MYAAP SHARES NEW "WRIST BUSS" VIDEO
Tumblr media
Fresh off the release of her new single "Wrist Buss", 18-year-old Milwaukee phenom Myaap has just shared the track's music video. Rooted in glittery bounce, "Wrist Buss" is a turbo-charged outing defined by sticky flexes ("Wrist on froze/And my neck too/Big Clifford around this bitch/You a Scooby-Doo") and a hypnotic refrain. Following her recent stint as an opener on the second leg of Veeze’s Ganger Tour, Myaap released her YOP! EP earlier this year. Produced by Goth Money's own Nedarb (Lil Peep, $uicideboy$, Black Kray), the project served as a testament to both Myaap's forward-thinking artistry and ever-growing hunger — a fitting follow-up to her EP BIG MYAAP, NOT THE LIL ONE. Still just a teenager, Myaap stands at the cutting edge of her city's cultural moment, backed by her viral ABBA-sampling phenomenon, “Getting To It", as well as other party-ready tracks like “Wham'' (4M+ Streams) and “Party Crackin" (4M Streams).
youtube
Making waves for her genre-defying take on Milwaukee bounce, Myaap's fiery energy and captivating wordplay are seeing her level up amongst her city's ranks, collaborating with fellow hometown heroes like Certified Trapper, AyooLii, and J.P. Continuing to infuse her regional scene with danceable raps and contagious, upbeat energy, Myaap is on a steady ascent — she also recently performed at MIKE's Young World Festival in a lineup alongside Earl Sweatshirt. Despite releasing her debut track in 2022, Myaap has quickly garnered a cult-like following for the bass-heavy sound that’s become synonymous with her name: blending Southern bounce with the distinct, contemporary styles coming out of Chicago and Detroit's street rap scenes.

Doors Open Milwaukee
As we do every year, this past Saturday (September 28, 2024) we participated in the annual city-wide event, Doors Open Milwaukee, where over 150 institutions, facilities, and buildings open their doors to the community. Of course, as a public institution our doors are always open to the public, but this event offers us an opportunity to emphasize the public-facing aspect of our Special Collections.
During the event, we displayed select examples from our many collecting areas. These materials were arranged chronologically from the 15th century to the present, covering incunabula, literature, history, horticulture, printmaking technologies, state-of-the-art facsimiles, fine-press publications, and artists' books.
142 visitors walked through our doors on Saturday, with many coming in family groups. As you can see from the images, the children were as fascinated with our materials as the adults!

J.P. SHARES NEW "LOVE BONE" MUSIC VIDEO
Tumblr media
Following his viral On the Radar performance of "Love Bone", 20-year-old Milwaukee tastemaker J.P. has shared the track's music video — out now. The visual arrives on the heels of the rapper's Song of the Summercontender “Bad Bitty” (60M Streams), as well as the track's recently-released NLE Choppa-assisted remix (2.5M streams), and follows his new album Coming Out Party. The LP marked J.P.'s first full-length offering of 2024 and was praised by the likes of Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, and The FADER.
Recent months have seen the artist garner acclaim with a string of popular singles, including 2023’s Dora the Explorer-sampling “Get Down”, “She Took”, and “PARTY MIX”, which samples Billie Eilish’s 2018 track “when the party’s over”. Known for his lovable, carefree personality as much as for his danceable sing-raps, J.P. is carving out his own niche as a must-watch artist coming out of the Midwest — all while juggling a student-athlete career as a music major and basketball player at The University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point.
youtube
Hailing from Milwaukee, J.P. was raised by his mother, grandmother, and uncles and has a background in vocal jazz performance, taking inspiration from old-school R&B artists (Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, Al Green, and Luther Vandross), classic pop singers (Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Jackie Wilson, and Ella Fitzgerald), musicals (The Sound of Music and The Wizard of Oz), and the Ethiopian dance Eskista as much as he does his hometown rap scene. Equipped with a unique arsenal of deep-cut influences, J.P. is adding his own distinct flavor to his city’s club-ready movement — and helping to put Milwaukee on the map in the process.

A Crow-Attack Winter’s Feathursday
On this last #Feathursday of 2022 we present a scene of winter conflict with American Crows (Corvus brachyrhynchos) mobbing a predator Great Horned Owl (Bubo virginianus) from the 1963 book Birds of Wisconsin by the Wisconsin nature artist Owen J. Gromme (1896-1991), published for the Milwaukee Public Museum, where Gromme was curator of birds and mammals, by the University of Wisconsin Press. The original painting is oil on canvas from 1956 and measures 24″ by 30″. Gromme writes:
The familiar feud between owls and crows is portrayed in this study of a Great Horned Owl and it assailants. Powerful and well armed though it may be, many a battered and befuddled owl has been temporarily bested by these persistent tormentors, until nightfall reverses the advantage.
He goes on to state that hunters often take advantage of this natural enmity and use owl decoys to lure crows to their death. Gromme states: “Sometimes hundreds of crows are shot in a few hours by the use of such a decoy.”
Why anyone would want to slaughter hundreds of these majestic animals is beyond our comprehension. Appalling!!

Oh no oh no, I want to buy myself a little treat. Like need that serotonin boost. And I do have a LITTLE in savings. But not enough for like, a tattoo or whatever my brain is saying I need.
....I mean PROBABLY enough actually but I've been trying to save up and that would be all my spare money.
I always buy myself a birthday present (cause no one else does lol) so maybe I'll make an appointment and that can be that.
