the one thing everyone else does to the point of getting bullied left and right, but heâs super crazy strong in a his own special way. Actually, shit, I just described Kaiju No. 8.
Rule of cool wins out here, and this show does look phenomenal, but it might be better enjoyed via YouTube clips. Iâm curious to see where the story goes from here, but Iâm not completely sold yet.
28. Chained Soldier
Chained Soldier is horny isekai trash. Chained Soldier fucking rocks. We got big monsters, wild action sequences, unique and memorable character designs, casual femdom, solid comic relief, interesting (if predictable) twists, uncensored boobs, itâs got it all!Â
Itâs not the best-looking show in some parts, but thatâs forgivable. The production values were fine, all things considered, and the action sequences in particular were terrific throughout, but Iâm really glad this series is changing studios for the second season. Iâve read ahead in the manga (donât judge) and Passione is gonna do a bang-up job as the action and shameless fanservice both ramp up.
Itâs early in the story and a teensy bit shaky, but Chained Soldier is already a fun time. I have reason to believe itâll only get better as it goes. And not just because of the boobs.
27. Suicide Squad Isekai
You wanted an isekai starring the Suicide Squad, and by God did you get one. This is a perfectly serviceable series by Suicide Squad standards and a pretty middling isekai otherwise. Nothing about the world in which this series is set is all that interesting or groundbreaking, but youâre here for anime Harley Quinn (and a few other DC villains I guess), and this show delivers.
Fluid, expressive character animation (when the studio wants it), a terrific Japanese voice cast, and entertaining hijinks among Batmanâs infamous roguesâ gallery combine for a plenty fun time that ultimately doesnât have much staying power. If you liked the James Gunn movie, youâll have a decent time here. No more, no less.
Between Uzumakiâs disastrous production, Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrimâs apparent mediocrity, and last yearâs unwanted, execrable FLCL Grunge, Iâm just glad that at least one recent anime production with Jason DeMarcoâs fingerprints on it came out unscathed.
26. âTis Time for âTorture,â Princess
I ended up watching so many discrete series during the winter season that itâs probably not a coincidence that my bottom four series on this ranking (and six of the bottom ten) all aired during that season. When you filter feed, youâre gonna take in a lot of garbage. Sometimes you need some stuff thatâs âjust fineâ to clean the palate.
âTis Time for âTorture,â Princess is probably a bit better than even âjust fine,â but itâs not gonna be a ready recommendation. The premise is pretty one-note on paper: Warrior princess got captured by demons, they try to coax intel out of her via temptation, she folds, the intel is worthless, and the cycle begins anew. But if a run of over 250 manga chapters and climbing is any indication, the series manages to keep it fresh. Time for âTortureâ works because it isnât beholden to its premise and instead decides to play hopscotch with its own framework. Gradually but noticeably, the unnamed princess and her inquisitors and âtorturersâ become friends, they all enjoy the spoils of her snitching together, and they really just keep it up because thatâs how this stuff is supposed to go.Â
Nine months later, I still donât know why I liked this show so much. Itâs just the right amount of silly to me, and itâs cute as hell where it counts. Not the best thing I watched this year but far from the worst. If you want something dumb and weirdly wholesome thatâll make you chuckle here and there, itâs a good pick.
25. Jellyfish Canât Swim in the Night
This is one Iâm still agonizing over a bit. Jellyfish Canât Swim in the Night is a terrific show on so many levels, but I still felt let down by the end of its run. It wasnât even in the same ballpark of disappointment as Uzumaki or Metallic Rouge, thankfully. Like Uzumaki, it couldnât live up to the promise of its all-timer debut episode, but on the flip side, Jellyfish largely maintained its high production value. Like Metallic Rouge, it felt like the narrative largely spun its wheels until the writers realized they only had two episodes left, but Jellyfish didnât leave me feeling like Iâd just wasted four hours of my life.
This series already had massive shoes to fill if it was going to be the best showbiz anime produced by Doga Kobo airing this year (âIâd have two nickelsâ and so on and so forth), but Jellyfish Canât Swim in the Night unfortunately ended up getting outclassed on several fronts by shows that just did almost every element better. It looks terrific, it has a memorable cast, the musicâs great, and itâs a welcome entry in the âGirls Doing Thingsâ anime canon, but it was outclassed in its own broadcast season by Train to the End of the World, Girls Band Cry, and Yuru Camp. The real shame is that it seemed to have designs on being a tremendous LGBT show if it played its cards right, and instead opted to throw those cards in the air and walk away by the end.
Iâd still recommend this show if you temper your expectations of any real narrative punch. There were some tremendous original series that aired this year, but Jellyfish Canât Swim in the Night just didnât reach those higher levels. Thereâs a whole bunch of good in there, but they couldnât quite piece it all together.
24. Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation, season 2, part 2
Iâm gonna be real here: Iâm sick of writing about this show. Itâs exceptionally well-made and, on balance, easily one of the best anime of the decade so far, but the subject matter can touch such controversial and uncomfortable territory at parts that I canât recommend it to anyone.Â
The back half of Mushoku Tenseiâs second season actually did a lot of work towards making up for a lot of the less-tolerable moments in the preceding Ÿ of the show, even delivering a couple of the spring seasonâs best episodes, and then it gets weird again near the end. Not nearly as bad as it gets in the first season, nor in the worst moments of this seasonâs first half from 2023, but still off-putting, even for people who stuck with it for this long. I expect this to continue.
Mushoku Tensei is a great show. Donât watch Mushoku Tensei.
