Just saw a post that made me think of this:

Imagine a Mianite AU where the gods never show up.

Like, they exist. They are real. Their presence affects the series and the lives of the people just as much as it would if they were there, but they aren't. Rather than being there, physically, they pull strings in the background.

There's no outright "teams" in the way you can define a person as a Mianitee or a Dianitee.

But, there's times when Tom gets an impulse that makes even him pause, something that is a bit more destructive or hurtful than he'd initially think to do. Wouldn't going full in on a cruel prank and blowing someone's house and items to smithereens be a bit across the line?

There's times where Tucker finds himself ready to snap at someone or put someone in their place because they did something just a little out of line. But that's stupid, right? It's hardly something worth starting a fight over if someone decides to get antsy and start carving up the ground and making mockery of someone else.

And maybe Jordan finds himself feeling like he has mood swings. Some days he's a stickler for the rules, things need to go a certain way and be in line and in order or else he just feels off the whole day. On other days, sometimes right after a order-y day, he'll feel the need to cause chaos, like he's been possessed by Tom all of the sudden. Things are too orderly, too nice and neat and Jordan just needs to tilt things a bit away from all of that.

Sonja gets a bit of that need for order, but its less. For a while she figures its just Tucker rubbing off on her until she starts to get darker thoughts. Things that scare her, because surely she isn't this cruel? Ideas of breaking her friends down, putting them beneath her and ripping their beliefs away from them. It's something she actively fights against, deciding its just a bad case of intrusive thoughts and reminding herself each time they happen that she doesnt want to hurt her friends and that these thoughts arent her.

Sonja is the closest to the truth.

Dec knows the truth, but he also decides to keep it hidden. Not in a "i will erase any hint of the truth" type of way, but in a "i wont go out of my way to reveal it." He can tell who is being affected by who, which person is more strongly aligned to which god. Each time a new person comes along he'd make bets with himself about who is going to be more like what god. Nadeshot? It was hard to say, with him leaning Dianite and back towards Mianite. Then he fell towards the Shadows which worried Dec. The Modesteps? Very Dianite- could have been a shoe in for the Shadows if they'd stuck around that long.

No, the gods have no real presence until the pirates come along. Capsize who is on a mission to free Ianite. Redbeard who is a little too observant when it comes to the leanings of the natives. Dec gets to them first, tells them the situation, then stands back.

It was always out of his hands, after all.

In the moment Pete's body is passed out in real world, in his mide he's been transferred to the void, Lady Void sings telling the story of her being cast aside as a goddess. During the song her monster appearance slowly shifts to more humanoid because of Pete's devotion and finally acceptance and understanding of her.

Finally she has a strong connection to the outside world, her roots are so much stronger than they were before and on the bet drop with the yelling of "LET THEM DROWN" Pete's physical body begins to ooze void itself.

Yes this is a play on Catnap type power where Pete now can drool void that would suck out the life of his enemies. He has become a siren of the Lady Void herself 🥰 so like instead of a "priest" or a "God representative" or "apprentice" he's a siren

steddie mianite au - part 1

Sunrise has always felt like the calm before the storm to Eddie. Sure, there were the monsters, but most tended to slink back to caves and anywhere dark before the sun rose. Being up at sunrise meant that there was a high chance that none of the other inhabitants of the island would be awake. It was just Eddie and the sky.

Every morning, just as the sky was lightening, Eddie walks the same loop. From his house on the east side of the island, Eddie walks half of the perimeter of the south side and cuts back across from the west when he’s finished. He’s out for said morning walk, shoes in hand and enjoying the feeling of sand between his toes when he sees a figure lying on the beach. Worried for a moment, (though he’d furiously deny it), that it’s one of the girls, he rushes forward.

It’s not either of the girls, not even close. Lying on his stomach on the sand, face sideways in the opposite direction to Eddie is a man. A stranger, perhaps? He pokes the guy in the back with his bare foot. 

Nothing.

Sighing, Eddie puts his shoes down and kneels on the sand because despite what the others say, he cares about people, damn it! He reaches over the prone body and rolls him over by the shoulder. The man’s head flops in Eddie’s direction, allowing him to see the guy’s face. Eddie takes a sharp breath in.

