Thinking so normally about a redeemed/redemption Wesker wearing normal eyewear or less opaque sunglasses.

How the whole purpose of the shades was to hide his emotions from everyone. To distance himself from any vestige of humanity.

But now he doesn’t like how he looks in them now that he is “trying to do good.” How he grimaces when he catches sight of the cold black lenses staring back at him.

It doesn’t look human.

It doesn’t look real.

It doesn’t look like him.

He can’t go without any eyewear, his eyes now far too sensitive to light, due to the virus and his years of adapting to the filtered light. So he finds a pair that are less opaque, and he starts to wear them.

And he despises it. He hates how vulnerable and weak it makes him feel to be so seen.

He hates how easily others can see his reaction. How his eyes narrow when he’s upset or the way they light up (quite literally) when he’s excited or interested. The way he rolls his eyes far more than a man his age should.

But then, things start to shift. It becomes easier interacting with those around him. No one has to guess how he feels about everything, and in fact everyone seems more… welcoming towards him? He expects ridicule, a snide comment. But none ever come.

He finds himself dragged back down to being just… another person. And while some part of hates the feeling with a passion, another part feels seen for the first time in perhaps decades.

There are days he goes back to his original shades. Days where he tries desperately to cling onto his past in an attempt to not let the guilt of what he has done finally crush him under its foot.

But they never feel the same.