23. Undead Unluck, second cour
David Productionâs adaptation of one of Weekly Shonen Jumpâs most inventive and ambitious action series continued into the start of 2024 as the story just continued ramping up and getting wilder.
Undead Unluck had an interesting, if occasionally uncomfortable start, with a fascinating power system and tons of secrets left to be revealed, and as it continued you could start to see the camera slowly pulling back. Midway through its second cour, shit completely hits the fan and any expectations you may have had fly out the window. Undead Unluckâs debut season was an amusing curiosity for most of its run, but the status quo is upended so effectively midway through the second cour that I was completely hooked. There were some infuriating pacing issues at those exact moments that were enough for me to dock it several spots on this list, but itâs still absolutely worth watching.
I decided to read the Undead Unluck manga a couple months ago and for as wildly as I thought the anime ramped up its scope by the end of this run, it turns out that the series as a whole goes to even crazier lengths than that. Iâm completely sold now and cannot wait for more.
22. Kaiju No. 8
Counter to the series I just talked about, Kaiju No. 8 is one of Shueishaâs leastââââ innovative battle shonen series. And thatâs okay! Nothing wrong with wanting to see people fight giant monsters and one who can turn into a giant monster himself, and maybe you donât want to have to deal with Attack on Titanâs incoherent politics to get there.
There is fundamentally nothing special about Kaiju No. 8, but I do appreciate that the protagonist is an out-of-shape thirtysomething desperately clinging to his hopes and dreams. No particular reason. Thereâs some interesting worldbuilding early in the story, and although it does lend itself to protag Kafkaâs strengths in battle (non-âturning into a monsterâ category), it all falls to the wayside when itâs time for monsters, guns, and explosions. And Iâm fine with that stuff, but I was hoping for a bit more of a hook.
All in all, this is a very well-made show, if a little muddy-looking at times. I wouldnât have chosen YUNGBLUD and OneRepublic for the opening and closing themes, but it didnât hamper my enjoyment of the show. I just like complaining about that stuff. Looks good, sounds good most of the time, and endearingly dumb. Canât go wrong with that.
21. Mashle: Magic and Muscles, season 2
I ranked this showâs first season pretty low on my 2023 list, but I was willing to stick it out for another season, and Iâm glad I did. Mashle really finds its footing during the Divine Visionary exam arc and irons out a lot of the issues Iâd had with the first season, primarily how little the comedy initially landed for me.
A series that initially had my eyes either rolling or glazing over quickly recovered my attention early in the second season. Creepy Nuts OPs are a cheat code, I swear. Even putting the killer music aside, Mashle looks a lot better as well and has a much more engaging story in its second season. You can really feel it gaining its footing and finding a bit of swagger as the season goes on. The fight sequences are much more engaging this time out, and sometimes you get all the satisfaction you need out of seeing an emotionless weirdo punch the shit out of a mean nerd. A bunch of the jokes even land this time around!
Iâm glad I stuck this out. Mashle is, at the end of the day, a hilariously blatant Harry Potter send-up, and frankly has no good reason to hit like it does, but Iâm finally sold. At the rate itâs been going, Mashle seems to be set to adapt the entire manga, and Iâm looking forward to seeing all of it.

Alright, I thought long and hard about what we might see in Arcane Season 2, what the Machine Herald is going to look like, who else we might see, and so on.
Also, this post does not contain any leaks, I have seen one picture, which doesn't even make sense (lucky me). If you spoil anything under this post, you are going to be blocked. I will talk about bout the trailers, though.
So, let me get my thoughts in some order:
- if Viktor was the hooded person in the trailer or wears a mask, then it's probably more because of his side in this war: he's not a Piltovan, but also not really a Zaunite anymore. We don't know when he moved from the Undercity to Piltover, but from his concept art, it was most likely during his early teens.
He's slightly younger than in S1 Arc1, but already wearing the Academy's uniform (though it seems a bit too big for him, and his pants are more rigged).
So: Viktor is going to be a Pariah and he is going to need to hide his identity, which makes a Collab with Jinx unlikely since she's on the run from everyone. Singed might be there in the direct aftermath after he got blown up, but they're probably going to fall out again since lore-wise Singed is going to team up with Noxus.
- In League of Legends Heimerdinger is a mage (shooketh, I know), and there's already a scene in S1 alluding to this: when Viktor and Heimerdinger are in Heimerdinger's office, Viktor goes through Jayce's notes and is intrigued. He asks Heimerdinger, whether he could do it (magic) and Heimerdinger hesitates a tell-tale second before he declines. Now, Heimerdinger might be a mage, but he relies mostly on his inventions. But wouldn't a fight between Viktor and Heimerdinger be cool? First, they throw ideologies at each other, then they fight. I think, I'd love this even more than Viktor vs. Jayce. Kinda like Obi-Wan vs. Anakin.
- I think, that Caitlyn is going to shoot Vi. Everyone I read so far thinks that it's the other way around, but that would be too predictable in my opinion. But maybe it is that way.
- Just stating that everyone is going to be contrary than they were in S1 and going from there falls a bit short. I think, that there's more to this quote.
- Divorce Era, because Jayce does, in fact, not understand. I am going to cry.
- The Hexcore will save Viktor's life in the aftermath of the explosion, and there are three ways I can see that happening:
(1) Viktor does it himself, maybe with the help from Singed.
(2) Jayce does it, thus breaking his promise to destroy it. I am going to cry
(3) The Hexcore, which is now connected to Viktor will sense his doom and burst to him. That might also be the shine, that Heimerdinger saw in the trailer.