The man is gorgeous. Eddie’s sure he’s a stranger now cause he would have remembered that face. His hair, while stiff from the salt, flops over his forehead and frames his perfect face. He has a spattering of freckles on his face which continue down to his neck. Eddie briefly wonders how far they continue before mentally smacking himself. If this stranger is in the same boat as the rest of them, Eddie refuses to leave him alone. No one deserves to wake up alone in a place they didn’t recognise. Not like Eddie.

So he gets to work, struggling as he drags the stranger up the beach and onto some grass in the shade of a tree. He checks that the man is breathing and presses a finger to his wrist to feel his pulse. It’s there, beating steadily. Eddie breathes a sigh of relief, checking he still had his water flask in his belt, knowing the man would want a drink when he wakes. He places his palm on the guy’s forehead, ensuring he isn’t burning up. 

Satisfied that he’s checked all he can, Eddie carefully lifts the stranger’s head up, shifting underneath and crossing his legs, laying the man’s head in his lap. Eddie leans back against the tree trunk, his hands finding the stranger's hair. It’s salty and full of sand as he observed before, dried in stiff peaks. Eddie smooths it out of his face before continuing to run with his fingers through it. He isn’t sure how long he sits there, admiring the stranger’s face while periodically checking his pulse. Eddie’s watching the waves roll in when he feels some movement beneath him. Looking down, he sees the man blinking up at him, eyes squinted against the sun. “Morning, sweetheart.”

The man blinks once more. “Hi,” he croaks out. He’s suddenly hit with a coughing fit. Eddie gently pushes him upright, rubbing his back until the coughs subside. The stranger’s head falls back into Eddie’s lap, who valiantly fights back a blush. Eddie shakes his head, remembering the water flask he’d put away earlier. He opens the top and brings it to the man’s lips, tilting his head up as he drinks. The water must do its job to soothe the stranger’s throat because he pulls back, head going back into Eddie’s lap, and thanks Eddie softly.

Eddie fails not to blush this time. The man’s voice was hot. God, why did it have to be hot? Eddie was already struggling to keep thinking normal thoughts and hearing his voice properly for the first time was not helping.

Oblivious to Eddie’s internal panic, the stranger clears his throat, bringing Eddie back to the problem at hand. He’s still worried that this man is like the rest of them, washed up with no memory of their past. So he decides to test it. “What’s your name?”

He’s quiet for a second. “Steve. It’s Steve.”

Eddie smiles down at him, fingers tingling as the guy, Steve, speaks. “Hi there, Steve.” Everyone else knew their names when they woke, Eddie included. He digs deeper. “How’d you get here?”

This seems to stump Steve, his brow furrowing as he thinks. Eddie expected this. He hadn’t been able to answer that. Still can’t. 

Eddie lets Steve think for a little longer, stroking a thumb across Steve’s forehead when the silence stretches on for too long. “It’s ok, you don’t need to answer,” Eddie assures. He goes back to stroking Steve’s hair as the man beneath him hums.

Steve’s eyes slip shut as they sit in silence; the sounds of the early morning birds and the waves breaking on the shore surround them. Eddie’s surprised Steve trusts him. He’s essentially being held in the arms of a stranger. Eddie’s enjoying every moment, so he keeps quiet. It’s Steve who breaks the silence, asking for Eddie’s name. 

“Eddie,” he says with a smile, thumb now stroking Steve’s cheek. “How are you feeling, sweetheart?”

Steve’s eyes flutter open, staring directly into Eddie’s. “Thirsty. And hungry too.”

“I think we can fix that. Anything else?”

“My head hurts,” Steve admits.

