#it's about the THOUGHT PROCESS BRO#which is also why asking about symbolism is one of the more interesting questions
(adding op's tags because YES)
No one ever gets ASKED. "Why did u name ur oc the way u did" even tho it's probably one of the more interesting questions u could ask a creator
#for me most of the Thought Process happens with the themes and symbolism#and then I pick names to match the vibe#and usually I go by sound rather than meaning#so like. 'Kyana' is me replacing the 'Solo' in 'Solona' with a crisper sound#'Neilar' was originally a name I used for a male Surana#and I got it from shifting the letters of 'Nerim' around and replacing some for a more melodic sound#Aqun and Adina's names are chosen by meaning though#'Aqun' means 'balance' which fits his initial concept of 'Qunari archer who strives for absolute control to keep his rage at bay'#Adina's name is picked mostly for sound and because I wanted something middle-eastern with an A#but her surname (Saar) is just her taking the good part of 'Saarebas' and using it as a last name#yes she is the kind of person to unironically name herself Danger#I guess there's also Zaria (my Aeducan I haven't mentioned on this blog yet). I just wanted a Slavic-sounding name that wasn't Sereda#and hers means 'Dawn'#and since she lived underground I decided that this wasn't her birth name#so she was born as Sereda but took the name Zaria after being exiled to the surface#................I guess there's also Selene but the reason for her name is literally 'uhhhhhhhhh moon girl'#I. I didn't expect her to become an oc. I just wanted to play pillars of eternity#herearedragons meta

tolkien meta: the melodic structure of the ainulindale, arda's endgame, and the doom of men
so basically this is about what one can learn and connect to the rest of the legendarium's lore from the ainulindale, and also peer into tolkien's psyche as a side effect i guess. expect excessive theology or more fun imo philosophy of divinity and lengthy tangents about melkor, the nature of evil and theodicy
a small disclaimer - this touches thorny topics in philosophy like the problem of evil, the nature of redemption/salvation, death...
this isn't about my beliefs but presenting and reflecting on tolkien's own within the history of ideas. i acknowledge anyone who reads this also has their own, and can agree or disagree with tolkien. my views may seep in unintentionally but i try to go deeper than that.
pd: I write Eru/One/God indistinctively on purpose. it's for rhetorical emphasis, not so much out of (cultural) christianity.
part I - introduction (in this post) part II - the themes/structure, discussion part III - discussion (cont): themes of arda and life part IV - discussion (cont 2): theme of the children part V - discussion (cont 3): aftermath/second music
Introduction (i rec reading even if you're versed in the lore)
for those who are not so familiar with parts of the legendarium but still interested in a deep dive, the ainulindalë ("song of the ainur") is the creation myth of tolkien's world.
i rec just reading it if you haven't even if it's after reading this. it's quite beautiful and unique and it's brought admiration even from ppl who study that kind of thing professionally about real cultures. i'm not given to flattery but idk just check it out.
so anyway, the ainur, spirits born from the One creator's mind directly, sang under (or despite) His direction and the melody (both harmony and discord) that resulted, is the history of the world.
by the world we have two concepts here, the entire universe (eä) and the planet (arda) 'earth', of which middle-earth is a later-stage continent. the music itself was a creative process that the ainur partook in before knowing the full implication of their singing.
God showed the ainur the vision of what their music had created and when they saw the world they wanted to live it, to dwell on it and experience it.
God granted this but said they had to remain in it until the full music, the full story had played out.
this includes everything that happens in the Silmarillion, the LOTR movies and sequels/prequels, the TROP series, games, etc, and in some stages of Tolkien's opus, our own world (WWI, WWII, etc).
the Discord refers to the rebellious effect of Melkor on the music as much as his part of the music - the dissonance born from his part's coexistence with the rest of the melody that is in harmony, and takes a 'life of its own'.
this is not unimportant, but i'm not going to discuss it at any point. i will point out here that it has been argued -controversially- by some people to be relevant in compatibilizing or explaining otherwise difficult-to-reconcile lore points that deal with "non-Melkorian evil". this is about things like Ungoliant or the nameless things 'whose mention darken the light of day', whose in-world origins are unclear.
on a broader note, this represents two very different intuitions about evil and divinity (Tolkienian v Lovecraftian, we could say). these are difficult to compatibilize and more than Tolkien's psyche, represent ancient tensions within monotheistic religions themselves, i think. so within Tolkien's world, which has an Abrahamic/monotheistic god, you still find traces of Lovecraftian horror.
all that follows is about Tolkienian evil (meta) i.e. Melkorian evil (in-world), that is uncontroversially and explicitly under the governance of the One, although non-Melkorian evil is a fascinating subject.