- That brings me to another point, to the connection towards the Void: I don't think there's much to it and that the Hexcrystals are not shards of the brakken. However, I think the Hexcore is sentient due to Sky. Think about it: it changed its form after it disintegrated (or absorbed) Sky. Then it hurt Viktor (honestly, same. You think, you can walk away after accidentally dusting me and threatening to destroy my new essence? I'd be pissed). It might be interesting, if the Hexcore/Sky talks to Viktor in his head, furthering his spiral into madness. I'm here for it.
- Ekko will learn how to manipulate time and he will use it to try and save somebody. Be it somebody from the Firelights, their hideout or Jinx. Maybe it will go in the same direction like in the Convergence-Comic (which is, I repeat, outside of any lore), maybe not.
- Well then, what Viktor might look like: my favourite head-canon would be just as described in The Pulse of the Machine by bringthekaos on AO3. Mechanical eyes? Voice modulator can be shut off? Emotional suppressor has a switch? Rawrs in cyber-engineering. As it stands, I imagine it more to be like Battle Angel Alita (the manga, NOT the film!) or like a Borg from Star Trek. Definitely NOT like a Cyberman from Doctor Who.
- Who else do I want to see in S2:
Swain, just give me the Noxian General and heal my Daddy issues.
Renata, just give me the Chem-Baronness and heal my Mommy issues.
Jhin, Arcane should take place around the same time when Jhin was in Zaun. But that is a far shot (pun intended)
Camille, she exploits Hextech to become a weapon and I think she is kind of contrary to Viktor, who only ever wanted to help (others, himself, though with sometimes dubious means
I don't see that Orianna is Singed's daughter. That would fuck her beautiful lore. Don't do that to me.
Stuff, I'd also like to see:
- Viktor's apartment in Piltover
- Viktor's parents (flashback)
- Jayce's father (flashback)
- Jayce and Viktor fighting but unable to do so properly
- Mel and Sevika together
Thanks for coming to my Arcane-Talk.

Their expiration dates have already been announced
The C Person: "September 2023"
C will stay in Chicago till September 2023 or shortly after when she will be relocated once she completes her residency in Chicago after studying in NYC, where she might come back after her "official" breakup/closure with Carmy. Relocation is super common for Resident doctors once they finish their residency.
Because the C person was only supposed to be in Carmy's life for 6 months.
They run into each other at the store in March 2023 (02X02) and by the end of S3 (August 7th, 2023) only 5 months or less have passed:
So my prediction is that that last month to complete the 6 month run she was supposed to have in the plot, will be shown to us in S4. Not sure if this will include a short-lived reconciliation with Carmy or not even that (I hope not even that TBH), but she will complete that 6-month run and then she will be gone. I have been mentioning that her role was about to become useless soon since Carmy has already had his breakthrough in several previous posts now:
The catalysts
Back where he belongs
The C file & her reverse psychology
But I came to this conclusion now after reading a comment by brilliant chef @ago0112 that pointed out that her exit from the show might have something to do with her residency, which makes total sense. Then I remembered that her deadline had already been announced from the very get-go: September 2023.
And that reminded me of these other 2 characters having similar expiration dates hidden in plain sight for us, as well:
The Eye Candy: "A few months Less than a year"
"A few months" only. Vague and ambiguous as their whole relationship is gonna be because he knows he's not here to stay.
The Joker: "Quickly".
He "wants to move quickly". How charming! That means that his arc is the shortest of the 3. He will be gone before he can get started. Not even months like in C's or Luca's case. We're talking days or weeks here. Fuck you, Shapiro!
Syd will shut him down "quickly" (as soon as S4 starts) and then she will sign The Bear's agreement and we'll go from there.
Bonus track: Comparative analysis of the agreements Syd has been offered in S3
Shapiro's:
Carmy's:
So, the only difference is the starting point's offer which is 80K annually in Shapiro's case, whereas Carmy's is HIS HEART, A STAR, HIS FAMILY, HIS FAMILY BUSINESS, FAMILY STYLE, 2 TOPS, BOOTHS, HIS BABY BLUES, HIS BICEPS, ETC 70K, but Carmy's offer may be even more solid/better financially speaking and emotionally because we don't know the % of the bonuses he offers her, and we know that in Shapiro's case it's just the one bonus upon review but Carmy offers her 2 a year, which she will never not collect, who are we kidding? So, actually, Carmy's numbers might be better than Shapiro's after all. But even if they aren't, this begs the questions: Is Carmy only worth 10K for Syd??? Would she choose Shapiro over Carmy just because this Jocker offers her +10K a year? Is that all Carmy's worth for her? If she doesn't choose based on the $$$ then but she considers Shapiro's offer out of spite for Carmy or to get out of The Bear in a desperate attempt to start clean elsewhere, is Shapiro the best option anyway? Or is she just exchancing one problem for another? Does she know this guy? And more importantly, does he know her? I answered SOME of those questions here already.

Interviewing a beginner Finnish learner
A bit of a different post for today! I have been working with a friend who has started self-learning Finnish. Maybe you can gain some inpiration or tips from this interview we conducted! I have added extra commentary bits to some parts, marked with "C".
PREFACE
Interviewer: Me
Interviewee: @nuniante
Been learning Finnish for: half a month
Previous knowledge of the language: none
1. How long have you studied finnish actively?
A) ive been studying for just about half a month
2. What is your study routine like? do you study daily?
A) i try to write notes everyday about grammar concepts i think will help me advance at my current level (so far really basic stuff). i try but dont study daily. i also use duolingo to learn basic expressions/vocab and try to immerse myself in finnish through making some of the apps on my phone in finnish.