“Well,” Eddie says sweetly. “I promise to try and fix that too.”

a couple of curious questions now though!

do ender dragons serve any specific purpose/have connections within the ecosystem at large, or are they just kinda like… internal organs for servers as Entities?

is there any particular way that game updates manifest, or is it sort of a presumption that they were there “the whole time”? and if the former, where are the updates coming from? 👁️👁️

and last! are there any servers outside of those connected to grian‘s specific arc that you have had any interesting thoughts about? ie empires, new life, vault hunters, dsmp, origins, mianite, etc

This has been sitting in my inbox for MONTHS but i finally have some brainpower to answer it so!!! Firstly i really hope you ended up enjoying the fic if youve gotten around to reading it :]] and im really glad you like all the worldbuilding and lore!! These are such great questions so im gonna try my best to do them justice >:]]

So i only recently puzzled this out with the Ender Dragon's role in the overall universe's ecosystem, but to explain it i need to go on a bit of a tangent. So if youve been through my loredoc, then you probably already know that Players are what drive the creation of server worlds-- ive likened this before to the protective shell of an egg, surrounding a Spawned Player to shield it from the inhospitable environment of the in-between. For the purposes of this analogy, we'll say a server is like the eggshell, while the Player inside it is the chick growing within. Once a Player has developed enough, gone through the majority of their progression advancements, the universe will direct them to one last task-- kill the Ender Dragon. This is the egg-tooth, what will essentially hatch the Player so they can emerge from their shell and enter the universe at large (aka join and discover other servers, mingle with other Players, etc etc).

The way Ender Dragons function in servers is that they essentially lock travel to and from them-- while the dragon is alive, nothing comes in, and nothing comes out. Once killed, the return gateway at the center island is opened up to the overworld-- but thats not the only function it has. Return gateways can actually serve as a portal to other open servers!! Players can adjust the server address via their comm, and spawn in at a completely different location than the server they just left. This is how basic intra-server travel occurs!!

Relatedly, Hypixel is what i consider a "hub" server-- aka a large, traffic-heavy server that acts as a bridge point for Players hopping between distant worlds. The distance between two servers is a very distinct factor in how easy it is to travel between them, and after a certain point, you cant hop directly across that gap without needing to use a hub server as a bridge. Its sorta like a rest stop during long road trips, if you look at it sideways. Because of this Hypixel is very touristy in my mind and hosts a lot of constant entertainment for Players who stop there on their way to another destination!!!

(an additional fun little fact for you: when MCC isnt hosting its monthly tournament, it acts as a hub server as well!! Noxcrew are in charge of upkeeping its maintenance :] )

For servers other than those already mentioned, ive definitely had some thoughts about empires and dsmp. Most of them boil down to the fact that 90% of what Players do is basically LARP 😂😂😂 so Empires??? Entirely LARPing. These guys are living their best lives just making shit up and my gods are they having fun with it. My thoughts on DSMP are actually on a similar note, with one key difference: i think it started out as pure LARPing, and then everyone just got a little... too into it, per se. Like huge case of "got too invested and now theres actual emotional stakes here in what was supposed to be a silly play-pretend conflict" and then things just started spiraling out of control. I havent put a WHOLE ton of thought into it beyond that tho

As for updates, my thoughts are a bit complex-- for things that arent mobs (aka structures), im operating more on the basis of "theyve always been there"-- but for mobs themselves, i think the process is sorta akin to randomized and rapid evolution. New mobs arent uniformly pushed out into server worlds-- i think they just sometimes appear, and then gradually more and more Players begin to encounter them; sorta like randomized rollouts, in a way. Newer worlds are more likely to host newer mobs, while older ones may not see them soon or even at all, depending on where theyre at in their own life cycles. Smth ive also been thinking a lot about lately which i promise is vaguely related to this is that Player-kept information isnt centralized!! They dont really have the internet like we do, so any news about new mobs showing up in vanilla worlds has to be spread purely by word-of-mouth

I was watching Jordan's VoDs for sdmp which is admittedly rare for me because I don't watch much lately but what the heck. The scene in the basement of the HOA got me feeling so major Mianite brain worms?? Led into a dark basement surrounded in smoke and dripping lava and opening the conversation with what deity or god are you worshiping after saying you prayed for this fucks with my brain. An AU where Jschlatt is being controlled by the Shadows unknowingly and tempting Sparklez into evil is running wild. The mini tangent episodes before about doing yearly rewatches hit but the hoa basement scene??? That's not leaving my head for a while. There's now just this mental image of a weakened Ianite with glowing eyes staring at Sparklez from his farm area above his house at night that is just *there* now.