The 60th teaser is surging, so I may as well not be shy in the tags.
Because this goes even deeper than just the Doctor choosing not to kill the Master. He could have just stayed on the floor, let Rassilon infinity gauntlet the Master off and unless the mitten of destiny or wtv has an intelligent function of killing someone with consequences being optional the whole problem would have resolved itself! Maybe not in a very narratively satisfying way but with solid irony to it! And with the Doctor keeping his hands squeaky clean of any responsibility either way!
But no, he bloody gets up and stands between the Master and Rassilon's kitchen mitt with a look of Shakespearean fury that transforms into a mixture of unhinged Prometheus and spouse so fucking done with his man's antics Kill him and Gallifrey could be yours Koschei ily but what the hell were you thinking or were you mentally at the point where Theta sweeps you bridal style so you can make out in opulent presidential bedchamber in front of Rassilon's corpse.
And this is just such an excellent subtle bringing back of LotL's You're my responsibility from now on, then spoken in a sanctimonious bid to keep rightfully angry people from getting in the way of the Doctor's Hollywood ending that's kept him going for over twelve months, now acted on with full weight of what it entailed.
The Doctor continues to be so on edge throughout that gun twirling scene, not to mention not genuinely lowering it for even a moment, that it clearly communicates that... he could. He could and would kill the Master if there was no other way to save the universe. But it's his responsibility to do it, not of Hell's Kitchen's James Bond. And in the end it's his responsibility to save him.
And the Master? At the end of third season spat in the Doctor's face that he'd literally rather die than be kept by him, to be what he cares for and is responsible for. And now has to rely for his life on that same sentiment he utilised as a way to hurt the Doctor. Just as Ten was so confident that the Master - who went through being Palpatine and Wicked Witch of The West's lovebaby, a cat and a spectral snake to stay alive - would never destroy themself, only to get that law of the universe snatched from underneath him, so now the Master's reliance on the Doctor's morals and love is now shaking at its foundation.
Just. What RTD did with TenSimm is a bloody symphony, and all of his run is one of those jazz jams that seem random but when you listen closely hold a very solid rhythm and have every note right where it should be.
A quick reminder that if the Doctor had shot the Master in this scene he would have destroyed all the other Timelords as well. Gallifrey would have “fallen” either way - and he wouldn’t have to bother with the Master anymore either, who was a threat to his beloved humans and the entire universe. But the Doctor can’t kill him. He keeps him alive because he wants to help his fallen friend, who is his last connection to his home and his childhood.
He made the Master the only Timelord the Doctor couldn’t kill, no matter what he does.
#i'm just saying this is what 60th teaser makes me hope for#not for who to ve great again or sth like that#just something that once you scratch through effects costumes humour even acting has simply a solid structure to it#for the record when i say tensimm is a symphony that's with recognition that every now and then#the conductor picks up a raccoon and lets it bite on the score near a microphone#but it's still melodically logical#am i crying? yes tensimm got to me#guess who's having an end of time phase#tensimm#thoschei#doctor who meta#kind of? durkheim is glaring at me for writing this instead of reading#ranting so maybe i'll finally sleep

AFO’s last words to Yoichi are great inspiration for what I’m already doing with his character in my fanfic ‘Urges’.
I went ahead and got this out of my head and felt I would share it with you all. This is the beginning of AFO’s POV in the 2nd chapter. The only difficult thing is that I decided to not give AFO a name in this fic, so I have to be careful to make sure readers understand who is talking and acting. Of course, I may introduce a name he gave himself for other people to call him, but I think it’s extra weird that he only wants Yoichi to call him Big Brother/Brother.
To read the first chapter, click here.
—————
Late.
He hated when Yoichi was late.
The world outside their nice apartment may be rebuilding, but it still was nowhere near safe enough for his precious Yoichi. Small and frail as a result of the syndrome they experienced in the womb, his little brother was a prime target for those unbothered by the reconstruction efforts of the populace.
Yoichi has always been a positive boon to their lives. Even when they were barely making it on the streets of a derelict society. Somehow, his little twin always found beauty in the dank corners of alleyways, and held an innocent, ignorant belief in the good inside the pathetic people around them. The individuals that scurried around like the rats the brothers had begrudgingly accepted as housemates.
As obnoxious as it could be, he cherished those memories of Yoichi’s optimism.
