where the hell is the karma / no country could be sweeter masterpost

the extensive guide to the fic that ate my brain

basics:

both karma and no country take place in the same timeline. where the heart is acts as the end of karma, and the beginning of no country.

there are prequel/midquel fics that take place during the five-year timespan covered by where the heart is. these are in the subseries somewhere up the road.

timeline:

karma is largely canon-complicit through the main series: there is one major shift that directly alters canon, but the rest does not contradict it. no country is the post-canon continuation, and plays faster and looser with isles.

karma is a finished series - its story is complete, and it is unlikely that i will update it further.

far side of the universe, the core subseries within no country, is a finished subseries - that portion of the story is complete, and it is unlikely that i will alter it.

somewhere up the road, the midquel/prequel subseries of no country, is ongoing: i may or may not update it.

heartache, the sequel subseries of no country, is ongoing and will occassionaly be updated.

this is the best format i have to try and explain this mess.

adjacent fics:

not everything that i write is in the same universe. there are, however, other fics of mine that are adjacent to karma/no country and can be taken as happening in the same framework. these fics are not inherently canon to karma/no country, but they could be. the tone of these works is sometimes darker, so mind the tags.

a better birthday post would be “happy 10 years to the mcyt series that molded me so much as a child that i still reflect mannerisms of the streamers to this day” but to be honest mianite is so much more to me than that. mianite not only provided me with years of entertainment but it also made me who i am. it gave me opportunities to meet incredible people (miss u forever nerf house) and make some of the most incredible friendships i’ve ever made. mianite fostered my creativity as a kid and it’s a huge part of the reason that i’m so passionate about my hobbies. i genuinely would not be the person i am today without it, even though it seems like such a silly little minecraft series.

He barely notices it at first, caught up as he is in the sheer novelty of sinking his fingers into unfamiliar soil. 

New worlds are chaotic, flighty things after all: the fabric of them needs time to stretch and to settle into place, to break in and be broken like leather. Their fresh bones pop and creak as they grow ever outward. 

Likewise, players need time to get used to new places. They sprint across its surface, stumble over cracks and rabbitholes and ravines, pry coal and gems from stone with the tips of their fresh new tools and spill the blood of beasts to sate their appetites. They shout. They grow. They dream. They live, and living takes time. 

Thus, it makes sense that amidst the chaos of the newness unfolding and flourishing around him, Tom Syndicate didn't find it strange that a new space, almost an entity, resided in his mind until he paused to think about it.

we may not have been able to sign up for the mianite zine in time to celebrate the series' ten year anniversary, but we are starting a new longfic today to make up for it. (those who have been following us for a while know exactly what us writing a longfic means. buckle in, folks.)