C) He tends to write at least one sentence in Finnish a day in our groupchat to the best of his abilities and will ask if he doesn't know a word. I feel like that's a very good way to learn when you are learning a specific dialect like he is.
3. What kinds of notes do you take? what do you write down? do you always write things down or just memorize things without writing?
A) my notes are basic. i write in the exceptions but i dont really go into detail sometimes. i might skip over something mentioned in the lesson or material im using if i think that a concept they bring up is inferrable. for vocab i try to memorize words i learn because i know so few that theres not much point to writing anything down. i think when ill reach a more advanced level ill start to write down more
C) I think that this approach is great, finding things you know you'll use and learning those first is useful!
4. What was your initial plan when studying? what things did you study in what order?
A) my initial plan for studying was trying to learn the basics and formal language to help me in learning colloquial speech, which i planned to learn from a friend (im talking about you juho). so far ive studied the basic cases + declensions, basic verbs conjugations, demonstratives and conjunctions and im rn learning about the numbers and the plural forms of nouns. i plan to take a break from grammar and learn vocab next.
C) Remember that all this is just half a month in! I think learning grammar before vocab is very good! You'll start picking up core words while doing that and of you perfect those grammar points early on, you will find speaking and writing easier fast.
5. What is your goal?
A) i dont really have a goal, but i think that if i could hold up a real conversation in finnish id feel successful.
6. What has been the most difficult + easiest?
A) i think the hardest thing so far has been consonant gradation or numbers. gradation can feel irrational, what with weird sound changes (eg. k > v) and also how you cant really predict what grade a noun/verb should be in depending off its form. easiest might be vowel harmony. you can decide harmony just by feeling what sounds better.
C) For once, a learner has not only learned vowel harmony but has no mistakes using it and will not forget that it's there. If you are more than half a year in learning and you still cannot remember to apply vowel harmony accordingly, you need to make it your priority ASAP.
7. How would you rate your current finnish level (speaking, writing, reading)
A) id say theyre all low. reading is probably my highest because i dont really consume finnish any other way. juho said my finnish accent is ok so i think that makes speech second. i havent listened to finnish yet so i cant even tell.
C) This person writes and speaks better Finnish than some people who have been learning the language for like three years! He is very careful with congruence which many learners don't consider very much. This means that he is eliminating most of the beginner mistakes very early on
8. Additional comments.
A) i like saying hyvÀÀ yötÀ
C) I like that our groupchat has started using Finnish and picking up words like "joo" and "sama asia" since we speak the language now. I consider it very admirable that this person has not only started writing Finnish early on, but he is learning kirjakieli, puhekieli AND a dialect all the same time!
Feel free to use this as motivation or inspiration! I recommend finding a learning style that fits you, so remember that what worked for this person might not work for you! I could make this a series honestly, are any of you interested in participating?

What has been happening in the world of motorsports lately?
this is very long overdue (at least 2 months worth of news), because i simply didn't have time to put it together. i tried to split it into categories that make sense, so you can only focus on what you are interested in. all mistakes are my own and there has been so much happening i probably forgot something as well :))
Women in Motorsport and F1 Academy
Alisha Palmowski was the F1 Academy wildcard entry for Qatar GP (and did amazing)
for the last race weekend in Abu Dhabi, it is Logan Hannah in a special F1 Academy livery
A bizarre situation happened in F1 Academy: the second race was cancelled in Qatar because of track reparations after a Porsche Cup crash into the barriers, then in Abu Dhabi, they added a third race but instead of taking the positions for it from the last quali in Qatar, they took a third time in Adu Dhabiâs quali and awarded two more points for it â therefore they stripped Abbi off her title that weekend and she had to earn it again which she did of course, so technically she became a champion of the same series twice within the same season
Michele Mouton got Lifetime Achievement Award at FIA gala
as a champion, Abbi gets full funded 2025 GB3 championship seat
Luna Fluxa became karting champion in Senior category of the Champions of the Future Academy Programme
there is also 400% increase of female karters in BIKC finals this years with the help of Discover Your Drive F1A programme
again, this is very late but here is a list of all drivers that took part in the Women's test in FE in Madrid: Marti and Chambers for Andretti, Buhler for Mahindra, Chadwick and Wadoux for Jaguar, Edgar and Visser for DS Penske, de Silvestro for Kiro Race, Koyama for Lola Yamaha, GabÄa JĂlkovĂĄ <3 and Garcia for Porsche, Pulling and Flörsch for Nissan, Bustamante and Lloyd for McLaren, Calderon and Schreiner for Maserati and Palmowski and Powell for Envision
Hitech is also joining F1 Academy as 6th team from 2025 onwards
Michelle Gatting officially became Porsche factory driver as a part of Iron Dames/Porsche collab
oh and Iron Dames have a new face joining: Celia Martin
Karen Gaillard won the national junior shootout as the first woman ever and became a part of Porsche Junior Programme
Doriane Pin appeared as a guest on Jimmy Kimmel (idk how to explain in F1 terms how huge this is)
All confirmed 2025 F1 Academy drivers so far:
Lia Block for Williams
Doriane Pin with Prema and Mercedes (and she will also reace in Freca as part of Iron Dames)
Chloe Chambers for Red Bull Ford
Alisha Palmowski for Red Bull Racing
Nina Gademan for Alpine
Rafaela Ferreira for Racing Bulls
Ella Lloyd for McLaren
Alba Hurup Larsen for Tommy Hilfiger
Courtney Cobe for Haas
Emma Felbermayr for Sauber
Rules, FIA and its president
After Red Bullâs protest, FIA banned protective skid blocks on the plank of the car which affected 7 out of 10 teams
The controversial McLaren rear wing with âmini DRSâ is now officially illegal and new tests will be added from next season onwards to prevent other teams using it (because it wasnât open when the car was still, only when moving and particularly at straights)