One such recollection always brought a nostalgic smile to his face.
It had been a particularly bad winter for the region. Luckily, he had come upon a most needed meta ability involving fire. It was nothing spectacular, only good enough for a small flicker, barely able to light a insignificant pile of trash. There was plenty of litter in the large, overturned dumpster he had found hidden down a long alleyway. Holes in its rusted exterior allowed venting of the smoke and the brothers had enjoyed cooked vermin as sustenance.
It was a delicious upgrade compared to their usual consumption of the rodents raw. His earliest memories involved catching them. As a baby already capable of crawling, it had been up to him to use the spike meta power he had always had to skewer the rats. He would then use the same power as teeth to mush up their bodies and bring the food to his frail, underdeveloped twin. Spitting up the pile in front of Yoichi, he would guide his mouth to the chewed up meat and pat his twin’s head as he eagerly consumed the slop.
The larger twin had fallen asleep late the night prior, but awoke with a start at the dinging sound of rain upon the decaying metal of their humble home, his arms empty of the person he normally awoke next to.
Yoichi was gone.
In a frenzy, he irrationally dug through trash in the dumpster to find him. With no luck, he had scurried out into the alley, whipping his head to and fro, scanning the lane for a mop of white hair. The atmosphere was muggy, even the young boy could feel the start of spring herald by a thread of warmth amongst the fall of water.
Then he finally found him.
Yoichi stood in the middle of the open street beyond their alleyway home. The older one’s building anger was extinguished as the melodic giggles of his small twin reached his ears. As he moved closer, he could clearly see Yoichi’s hands outstretched towards the overcast sky, his gleeful laughter starting and stopping as he filled his mouth with the naturally filtered water.
“Little! What?” Their vocabulary was small and raw like the meat he used to dine on, but enough for the tiny twin to be momentarily startled out of his merriment. His visage quickly changed back to one of pure joy.
“Brother! Wet! Good!” Yoichi clapped his hands then signaled for his older brother to come closer.
Unlike his twin, the eldest was on constant alert. Once one foot stepped out from the safety of their side street, he immediately scanned the open area for potential threats, eyes wide like a prey animal.
Yoichi grabbed his hand and pulled him out with him, pointing at the sky and smiling at his large brother. That smile. Wide and toothy. Filled with such wonder and naivety. One of the few things in this terrible existence that warmed him regardless of the season or the chill in the air.
“Brother! It pretty! Pretty! Watch!” Yoichi raised one hand to the sky now, his other clasped in his brother’s hand.
But he didn’t watch the sky nor the rain. His eyes were trained only on his precious twin.
“Yes. Pretty,” he whispered as he continued to gaze upon him though the other’s eyes were entranced by the shimmering drops. He allowed his twin to look at something other than himself. Maybe just this once.
Yes. His precious Yoichi is so pretty.

MORE MET GALA THEMES
I tried to come up with good names for these but some were just too hard. Go ahead and use any of these for your DR, I’d love to see what you do with these ideas as well.
Jim Hensen
Now I’ve got a couple ideas for this
1. You could do the obvious choice and do a Muppets themed gala or
2. You could do one based off the movie Labyrinth.
3. Maybe you could do a gala in honor of him in general if you wanted or if you’re really into it Sesame Street.
The Future of Fashion
Sustainable styles and recycled products are what I’m talking about. Outfits made of paper maybe some repurposed couch cushions.
Meta Met Gala
A Retro-Inspired Celebration of Past Met Gala Fashions.
Around the World
People could get so creative with this, I was thinking some people dressed up like mythological creatures and others just making use of fabrics and colors from their homelands.
Music Mayhem
A melodic showcase of fashion, you could get specific with the decade or artist or keep it broad. Someone’s gotta dress in sheet music though.
Ancient Greece
This theme allows for a wide range of interpretations, you could do Greek fashion, the gods or get specific with which god.
Retro-Futuristic
A Bold Blend of Classic Nostalgia and Sci-Fi Inspired Couture. And in the same vein you could do Cyberpunk Couture or Steam-Punk.
The Urban Jungle
A Fusion of Streetwear and Graffitied buildings is what comes to mind for this one.
Royal Romance
A Night of Regal Glam and Historic Fashion Nostalgia. Again you could keep it broad or really hone in on a specific time period or royal family.
Couture Confectionery
Katy Perry already has a head start with this one, this is another one that you can get really creative with. You could make it look like you got in a good fight in a bakery or dress as a literal cake. Someone’s coming in a flour sack guaranteed.

