One of my favorite things about the ASL Brothers is the fact that Ace was the one brought out the sake and proposed becoming brothers.

Not Luffy or Sabo but Ace.

Ace, who believes he is unlovable, Ace who believes that his blood is dirty, Ace who believes that he didn’t deserve to be born, Ace who thinks that his life is worthless, Ace who believes that his mere existence is a crime.

And yet Ace saw these two boys and approached them without apprehension or fear of rejection even though he was proposing something as irrevocable, something as bonding as brotherhood

Ace, Sabo and Luffy should have done a blood pact as part of becoming brothers (slicing their hands and pressing their wounds together) because then Ace couldn't hate his blood anymore since he shared blood with his brothers :)

There is something very important about Ace as a character that I have not really seen people talk about.

While it is true that Ace was not at all the unlovable monster he thought he was, he was still a very flawed individual.

Oda has never glorified his flaws or presented them as anything other than that, but he does give us as the audience the reason behind them so that we can at the very least understand why he is the way he is.

And here is the thing

The extra context is only provided for the audience

None of the people in the story who love Ace completely understand what's going through his mind, what he's really been through, and why he has all these flaws.

Of course he has many positive traits as well, but what people are usually faced with during their first interactions with him are the flaws.

And despite that, they accept him and eventually grow to really really love him, especially when they finally meet his more positive side.

It's important because Oda doesn't try to present him as this sweet sunshine boy at all times, he shows you his ugliest sides as well and that conveys that he didn't need to be perfect to be loved.

He was loved despite all that was wrong with him and all the trouble he caused because those around could see who he was beyond those flaws.

He wasn't simply abandoned because he was too much to handle and made several mistakes.

This is something that one piece trys to tell its readers more than once. That once you find the right people (or they find you) you will find true love and acceptance. It may take long but it is going to happen eventually.

Love is not conditional.

silently staring at the void blackbeard literally hurt two people close to luffy, starting with ace. using him as a pawn to secure the warlord position just so he can invade impel down and recruit the level six prisoners as his crew. led to the paramount war that marked a significant change in the great pirate era at the cost of ace and whitebeard's life. taunting luffy even in impel down that he was responsible for it. luffy going through the grief of losing a brother and realizing that he's still too weak to protect anyone.

next, blackbeard attacked law for the road poneglyphs. law, the pirate surgeon that physically put luffy's heart together after akainu's fist burned through his chest. the person who isn't part of the strawhats yet luffy called nakama way back in dressrosa. the one who witnessed and heard luffy's heartbreaking scream in amazon lily as soon as he woke up after the war. those two bonded through shared understanding of grief, having to witness their respective moments of weakness and vulnerability. small chances of seeing luffy's reaction in canon but I hope he'll punch blackbeard so hard.

But after some explanation from Robin, you, and Nami beating him, he finally gets it.

This man is now glued to you hip, even going as far as to deny playing games with usopp and chopper.

He kinda treats it like you are recovering from a injury

So obviously you need help with everything in his mind

Taking a bath? Now luffy has to sit in the bathroom and make sure you don't hurt yourself

Hungry? Omg so is he!

You wanna lay in bed all day? He's gonna cuddle you for most of it

Once he discovered the chocolate thing he made sure you had what kind you wanted.

In short luffy is the kind of boyfriend to constantly be beside you during your period if he can help it.

Straight up just doesn't care about bloody sheets or mood swings

Naps with you during your sleepytimes

Will go shopping for your tampons, pads, period cups. Doesn't know what any of them are so he asks Nami and robin for help

Comes back with something from every brand he could find and is now deeper in debt to Nami

Garp and his three Godly Grandsons

It had been months since Kolby and Helmepo became his students. They both were exceptional. Koby was ignorant of that mark of Tsuisu left on him.

"Koby, do you know of the ancient gods of the world?" Garp questioned across the Wei Chi boared

"Not all of them, sir." Koby siad "I know there are multiple. But the one I'm fermilar with is Nika."

It was understandable. The kid was trapped for 2 years on a pirateship. Nika was an obvious choice for a situation like his.

Garp thought of his own mark that all three of the little rascals admitted to doing, but some instinct said there could only be one. His bet was that Astrus did it.

"Well, they are more than Myth Koby." Garp fished in his drawer for the gift Sabo left in his quarters. Without saying hello again.

