Roman era equivalent - Dies Mercurii

Odin is a god of many traits with an equal amount of names referring to them across the European continent.

The most dominant form which survived into “Wednesday” is the Old High German form Wōdan. Roman languages still use the Latin variations such as mercredi in French. Swedish, Norwegian and Danish use onsdag, which is a shortened version of Odens dag.

Wednesday is the one day in the week which was most effectively banned by Catholic missionaries and the later fully established Catholic Church. Examples of this can be found in modern German, Slavic languages, Finnish, Icelandic and Faroese using “mid-week” instead.

Note that the (modern) countries which were christened last are the ones which use “mid-week”. A possible explanation as to why German also uses mid-week, might be because a second pontificate was housed in Germany, which might have amplified the use of mid-week over Odin.

The spiritus mercurialis and their transformations represented as a monstrous dragon. It is a quaternity, in which the fourth is at the same time the unity of the three, the unity being symbolized by the mystagogue Hermes. The three are; Luna, Sol, and coniunctio Solis et Lunae in Taurus, the House of Venus. Together they form ☿= Mercurius