Mianite AU Concept:

Tom can see the future, but like, *every* possible future, so he's constantly running around confused like "wait is this the one where I get stabbed in 5 mins or the one where xyz-" and everyone thinks he's insane bc his head is already full of Too Many Thoughts that keeping track of timelines is Near Impossible for him so he has a 10% chance of actually accurately predicting something to an exact degree while the rest of the time he throws out WILD predictions that are no where near what happens.

Except for killing Dianite. He sees every possibility in that moment and realizes that the kindest, best outcome is the one in which he kills Dianite. Every other future comes with great consequences. Was it really ever an option, then?

on your Aitheaca au, when I was writing I was trying to imply that what was stolen was Capsize, but in my want to be vague I know I didn’t do a good job. Like my train of thought was that Ianite was, to a lesser extent, sensing Capsize in a similar vein to how she was sensing ‘Dianite’ when it was actually Tom, if that makes sense. I interpreted this version of Ianite as a goddess who despises not knowing, seeing it as a weakness in herself, so when she senses something that is “hers” but unrecognizable to her, she lies to Flash.

also! thinking about crew dynamics is interesting, cause depending on how you split them up you are almost always stuck with an instigator and an arbiter. The way you’ve split them up rn, Sonja and Tom are instigators (more Tom leaning than anything) and Spark’s the arbiter. Martha’s the arbiter while the other two are instigators. But this fluctuates depending on who’s in the room. Essentially, there’s always going to be a high chance for issues caused inside the group and out.

OH!!! Listen listen liSTENNNN do not say you didnt do didnt do a good job you did an excellent job, there aint nothin wrong with the choice to be vague with it I just dont catch onto things very well xD I really love that idea a ton, I totes agree that she would be able to pick up on Capsize's Ianitian quintessence (the ownership thing I feel could have ties to Capsize's connection to Ianite in the S1 world leaning on the side of being a messenger rather than the champion kind of cues that Jordan would carry if that makes any sense) and also what ya had mentioned on AO3 too, about Jordan's quintessence having ticks of World Historians in him as well that would obscure things a little makes a ton of sense as well and bangs :D

and yeah!!! Aitheaca Ianite is absolutely someone who is hellbent on being an 'all-knowing' for the sake of ultimate balance, where her logic is that if she can control everything, that's how she can guarantee that chaos or order doesnt have an opportunity to rise up- and is the principle on which her reign was founded on. I can imagine this brings her into conflict with the notion of the Watchers (who inherently possess this ability, while she has to rely on her intuitive judgement and using visual conduits/spies, like taking control of Flash) which is why I could maybe imagine she'd want to keep these kinds of things from Flash. She's very much aware of Merina's presence around her champion, and holds resentment that she can't have Merina as her spy and that under the right theoretical circumstance, could break Flash free of her manipulation at any given moment due to her having a higher form of omnipotence (all this being said, Merina is a lower level watcher and isn't at the level of possessing godly foresight that Ianite seems to think she has) I very much want it to feel like a psychological game that Ianite plays with her subordinates that she would only want Flash to believe and be aware of certain things while lying about things like weakness or potential flaw

And crew dynamics!! yessahh the instigator-arbiter combo was absolutely intentional >:] For the sake of chaos (dianitee moment) but also while it would be so easy to just pair them off in travelling groups as syndisparklez/foxxsize or embersduo/zombiecaptains it makes for more interesting writing for them to be split up with the person they had the rockiest history with + a Ruxomarian who does not want to be stuck there (in some random reality across the multiverse) to begin with. In a way the thought process is the "get along or fucking die" premise especially when they start encountering like Flash but like ya said it really is a lot of infighting xD in the Martha led group the dynamic centers around 3 Ianitees all holding some kind of reasonable resentment towards one another (though they can bond over seein their goddess/mom in such a different light and how thats affecting them; like Martha especially not having seen much of Ia in Ruxomar and while she spent time with S1 Ia, I can imagine how jarring it is to run into a universe where your mom is a corrupt deity) And then the Spark led group is just a mess, because Tom and Sonja are both massive instigators in their own way and while they can get into some absolutely unhinged shenanigans as a duo a rift was absolutely torn between them post-S2/Isles era that they become prone to not be willing to go back on their opinions of something and hear the other out. Spark hasnt spent a lot of time with either of them so its hard to take on anything but a methodology of compromise which neither of them want to really entertain- When the four are together the banter can feel a little friendlier because deep down they do all care for one another, they just have a hard time expressing it

In terms of the other instigator duos with Spark n Martha (speaking of, I have a scene with them two and Sonja, which has been funky to ponder on when they encounter Mianite for the first time) its kinda just chaos. Chaos like when you put two besties together xD

Can you ramble a bit about the mianite/hermitcraft au?