"This is a collection of their mythos it helps to be at least familiar of their stories."

"Thank you, Sir." Acepted the book.

"Don't let anyone else read it." Garp warned

When he finally encountered the runaway Luffy, he saw the moment Koby entered Luffy's sight.

Luffy shouted in the ancient tongue. Garp wouldn't be surprised if it translated to (Tsuitsu you theif )or (bastard ). Luffy wrapped his stretchy limbs around Koby wailing.

Garp sighed. " Luffy yes I know your brother marked him. Now will you just let go." He grabbed Luffy by the scruff.

"But Koby was going to be Mine" Luffy wailed.

"Not another god scuffle," Garp groaned " don't attack your brother for this Luffy. we can't have another Storm like the one you and that other kid had over Shanks."

"How did you come to this information?" Garp said. Knowing that there was no messenger god running around. As far as he knew.

"Jimbe mentioned that the Revolutionary's God was smug about something."

Garp growled hiding his face in his hands. "Promised me you won't get into a fight over this with your brothers."

"Shit, it's That bad."

"Yes, I would rather not experience what two of you can do, with your gathered powers." The event he was talking about was long before he reunited Nika with his elder brothers. It was when Nika and Kanato fought over Shanks and his crew. A giant storm picked up where they were. That was with them confined to the bodies of children and Minor miracles. Garp really didn't want to find out what fully functional Gods could do.

" Fine I promise I won't fight my younger brothers over this." Ace swore holding his followers sign of promise.

"It's my new student. He arrived at his conscription post with Luffy. But at some point before I arrived. Sabo marked him. " Garp said.

"Once someone is marked there's not much to fight over. Unless their multi attuned. Then it's a matter of persuasion to shift the mark from one to their preference." Ace shrugged "Has there been any Gifts delivered?"

"Yes a book on Mythology of you all, and A sun pendant from Nika." Garp said.

Ace grinned wickedly. Producing a small book on star navigation. From nowhere.

" Give that to your student." Then the God of the Stars vanished. Laughter remaining behind.

"Roger you're a Bastard that left me to deal with your consequences" Garp groaned.

Yet he loved his Grandsons. That also happened to be millennia older than him. They were all Gods after all.

sleeping with ace is frustrating. you sit up as ace's arm is loosely wrapped around your waist, his hat on the floor beside the bed as he snores loudly— drool dribbling down his cheek.

he looks cute but.. you need sleep too, he's way too hot— his skin almost burning you with the sickening heat. you were already underneath a blanket and cuddling.. plus, you hate sweating.

you gently push him, "baby.. baby, wake up.. ace, c'mon boo, get up." you continously do it until he groans, rolling over— jumping up when you slap his back, "girl, why you hit me like that?—"

"cus i told you to get up 'n you wouldn't listen, babe." you frown, gently pushing him away when he tries to hug you—

he frowns, "what? did i do somethin' in my sleep or?"

"you make me sweat."

he wiggles his eyebrows, "if that's what ya wanted, shoulda jus' told me." he moves in for a kiss, rewarding him with your hand on his mouth.

"ace, your skin is too hot, i'm fucking sweating buckets, babe. please, get me some ice."

he groans rolling out of bed, "can't we just open a window?" he says as he sighs, walking towards the kitchen area before you yell behind him— "i ain't smelling salt water all night, ace !" he yells back a quick 'i get it'. in a few seconds he comes back with a cloth and a full bucket of ice— "for you, m'lady."

"thanks, handsome." first, you place some cubes in your mouth already sighing at the cold, as ace wraps the cloth around a handful of ice cubes and begins patting it on your skin— blowing on your wet skin to make it cooler for you.

"god, i'm gonna end up as a househusband aren't i?"

"hell no, i ain't working" you laugh as he places a hot kiss to your neck, a contrast to the coldness on you— "mhh, yeah, can't make my pretty wife work– especially if she's g'nna be carrying my kids—"

"ace, don't start thinking with your dick."

Do you ever think about the fact that the ONE time Sanji let himself be comfortable and enjoy dresses and makeup with cigarettes, Ace died and Luffy almost died all alone and so far away. Will Sanji ever forgive himself for daring to relax and explore himself a bit while catastrophic things were happening? (Jk he'll never do so again, just in case)
