J.P. SHARES NEW LIVE EP THE GROOVE
Tumblr media
Following his national TV debut on The Late Show with Stephen Colbertwhere he performed his title track from this fall's School Dance, the charismatic 20-year-old Milwaukee rapper and vocalist J.P. has just shared his new live recording EP The Groove along with accompanying live performance video of "Oh Yeahhh" (The Groove Performance)––out now via Roc Nation Distribution.
youtube
The Groove EP is a continuation of the momentum J.P. has built this year, featuring a montage of previously released songs captured in a live performance setting––highlighting J.P.'s superhero melodies and the jovial energy fans have come to find so captivating. Starting with "Oh Yeahhh" (The Groove Performance), J.P. is set to release a live video for each of the songs on The Groove EP, shot in real-time with a homegrown aesthetic giving an intimate look at J.P., and further showcasing his talent as a standout artist and live performer among this generation's most promising stars.
youtube
Adding a distinct flavor to his city’s already buzzing, playful, and dance friendly sound, J.P. has perhaps done more than any singular artist in his region to put Milwaukee on the map. His Song of the Summer contender “Bad Bitty”(60M+ Streams) and the track's NLE Choppa-assisted remix(3M+ Streams) became instant anthems, followed by this Spring's critically acclaimed (Billboard, Rolling Stone, The FADER and COMPLEX) Coming Out Party, this Fall's School Dance EP, adebut TV appearance and recent return to On The Radar––all while juggling a student-athlete career as a music major and basketball player at The University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point. J.P.'s The Groove is an exclamation point on an astounding run which has catapulted him into one of the most fascinating artists to emerge this year.

J.P. SHARES NEW "LOVE BONE" MUSIC VIDEO
Tumblr media
Following his viral On the Radar performance of "Love Bone", 20-year-old Milwaukee tastemaker J.P. has shared the track's music video — out now. The visual arrives on the heels of the rapper's Song of the Summercontender “Bad Bitty” (60M Streams), as well as the track's recently-released NLE Choppa-assisted remix (2.5M streams), and follows his new album Coming Out Party. The LP marked J.P.'s first full-length offering of 2024 and was praised by the likes of Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, and The FADER.
Recent months have seen the artist garner acclaim with a string of popular singles, including 2023’s Dora the Explorer-sampling “Get Down”, “She Took”, and “PARTY MIX”, which samples Billie Eilish’s 2018 track “when the party’s over”. Known for his lovable, carefree personality as much as for his danceable sing-raps, J.P. is carving out his own niche as a must-watch artist coming out of the Midwest — all while juggling a student-athlete career as a music major and basketball player at The University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point.
youtube
Hailing from Milwaukee, J.P. was raised by his mother, grandmother, and uncles and has a background in vocal jazz performance, taking inspiration from old-school R&B artists (Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, Al Green, and Luther Vandross), classic pop singers (Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Jackie Wilson, and Ella Fitzgerald), musicals (The Sound of Music and The Wizard of Oz), and the Ethiopian dance Eskista as much as he does his hometown rap scene. Equipped with a unique arsenal of deep-cut influences, J.P. is adding his own distinct flavor to his city’s club-ready movement — and helping to put Milwaukee on the map in the process.

If your getting into Kendrick through the beef let me tell you he has such a wonderful body of work that will make you think and if you wanna understand the background of the beef itself listen to it aswell at least gkmc on. If you like Kendrick’s music and want more go back to dr Dre, snoop dogg, 2pac, Nate dogg, or to more modern west coast stuff like odd future, and Vince staples. If your rocking with the west coast stuff try some stuff from the east coast, Midwest, or south. I’m talking Jay-z, Nas, Joey Badass, KRS-One, Wu Tang, Redman, Eminem, chief keef, common, OutKast, dungeon family, three 6 mafia, future, Wayne, young thug, and so on, i kings realised I was just listing rappers so I’m not making it seem like an approachable genre, it’s the biggest genre in the world, throw on TA13OO by Denzel curry it’s probably approachable, idk where I’m going with this anymore

Momma’s Cutlass
lyrics
Hook:
Riding round in my momma’s cutlass bumping that Kast & Goodie/Witchdoctor too, that Trick Daddy too, Trina when my lady with me/R.I.P Pimp C play that UGK then I’m on my way/That MJG, 8ball, Juvie, Scarface, Three 6 on replay/
Verse 1:
Ridin in my rusted barely running bucket but I love it/Always said when I get a little money I’d turn it into somethin/Sit down in those seats felt so regal, 1st time I felt like somethin/When you hear those 808s in the trunk, you know that Big Blue comin/The 1st time I heard Outkast was in that whip that was it/You couldn’t tell me Andre & Big Boi weren’t the greatest to ever exist/See I learned about the game from UGK, I think they taught me well/With Pimp C & Bun B as role models I could never fail/Wanted to put a diamond in the back when Luda was for my favorite rapper/I know he is from the Midwest but shout out Nelly for that Country Granmar/Back when Petey Pablo was the only rapper reppin’ Carolina/Then came Little Brother then came Cole & I swore I was coming after/There’s something bout driving out 30 minutes seeing nothing but trees & fields/There’s something bout listening to Coming Out Hard rolling on classic wheels/There’s something about coming to Papa Lewis house he on the grill/Flipping burgers, playing the Isley’s close my eyes I smell it still/
Verse 2:
Rolling in that big body got me feeling like Percy Miller/Use to make those cars solid like a tank ain’t no limits Nigga/I remember hopping in the backseat & momma turns the radio to Foxy 99/And pull up next to the Yahoo bubble Chevy at the red light on Ireland drive/And he blasting that new Carter 2, track #3 money on my mind/Back then you would hear Lil’ Wayne or T-Pain playing on the radio all the time/Up north niggas would come down south, all day in your ear they claim/Where they from is so better, we don’t care go back to winch you came/Wanted to put that 84 on 24’s shout out T.I./We ain’t never scared, out the windows yellin Bia Bia/Use play Trillville but wouldn’t let us get too close at the dance at school/So afterwards we’d go to RJ house, we pull up & he playing that Uncle Luke/There’s something bout driving out 30 minutes seeing nothing but trees & fields/There’s something bout listening to Devin The Dude while rolling on classic wheels/There’s something bout Driving slow in 05 bumpin’ Swishahouse/With a foil grill in my mouth, damn I love being from the south/