Mohammed Ben Sulayem wants to change up the rules/governing in FIA which comes down to him having more direct power and preventing him from getting backlash from it (update since the last time I wrote this down: he passed it through the voting and FIA moves even more towards autocracy)
Liberty Media might be in trouble for the MotoGP take over (let's wait for European Union to give more details)
FIA showed the new 2026 car concept after some clarifications
Sulayem said if drivers want paid full time professional stewards, they should pay for them (as their predicted operating result is 2,2m which is a big jump after -24m in 2021... it is a non-profit organization btw)
Pirelli is (as per usual) from the post season tyre testing when they found out the C6 tyres are essentially useless because they do not even hold on for a full lap
F1 st up a diversity and inclusion charter to help marginalized group into F1
Juniors
F2 and F3 will race in Madrid from 2026 onwards
Kimi and Ollie were meant to take part in Super Formula Suzuka test but Kimi had to pull out last minute due to illness (which forced him to skip the last race as well), from other names you might know Correa or Frederick too
Carrie Schreiner, Zane Maloney and Theo Pourchaire leave Sauber junior academy (Carrie will be their ambassador for 2025, Theo is development driver for Peugeot in WEC and Zane is in FE)
Williams signed karter Will Green for their junior academy
F2 confirmed line up so far:
HITECH: Luke Browning, Dino Beganovic
INVICTA: Roman StanÄk (round of applause for my boy please) and Leo Fornaroli
AIX: Joshua Durksen, Cian Shields
CAMPOS: Arvid Lindblad, Pepe MartĂ
PREMA: Seb Montoya, Gabriele Mini
TRIDENT: Sam Meguetounif, Max Esterson
RODIN: Christian Mansell
MP MOTORSPORT: Richard Verschoor, Oli Goethe
ART GP: Ritomo Miyata
DAMS: Jak Crawford, Kish Maini
F3 confirmed line up so far:
MP MOTOSPORT: Alessandro Giusti, Tim Tramnitz, Bruno del Pino
HITECH: Joshua Dufek, Martinus Stenshorne, Gerrard Xie
PREMA: Ugo Ugochukwu, Brando Badoer, Noel Leon
RODIN: Callum Voisin, Roman Bilinski, Louis Sharp
DAMS: Matias Zagazetta, Nicola Lacorte
TRIDENT: Rafa Camara, Noah Stromsted, Charlie Wurz
CAMPOS: Nikola Tsolov (rip), Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak, Mari Boya
ART: James Wharton, Laurens Van Hoepen, Tukka Taponen
VAR: Theophile Nael
Other racing series
Mick leaves the role of Merc reserve driver at the end of this year, but he got confirmed for Alpineâs WEC line up for 2025
Mitch Evans had technical issues in qualifying of the first race of the new season, so he was dead last on the starting grid and then he used up a bit of good luck and climbed up to P1 to win the race from the last place
Jamie Chadwick and Logan Sargeant will be driving LMP2 car number 18 in the 2025 European Le Mans Series with IDEC Sport
There is a rumour Toyota wants Ricciardo in Supercars or Nascar for next year
super old news i forgot to share: Ugo Ugochukwu won Macau GP (even with the 1000 red flags)
Jorge Martin won the Moto GP championship for the first time ever
Alpine will sponsor Pramac Yamaha in MotoGP from 2025 onwards
Andre Lotterer will continue with hypercar for Genesis
and Robert Kubica will continue with AF Corse
Iron Lynx switched from Lamborgini to Merc in LMGT3 WEC for 2025 onwards
Future of F1
Monza and Monaco both got extended till 2031 with Monaco moving places to let Canada come after Miami, also with some rumours about the hosting fee being significantly higher for Monaco after years of paying the least of all venues, Chinese GP got extended until 2030 and Zandvoort got one year extension till 2026 which will be the last edition of the GP for some time and as a âcelebrationâ it will be a sprint weekend
General Motorsâ application to join F1 from 2026 onwards came through and Cadillac/GM confirmed Mario Andretti as CEO? Whatever. And they also appointed Guanyuâs manager Graeme Lowdon as team principal
Cadillac will be using Ferrari engine for multiple years after they enter in 2026, they want to use their own engines by 2030 though
also Andretti Racing Limited changed its name to Cadillac Formula Racing Limited (objectively hilarious)
oh and Rob White will joing Andretti Global as chief of operations
With the FIA gala 2024 taking place there, Rwanda officially announced their bid to host an F1 race
Este will have the first female race engineer (or so everyone claims and i was too tired to check at this point but wasn't Ruth a race engineer at some point) in Haas next year with Laura Muller
Qiddiya circuit should host Saudi Arabian GP from 2027 onwards
James Vowles admitted that the crashes this year will probably negatively influence them in 2025 as well
Argentina wants to get a GP in their country but so far there is a lot of work and a lot of talks so it wouldn't be anytime near
Czech Republic would also like to host F1 gp after motogp is returning here, MasarykĆŻv circuit in Brno is in talks (but we are talking 5 years plan at least), there would be a lot of work done again BUT the owner (rights holder? idk the position) is good friends with Mohammed Ben Sulayem so there is that
this is also old but idk if i mentioned it in previous round ups: from 2025 the minimum driver weight is increased to 82 kgs to try to avoid drivers going throught extreme dieting as there is more talks about how big of a toll it takes on them
Andretti said that F1 is now open to 12th team as well
Teams and drivers
Jack lost the fight for race number 12 with Kimi for next year and will be racing under number 7 (but he raced under 61 during the last weekend)
Kimi also isnât doing too well tho, he had to miss out both on the sprint race and the feature race this weekend as he has been diagnosed with food poisoning and the doctor advised him against racing)
Gabriel Bortoleto will be running under number 5 starting next year
Charles won the overtake of the month of November (and you can vote for his overtake in Abu Dhabi in the overtake of the month poll, which gives you opportunity to win 2025 Miami GP tickets)
Haas signed a new sponsorship deal with Chicago uni (wow)
Santander is leaving with Carlos meaning they signed a multiyear sponsorship deal with Williams from 2025 onwards
Yuki admitted he spent about 3 hours in interrogation room when he arrived to the usa (just days after fans got mad at Charles saying, âmaybe try in Spanishâ and calling it racist â you have to see the difference at this point and realize there are poc on the grid and Carlos is not one of them but alas)
George and Charles both confirmed none of the drivers were informed about the race directorâs change before they saw it in the media
Checo apologized (or like. Tried to) for his fatherâs homophobic language towards Ralph Schumacher
Lewis will test F1-75 for the first time on 22nd January in Fiorano
Ferrari made a send off for Carlos by letting him and his father drive F1-75 together today (Charles came to watch over the cars)
Guanyu randomly participated in a gaming event (CS GO?)