Komuram Bheemudo: The Tiger Part 1/?
Bheem sometimes being compared to- no, CALLED- a tiger in the movie. Both the tiger and Bheem roar at each other. They are both defiant against the odds. The tiger does not go down without a fight. Bheem literally has to put it to sleep in order to capture it and even as the sleeping herbs work their magic, we can STILL see it fighting, clawing, doing EVERYTHING to be free.
Switch to Komuram Bheemudo, and what do we see? Bheem too remains defiant. He refuses to KNEEL, refuses to go down without a fight. While the tiger roared, Bheem sings, and while the tune is soft and melodic, the words are no less than a roar. When the tiger had roared, Bheem too had roared at it in response. When Bheem sings (roars), the crowd too roars in revolt. Just as the tiger he had captured before, Bheem has to literally lose his consciousness to stop fighting. He falls but he does NOT kneel.
Unlike Ram and Bheem, Bheem and the tiger are not opposites, they are reflections. Bheem IS the tiger shown in the first picture.
The tiger wears its stripes with pride.
And so shall Bheem from now on.

🎶 with Ultra and Heiadoze!
[🎶 (Music Notes) - Do they play any instruments? What kind of leitmotif and/or battle theme would they have? Are there any songs you associate with them?]
Oooh a fun one!
Heiadoze is terrible at playing instruments. She can't even play the triangle well. Heck, she struggles to open doors at times, that's how low her dexterity is! But sing she can and she puts her heart into it when she does! A noddy gotta know her lullabies. ~
I'd imagine her battle theme to sound like Hypnosis by Tardigrade Inferno. It's her voice claim, too!
Ultra did learn a lot about music from Valfrey back when they still got along. It got taught how to play guitar from her and how to hold a tone with its voice for its dramatic over the top speeches. It'd sound more like a growling screaming metal singer rather than anything melodic though. It does also make sounds with its wings that probably sound like songs to other insects, too.
While I don't have a concrete battle theme for it I do imagine Resurrection Machine by Deine Lakeien playing during its battle against Meta Knight and Dutch (notably the singing is more so Valfrey). I do closely associate it with the music of 2 Times Terror, especially their Finnish songs since those songs inspired it a lot along with Supersonic Snakebite by Project Pitchfork.
#Heiadoze#Ultra Knight#Kirby OC ask game#Kirby OC#Gethoce#answered ask#george228732#a very fun one indeed!#now i cant help but imagine an OC rap battle#i hope the links work. ive had trouble linking to youtube before

I have been thinking about the Phantom effigy (idk what else to call it lol) on Melodic Gardens and it's obviously there in a meta sense to just be a cameo, but it's got me thinking... Why is it there, in universe? I mean it makes no less sense than all the other random stuff you find in the background throughout the games, like the same planet has a giant oven timer on it for reasons unknown. But it could be fun to imagine.
Here are some ideas:
1) It's something commissioned by Phantom himself. He found out there was a musical planet and had it sent/installed there as if to say "don't forget who's the most glorious musician in the entire universe!!"
2) Similar to the above, but he went to Melodic Gardens in attempt to try and get his voice back. It's kinda funny I've already explored the idea of him traveling the galaxy in pursuit of such things, and this was before I knew there was a planet entirely based upon the idea of linking music and life. Seems like the best place to go! He would have left the tribute to himself there, especially if he did succeed in restoring his voice.
3) The Rabbids of the planet made it, since they will admire an accomplished musician (evidenced by Allegra becoming warden). This could be because he visited, or they just know about him.
4) Allegra made it or had it made because despite all his issues, she admires him (she's just like us fr), at least as a musician or for what he did in popularizing classical music for Rabbids.
Whatcha think?

MAG 121 Relisten
Activity on my first listen: baking something with apples
This is the last episode with my favorite ambiance track :´) We haven't heard it at all in S3. All in all, the ambiance music in S3 got a lot less melodic than the one in S1 and S2. Although, S2 already used the less melodic tracks as well.
Oh right, the Patreon thanks are starting now! I haven't given all of them a listen, I think I'll do it here.
To add something about Jon's coma: I read in a post yesterday that someone wondered how they even found out Jon was still alive. I'm kind of guessing there is something like Section 31 in medical as well. People who are somewhat trained for "weird" cases, even though they don't understand them. To fix that plot hole I'd say Elias called in, telling them this particular person is still alive even though he's neither breathing nor has a heartbeat. And considering, that Jon is dreaming, I'd headcanon his closed eyes rapidly moving.