Oh absolutely I can. I'm still conceptualizing so bear with me (I'm also rewatching the series as we speak so I might correct some lore bits as time goes on.)

An important thing to establish is that these versions of the god trio are specifically the personalities and deific domains of s2.

It's also important to establish that Mianite and Ianite are still dead. They are being teleported from the aftermath of s2. Dianite is technically the only one fully alive but as shown throughout various seasons when gods die their spirits persist, their physical forms and some of their power is what's destroyed. Through being teleported Mianite and Ianite have been given semi physical forms and minimal power as a part of their "respawn" but not full resurrection as at the end of the day they aren't players.

These deities arrive on the hermitcraft server seemingly on accident. Random portals and reality warping are well documented phenomena in both mianite and hermitcraft so there could be a direct cause for their teleportation, or it could be completely random. On their arrival no one is sure.

Xisuma is very keen to get them off his server as soon as humanly possible but the other hermits take to them quickly. The more troublemaking hermits find Dianite's exploits amusing and the economic minded hermits like his trade aspect. Since he still has his powers he is able to assist them in those senses. Those who don't immediately take to dianite take interest in the other gods or just sit back and watch the chaos.

Mianite approaches Xisuma with an offer. If Xisuma helps resurrect him fully, he will be able to use his full power to return him and his siblings to their original world. Xisuma is very keen on this plan and becomes Mianite's first champion on the server. (If it wasn't obvious Mianite is a hundred percent lying about this he is going to attempt a full take over.)

This plan eventually leaks to the other hermits and as both ianite and dianite understand how bad of an idea this is, factions start forming based on the god they side with.

This is a tentative list of how those factions shake out at the start (these do change over time)

(note: the dianite and ianite factions aren't strictly seperate here, they work together a lot. This is just differentiating who is the champion of who)

Dianitee Jordan and Capsize getting along better because Jordan would no longer be the only person to believe in a lost deity so isn't desperate for Capsize's approval, and Capsize isn't going to think she's Dianite's favourite at any point because even in Canon, he's so clear that his favourite is Jordan.

Dianitee Jordan and Capsize getting along worse because Dianite has realised that the two being competitive idiots for his affection makes them do so much more stuff for him.

Phil, Cellbit, maybe Roier??? - Ianite

Mike, maybe Vegetta?? - Dianite

Foolish - tends towards Dianite but switches affiliations like changing clothes

Étoiles - S1 Mianite? The Feds are definitely very S2 Mianite coded but there’s a few islanders who are probably Mianitees but practice / lean more towards S1 Mianite’s principals

in depth ramblings for some of them under the cut bc i’m So So mentally ill about mianite related assignments. i may assign the eggs their own gods later so don’t worry i haven’t forgotten about those little guys

in my heart of hearts i know logically qtubbo should be under like, s2 dianite at the least. but i’m my heart of hearts i also cannot bring myself to make him anything other than an ianitee. it feels Wrong.

i think creating parallels between the different gods is fun, hence why normal q and el q are both different types of mianitees and jaiden+roier+cellbit are different types of ianitees

jaiden is like. the perfect ianitee. she’s already purple coded sure but you take into her being charlie’s lawyer AND how she tries to stand up for the census bureau and make people see its side. punches wall. she is so so balance to me she just wants them all to be on even ground

i gave pac ianite bc he has the same mentality as jordan in which he doesn’t see any value in himself without the other half of his duo with him LMAO

phil gets s2 ianite bc of all his attempts to get the eggs back by attacking the federation gives the same vibes as jordan attacking the taint to get ianite back. who cares about the consequences they want their loved ones and will do Anything to get them back, no matter who gets hurt