Aston Martin signed Dani Juncadella as a simulator driver
this is pure gossip at this part of the season but Guanyu is in talks to be Ferrari reserve driver (which to be fair. there are many signs poiting to this and f1 is always about the subtle signs so)
McLaren is apparently "taking brave risks" with the 2025 car
Ferrari will unveil their car on 19th February (the day after the London show) in Maranello :))
Silly season
There are some rumours Briatore is interested in Franco, and this is Jackâs one chance to prove himself but you know it is Alpine soâŠ
Este wasnât allowed to finish the season with Alpine or visit the factory to say goodbye to the workers he worked alongside for 5 years â all in exchange for the post season test with Haas (he posted the special helmet he had ready for the last GP though and he came to the usual driversâ dinner in Abu Dhabi)
Helmut Marko said that Checo doesnât have his seat guaranteed and they will meet with the board after the season to discuss the second seat
today multiple even more credible sources are reporting he is officially out of the seat and being replaced by Liam Lawson (which would probably include Hadjar in the second Racing Bulls seat)
also Hadjar was kinda speaking about this back in Qatar saying that he knows he doesn't need to stress about F2 anymore and hinting at an F1 seat
OK UPDATE: i will not be rewriting everything but Checo is officially out of red bull racing seat for 2025, expect the second seat to go to Liam probably and the announcement coming this week, probably tomorrow
Valtteri lowkey spilled the tea about Sauber, he was promised that the team would be built around him in Audi, but then it quickly became apparent they have no real plans, and any aims and targets Fred had went into the bin as he left
he should probably head to Mercedes as a reserve driver as per multiple rumours
he also said he turned down an Indycar offer
Frederic let Carlos go one day earlier than planned so he could do Williams filming day on Monday instead of just testing for Williams on Tuesday
a lot of noise about what "could have been" with Toto claiming he would get Charles if he knew sooner that Lewis is leaving, Max claiming he got an offer from Ferrari, Briatore claiming Fernando got an offer from Williams before signing to Aston and Carlos claiming he was 90% (or was it 99%?) sure he would re-sign with Ferrari again
Kevin Magnussen got confirmed as WRT's driver in WEC hypercar for 2025
lots of people have been speaking about Max potentially retiring after winning another championship, announcing the pregnancy and organizing a part for all Red Bull staff in Abu Dhabi where he appeared as a speaker (but it is unfounded for now)
Ted Kravitz thinks that Alex Albon has a Red Bull exit clause in his Williams contract
Michael Manning (Max's trackside control engineer since 2016) is leaving F1
End of the season
Based on reports, Lewis organized the dinner again and Valtteri paid for everyone (and someone poisoned Charles there rip)
To add to Charlesâ misfortunes, his battery cannot be saved anymore so he missed a part of the FP1 with his brother Arthur, then they announced they are taking a new battery so he will get 10 places grid penalty, then he had a slight PU issue at the start of fp2 (and then Jean Alesi broke out he has food poisoning and almost didnât sleep) and then they had to change his plank because of extreme wear and give him a new one, then his time in Q2 (which put him to provisional p1) got deleted for track limits (while two other drivers with the same track limits violation in the same turn got their laps reinstalled)⊠fastforward a few hours and he made it to the podium from p19
It wasnât enough to get McLaren tho, so McLaren grabbed their first World Constructorâs Championship win in 26 years
Abu Dhabi was an outing for many juniors (Arthur in Carlosâ car to make history as first time brothers drove for the same team in F1, Luke Browning in Williams, Isack Hadjar in Red Bull, Felipe Drugovich in Aston Martin, Ayumu Iwasa in VCARB, Ryo Hirakawa in McLaren and technically also Jack Doohan in Alpine)
also arthur was displayed as LEL to avoid confusion with LEC
Many drivers did after season young driver testing in Abu Dhabi although there was a change: Kimi Antonelli still wasnât feeling well after he got food poisoning so after withdrawing from the last sprint race and feature race, he had to follow doctorâs orders and also withdraw from the testing (so Fred Vesti jumped in)
Max served his community service at the FIA Gala in Rwanda with young drivers
oh Max also randomly tested GTP and Yuki indycar while in the US
fun fact, remember the punctures in qatar? pirelli believes they had nothing to do with the debris on track which just raises more question marks imo
Alex and Guanyu swapped their helmets in Abu Dhabi (also idk if i mentioned but Goerge made a special helmet for lewis and Charles made one for Carlos)
Other news
Formula E donated 250k to More than Equal and Wings for Life charities as part of the bet that Max will win the championship
Alex Jacques is ending as F2 commentator
Ollie will now has his own merch line with his bear logo
[this is actually very sad, illness TW] Eddie Jorden admitted he was diagnosed with cancer and urged everyone to get their checkups
Oscar's trainer Kim Keedle is leaving F1
Tyler the Creator's Gold and Lewis' 44+ partnered for a capsule ahead of Las Vegas GP
Ollie was fangirling over Jannik Sinner at ATP finals
Franco and Guanyu both had their respective magazine photoshoots (GQ Spain Men of the Year and Man About Town) slayed them
Sophia Flörsch tried to cancel Lewis for not investing into diversity or whatever (completely missed the mark there tbh)
Christian Horner received a CBE for his services in motorsport????