OLIVER: "Um. Hello, Jon. Do you… mind if I call you Jon? I, I mean, you don’t actually know me. It’s just, well. 'Archivist.' It’s so formal, isn’t it?" Reasons why I love Oliver Banks, exhibition #658 xD No seriously, I think Oliver Banks is one of the most interesting Avatars out there and I'd say he's my favorite of all those Avatars we only meet tangentially. Death is such a complicated subject in itself and Oliver makes it look so... neutral. I mean, the End in itself appears relatively inactive, not having a Ritual and all. Anyway, Oliver calls Jon by his (human) name, is even unsure if he's allowed to do that, since they don’t "actually" know each other. But he respects that this is, who Jon is. Who he wishes to remain, regardless of which choice he’ll make. Oliver thinks of this although he has kind of lost touch with his name(s), since he'll just take any identity which works best for him at the moment.
OLIVER: "And I do kind of know you…? Haven’t had much choice, really. Dreams are like that, you know." I really, really wonder what that means. Did he see Jon's life hanging by a thread. Did he see nothing at all because he’s in a place where the End can’t touch him? Or does he already see a root piercing his heart? Does Jon actually have any agency in this? (He has been denied to die once before, MAG 101...)
OLIVER: "No matter how lucid you think they are, there’s always that part that just drags you along." Meta-comment about said agency?
OLIVER: "That’s how it works, right? Give you a terror; give you a dream?" Oliver in his dreams being like "Alright, I'm done checking out how person A, B and C will die, time for my Point Nemo date with Jon..."
Hmm, is there a soft crackling sound in the background?
"So. My name is Oliver Banks. In my other statements, I used the name Antonio Blake" When I was first listening I still could recall the general premise of MAG 11 quite well, including the name of the statement giver. So I already had my suspicions after all this talk about dreams, especially when talking about Gertrude. And then he says this sentence! I love those "I knew it!" moments^^
"I knew exactly what I had to do. He didn’t look anything like me, not really" Not really! Iirc, this season will have tons of not reallys. So I'll start counting! S4 Not Really #1
"There were a couple of marine biologists on board, a meteorologist, an engineer, someone who called herself a “macro-ecologist” – though at times, she looked almost as out of her depth as I did." Fake it till you make it!
“This too shall pass.” If I had a nickel for every podcast with a troubled, with eye imagery associated Eldritch character named Jo(h)n who owns a mysterious lighter and had a life altering experience while in a coma I'd have 2 nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice...
"The rest of the crew didn’t seem to notice, walking through the immense, grasping tendrils like they weren’t there at all" Wasn't there something about "TMA will not have tentacles!"? xD
"But I barely got the first word out before the falling satellite debris hit the ship at 200 miles an hour, killing us instantly." So, did Oliver just walk on the ocean floor back to London?
OLIVER: "Honestly, I’m still not exactly sure why I’m here. But you know better than anyone how the spiders can get into your head. Easier to just do what she asks." More of the Web shenanigans to make sure Jon stays on the right path...
OLIVER: "Oh, I, I’m a friend. Of Jon’s." GEORGIE: "Are you, now." OLIVER: "Uh, y-yes." I mean, Oliver seemed to be a kind of hesitant type there at the beginning of the episode. But this seems like he's a bit intimidated? Considering this is no-fear-because-touched-by-the-End Georgie, it would fit.
OLIVER: “…have I upset you, miss –” GEORGIE: “No, you just remind me of someone.” OLIVER: “Ahhh, I’m sorry! Were they –” GEORGIE: “Evil. Yes.” Hm, another throwback to MAG 101,“Is a thing evil when it simply obeys its own nature?” What makes someone evil? It sounds like Georgie is implying that she considers Oliver evil as well? But if we going by that definition, Jon would be evil as well.. I think Oliver and Jon are quite similar. Neither of them asked for this but here they are.
GEORGIE: [sigh] "Sorry about that, but you really don’t need friends like tha…" Arg, this makes me so angry again! This constant patronizing... Georgie knew this was an End avatar, I mean she said he reminded her of someone evil - the corpse who took her fear. What was she thinking Oliver was doing here? That he had come and finally claim Jon? And she shooed him away because she didn't want that? Because she's not too happy about him waking up either, so was that the reason she wanted Oliver nowhere near Jon? Status quo can’t remain forever. So what's it gonna be? A dead human friend? Or an alive something-else friend?
@a-mag-a-day
