BEFORE THE FORGETTING

michael fritzi never knew his real family. at only a few days old, michael was found on the steps of an orphanage and for most of his childhood, he bounced around from home to home, never truly fitting in. it was at the age of 18 that he finally broke free from the system and began to live life his own way. of course, the streets were no place for a young kid but it was better than almost all of the foster homes he had lived in. michael had almost even convinced himself that he enjoyed it. he could do what he wanted when he wanted to, he could explore different neighborhoods with no ties and he had no responsibilities. it was really no surprise that he found himself in trouble so often.

AFTER THE FORGETTING

dreamlight valley was unlike any place he had ever visited - but that didn’t mean michael had planned on staying there forever. he stumbled upon the valley while searching for shelter after running from the law, something he found himself doing all too often. while he was grateful for the weird thorns that grew around dreamlight for keeping the police out, he resented them for keeping him in. michael wasn’t cut out for a place like dreamlight valley, it was far too close knit and peaceful for a scoundrel like himself. it wasn’t long before he made a name for himself and now he spends every day just trying to get by without getting into too much trouble — because now there is no where to run to.

Eddie's getting used to it.

First it's the workout mixes blasting at 6 am because Jason has to get pumped for the day. This is pretty miserable, and almost nothing makes it better, except that Jason can ride him for hours, can go all night because his endurance is endless. In the end, Eddie has to give up cigarettes just to keep up with him, and then the 6 am workout mixes slowly make him less pissed off.

Then, it's the affirmations. Their mirror is covered in bright green post it's telling him, 'You miss 100% of the shots you don't take." He writes '-Wayne Gretsky - Michael Scott' underneath, which goes barely noticed. They're cheesy and annoying, until he's starting his first day at the studio and he finds a little green post it in his guitar case. "Go get 'em, baby." He stops caring so much about the post its. He starts to like the color green.

Next, it's the coffee. Jason's never had it before, and he goes kind of crazy with the weird creamers, oat milk and fancy espresso machines. But when Jason brings him a new concoction in bed with a kiss, he doesn't mind so much that their whole house smells like espresso. He starts to appreciate it as more than wake up sludge, when Jason makes it all fancy, presents it and watches Eddie try with light in his eyes.

Then it's the tattoos. He thought Jason would stop at one, but that addictive personality is hard to shake. Angel's wings spill out over his back, lyrics at his cuffs. Eddie has to stop him in Vegas from getting a tramp stamp, though he doesn't pull him back that hard. It's not a surprise when Jason buys a machine, first as a hobby and then, later, when he starts apprenticing. He likes the rush of it, the permanence and the impermeability. Eddie gets really used to kissing the shark that spills over Jason's left peck, like a benediction.

He was getting used to it, but mostly he doesn't get used to it. Jason's always changing, hungry for life, eating up new experiences like crazy. And Eddie's just happy to be along for the ride.

David Stuart Davies:

Regarding 'The Norwood Builder', Michael Cox and Jeremy Brett had a long, hard discussion about the part of the script where Holmes disguises himself when he hides in the woods and meets a tramp. It really wasn't much of a disguise as such: there was no false nose, wig or other artificial aids. All we got was Jeremy in mufti, with unkempt hair and a dirty face.

Michael Cox recalls:

'Jeremy said, "Holmes was taken unawares and would not have his make-up with him out at Norwood, Michael." So what he decided he would do is wash the gunge out of his hair and do a sort of country accent and play him as a totally different person but not someone who looks startlingly different. Frankly, I was a bit disappointed. I wanted him to do something more exotic. But I can see the logic of his position. So we went with Jeremy on that.'

It is a case of Brett being true to Holmes and the situation, but, I suspect, the viewing public would be on Michael's side on this issue. It would have been far more satisfying to see him buried beneath some glorious concoction rather than the grubby, real Brett that we got.

To Everyone else: He’s as cordial as he needs to be. He’s been keeping people at a distance for quite a long time so this is nothing new. He doesn’t often waste any time thinking about those he meets or what he can do for them because he’s too busy thinking about his own family.

‘Did I leave the dishwasher running? If I did (Y/n)’s sippy cup should be in there. That’ll be good. Oh, and Yulia has a skating competition this week…’

He’s so disconnected sometimes he forgets the...consequences that spring from his own actions or lack thereof.

“So darling who was that tramp?”

“What tramp?”

To You: He tries to be as sweet as any parent should be. Your chubby body, your gleeful squeals, and your tiny grip on him–are always reminders to him about how much he cherishes you. He’s aware that Remalda is inclined to spoil you and he doubts that will ever change so he has to take initiative and be the adult. But he didn’t have to worry about it now, not when you were so young and it was normal anyway to act on your whims. You have no other way to communicate so it's okay!

“Baby, be careful waving that toy in the air! You might hit a bird!”

You’ll babble and ultimately end up flinging the toy in the air wacking a bird off its perch.

“Oh s-dear! Okay okay, you can have it back just don’t do that again. Okay?”

To Everyone Else: Only if you pay for it. He’s a businessman after all and he doesn’t get the results he does by being “sweet.” He’ll make his peers pay a fee if they want to see his pearly whites and even then it's never the real thing. It’s safe to say he takes after his Mother and Father when it comes to being sweet…it covers his real thoughts that are either completely unrelated or especially violent.

“Geez Michael you could’ve at least acted like you care! I’m paying for the experience, right?”

“You right, I don’t care. But if you want the experience with a friendly disposition you’ll have to pay the fee.” 

“What!? Seriously this is a lot more than I imagined…”

‘Of course I do I need to have enough to support my baby and little sister…I wonder if I would get more if I just stabbed him.’

To You: He’s sweet t in the way that he always holds you with care and reprimands your wrong-doings. While he’s not too different from his father he still feels like it's his duty to ‘properly raise you’. He thinks-no he knows you're the precious baby that needs his loving hand to guide you in this messed up family. And since you're his sweet baby he will be the sweetest to you and Yulia.

“Alright (Y/n)...give me your hand.”

“(Y/n). (Y/n), listen to big brother. Give me your hand.”

He’s trying his hardest to be sweet with you, it's not typically in his nature to choose kindness over violence but he tries. He loves you after all so he’s willing to try anything to see your gummy smile and hear the bells of your laughter.

“Good job, (Y/n). Next, you’ll have to learn to give me one of your toys.”

To Everyone Else: Of course, she is sweet to everyone! Why not be? Everyone’s usually so nice to her–always complimenting her ice skating and how good of a big sister she is. Sometimes when she talks to those who know her brother they seemed surprised she is so nice. 

“Huh, Michael? Oh well, he’s quite curt but I wouldn’t say he’s mean.”

So where her beloved brother slips up she carries the weight, hoping to dissuade others from building too much aggression towards him. Because she knows him and he’s the kindest big brother; yes, he may mysteriously be ridding her of any and all problems she speaks about.

“Threatened you? He’s just…doing his own thing. Yeah, sorry about that…”

To You: Yes! Why wouldn’t she?! Her darling baby sibling is just so cute and when Michael’s busy and the parents are fighting+ you always seem to reach out for her. Always seem to remember her. So she gives you kisses and risks her mother’s wrath to sneak into your nursery for a sleepover.