there is a bit of mess behind the scenes about the F1 75 event in London because the tickets famously sold out it minutes and the official F1 rules state that the only valid tickets are from them and people who buy them from resellers won't be let in, that didn't go unnoticed by viagogo that posted about ticket resale being legal in the UK and banning their tickets would go against the anti-monopol rules :)
Older gossips I forgot to share months ago:
Oakes has primary buying rights if Alpine were to sell, it has been a part of the deal to make him the team principal of Alpine â he is Hitech CEO (or team principal? I always get all these positions twisted) and played a crucial role into signing Paul Aron as an Alpine reserve since he was Hitech driver as well
Binotto has been desperately trying to gain staff from Ferrari, but not many workers are interested in the project that doesnât seem to have a strong position among the upcoming new regs so far
Pierre was looking for a place elsewhere before he found out that he doesnât have a chance anywhere else â due to history like with VCARB or other candidates already being on the list in front of him like with HAAS â so he did the only possible thing and signed contract extension with Alpine
If Max were to follow Newey to Aston Martin in the future if they somehow manage to nail the new regulations for 2026 for example, Lance is said to be looking at WEC options
Domenicali wanted Zandvoort to include other âentertainment measuresâ besides racing (whatever that may be to him) and the investors werenât willing to do that so there was a mutual agreement to end the partnership
Checo does have a contract with red bull but not neccesarily to race with the f1 red bull racing team so expect something like "ambassador" role or 3rd driver etc.
most of the george/max beef is made up, esp the quotes because a photograph was present when they had a conversation in front of the stewards room (max told george that he will get him back the next day into t1) and as for stewards everyone goes there individually (only with team representative/representatives)
Ferrari was the last constructor (so along with their customer teams, although Sauber already changed it) to use push rod front suspension and they will be changing to pull rod for 2025 onwards
allegedly FBI was at Las Vegas GP as part of investigation into Andretti (i call bullshit)
you know how F1 told no to Andretti? apparently there is personal beef between the CEO of Liberty Media Greg Maffei (yes the one who is leaving the moment GM are confirmed) and Andretti
Yuki moved to Milan, he lives SUPER close to Pierre and they had a party when he officially moved in as a part of "housewarming"???
Random âfunâ facts I learned recently:
Fangio was once KIDNAPPED so he couldnât drive in a GP in Cuba (it was someone from Fidel Castroâs party that kidnapped him)
In the upgrades, you only need to announce changes that are visible (aka once you change something âinsideâ it is not on the list of upgrades for each weekend)
Charles can never tank a random number of liters into his car, it always has to be some nice round up number and he has âa huge car that drinks a lot, so he can fit 150 liters into it)
Gio got married!!! (they grow up so fast)
Ollie will race with number 87 next year and his father David Bearman raced in GT racing under the same number
this one's really not fun and pretty old news, someone stole a steel statue of Gilles Villeneuve from Canada
Las Vegas had a huge problem last year with many areas of the track being easily accessible by random bystanders for viewing the race for free and for this year they stepped up with different barrieres and coverage at places that were "vulnerable" last year - YET there was a part with escalators that had view of the track so some people spent hours going up and down those to see the race
#gossip night#f1#long post#e#2024#winter break#uhh yeah sorry if i misspelled anything or forgot it is 2am

Some Thoughts about Arcane Season 2, Especially Relating to Potential Time Travel
Pt 1: Isha
I think Isha has something to do with Ekko and time travel.
Something that keeps nagging at me about Isha is that we don't actually know anything about her. She showed up in S2E2 running from some guys and then literally dropped into Jinx's lap. We still don't know why she was running from them. We don't know where she came from. We have no idea who she is.
One analysis videos I watched, which I've now sadly lost track of, pointed out that there are a TON of Firelights symbols in that scene.
With this in mind, I combed through the entire six episodes of Acts 1 & 2, looking for any other green hourglasses. I didn't find them anywhere else. To be fair, I combed through the season pretty quickly, so I may have missed them. If I did, please point them out to me! But if I'm right that this is the only place we see them, that's VERY WEIRD and VERY INTENTIONAL.
Someone in a different analysis video also pointed out that Isha has some oddly fancy aspects to her outfit.
This could definitely be nothing, but something about that pattern on her vest seems out of place. Almost more like something you'd seen in Piltover than in Zaun.
My theory is that Isha was sent to this point in time by Ekko and we're going to see what led up to this moment in Act 3. Isha might be dead (I'm still sobbing about it), but we're going to learn more about her.
Will she stay dead? Honestly yeah, I think so.
I think that the version of events we're seeing is the version where time has already been changed, and I'm going to get into that more later.
Pt 2: The Letter
Actually I lied above about not finding any other green hourglasses in season 2. I found one more, in the scene where Jinx is reading Vander's letter to Silco in S2E5.
Note that this ISN'T the Firelights symbol. But it is definitely a green hourglass. Also note the gear in the center, which has been a recurring symbol this season that seems to have something to do with time.
This has to mean something, right? But I don't know what.
Pt 3: Gears-As-Clocks
There is one really notable instance of this. I really wish I had a GIF of this scene, but I don't know how to make GIFs and I don't feel like learning just for this, but here's a sequence of screenshots that hopefully show you what I mean.
Jinx turns clockwise, which transitions into the gear on Jayce's hammer also turning clockwise. Like a clock. The gear is a clock. Going forward in time.
And what shot do we get immediately after this?
Jayce is going forward in time.
I suspect there might be other instances of gears turning clockwise to symbolize a clock, but I've already spent too long on this post so if anyone finds another example, please share. Still, even if this is the only instance, it recontextualizes all gears in this season to be time-related.
Pt 4: Fortune Cookie
I kept wondering why Jinx calls Viktor a fortune cookie. I do think there are multiple parts to this and I'm missing some of it. Something about a cookie being sweet and Viktor being sweet? I dunno, I'm missing part of what this comparison means.
HOWEVER. Why a FORTUNE cookie, and not just any cookie?
Fortune cookies predict the future, but in silly, little ways that don't really mean anything. Maybe Viktor can see the future, but only glimpses. Tiny things that don't actually allow him to do anything about it.
Fortune cookies also hide their fortune inside a bland, mildly sweet cookie, and you have to break the cookie to get the fortune out...
OKAY WAIT I was gonna say I don't know what that means, but uh... you have to break the cookie to get the fortune.
You have to break Viktor to find the future.
Pt 5: Fate
I've rewatched Viktor's scenes several times, and I kept wondering why Viktor asks Singed whether he believes in fate. It seems to come out of nowhere.
My theory at this point in that Viktor knows something is manipulating events, but he can't see specifics. He just knows there is some invisible force guiding events, and maybe, he's wondering if Singed knows about it.
Pt 6: Singed's Plan
What is Singed's plan in Act 2?
He goes to the undercity rally and clearly wants to be arrested. He comes prepared with a knife and slits his hand, so he will leave a blood trail. He wants to be taken to prison, and he wants Warwick to follow him there.
When we see Singed in the prison, in the scene where Jinx finds Isha, he has the door to his cell partially open.
He could have left before that, but he wants to be there. Then the lights start flickering and he closes the door again, to protect him from Warwick.
When Caitlyn walks through the prison in S2E5, he's STILL THERE. The door is unlocked. He could have left after Warwick did. But he stayed.
He stays so he can talk to Ambessa. When Ambessa comes to see him alone in prison, the first thing he says is "I've been expecting you."
He wanted to show Ambessa what he was capable of (Warwick) so that Ambessa would hire him. And that's exactly what she does.
And what does he do? He convinces Ambessa they can use Warwick, and then tracks Warwick to Viktor's commune.
Now, there are some things worth mentioning. First, Singed likely didn't expect Jinx to be at the prison, and didn't expect Jinx to awaken Vander within Warwick. However, Jinx's presence didn't disrupt his plan to get Ambessa's attention. His plan remained intact.
Second, he wouldn't have had any way of predicting that Warwick would up in Victor's commune, but I suspect this is a happy coincidence for him. I'm guessing he wanted to use Ambessa to recapture Warwick, and then was planning to convince her that Viktor would also be useful.
We know from the scene early on in S2E4 where Ambessa is conducting hextec experiements that she wished she had captured the "scientists" aka Jayce and Viktor. Singed likely knew about Viktor's commune, just because word about it had been spreading around Zaun, and even to Piltover (Lest mentions Viktor to Salo), and we know Singed suspected that the Herald was Viktor.
Ambessa would have wanted to invade the commune to capture Viktor, even if Warwick hadn't been there.
But, it turns out, he is, so that allows Singed and Ambessa to capture two experimental subjects with one invasion. Singed wants to get in there, capture both Warwick and Viktor, and combine them into a perfect being. This is his ultimate goal on the path to "curing death".
Which leads us to my final topic.
Pt 7: Jayce
What is the thing no one expects in Act 2?
Jayce killing Viktor. This was not a part of Singed's plan. Jayce kills Viktor before Singed can get to him, and THAT is why killing Viktor was necessary.
So, I have a couple of theories of where things go from here regarding Viktor.
Option 1: While this didn't prevent Singed from getting ahold of Viktor, it did damage Viktor in some way that prevents him from being used the way Singed intended. Whatever Singed would have done with Viktor is now impossible, and the future isn't as bad as the one Jayce saw.
Option 2: Viktor is actually, fully dead, and the hints of him we see in the Act 3 preview are actually scenes from the future that Jayce saw and has now prevented. Viktor could still come back in some way in the main timeline, but... I honestly do think there's a chance that he's actually just dead, and we'll only see alternate timeline versions of him in Act 3.
Okay, I think that's everything. Sorry to end on a depressing note but uh... Arcane, right? It's good. It's really good.
I do hope Viktor isn't dead though, even if he comes back even more wrong than before.
